Stumbled upon this cafe in New West after having our car serviced at Ford. I ordered a latte with cashew milk while the hubby ordered their breakfast wrap. The lady at the counter was really nice and friendly. My latte was well made while the breakfast wrap was served grilled and it was tasty and filling. The cafe has a homey ambience and they had lots of seating available. Wifi is free and bathrooms are clean (just ask them for the key). Street parking is available with a fee. read more

If you find yourself near the BC Provincial Law Courts in New Westminster and you're looking for a place to hide out, you only have to go across the street to duck inside The Hide Out Cafe. The Hide Out Cafe is a self-acclaimed "hidden gem" which serves up paninis, wraps, salads as well as Fair Trade coffee. I showed up on a sunny May weekday and decided to try their Grilled Chicken Panini ($10.49) with meaty chunks of chicken, creamy melted cheese, and sun-dried tomatoes. Their menu appears to be limited to whatever they have already prepared for that day. The panini press gave this sandwich a nice crunchy exterior and turned a rather ordinary sandwich into a pleasantly hot, ooey-gooey treat. Perhaps not the best sandwich that I've had and I'd prefer if the sandwiches were made-to-order, but adequate for the neighbourhood. They also have a hidden patio off the side of the cafe where you can enjoy the sunny weather. read more

Amazing food. Every thing is premade, usually I would have an issue with that, but when they grill the food up, I wouldn't have known it was premade if I hadn't seen it my self first. By premade they make their meals the day before. They are a smaller and pop shop, I couldn't believe how busy they get , for such a small space . Recommend : mango chicken wrap/ or the tuna bagel sandwich, or the breakfast wrap. I can't decide between the three that I love the most. I hate when you get to the middle of something and it's luke warm or cold. Please try the mango chicken wrap and grilled cheese with tomato soup when it's on special. Please try the Baja wrap! It is really good. I love the cheese! It is very well-balanced. The pulled pork wrap is nothing to sneeze about too. It is a huge wrap filled with meaty goodness; the sauce is not overpowering either. Mel Ann is the owner of this awesome establishment. I love all the snacks and the fact that they have coconut water. She even holds cool board gaming events every other week. It is a great promo. Pay $10 for some yummy food and all the board game play you desire. Parking isn't bad at all. There is plenty of street parking, and it isn't too expensive for the meter. Since it's located near the Law Courts and Douglas College, it gets packed during lunch times, so be aware of the notes posted about the place asking for your conscientiousness and patience. The coffee was ok, but the service was terrible. A mid/late-thirties asian woman who seemed to be the owner (the way she was being condescending to other staff was a hint) was rude to say the least. I ordered two coffees for my friend and I and during the transaction she made a couple of comments about having to break a $50 bill, no greeting, no thank you, no smile, no return from us. My friend waited by the coffee pick up area and had to ask for some foam to be scooped out and she gave him attitude as well. The kitchen/cooking area is also poorly ventilated since the entire establishment was overwhelmed with the smell of whatever they were recooking in the back. I've lived in the neighbourhood for over 4 years and had never given this place a chance. At least I know eliminated it as an option. Small business owners (and their staff) should be courteous and inviting to be set apart from chain/franchise competition. They fell way short of that at this place. read more
