1 nice counter person and 1 who couldn't be bothered. They were out over over half their salads. I Got the Broccoli Cheese soup...no cheese whatsoever just runny over pureed soup with watery mile, not even cream. The grilled cheese sandwich had no flavor (I didn't even finish it and I love all cheese) The condiment area was a plus but the music was too rough/ too loud, not everybody likes heavy metal, so I will not be going back read more

Yum, get here before the lunch rush. Had always wanted to try this place but didn't, assuming it was more of a vegan cracker and turmeric water place for some reason (both things I eat by the way just not by itself for lunch). I like me a classic soup and sandwich combo so I ordered that. The mushroom soup was very authentic, creamy and delicious. It didn't just taste like something that came out of a can but rather more like something you would get from Granville Island. The beef dip sandwich was done Panini style thank god because I like grill marks on everything I eat. It was the special of the day and who doesn't like beef dip with Au Jus? The dip was not super salty like most so we dipped both of our sandwiches in it until it was gone. Water to help yourself which is always nice and friendly staff. read more

I was walking by - never heard of it but I was pleasantly surprised. I had a bowl of chicken noodle and it tasted like home made. They also gave me a nice piece of bread to go with it. Funky industrial space and good value, I'll be back to try more items from a broad menu. read more

Short version: The food didn't sicken or kill me, but my high hopes were dashed. Let's get the tone-deaf name out of the way first. Hello? Think, McFly! What's the first thing "liquids & solids" brings to an English speaker's mind? It's not food. Well, maybe USED food. Still, it's just a name; not really very important if the place is good. But it's not. It's not godawful or anything, it's just uniformly disappointing. The sandwiches look great as presented, but...they aren't. The soups sound terrific as descrbed, but...they aren't. The dessert-y things likewise make promises they have no intent or ability to keep. None of it's abjectly bad; it's all edible, but that's all it is. Edible. Doesn't really matter what soup you pick, they all taste about the same. Ditto the sandwiches. I guess the name of the place is accurate after all; they sell liquids and they sell solids. I want more and better than that for my money, so I'm going elsewhere. What a shame. read more

This is really not a good soup and sandwich place. I have gone back a few times because there are very few places to grab lunch in the neighborhood and it is new. I have given them the benefit of the doubt because they are new and figuring stuff out. Today was the last straw. The cream in my cream soup had separated into big clumps and looked like cottage cheese (not the first time I have seen this from this place), and the pulled pork sandwich looked and smelled like dog food. It was minced very thin as was soggy and luke warm. I went to whole foods in the evening and I could not eat the sandwiches because the memory of this experience was still on my mind. I just love soup and was so happy to have a location open up closer to my work. I've been driving to the Venables St location since they opened a few years ago. Over the past few years I have probably tried all of the soups, mainly because they will give you a sample to try first. My stand outs are: Borscht, Chicken Noodle, Mexican Tortilla Soup, Bengal Lentil, Sicilian Chicken Noodle & Squash with apple. I cook a lot and these are flavourful & taste as close to homemade as you get. You can also buy soups to take home which is convenient. I'm not a sandwich person, but I have had the beef dip which is only on once a week & the grilled cheese - Cheesus Crust, which is amazing. Just like the Venables locations, the staff are warm & friendly & will bend over backwards to see that you are happy. I was puzzled by the somewhat malicious two, 2 star reviews (obviously friends). Go early or later. They can get busy around noon-1. Great variety & service & value! read more

Brand new location opened up in the neighborhood, I work in. The atmosphere is industrial, which I thought was cool. They let me sample their assortment of soups before I chose. I ordered the Grilled Cheezus panini and the Sun Tanned tomato soup. My soup was decent (I prefer more seasoning), but my sandwich was absolutely delicious. The staff were super friendly and personable. All in all I'd recommend this place for lunch to anybody. read more

Wow! We could not believe how amazing this soup and sandwich shop was! Our server Mauricio was fantastic! He was extremely attentive and a very nice person. My husband and I are on our honeymoon and we've visited very many restaurants in Vancouver. This shop was one of our favorites because of Mauricio. He gave us samples of the soups before we ordered anything. He even gave us some coffee and a cookie on the house. He told us that "we made his day" and he handed us the cookie as a thank you. He made our day so special. The food is delicious too! We couldn't believe how tasty the mushroom soup, 13 grain soup, the tuna melt, and the beef dip sandwiches were. Everything is made fresh in the cafe, and you can tell with the very first bite. Thanks Mauricio! You were fantastic and made our honeymoon even more special! :) read more

OK, I will admit I have driven past this place many times over the years, looked at the sign and thought to myself "well, that doesn't sound appetizing". Today, I was in the neighborhood and looked though the window, so I decided to try it out. Much to my delight their soup and salad offerings are absolutely delicious! I have food allergies, and the server went over a chart with me to determine what I could have. I got the chipotle beef stew (its really too hearty to be called a soup) and it was richly flavorful and satisfying. The spinach salad with candied pecans and dried cranberries was fresh and delicious. Their house dressing was an excellent addition. Overall, thoroughly impressed. read more

The sandwiches are actually pretty good but I'm going to have to give these guys 1 star based on their total lack of sanitary food practices. They do not wear gloves or wash their hands before handling your food. You have the same person taking your cash, wiping the counters with a visually filthy rag, wiping their nose, then getting your sandwich ready with their bare hands. I used to work two blocks away from this place and was a total regular (there's really nothing for lunch in the area but I digress), I'd go at least once a week. My favourite sandwich was the montrealer and it was amazing. The bread was perfect and the mustard was to die for, not to mention sauerkraut and corned beef. I got that sandwich all the time. They also had a beef dip special on Thursdays which was awesome!! I went back today after a few months off. My favourite sandwich was discontinued and there is no more beef dip special on Thursdays. I got the pulled pork and didn't really like it. It was too rich. I can't say I'm not disappointed but I understand things have to change. I don't think I'll be returning though as there is nothing else remarkable to me on the menu. I always get a soup here. Four stars for lots of vegetarian options (usually 4) and friendly service. You can get a small bowl of soup with bread for $4 or a large bowl for $5. It's nice to have a place with some appropriately priced, healthy options for this neighborhood. Yes, their sandwiches are more, but too big for me to even eat. Minus one star for the lack of spice in the soups. I'd much rather support this place than yet another overpriced hipster cafe. read more

The bread that came with it as meh, (prefer a baguette, just sayin') but had one of the best cookies ever for dessert, chocolate chocolate or something, then stashed away a ginger cookie for later which I shared with my wife who loved it. A hidden gem in the eastside Strathcona area. Although they have a low-key store front for the outside, inside you're greeted with mouthwatering smells and plenty of seating with a rustic DIY kind of feel. It's mainly a soup place that produces their own soup under the name Soup Etc. but the cafe serves a huge menu of paninis, pot pies, cookies, salads, and espresso drinks. All of its homemade and you even see kitchen staff making the soups in the back, a cool peek into how the products made and packaged before hitting the shelfs at grocery stores. The outrageous part is how cheap it is, you can get a bowl of Soup Etc. chili for $5 OR add any of their soups/chili's/chowder/stews for even cheaper when you get a panini or pie. Truly the cheapest deal for a homemade hot lunch, and the best price to get a bag of fresh soup at wholesale prices (they have a fridge stocked up and the selection changes weekly).
