The staff is amazingly friendly and they do a lot of good for the community here. Their cinnamon roll is to DIE for, and their savoury lunch stuff is EPIC! (I'm a huge fan of the grilled cheese + tomato soup but their chef has been all over the world and the soups are always amazing!) Also appreciate all of the options they have for gluten free / vegan cuisines.

November 2020 - got the grilled cheese and tomato basil soup. I MEANT to get the Thai wrap, but I guess my heart wanted the grilled cheese and tomato basil soup, so my mouth complied when I called in my order in. I just love it so much! I will eventually get the Thai wrap one day!

If you find yourself near the BC Provincial Law Courts in New Westminster and you're looking for a place to hide out, you only have to go across the street to duck inside The Hide Out Cafe. The Hide Out Cafe is a self-acclaimed "hidden gem" which serves up paninis, wraps, salads as well as Fair Trade coffee. I showed up on a sunny May weekday and decided to try their Grilled Chicken Panini ($10.49) with meaty chunks of chicken, creamy melted cheese, and sun-dried tomatoes. Their menu appears to be limited to whatever they have already prepared for that day. The panini press gave this sandwich a nice crunchy exterior and turned a rather ordinary sandwich into a pleasantly hot, ooey-gooey treat. Perhaps not the best sandwich that I've had and I'd prefer if the sandwiches were made-to-order, but adequate for the neighbourhood. They also have a hidden patio off the side of the cafe where you can enjoy the sunny weather.

Ok, so take a cafe. Add a FUNNER menu. Let some talented food-weirdos rename everything. Add some hot-sauces that your mother would scold you for as a child. It's worth a food-tourism trip! Yahoo on my tastebuds, YeeHee for my sense of humour!

Decided to pop into this cafe since they had a fresh cinnamon bun sign outside. I ordered a cinnamon bun but sadly it was hard. The lady did instruct me to heat it up for 30 seconds before I ate it but it was still hard after heating.

Best soup and sandwich place I've had. Although a little pricier than other places, the quality is worth it. Everything is homemade and fresh. Will be coming back.

Solid breakfast wraps, soup and latte! My lunch came to $17. I found that a touch pricey for the ambiance. The place looks like the standard coffee shop with board games and limited seating. The bigger tables are reserved only for groups of 3 or 4 people when I asked. My food was great. My wrap was loaded with cheese, egg and sausage. Broccoli and cheese soup was creamy. Latte was perfect.

We decided to share the flight of soup and a sandwich (Turkey Elaine). The flight of soup consisted of 3 mini bowls of soup (your choice) and it came with a cheese scone for $10. We had chili (delicious), wicked Thai chicken (always a crowd favorite) and roasted garlic tomato (tasty). The cheese scone was really good, buttery fluffy soft. I preferred this over the raspberry whites chocolate scone. The Turkey Elaine ($8.95) was freshly made on the spot. The Kaiser bun was warm and soft and went well with the Turkey, stuffing and cranberry. We ended the meal with the must get peanut butter square ($3.25). It was a wonderful start to our day.

It was clean and bright and we got a nice seat by the window. Our server was quick to say hello and take our drink order. I'm always impressed with the breadth of the menu here. I landed on the Seafood Yummy Hash, and hubby had the Big breakfast, again. Coffee and water came first, and we were both delighted at how good the coffee was. Most diner style restaurants have a very burnt tasting coffee but this was very smooth. Off to a good start! Food came out very quickly and looked amazing. Both dishes were beautifully plated, and the fruit on the big breakfast was not a typical canned special. Things took a turn at the first bite though. Taste 10/10, but our food was cold. Like cold, cold which was surprising given the restaurant was mostly empty, and it came out so quick. The quality of the ingredients was excellent, and very obviously in-house made, but both of our potatoes were quite literally cold, with some of the baby potatoes being hard in the middle still. The sourdough was also stale, but not just stale in taste, it was almost like it had been toasted well in advance and then plated. The review on the big breakfast remains the same as last time. Sausage was amazing, but the bacon and the ham left something to be desired. The server took some time to return back to our table and check in on us. When she did I told her our food was cold. She just kind of made a face, said oooooh, apologized, and that was it. She also had to be reminded to refill our coffees a second time after asking. The last shock came with the bill. While the prices overall were reasonable for very large servings of food, two black coffees came to $11. I know we raved about them at the beginning of the review, but not sure they were $11 good. Really wanted to love it, but not sure it lived up to expectations this time.

It literally changed our lives, and that is not an exaggeration. We get their pumpkin flax gluten free loaf and are never turning back. We turn all of our friends on to their products and can happily say we have converted a fair share of people over to 6th ave bread. While we mainly get their fluffy delicious bread (at least a couple loafs per week) they also have other products that are to die for. First, they make hamburger and hotdog buns out of the same ingredients they make our bread from, which is super convenient for us. They also have a bunch of treats (chocolates, tarts, etc.) in the store which I often treat myself to whenever I go in to pick up bread. This is heaven for people with food allergies, especially gluten, but to be honest it's heaven for everyone else as well. They've got us hooked and are definitely doing something right!

Both drinks were made exceptionally well; impressively smooth, foamy, balanced, and clearly prepared with care rather than just being an afterthought. It feels like a space built for connection, not just coffee. I also love how it transforms depending on the day. The daytime café energy is cozy and welcoming, while on select nights they stay open longer, serve alcohol, and host regular events like DJ nights, board game nights, and other community gatherings. It gives the space a lot of personality and makes it feel alive beyond the usual coffee shop experience. Definitely one of those places that feels more like a neighborhood hub than just a café. The soup is lighter than the stew and not as spicy. It's flavorful and comforting. The Fufu was a more yellow color and I believe it was made with corn. This is only available on the weekends.
