    War Won Ton Soup
    Pamela P.

Found myself at work craving some good quality won ton soup, I've never been to Amelia's before and was pleased surprised to find this restaurant. I ordered their special which was, War Won Ton Soup, all fresh ingredients and tasted amazing. I'm very particular about my Won Ton Soup, since I make it homemade when time allows. I ordered in the restaurant for take out on my break from work, food was in my hands within 10 minutes and the women who owns the place was friendly and sweet.

It was clean and bright and we got a nice seat by the window. Our server was quick to say hello and take our drink order. I'm always impressed with the breadth of the menu here. I landed on the Seafood Yummy Hash, and hubby had the Big breakfast, again. Coffee and water came first, and we were both delighted at how good the coffee was. Most diner style restaurants have a very burnt tasting coffee but this was very smooth. Off to a good start! Food came out very quickly and looked amazing. Both dishes were beautifully plated, and the fruit on the big breakfast was not a typical canned special. Things took a turn at the first bite though. Taste 10/10, but our food was cold. Like cold, cold which was surprising given the restaurant was mostly empty, and it came out so quick. The quality of the ingredients was excellent, and very obviously in-house made, but both of our potatoes were quite literally cold, with some of the baby potatoes being hard in the middle still. The sourdough was also stale, but not just stale in taste, it was almost like it had been toasted well in advance and then plated. The review on the big breakfast remains the same as last time. Sausage was amazing, but the bacon and the ham left something to be desired. The server took some time to return back to our table and check in on us. When she did I told her our food was cold. She just kind of made a face, said oooooh, apologized, and that was it. She also had to be reminded to refill our coffees a second time after asking. The last shock came with the bill. While the prices overall were reasonable for very large servings of food, two black coffees came to $11. I know we raved about them at the beginning of the review, but not sure they were $11 good. Really wanted to love it, but not sure it lived up to expectations this time.

One of my favourite spots to hit. $22-25 is the highest priced range for a diner/cafeteria setting but the portions are huge. Loved the old heavy coffee mugs and thick diner plates. My friend and I shared the German Deluxe breakfast, and we were very satisfied: 2 slices of bread, 2 pieces of watermelon, a good palm size of pork schnitzel with gravy, 3 scrambled eggs with veggies and cheese (so good), hash browns, bacon (a little dry), ham (was not salty which I appreciate) and potato pancake. Let's just say, everyone that had their own breakfast had to do a take-out box! I've seen a few folks sharing. Coffee (regular hazelnut) can be refilled but you must help yourself at the front counter. Water is in the refrigerator on the right side with cups - again, help yourself. Oder at the counter and they will give you a number to place on your tabletop. Service was great and very helpful. Originally, the owner was German but not sure if they still have the business-hence the German influence of a lot of meat. Absolutely, I would be back.

We ordered the banana and blueberry pancakes and the German breakfast. The portion size was huge and the pancakes were bigger than my head. The pancakes were fluffy and not too sugary. The German breakfast came with three scrambled eggs topped with cheese and it also came with sausage, bacon and ham and a side of toast. We could definitely feed three people with two dishes. It was a good deal for the price. Would definitely return. The food came out within 10 minutes and we were finished very quickly.

Closed on Wednesday and Thursday. I happened to be in the neighborhood recently around noon and decided to try this place. Located on Ewen in Queensborough part of New West, it is not super convenient for people living outside this area. There is no other restaurants here except maybe Frankie G about half a km away. So it is a deliberate decision to dine here, not a "oh I passed by and decided to try" thing. Street parking is available. The neighborhood is pretty quiet. The menu is on the board. It is all about the silogs. They also sell Sans Rival cakes. I think only as a whole cake and not in slices. I don't see many cakes so probably it's for pre-order? I didn't know what to order as I rarely had silogs. I remembered my Filipino coworker raving about bangsilog (fried baby milkfish) and decided to get that. The fish was freshly fried. The eggs were done as requested (over easy)and served over garlic rice. The fish was nice but had many bones. I'll skip that in future. The garlic rice was so good. Their in house hot sauce was phenomenal. Spicy and sour. The eggs were good too. The owner and other staff checked on me often to see if everything was fine. It is a very homely place. I noticed the owner (lady boss) asked a young couple if the food was alright when they were paying as she noticed it wasn't finished. She then suggested them to pack it away and got them a to go box. It had a whole motherly/auntie vibe. Many of the diners are Filipinos. That's how you know it's an authentic place. When I was laying, I noticed a basket of mini muffins. I just had to get one to try. Ube bytes (1-2 bites). At $5.95 for 6 minis, they are not cheap. They were so good! It was very sweet that I thought they added condensed milk. Nope it was sugar. Cream cheese was listed in the ingredients too. Perfect with unsweetened tea or coffee. Great place for Filipino breakfast and baked goods. I wish there is more baked stuff.

A no frills type of restaurant - service is prompt, people are quick to eat and leave, and you're always satisfied. Along the wall is the menu and you can pick up to 3 things to go alongside rice and 2 eggs (your style). This time around I opted for the tocino and lechon, and both were really good. I've also ordered the tapa and that could taste a little tough just because of the meat itself, but also a good option. The portions are quite big and I'm usually taking some home for leftovers. Protip: get sunny side up or over easy eggs so you can use the yolk as the dipping sauce too!!
