Getting Lunch "to go" at La Soupe
Jamie W.

Stop by and support La Soupe! Purchase, volunteer, or donate. They are a "Food Rescue" restaurant, caterer, and donator. I have tried broccoli cheese, mushroom bisque, vegetarian vegetable, fire-roasted tomato, and turkey chili soups. ALL FANTASTIC! Note: The menu changes based on food rescued from local retailers. They also have pre-made frozen dishes for those who like the convenience of "heat and eat." The staff is super-friendly. Don't hesitate to ask questions.

I stopped by for a quick lunch during the week and wanted an easy to-go sandwich. They have a medium sized menu but a lot of different options which makes it a bit hard to pick haha! I decided on a reuben sandwich with all of the fixens inside. I was surprised that I was the only one in there because of the amount of rave reviews. It was a small quaint little place. The employees were suppperrrr nice and gave me a lot of time to think about my order. The vibes in there were very cool with fun music and just overall a good time. Now onto the Reuben. Holy cow! It was juicy and very flavorful, with the perfect amount of sauerkraut. The bread was toasty and the sandwich was nice and warm but not too hot. I think this will be a new spot for me for lunch!

Essentially for me I had waited too long to eat and the idea of waiting longer was a non starter for me. Sandwiches are not my go to food outside the house, it seems silly on some level. However, the sandwich I had was fantastic and well balanced. There was a good amount of everything without it being too much. Sometimes it's too much. This was great. They also had good, homemade or freshly made sides like potato salad and other salads you could get. It was great.

I put in for reservations on a Saturday evening outside and I'm not sure if I needed it. However it was a great experience overall. Charlie was our waiter and he was super helpful and friendly. We shared some appetizers of salad rolls as well as the chicken wings. Five stars for those! My friend had the banh mi and I had the pho with meatball and brisket. Five stars! Delicious food! Literally all top notch. Looking forward to coming back and trying more.

We ordered a variety of entrees, but the highlight was definitely the pho. The broth tasted very close to what you'd find in California and even Vietnam, which was a pleasant surprise. Really rich, balanced, and comforting. The only downside was the lack of fresh herbs on the side. It only came with a dish of bean sprouts, so it felt like it was missing that extra freshness that usually completes a bowl of pho. Service was amazing, mostly students from UC. But everyone was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. Parking was pretty easy, which made the whole experience even smoother. Overall, still a solid spot, especially if you're craving pho that tastes authentic.

My parents and I went last weekend on a Friday, which ended up being perfect. The weather was amazing so everyone was out and about in the Mount Lookout area. We started the meal with the burrata appetizer and the brought some focaccia for the table. It was soooo delicious. The burrata was creamy and the arugula was super fresh, it was such a great combo. I ordered the rigatoni with tomato sauce and it had olives in it. OMG it was amazing. The olives were perfect and it was so creamy. The pasta was perfectly cooked. We also got the Tiramisu and a chocolate raspberry type cake (I don't exactly remember) for dessert. They were the perfect size for a small family meal to share. Their desserts rotate daily so make sure to grab them while you're there because you do not want to miss the exceptional desserts!!

Most places default to coleslaw, but these guys went with kraut, because fermented foods are clearly their thing, and I'm so glad they did. That kraut was next-level. Tangy, flavorful, and piled on just right. I might have loved it even more than the turkey, which is wild to say because the smoked turkey itself was juicy, tender, and packed with flavor. The pickle boat was also fantastic. Crisp, bright, and full of that homemade, small-batch goodness. You can tell they care about what they're putting on the plate. As much as I loved the food, the service really stood out. The gentleman at the register was kind, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. He even used my name when he checked back to see how my food was, which is such a simple touch but made a big impression. The only suggestion I'd offer is to update the website pricing to match what's currently being charged in the store. The difference was noticeable, and keeping that consistent would make the experience even smoother. Bottom line: a fantastic, unexpected find with amazing food and standout service. I will absolutely be back.
