The Broadway strip is slowly being revamped (aka torn down) to make way for the new bus line going out towards UBC. Deja Brew is centrally located just off Oak street. It's quite the hole in the wall, tucked ever slightly behind the massive Indian restaurant with a maroon canopy (this one's a can't miss). My point is, the little cafe is probably the most unassuming gem in the neighbourhood! The storefront has a rustic / cosmic-y cafe vibe to it with the stainless accents here and there, I would not assume a great meal comes from a place like this. While in the area for a quick appointment, I was able to grab my morning coffee & an afternoon snack from here. I had pre-ordered from the apps to ensure a smooth pick-up on arrival. I realized from the FRIENDLIEST staff that my item was not yet baked, and that's okay, because now I know they bake EVERY item fresh in house on the day of! I opted for a cinnamon blueberry scone (confirmed: warm, fresh baked within the hour by FOH staff), I receive this pastry item still warm in hand, my intent was to have it for lunch but ended up having it as a pre-dinner nibble instead. It was moist, wasn't overwhelmingly sweet, overall delicious. My morning was fuelled by an iced caramel macchiato. The backstory with me and iced drinks is that I typically refrain from ordering iced, milk-based drinks, because they're typically watered down 10mins in from melting ice cubes, and my lactose-intolerant self does not react well with watered-down milk products. I had this drink until noon-ish, flavour wise, excellent, post-melted ice! As a Starbucks regular, I'm confident to say this caramel macchiato is even better than Starbucks. From the friendly staff, deliciously caffeinated coffee and fresh baked goods, my venture out to Deja Brew really made my day; from morning coffee to late afternoon, I was truly impressed! Holy *********. You pop into this unassuming shop on Broadway across from VGH, pick up a quick bite with coffee. You bring it back to the hospital (or wherever you work) without much expectation, and have to excuse yourself after your first bite; there is no way that anyone can witness the sloppy foodgasm you're about to have. I had the tuna melt with their tomato soup. I still think about it from time to time. The coffee was also pretty darn good. A meal will probably run you in the $10 range, but oh lord is it worth it. This is a great little lunch place. I was in the area and really wanted a good, simple, sandwich - so I opened my yelp app and happened upon déjà brew. I got a half a BLT with the soup of the day (creamy onion) and it was delicious. It was about $9 (lunch special price) and in my opinion, priced well for what I received. The bacon was crispy - an important thing to me - and the veggies were fresh and mixed well. I didn't feel like I got too much of any particular thing (looking at you, most sandwich restaurants in Vancouver... cough cough too much bread). I've been meaning to check out this place for a while due to the rave reviews, and the opportunity finally arose. One of the best casual lunches I've had in Vancouver! There were enough specials to find something delicious, so I chose a half shrimp salad sandwich and soup combo. The bread was incredibly tasty, and the sandwich half a large, hearty portion with a satisfying filling. There's about 3-4 soups to choose from, I went with a clam chowder. You can tell they use quality ingredients here and everything is freshly made. Very glad I made the effort and skipped the usual Asian fare I often opt for in the area. New cafe bistro in the False Creek/Vancouver General Hospital area (first week open)! A nice change from the fast food and sit down restaurants along the street. Super fresh (dough for the flatbreads made in-house every morning), fast (took only a couple minutes because of a speedy flatbread oven) and yummy lunch option. They are a cafe so they open at 7am for you to get your caffeine/breakfast fix on the walk to work. Really nice owners with an attention to detail! Everyone should give them a try! Staff are super friendly and accomodating. The organic drip coffee is very tasty. The tomato basil soup tastes fresh and home made with some small chunks of tomato in it. The tuna melt is alright- nothing to write home about but even the half portion was packed with tuna. It couldve used more cheese. The bread under the tuna melt was amazing, it wasnt just a slice of bread but it seemed glazed with egg and toasted so it was crispy. Recently ordered a catered lunch from this delightful coffee shop. Although, not the cheapest sandwiches available, they are by far the BEST! Fresh variety of earthy, hearty bread's, great quantities of fillings. Tasty and irresistible .... that BLT, You are hard pressed to eat a whole sandwich, very filling and delicious. In a large office, not a single complaint! Order cookies as well, they were large moist, fresh, tasty and were consumed right down to the crumbs. This place just opened this month (I believe). I stopped by the other day for a coffee and snack because I work a half block away and though I'd give it a try. I was expecting the usual mass-produced baked goods and average coffee that is commonplace in the many, many cafes along Broadway, and I must say, I was very pleasantly surprised. The new owners have not only given this place a nice little makeover inside, but they seem to be baking and preparing everything in-store! Gluten-free and vegan options! Dare I say it - maybe even some healthy lunchables? The staff were very friendly. I am giving it 4 stars because I've only tried a cookie and an Americano, but I'll update again after I've tried more of the lunch food. I book marked this for future reference on May 5th. It's awesome that it's open really really early, however, sucks that it closes early as well. I've actually rode past this place many times on the bus thinking nothing of it, however, when I walked in I said to myself, "Why didn't I learn about this place sooner." Better late than never. Not only do they have a good selection of hot and cold beverages their menu eats are incredible. Everyone seemed really awesome and happy to work there. Everything is made fresh. I was told that the owner bakes until 5:00 am and then goes home and cooks for her family. You can't buy that love and you can't manufacture that either. Prices were very good. There is a lot of gluten free sandwiches including GF bread substitutions which made it easier for me to get my breakfast sandwich with my drink. Very warm feeling when you come in. I came here this morning before I went into the office. I'm not usually around this end of West Broadway and i've been meaning to try it. I'm glad I did. I was there just before 8 this morning so there was no line and lots of seating. The cafe and seating area was a decent size and had a variety of tables, bar stools and lounge chairs. I really liked the open concept of the kitchen area - you could see what is happening behind the scenes. I only grabbed a latte this time around. It was amazing. I appreciate baristas who know and understand that espresso has a shelf life of 5-7 seconds maximum before the crema floats to the top and shot essentially expires. I believe they use a Marzacco espresso machine which I find to give espresso a more authentic and rich flavor as opposed to the industrial espresso machines used at Starbucks ( I worked at Starbucks for 6 years). The milk was rich and creamy and steamed to perfection. The barista obviously knew what she was doing because on its own the latte had a sweet taste. The staff were friendly and really cheerful. On top of espresso drinks their menu featured sandwiches and fresh made pizza. I really have nothing to fault this place on. I will definitely have to come back to try the pizza. read more

I'm surprised this place isn't much busier being that it's on West Broadway. If you're looking for great service where they don't make the food back in the kitchen but they make it out in the open, that's truly home made home food this is the place to go. It's a sandwich and soup type of place that serves mocha lattes etc. Kind of basic but the service is good, goods fairly priced with decent portions and it's always tasty and fresh. This is such a great spot for some of Vancouver's best food. The fresh daily morning glory muffins are amazing (and healthy) as are all the baked goods but really if you want something special try the PIZZA! I love pizza and have eaten it from Rome to Vancouver and can honestly tell you that this is some of the best pizza available in Vancouver. I am vegetarian and Deja Brew caters to us and has gluten free items as well. But as to the pizza, it is made to order and ready in about 7 minutes (yes, I said 7 minutes)! It is hot and gooey and overloaded with toppings - never mind, if you can save some pizza for the next day it tastes so good cold. They also make spectacular sandwiches, salads and soups - oh I almost forgot about the tomato basil soup, how could I when it is sooo good - thick, rich and very tasty (and gluten free). Daily specials available as well! Desert is a whole other story - holy mac there is some good stuff here - peanut butter cheesecake is actually to die for as are Bliss Balls (doesn't that say it all?), lemon tarts, power cookies that rock, oh baby I could go on. Like others, I was really surprised at how great this place is. So far only espresso and pastries for me, but they were GOOD. Real food, not something baked somewhere else and shipped in wrapped in plastic. One of the people behind the counter (I'm guessing owner) is very friendly and personable...the other person..not so much, but hey, one out of 2 I can handle. Chef Natasha created an amazing luncheon plate for myself and my wife and combined it with a rich freshly brewed coffee. Deja Brew is solid, I have mostly good things to say, especially about their buckwheat brownies, if you haven't had one... get on it... its amazing. Sometimes I can get frustrated ordering, it seems to take a long time, and depending on the cashier, even one's that seem to have been working their for a while, its like they are unfamiliar with the menu... or maybe they just don't like their job, fair enough.
