What a wonderful time dining here. This restaurant is charmingly owned by a Dutch couple who have replicated many traditional dishes from their home town in Lisse, Netherlands. To start we had a beautiful charcuterie platter which included a homemade marmalade and many beautiful varieties of meats and cheeses. The steaks are worth mentioning due to the fact that the owner personally raises and cares for the cows that are served. It is truly farm to table and the taste is out of this world. We each had a steak, ranging from porterhouse, sirloin's and filet mignon's. I had mushrooms on the side and béarnaise sauce. While the other couples had compound butter on top which was delicious. What's going on here? For the last two years the quality of food and service have been phenomenal. That seems to have changed. There are too many other restaurants out there to risk a repeat of my most recent dining experience. The quality of the food seems to have decreased drastically. The whitefish appetizer was lacking, and my wife's salmon entrée was nothing but mediocre. The worst was my $52 dry aged strip steak. While properly cooked to medium rare, it was still bland, dry and tough. We had multiple issues where the manager should have spoken to us, but didn't. I told the hostess of a concern about the clothing of one of the other patrons which went unaddressed, and my wife found a shard of glass in her side of broccoli. Both were ignored and unacknowledged, except for the waiter questioning if we wanted something taken off our bill, which we declined. Our concern was glass contamination of other food in the kitchen. In frustration, I spoke to the manager on the way out, and it was IMMEDIATELY obvious that she doesn't deal with problems and absolutely didn't want to deal with me. Could I have handled this better? Yes. Should she have been a receptive professional that's supposed to be addressing customer concerns? Absolutely. Even if she had zero plans to resolve my concern, at least she should have talked to me and recognized problems existed. So what do you currently get for the premium prices they charge? Mid to low level chain restaurant quality and the feeling your dining dollars would be better spent at a different restaurant. read more

I'm torn on this one. I was really looking forward to seeing what had become of the old Chez Nora. I wasn't disappointed in the overhaul, the decor is beautiful and the new space is nicely done. Now on to the important stuff, the food. You should know that you are paying Ruby's prices here, so I was expecting Ruby's quality food, they aren't quite there. They start you out with bread, which was fine, nothing outstanding. Next up, I had a caesar salad, which sadly may have been the highlight of the meal. Maybe I made a mistake ordering the flounder, but it sounded so good (topped with crab). It was fine, but pretty bland. I was able to taste someone's steak, and while it was good, it doesn't compare to Ruby's. We also had the mac and cheese, it was tasty. We were disappointed as we had made a note in the reservation that we were celebrating, yet no mention was made of it. I guess if you're over here and looking for fancy steak, this is your place. Fantastic experience beginning to end, the appetizers were awesome cheese and meat board, shrimp, crab - you were able to pick out the crab meat from the legs. Recommended steaks were New York strip with butter topping and sides that were large enough to share. Each course was better than the last right up to the chocolate dessert and Apple with ice cream. This is an great steakhouse in the Mainstrasse area of Covington. I have been here a couple times and the food has consistently had amazing flavor. I had the seared tuna dish as pictured. It tasted great but was a smaller portion than I was hoping for. Several of the people at my table had a filet oscared and it's definitely one of the better steaks I've had in the Cincinnati area. The table got Mac n cheese and Brussel sprouts for sides. The Brussels were great but the Mac seemed a little dry. During the warmer months they have a rooftop deck that looks at the Cincy skyline and every night of the week they have live music. The performers the night I went were really good. We went here for a saint Patrick's day shot, and saw something called a "unicorn shot." It was basically just some blue liqueur with vodka. And sprinkles on the rim. It looked cute, but tasted bad. I'm not a vodka person, so it probably was a bad choice in the first place, but the bartender assured us it didn't taste like just vodka, and it sure did. The chalkboard outside the restaurant advertised the shot as $5, and we were charged $8. I've never been here for the food and am interested in trying it. The atmosphere was good and the staff friendly. One negative experience won't keep me from going back, but it will give me pause. read more

This was my first time visiting Lisse, and I have to say, I can't wait to go back! I shared a salad and 2 appetizers with a friend before a concert. We had the winter salad which consisted of mixed greens, roasted brussel sprouts, goat cheese, apples, dried cherries... and it was awesome! It felt very light, but full of flavor. Just have half of the salad was plenty, so I recommend splitting before an entrée. We also shared the caprese flatbread and gouda sticks. The caprese flatbread was outstanding. The crust was crispy and the mozzarella, tomatoes and basil were very fresh. The star of the show was the balsamic reduction drizzled over top. It was sweet and gave it a little something extra. The gouda sticks were good as well. Felt like fancy cheese sticks. I'm not sure I would get them again, basically due to wanting to try other apps, but I'm glad I tried them! Overall, the atmosphere is casual, but the service feels fancy. I think I would prefer to come back on a warm night and sit outside on their 3rd level deck that has a gorgeous view of the Cincinnati skyline, and then have dinner at the bar area. It was served with an excellent grainy mustard and the whole dish was very good. For the main courses we had the seafood pasta and the Dutch filet. The pasta was very good, particularly the scallops and bits of lobster. The steak was ordered at medium and came out that way. It was tender and flavorful without being overly seasoned. The steak included mashed sweat potato, with potato and carrot. Lisse also offers a good selection of craft beers and cocktails. I've literally never left a review before however I have never been so sick after eating a meal. I went to Lisse with my boyfriend for the first time a year ago for our anniversary and spent literally 270 dollars, and he left sooo sick. Not from overeating, he was very visibly sick. We thought maybe it was just a bad shrimp cocktail (but I had one too and wasn't sick). We went back last night and again, spent about 240 dollars (mind you this gets you a glass of wine, app, dinner, and a side). I was the one who left extremely sick that hit me the second I walked out of the restaurant. Both times we only had one thing different between our meals so maybe they were served to us expired? What a very pleasant surprise!!My wife and I attempted to dine here twice before. The original reservation that we made to celebrate our anniversary was canceled because the Governor decided that would be a great day to stop in restaurant dining in KY. Several months later we arrived to find that the restaurant had suffered a power failure...no reservation for you. Both of these were not Lisse's fault. We set up another reservation for the following weekend and we got in!! Well worth the wait. The appetizers, main course, sides, and deserts were incredible. Outstanding wait staff and a really beautiful atmosphere. We dined with another couple who had the same experience. He was a professional chef and said that it was one of the finer steaks he had eaten! (This guy is super picky and a real foodie so that was high praise). We ordered the root chips for an appetizer; again they were good but not great. For dinner, I got a filet and my husband got a ribeye. Both steaks were delicious and cooked exactly right. We were seated promptly and a server was at the table in a reasonable amount of time. We ordered drinks and an appetizer. Those took longer than we expected to be delivered. After that, our server, Jocelynn, greeted, served and waited on other tables but did not revisit our table for 30 minutes. There was live acoustic music on the bar side which was the perfect distance from our dinner table in the dinning area (wasn't too loud). For dinner I ordered the van gogh filet oscar and it was perfect. I ordered the wedge salad too, very good. Clay had the pork chop and really enjoyed his meal as well. For sides we ordered the mac and cheese and brussel sprouts, i'd order them both in a heart beat again. Overall the meal was amazing and we will 100 percent be going back. Had a great meal here last week with a friend. Chef sent out a couple of new apps he's adding to the menu and the were consistently excellent, great balance and great flavors. Presentation was beautiful as well. I had the dry aged Sirloin and it had that great crust and concentrated flavor that you would expect. Brussels Sprouts were simply amazing. Buddy had the seafood pasta and he pretty much stopped talking until it was done. My Old Fashioned was great as well. The waitress said others had also complained about that wine. We ordered shrimp cocktail. It never came. My wife ordered a salad. A simple, veggie salad. I ordered egg rolls and Brussel sprouts. The salad was microscopically small. I mean, four bites. Worthless. The egg rolls were fried and, while hot and large, they were flavorless. The Brussel sprouts were really freaking spicy. They were too big. Some were cut smaller. Some were not. And they weren't all roasted evenly. The service was slow- and I don't mean "fine dining slow" - I mean, "complain about it slow." The 6-top next to us asked twice about their food. Same response both times, "I'm sure your food will be right up." Maybe had we been super hungry and ordered the steak we'd have a different review. We had Bitterballen as starter, which was okay, if you like that kind of thing. As we weren't too hungry we ordered a Caesar Salad with salmon and a Steak salad. The Steak Salad was mostly a slapdash affair with watery iceberg lettuce and pale, flavorless tomatoes, and the steak was just plonked on the top without being sliced. The lemon vinaigrette was the only saving grace, and the steak was good, but not exceptional. The Caesar's dressing was devoid of much flavor, and without the pungent punch you'd expect. This is In my opinion the best steakhouse In NKY. We showed up on a rainy Saturday night , used the valet parking, poor valets were drenched , and promptly showed up for our 530 reservation. We were seated up on the second floor. Service was excellent! The waiters were on top of it. We had the Van Gogh with king crab and the Mac and cheese for a side. Had it cooked medium rare. Paired it with a IPA and a mojito. Followed it up with espresso and vanilla bean ice cream for dessert. Excellence. Would definitely come back again. We visited on a Saturday night for dinner with a group of 6. Having been to Chez Nora in the past, I thought the interior upgrades were great. The place looks nice. The waitstaff is very friendly, the food is *mostly* good. However, our experience did not match the price point. The food is very expensive, and while it was tasty, it felt overpriced. The service was painfully slow. From the start of our experience to the time the checks came, it was nearly 3 hours. Either the kitchen was mismanaged or the server wasn't quite attentive enough, but it was not worth the price. It took quite awhile to even order appetizers and there was a huge lag between appetizers and entrees. We even ordered dessert (their house made ice cream) and when it arrived it was half melted - as it had obviously been sitting for awhile. Honestly, it was nearly soup. Then again, another long lag waiting for our check. When the check arrived, I was a bit sticker shocked. We did get drinks, entrees and dessert, but our bill was still quite a bit more than anticipated based off of our satisfaction with the food and the service. It's probably a nice place for apps and drinks in their front bar, but I don't think I'd plunk down that much money there again. read more

After reading some mixed reviews of this restaurant we decided to try it out. As it was cold and rainy outside, it was nice having a valet greet us right at the front of the restaurant. The reception was friendly and immediately took us to our seat. The interior of the dining area is modern and contemporary - with good mood lighting. The bar area was also very nice with live music. It's cool how they broadcast the singers voice outside, they have great singers I would recommend increasing the volume in the bar area as it would be nice to hear them more. The waiter was very well versed in the menu, specials, and had good recommendations. The waiter explained this was a Dutch inspired steakhouse....interesting concept. I ordered my usual old fashioned but this place has a different spin on it with blueberry infused - I would give it above average. For appetizer we ordered the crab cake which the waiter is explained was mostly crab compared to the usual fillers - for the most part he was correct and the crab cake was pretty good. For the main entree, we split a tomahawk ribeye. Plus points on the presentation, it was nice that the waiter brought out he steak and split at our table. That was nice of them to do that. Ordered the steak medium and it was right on point and overall the flavor of the steak is pretty good. We also got a side of lobster tail which was good but slightly too buttery. Probably could have just got the steak and that would have been enough. I want to try the lamb chops my next visit as that was a close number two choice. For dessert, we ordered the home made ice cream - cookies and cream and cherry jubilee. I can honestly say that the cookies and cream ice cream is one of the best I have ever had - the perfect mix of sweetness, cream, and texture. Props to the pastry chef. All in all, a good experience. My husband was in the mood for steak and we wanted to try somewhere new. I found Lisse and have been wanting to head back to Covington for quite a while. We went for an early weeknight dinner so it certainly wasn't busy. The staff was friendly and courteous. Atmosphere was clean and a modern. But more importantly, our meals were cooked to perfection. My husbands 10oz filet was incredible and my order of Halibut was amazing. I will definitely recommend this place to friends for quality. I thought the prices were a little steep but not outrageous. We came here last night for a business dinner and it was absolutely wonderful! The part of town this restaurant is in is adorable. The streets are lined with restaurants and bars and it looks like something out of a storybook. If I'm back in Cincy and have an opportunity I want to spend some more time in the neighborhood. With that being said I didn't know what to expect from Lisse but I was not disappointed. We started our meal with the Kaaskeoteen and Bitterballen. Our waiter advised they we dip the Bitterballen in a mix of the curry ketchup and mustard and I'm so glad I did - delicious! I then had the Greenhouse salad and it was very fresh and the dressing was unique and very tasty. I ordered the filet with 2 scallops for my entree and this filet was cooked perfectly (medium rare plus) and had the perfect amount of charr which I love on a steak! It's probably one of the best filets I've had. The scallops were also perfectly prepared - golden brown with a little crunch on the outside and just right inside. We washed it all down with a bottle Duckhorn Cab and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The service was right on top. Attentive but never annoying. I would definitely eat here again. read more

I know Lisse is still in the process of refining the details before it's grand opening, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. It was a nostalgic evening going back to the the locale for Chez Nora which held so many great memories over the years; however, other than the physical location, LIsse is nothing like Chez. While Chez grew old and worn, Lisse is modern, bright, and polished. Outside seating (4 tables) on the 2nd floor was a nice addition. This is essentially a steakhouse with a Dutch twist. Carpaccio and Bitterballen were quite tasty, albeit a little pricey for the portions. I indulged in the Pork Chop which was huge and served with a sauce carrots and potatoes. The sides of artichoke hearts and brussel sprouts which I tasted were just so-so. The steaks were done properly and presented appropriately. We tried to sample as much as we could and while I appreciate the fine dining experience in Covington, I think the steaks, chops, and sides weren't that remarkable, particularly in comparison to other pricey steakhouses in downtown Cincinnati. I know I tend to be more on the conservative budget side, but I don't think the cost matches the product. This is likely going to be a special occasion type place for the most part. In its heyday, the best part of Chez Nora was the rooftop and bar area. Although the bar has been redesigned, it is largely still intact. Similar to Chez, LIsse will likely become a great place for drinks before and after dinner somewhere else. read more

Great recommendation by a bar tender. We were in The town for the Patriots game and wanted steak. We were not disappointed. We loved having drinks at the bar while waiting on our table. Cozy and easy to carry on a conversation. When we were seated, the service was impeccable and the food was awesome. I enjoyed a NY Strip and was cooked perfectly to my liking. We came here for our Anniversary dinner and could not have been happier. We had the Dutch Filet (I had the 12oz). It was cooked perfectly! The shrimp cocktail was very fresh and the horseradish sauce was awesome, it had a wonderful kick from the horseradish with a nice texture that you don't often find. The service staff were very attentive , as you would expect from a fine restaurant. They were dressed very professionally , the look was very smart. After dinner we went to the third floor bar for a cocktail. They have completely reworked all of the decor, if you came here when it was Chez Nora , you would not recognize it! The views are outstanding and the remodel is very classy. I must mention that we were approached by the GM (Tim) twice during our experience before and after dinner. I know they haven't been open long but food quality was inconsistent. Staff were all very pleasant and the space was transformed nicely. We ordered the artichoke appetizer and the hollandaise was really overpowering. Luckily, I caught my dinner order in time to remove the bernaise since its the same base. Way too much lemon and tarragon. I had the 4oz filet cooked over open flame with crab and compound butter which was absolutely delicious! We split the Mac and Cheese also wonderful! But, my husband's ribeye with mushrooms was heavily over salted. He hates to send things back but finally hit a wall and was sweating because it was just too much salt. The server was helpful but the chef wouldn't even come out when he asked to speak with him. We may try again once they work out the kinks. read more
