My wife and I went to Florence KY to visit The Ark Encounter and to celebrate our 44th Wedding Anniversary and we wanted somewhere very special to dine, we went to Lisse Steakhouse. We were warmly welcomed and escorted to our table (by reservation). The atmosphere was indeed delightful. We were offered complementary Champaign by the assistant manager which made us felt extremely special. Our server was very courteous and knowledgeable of the menu. The appetizer and meal was great. My husband and I had dinner here recently. The service was amazing and the food was excellent. My husband got the chef recommended filet and I got the pork chop. Both were cooked perfectly. We shared the Dutch friets as a side. They were interesting, and very good. This is the old Chez Nora location. What an amazing job they did renovating this place! It looks incredible. They have a rooftop bar with a heated patio. It's very casual upstairs. Ok, been hearing the buzz and went tonight with three others. Place is really nice!! Contemporary look and feel. They spent big money to make this place right. Three stories. Great bar on the 3rd floor including a beautiful outside area and a secluded cigar bar area which was really gorgeous. 2nd story was geared for dining and a very nice private dining area for large a large party / great for drug rep events! 1sr floor has a really nice bar and fine dining areas. Lots of space to explore which is fun! Very happy to see such a nice place in Covington. Started off with drinks. All good until we got the bill for the drinks. Scooby Doo!! This isn't NY so why such high drink prices?? Come on, $18.00 dollars for a Blantons and water? Not! So the food; several ordered the NY Strip. Very good!! Very tender, great taste but size is questionable. The other person ordered the scallops, again very good! Split the HUGE bake potato and Brussels sprouts. Very good! Service: got seated and no one came at first. Looked like the servers were trying to determine who's got our table. This will come with time hopefully. Little slow on the drinks. I frequented the restaurant that occupied this space previously. The overhaul of the building us BEAUTIFUL! Additionally, the food (albeit pricey) is delicious and well worth the cost. With those two positives noted, I opted to rate this restaurant only three stars because of the EXCEPTIONALLY slow service times. I have dined at many upscale restaurants and certainly appreciate having sufficient time between courses to relax, chat and fully appreciate the food. However, the time between being seated and having our appetizer drink order taken was almost twenty minutes. Once received, the appetizers were delicious. So I felt hopeful and forgiving regarding the protracted wait. This trend continued with the main course and dessert. LOOOONG wait times followed by delectable dishes. My family was in town for the weekend and wanted to take them to a nice steakhouse. The menu looked great and the prices made us think it was an upscale steakhouse. The interior/layout didn't really match the menu prices or an elegant dinning experience. We expected white table clothes, but instead we had paper napkins and no table clothes. Party of six. Friday night. Two people ordered steak. One New York Strip - not asked how they would like their steak prepared. One Bone in Ribeye - was asked how they would like their steak prepared and it came as ordered. There are absolutely no sides that come with the steaks. Everything is ordered ala carte. One person ordered the Salmon and ordered it blackened. It did not come blackened. Three people ordered the special that night which was Halibut with cream mashed potatoes and asparagus. All three pieces of Halibut were smaller than the palm of my hand! Maybe the chef took one piece and divided it between the three orders? All three of the people who ordered the Halibut commented that it was no flavorful at all, just not good. One person said that the only flavor tasted was a lot of salt! One plate had only two pieces of asparagus, two had only three pieces. The serving of potatoes was about the size of a small scoop of ice cream. If all three plates had been served as one plate then it would've been a decent dinner for the price paid. All that being said; everything is WAAYYY overpriced for what you get. Go somewhere else! You will enjoy yourself much more, not break the bank, and not go home hungry! read more

This place just opened and man is it beautiful. They did a great job renovating what was a nasty vacant building. The owner who is from Europe, truly did an outstanding job on aesthetics. All the white and European touches really transports you to another place. It doesn't feel like you're in Covington! I love their whole idea. The first floor is a nice steak restaurant. The menu looked fab however we didn't eat there. The middle floor is for events that you can rent out. And the top floor is an indoor bar with live music plus an outside patio with to die for views of Cincinnati. There are TVS inside and outside which was awesome. The wait staff was friendly and everything was tasty! The drinks are kind of pricey, $10 for a standard drink. I was thinking now more like $8 for the area. But oh well...perhaps it will adjust. I was definitely impressed by my first visit at Lisse (liss-uh). Their high quality, Dutch inspired menu items were all top notch. We started with the Root Chips, made from root veggies and served with a red pepper aioli and a goat cheese fondu dip. Both dips were delicious! And that goat cheese fondu was great to dip the complimentary bread in as well. I ordered the Dutch Filet, and it was cooked to perfection. Lisse knows what they're doing, not only with the temperature of the meat, but also with the technique they use to grill this cut. A+. The boyf ordered their salmon dish, and we were both impressed by the way they cooked it. The skin was nice and crispy, while the salmon itself was tender. Many restaurants overcook salmon, and that was not the case here. Expect nice steakhouse prices, but the high quality and atmosphere are on par with the price point. Well, first the good then,you know. The restaurant was amply staffed with quality help. The interior was smartly decorated and visually appealing. At 7:15 on a Friday night you would expect a near full house still, but no. Less than 50% capacity on a beautiful summer night.The wait staff was excellent , but a little slow on drink refills. I ordered the delmonico ribeye with baked potato and half garden salad. The blue cheese dressing was good but to skimpy for amount of salad I had. The baked was OK but for $5 I'll pass if ever back. They are known for steak so taking the advice of my server ordered mine medium and the appearance was gorgeous. Ha, don't be fooled. Bits of gristle and not much flavor for my $39 pick of meat. My wife enjoyed her Dutch fillet. We had 4 beers,2 salads,2 steaks,a potato for $122 pre tip. I took a pic but couldn't download to yelp. Comparing to Ruby's is asinine. My husband I decided to take my daughter for an after-dinner walk through Mainstrasse village and to stop in at Lisse for drinks and desserts. As we approached the restaurant (on foot), the valet attendants gave us a friendly greeting and welcomed us to the restaurant. We told him that we were interested in desserts. He went on to describe some of the decadent menu offerings, tempting us with his descriptions. He directed us to the hostess inside for seating. The hostess was pleasant and eager to seat us. The atmosphere inside was quiet, tastefully decorated, and inviting. We told her that, because it was a beautiful night, that we wished to sit on the upper deck. She walked us to the elevator and told us to go upstairs. Once upstairs, we entered a bar area, which was central. Doors from the bar area led out to patio areas. There was no hostess or anyone there to greet us, so we chose a table outside, and my husband went inside and spoke to the bartender. He told her that we were seated outside and that we wanted to order drinks and desserts. He came back with a menu. After a LONG wait, my husband went back in to talk to the bartender again. He was told that someone would be with us shortly. Another LONG wait. Finally, a server did come by. He took our drink orders. My daughter ordered a cocktail. My husband and I ordered coffees because, by this time, the sun was going down and it was becoming chilly. Another LONG wait. After some time, my husband checked with the bartender again. He was told that someone would be with us. This time, a server came to take our dessert orders. We each ordered a different dessert. Waited and waited again. Our drinks finally arrived. My regular coffee was extremely weak and almost tasteless....much like colored water.....and I am not a strong coffee drinker. My husband's decaf was okay, he said. My daughter enjoyed her cocktail. Again, we were left waiting. After another long while and another trip to the bar for my husband to talk to the bartender, the server did come with our desserts. They were good, but not outstanding. My husband's homemade cherry ice cream used maraschino cherries instead of real cherries. The small scoop of ice cream was served with a chocolate brownie. I had carrot cake. It was good, but nothing particularly outstanding. The sauce that was under the cake was a little strange in flavor and didn't really do anything to enhance the cake. My daughter ordered apple crisp. She said it was good, but like a home-cooked recipe, not anything about it that took it "over the top" to pastry chef level. We felt that way with all 3 desserts....all were something that I could make at home and do just as well. Not over-the-top. In fact, I did recreate the ice cream/brownie for company at home the following week and made it much better....I used real (frozen) cherries which I cooked down to a compote and used almond extract in the heavy cream base. No maraschino cherries or fake cherry flavoring! Once desserts were served, nobody came back to check on us or refill coffees or anything else. My husband went in to ask the bartender for our bill. He was told that someone would bring it out to us. They didn't. We waited again, but nobody came. We went in and asked the bartender again. We had to stand at the bar and wait for someone to tally up the bill so that we could pay and leave. So.....we were definitely unimpressed with the service here. It is high priced for the quality of desserts and drinks. Spent AT LEAST 90 minutes, maybe close to 2 hours waiting just for drinks and desserts. Our bill (including a modest tip) was $57.88 for 2 coffees, one cocktail, and 3 desserts. I am grateful that we were not in a hurry that night and had plenty of time to "waste." If we had other plans for the evening, our lack of service and long wait times would have been extremely frustrating. It was a warm and sunny late afternoon when we arrived. It was cool and dark when we left. We struggled with our rating. We were between 2 and 3. The service was terrible....would have ranked 0. When the servers did show up, they were pleasant...there just seemed to be nobody assigned to our table to take care of us. The decor was very nice. The music downstairs was tasteful, but in the bar area, it was loud and distracting. The staff that was downstairs was very nice and welcoming. The drinks/desserts were average and not worth the price. Maybe things would have been different if we had stayed downstairs and also ordered dinner. We will never find out because the poor service we experienced on this first visit will prevent us from visiting this restaurant again. read more

We decided to take advantage of Restaurant Week and try out Lisse on a Friday evening. We arrived to Lisse, located on the main intersection of Mainstrasse Village - great outside and inside decor and appeal! We began the night with a drink at the bar, really loved the blueberry mojito. It was refreshing and beautiful created. Now to get to where the night took a turn and the more disappointing aspects of the evening...once done with drinks at the bar, we were seated on the 2nd floor and confused to find a half-filled restaurant. Again great, decor but the service proceeded to be slow. We ordered 2 bottles of wine, a beer, and a mule. For the food, most everyone ordered the caesar salad and it was ok. Not a very substantial salad and the dressing was not very flavorful. We were a party of 8, which I understand can present some challenges, however for dinner all except one ordered the fillet. Unfortunately, the fillets were all mixed up leading to most people eating a fillet that was not cooked to their desired level. The fillet was luke-warm, and one person's dish was served completely without vegetables. The staff informed us that they had run out of vegetables for the evening, which was comped with a side. Disappointingly that side was the artichokes which tasted that they had been dumped from a can. The food experience was overall pretty disappointing and nothing to rave about. The serving sizes were quite small, leading most people to order sides just to feel full. One of the sides however, brussel sprouts, was very delicious and I would recommend. The night did end on a good note with a scrumptious creme brulee - however it was only the size of a shot glass, leaving everyone wanting more. Per the serving size, speed of service, and overall unmemorable food will prevent us from coming back. Disappointed to not find Lisse worth the money for a return trip for such a tastefully decorated establishment. read more

Man, has this place gone down! I was impressed on my first visit with the beautiful renovation and gave them the benefit of the doubt on service and food, because they were new. My last visit was my last visit. The service was painfully slow and the waiter got our order wrong 3 times. They must have changed purveyors since my last visit, as both of our steaks were just plain tough. The appetizers were uninspired, which you don't expect from an expensive restaurant. After we were well versed on how to pronounce the name of the restaurant we waited over 30 minutes and had to ask for bread while we awaited our meal. Also had to ask for another glass of wine? The night topped off with me finding meat in my vegetarian entree! Not acceptable. The waiter was so out of touch it wasn't even worth bringing it up. So many other options downtown and even Frida's across the streets food and atmosphere make his place look like a joke. This review isn't even about the food because I'm sure it has to taste good with prices like those? My family had made a reservation months ago for a private room and were told there wouldn't be a minimum price. We called the week of our reservation and were, again, our reservation was in place and that there wouldn't be a minimum. Then, we call the day of the reservation and are not only told we don't have a private room anymore, but are told they we now have to pay a ridiculous minimum to eat at this fine establishment. This reservation was to celebrate my father's over 40 years in service to his community. If you want to celebrate a special occasion in your lives, don't leave it up to those who run this 'esteemed' restaurant. You'd think the customer service would match that of their extravagant menu. If you're out for a casual evening but looking to make it more elegant, I'm sure this would be a great place to go. Regardless, 1 star because 0 is sadly not an option. read more

My boyfriend and I went here for a date night. We have been waiting a long time to go here and were really excited. Upon arrival we were seated at the worst table in the whole place. Is was a dark corner right next to the emergency exit door. It was so dark at our table that I was unable to even read the menu. I wish that we would have been given a different table, I felt like we were placed out of the way so that we couldn't see the refinished building. We ordered sazeracs to start the night. They were terrible. Then we ordered the tomahawk for dinner. I will say that the steak was very good. It was cooked perfectly and the steak seasoning was amazing. But, our sides were not great. We ordered the asparagus and mac and cheese. The asparagus was very bland. I think they just heated it up with some olive oil. Also, the mac and cheese was completely forgettable. My boyfriend says that he would like to go back and only order a steak. But, I do not have any intention of going back. For the money, there are so many better options in the area. read more

Apparently I'm the outlier thus far, but personally I expect a lot more from a restaurant at this price point. My overall impression is that of a restaurant with a nice space, but which will need to provide a far better value, higher quality food, and better service if it is to survive. First, the pros: 1. Wonderful top level with a good view. 2. A truly excellent renovation of the space it occupies. No art work currently hangs on any of the walls, so it seems a bit spartan...but that likely will change shortly. 3. Good (if expensive) cocktails. This, however, currently is outweighed by the cons, in our opinion. They include: 1. Poor value. We dropped just over $500 (tip included) on a birthday dinner for six people. I don't care so much about the absolute price point, but it needs to come with food and service commensurate with the price. I can think of at least half a dozen high end restaurants in greater Cincinnati that have as much atmosphere, and which provide better food and service. 2. At best slightly above average food. The bread (the only thing not a la carte?) did not seem fresh; it was soft, did not have the crust of a fresh baked bread, and was served cold. Steaks (ribeye and filet) were good, though there are better in greater Cincinnati at less than half the price. Lobster tail was paltry--literally laughable how small it was. The scallops were, we thought, the best and were served with a good sauce. 3. Entirely a la carte. Not unusual for a steakhouse, but again the value here is the problem. Want asparagus with your $40 strip steak? That will be $10 more. Want a baked potato? That will be $8. Want a cup of soup? $9. It felt as if we were nickel and dimed, but with a couple of zeroes added to the end. None of the sides struck me as the least bit interesting or creative; everything was predictable. Why not use the Dutch theme as a means of introducing something unique to these midwestern palates? 4. Below average presentation. At this price point, you'd think they would at least attempt an impressive presentation. However, with the exception of the cocktails and one of the entrees, there was scant evidence of any effort at impressive presentation, much less success in that endeavor. 5. Struggling wait staff. This likely is partially attributable to the fact that the restaurant is new. However, there were at least a half dozen issues ranging from bringing the wrong cocktails, to presenting the a guest with the wrong entree or cocktail (happened at least 3 times), to repeatedly attempting to remove an appetizer plate they had been told we wanted to finish (this happened so much it became a running joke at the table). Overall it gave the impression of a wait staff that had little experience, much less any experience in a high end establishment. The good news is that many of these issues can be fixed. Service, no doubt, will improve over time. Value (or even the appearance thereof) could be improved by pairing entrees with some creative sides (go on and charge me more for the entree with some novel side included). Presentation will improve once they discover they aren't competing with Goodfella's. My advice: go have a drink on their truly excellent top level bar, but hold off on the expensive meal until they work out these issues, find their identity, and get to a point where they legitimately can compete with well-established restaurants this category. Food was outstanding...we had the bitterbatten appetizer, I had the 8 oz filet Oscar style, superb! Hubby had the the Dutch filet and we shared the asparagus dish. Was going to give Lisse 5 stars... have been there for dinner with friends, enjoyed appetizers at the bar... even for a pescatarian, many wonderfully delicious options, attentive service, love that this is inCovington... but, there is one thing that really bothers me... when a manager or owner comes out and gives free food or special tastings, etc to a customer at the bar right in front of you while you are also sitting there ... so rude. Here is a tip. Read "Raving Fans". For probably less than a $1 you could have had a fan for life by just turning to the other customer sitting next to your special customer and saying I'll bring one right out for you, too. read more

My husband and I went for New Year's Eve dinner and had a good time. I read a lot of mixed reviews, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Our server was very friendly, funny, and attentive. He was great. We also had pleasant interactions with the staff at the front desk. The hostess did seat us at a table and then immediately move us to a different one. No idea why. Saw this happen to another group near us as well. Oh well, no matter. On to the reason we were there - the food. Everything was very good. The draft beer selection was great, and that was very unexpected. We both got drafts we don't normally see available many other places. We each got a half Caesar salad to start, which tasted just fine. It had a piece of fried cheese on top of it, which I found strange, but it was good nonetheless. For entrees, I got the rosemary chicken. It was good, but not "blow me away" good. It came with a creamy risotto, which was the best part. The chicken was well cooked, but didn't have much flavor. In fact, I didn't really taste rosemary at all. My husband enjoyed his Delmonico steak with bleu cheese butter. He said it was cooked very well and tasted unlike other steaks he's had, in a good way, but it did have a lot of fat. We shared a side of smashed potatoes (everything on the menu is ala carte) and they were good but a bit lacking in flavor, I thought. For dessert we tried the apple cobbler, which was super tasty and piping hot in a little mug. Yum! Overall, we had good service and good food. I won't say I was blown away by anything but we enjoyed it all nonetheless. The building is very nicely done and looks beautiful both inside and outside. There are several different "compartmentalized" areas to eat that are separate from one another, which makes for a bit more intimate and quiet experience. The prices were a bit higher than the quality, in my opinion, but we knew going in that it was an upscale steakhouse and would be priced as such. This was our first time here, we thought we would give it a try for our Christmas Eve dinner. We had a 6:45 reservation and used the valet service for our car, which was very convenient. Once inside we were greeted by the hostess staff, they were very professional. We were taken to a table for two in a very dark corner next to a door...horrible table! Fire alarm right in the middle of the wall between us, I should have asked for a different table but thought it's xmas eve lets not be difficult! Bad idea!! They should never have seated us there. I ordered the Van Gogh (medium plus) my husband had the Delmonico (medium)his steak was a bit tough, my steak was on the cool side, I had the bernaise sauce which was cold, we also ordered 2 sides in addition to our soup and salad. The service was mediocre, the timing was off when it came to serving, they brought our entrees to us with our dirty salad and soup dishes in front of us. We had to look for our waiter to order wine for dinner. For the price they really need to work on a higher level of service. Will we go back, not likely. I came here with a friend in the midst of their soft opening, mostly because we were feeling fancy and were child and husband-free. While I enjoued my meal (pasta with some sort of seafood), I wasn't blown away by it, which I would expect to be based on the price point. I liked our server, she was very nice, fairly prompt and helpful, but she didn't seem to have the polish or poise of a professional server, again, something I would think was a must. I would never mention my personal opinion of just one server expect that most of the staff there seemed to be of the non-professional caliber. From the moment we walked into Lisse's we were greeted with warm smiles, inviting personalities and extroidnary customer service. Mark gave us the option to be seated at the bar downstairs where there was live music or take us upstairs to the rooftop lounge. He took the extra time to personally escort us upstairs, showed us around, gave us breakfast suggestions when we inquired and chatted with us about our nearby hotel we were staying at. I can't say enough nice things about Lisse. I was there with a group last night celebrating a family birthday. The remodel looks awesome, service was great, and the meal was perfect. We decided on Lisse for our 13th wedding anniversary dinner. I read the reviews on Yelp and knew that it wouldn't be perfect. The restaurant had only been open for less than 2 weeks. I made a reservation for 6:45 and arrived around 6:30. We were promptly seated at a nice table in the corner of the main dining room. We ordered drinks and an appetizer - chicken satay and a bourbon for me, cosmopolitan for the wife. Drinks were great. The chicken satay needed something. The peanut sauce seemed to be simply peanut butter with some spice to it. It really looked like they just spread Jiff peanut butter on some naked chicken strips. The chicken without any sauce was very bland, so the only flavor we got out of it was the peanut butter. Would not order it again, which is disappointing because I love chicken satay (Teak has a very good version!). The plating was nice though. We noticed some of the tables around us were getting bread - we looked forward to getting some too! After asking about some of the menu items, and about to order, the waiter just then remembered to tell us about the specials - he looked surprised that he remembered to tell them to us. I ordered the strip steak medium rare, side of Bearnaise, and my wife ordered the salmon special (paired with crab and asparagus and some sauce). We ordered the mac and cheese side. Sides are large enough to share with 2 or 3 people. We watched another table get some bread. Or food arrived in a timely manner and was plated nicely. They seem to like to use some kind of green stem as their accent, as it was on my steak and on our chicken satay.My steak was cooked medium, not medium rare but it was VERY good. The spices/rub they use is very good and the meat was very tender for a strip steak. I normally order fillets at steak houses, but decided to mix it up tonight. I was glad that I did. The bearnaise sauce was better better than Jeff Ruby's sauce and complimented the steak nicely. My wife used it on her salmon too. Her dish looked very nice (I don't eat seafood) and she really enjoyed it. Wish we had some bread. The mac and cheese was...okay. Upon our first bite, we both agreed what we were eating was penne with an alfredo sauce. It was still very tasty, but I certainly wouldn't have called it mac and cheese. We had a $100 visa gift card to pay for part of the meal along with a credit card. When the waiter brought back our receipts, the gift card receipt was for $88.13 and the remainder was put on our credit card. We were VERY confused about the whole situation. The Visa gift card had never been used for anything else, peeled directly from its cardboard before going to the restaurant. We assumed it had to be some mistake on our part but it still bothers me. I may contact the manager later and ask about it. We finished the night with a drink on the rooftop bar. We made our way to one of the balconies added to the building after the remodel. It was very nice out there because it was nice and quite and private. No speakers blaring. There wasn't bread there either. I will try them again - this is just their soft opening, I think the grand opening is Aug 24th. The wait staff was certainly not Jeff Ruby high end -served me first when our meal came, reaching across the guest, oh -and the kicker for me - after removing our dishes, the waiter's assistant used one of those bread crumb scrapers on our table cloth! I thought this place was fantastic with one caveat (ok maybe two) - the steak was not phenomenal and it is slightly over-priced. That being said, great ambiance and great service. We arrived because a restaurant that shall remain nameless across the street had us waiting 2.5 hours for a table and we finally gave up. Lisse seated our party of 8 promptly and when I told the waiter we were starving he hopped right to it. We ordered the cheese plate and it had a nice variety of cheese, olives, pickles, mustard and bread (and served the table). I split the winter salad with cherry vinaigrette and it was very good (and they split it for us). I had the walleye with grilled artichokes on the side and both dishes were fantastic. The fish was crunchy, flaky, caper-y goodness. My husband got the New York Strip and it didn't have a lot of flavor and was not very tender (esp. for being medium rare). So I wouldn't order steak here but otherwise loved the food! Tried some carrots and brussel sprouts as well and all were very good. Nice cocktail, beer and wine selection so can't go wrong, lively bar scene as well. Definitely an upscale, special occasion restaurant but good menu, service, atmosphere and food. Don't let the "Dutch" thing fool you.....this is one of the best NY Strip steaks in town (including all those folks north of the river!). Just finished another great meal here....charming young lady at the piano adding atmosphere to a lovely evening. The rye bread was warm and delicious. Jeremiah our waiter was excellent (meaning attentive without being annoying for me). A nice romantic spot whether on your first date (or like me on your fourth decade of marriage!).... read more

I have stopped in twice, just to check the place out. They obviously spent an enormous amount of money on the build out, creating a very modern and open and huge space. It is great they did so and the building looks great. It takes a whole lot of people, however, to have this 3 story giant feel slightly full. I have not eaten a meal, but the menu looks to be all over the place, and I have no idea what Belgian food is after looking through the offerings. Maybe it is the look and style of the place that is Belgian, and they eat the same food everyone else does. Fair enough. Why, in 2016, a new place would make the conscious choice to dress the men in nice slacks and button down shirts, and put the women in high heels and very short, very tight, black dresses, is beyond me. I guess they are shunning couples and families and going for the over 50 male Guido crowd. My wife won't go back and a family certainly won't want to take their children. It is a choice that reflects very poorly on management. The first time I went, we lasted one drink downstairs. It was crazy loud and only 25% full. The second time we lasted one drink on the 3rd floor. Not as crazy loud but tasteless (see above). Since the atmosphere really stinks, there likely won't be a third trip or a meal, which is a shame because we were really looking forward to this addition. read more
