This is a nice spot for some healthy food if you're in a rush. Prices are decent, but the portions are a little small for the sides. Thai Veggie Stew (5/5) This was really delicious, but it was really small for a side portion costing $4. This was super flavourful, and had a good amount of ingredients in it. Veggie Falafel Wrap (4/5) This was pretty good, but I didn't really get any sweet potato falafel. I wish it was a little more flavourful, but overall it wasn't bad. Southwest Quinoa (3.5/5) This was rather refreshing - you can't really go wrong with beans, corn, red bell peppers and quinoa. Tahini Beet (3.5/5) This was quite nice, and I loved the tahini dressing. The beets were sweet but the cauliflower could have been roasted more. Brussel Sprouts + Apricot (3.5/5) The flavour was decent, but the brussel sprouts and butternut squash could have been cooked for longer. Kale Caesar (3/5) This didn't really have too much flavour to it, but the crispy chickpeas were nice. The kale was very hard and crunchy, and needed to be massaged and de-stemmed. Overall, this food here is decent, and I would come back for the Thai Veggie Stew for sure. read more

Turkey chili was bland, ambiance and service industrial. But like eating in a basement

Maybe it's just me and the fact it was my first time to visit a Tractor. All I wanted was a kale Caesar salad - seems simple enough right? When I walked in it's an assembly line type setup and I was barraged with an interrogation about what protein, how many sides while I tried to explain I just wanted a salad. When I saw the size of the container I asked if there was a large version and then was given a lesson in bowls vs sides and relative weight in grams. Seems I had to get a bowl with 2 x 100g salad but then also add a third something. I opted for beet salad which was unceremoniously dumped on top of the kale Caesar. It was decent, expensive. I didn't love all of the salads were in giant prep bins pre made (included dressing) and that didn't help the overall flavour. Maybe it's just me but I don't get it and I'm t sure I would go back. read more

My first visit was years ago when I was going through severe food allergies and felt that this place would have not only healthier but cleaner food options. My requirement was simple: a warm dairy and gluten free meal with a protein such a grilled salmon, some complex carbs which they have quite a few to choose from. I generally go for a quinoa blend type grain option and some cooked vegetables. I do stay away from charred vegetables as anything cooked in this style is highly inflammatory and when you have food allergies it is one thing you do not want to add to your system. I also had their soup and most of them are really tasty. My personal favourite is the butternut squash. I really enjoyed the quality, taste and experience at Tractor Foods. It is in my opinion a much more satisfying food place than say a salad bar. I am pro TCM and Ayurvedic style of eating so it is all about boosting your digestive fire. Once I omitted raw salads and cold drinks my allergies also improved drastically. read more

Super easy, quick go to for good salads/soups/sandwiches. I think the prices are fair/average. Ive been here multiple times and I always get the market bowl, which is three sides on a bed greens. I can't seem to find a good third side (why I took away one star). I do love the lemon kale and mushroom pasta though! I'm happy to take any recommendations! read more

Great food and service - I was surprised and delighted. We came twice and the second time they didn't have rice, which was odd, but everything else was outstanding. New favorite "go to" place. read more

I went to this place with great hopes. Trustworthy friends had raved about it, both for freshness and quantity. They did alright on freshness, the quantity was disappointing. On the full chicken salad, the portion of meat was surprisingly small. That's on a $15 salad. It tasted fine, but I did expect more. I'm not saying I would never go back, but it is not a high priority. Bottom line: You can do better at this price point. read more

My first time here was a delicious and spontaneous healthy lunch date with 4 other lovely ladies. We tried a variety of their salads and sandwiches but my order consisted of the pork sandwich and the orzo/cauliflower salad. The sandwiches are good but not amazing while quite expensive! The salad on the other hand was amazing and really filling in a light, dressing with plenty of cauliflower, chickpeas and of course the orzo shaped pasta. I also tried their moroccan chicken stew and it was hearty and had lots of chicken! Overall, I love tractor and the many choices for healthy eats makes it perfect for a fulfilling lunch! read more

Good place to get something quick and healthy! Got a half chicken bowl with cauliflower and beet salad and the curried cauliflower and my friend got the chicken sandwich. The curried cauliflower is one of my favorite sides from tractor. It has a creamy yogurt dressing and potatoes. This was my first time trying the cauliflower and beet salad which was okay in my opinion. Not a lot of flavour and the addition of radish was a little bit weird. However, the beets were sweet and delicious. The chicken in the salad was pretty small and thin so I would recommend getting full chicken. I didn't try the chicken sandwich but my friend said it was good and it looked really juicy. The place is really clean and it looks like most tractor restaurants. Would come again if I need something quick! read more

Really starting to be one of my favourite take out restaurants! I've ordered from Uber eats and picked up by foot and always love the fresh and healthy food I get from tractor! I've gotten the half chicken bowl and the braised beef bowl and I loved them both. You get to choose two market sides I've gotten the lemon kale, Caesar kale, curried cauliflower, and southwest chipotle quinoa as sides before and they're all really great and seasoned well! Tractor really makes being healthier easier especially as I continue to order take out during COVID love it and can't wait to keep ordering more bowls and trying out some of their other meals! They're super quick I ordered online and it took about 8 minutes to be ready and picked it up hot. I've also ordered on Uber eats and it was quick and hot as well! Tractor has a variety of salads to choose from. There are greens and variations of quinoa salads. Proteins such as seared tuna and chicken can be ordered along with your salad. I noticed other diners got different salads to go with no protein. But ...I chose one of their quinoa salads with an add-on of an avocado and seared tuna. The entire dish tasted really clean but I wished the seasoning of the tuna could be a bit more well distributed. Parts of it tasted unsalted and other parts had a good amount of salt. I love how they grilled your avocado instead of just slicing it up for you. The space was welcoming and quiet. read more

Healthy nourishing food on 4th. On the pricey side for a walk-in lunch, but you get quality. Health-wise, this place is excellent. Definitely try it! Quality-wise, this place is exceptional. Go! Price point-wise. Go, once 'n a while. Nature light, bright and clean, Tractor is setup like a small modern cafeteria for the Kits crowd or work-lunch crowds. You line up, select your salad(s), select your protein or your soup. It's a la carte, mix and match. All healthy options with super foods. I had the mixed beet salad and kale & apple salad, with the Moroccan Chicken soup (~$15). Nourishingly delish and would consider ordering all these dishes again. Your lunch will likely be in the ~$11-16 range, and there's lots of sit-down places that you could go to in the area for the same price ... in the area, it's similar to: - Greens Market on Broadway - similar price point and food options, but better. - Sejuiced - healthy food options, but healthier (just no smoothies) *Tips for Restauranteurs* 1) Better consistency is needed when scooping the salads. I've been twice and the portions are not consistent. If it's a scoop and a half, make sure it's a scoop and a half and not less ;) 2) Aside from mix 'n match options, I would say people are very comfortable paying $7-10 for lunch, everyday, in this area. If you want a strong regular base, offer a daily lunch special for $8, everyday (ie. soup/sandwich, not just sandwich). I work in the area (about 7 mins walking) and I can see myself coming here all the time, if the price point was better. For now, once every few weeks! read more

Adore this place. Finally a decent salad place in Vancouver! Tractor serves up fresh, healthy food using the best quality seasonal ingredients. Came here on a Thursday night and it was somewhat busy. Ordered four salads between the two of us ($3.25 each): 1) Kale, radicchio, borlotti beans, toasted pumpkin seeds, dried cranberries, asiago cheese, creamy lemon dressing: tasty with a variety of textures and flavours that blended well together. Typically, I'm not a big fan of raw kale due to its texture but shredding it and mixing it with radicchio was a nice change of pace. 2) Roasted cauliflower, chickpeas, radicchio, orzo, feta cheese, kalamata olive dressing: yummmmm. Delicious and light for a pasta-based salad. 3) Organic quinoa, kale, pomegranate, butternut squash, mint, basil, lemon dressing: average compared to the other salads 4) Wild mushrooms, ditalini pasta, truffled ricotta cheese, fresh herbs: SO good. This one is a must try! Do yourself a favour and go try it now. Am somewhat obsessed with the heavy (but not overbearing) taste of truffle and fresh mushrooms. If you're just looking for a salad lunch, would highly recommend getting two. Maybe three would be better (or an entree salad) for dinner? We had two each for dinner and three hours later, we're already a bit hungry again. read more

Who knew salad can be so good?! I just finished yoga last night and wanted something light for dinner. I had a lot of questions and the guy helping me was really patient. He recommended the mushroom pasta salad. I don't even like mushrooms but I went with it and I devoured it. The GRILLED avocado was amazing. They drizzle it with olive oil, sprinkle it with salt n pepper and throw it on the grill for a few minutes. It was warm and buttery and really interesting- in a good way. You have to try it!!! Price isn't bad- 3.50 for the salad and 2.75 for the avocado. I wasn't super full or anything but it was enough. I literally could not stop thinking about it so I went back for lunch today :) read more

There are so many restaurants to choose from on W 4th but Tractor is my go-to lunch place. The food is fresh and healthy, the place is clean and the service is delightful. I've tasted almost all of the salads, sandwiches and grilled meats and veggies from this place. My favourites are the quinoa with goat cheese salad, the turkey sandwich and the grilled albacore tuna and grilled avocado. I can't get enough of them. The quinoa is cooked properly. Nobody wants to eat an undercooked quinoa. You want the shell to crack open so you get the nutrients. What I love about this salad is the way the goat cheese gets encrusted with quinoa. It's so soft to the bite and so creamy delicious. I can feel the goat cheese melting inside my mouth. Yum! The only reason I'm giving this place 4 stars and not 5 is because they toast the bread that comes with the sandwich too much. The bread becomes tough but it is still worth trying. The turkey sandwich is just the perfect blend of turkey meat veggies and mayonnaise. The grilled albacore tuna is seasoned just right with seasoning salt and olive oil. Seared and grilled perfectly on one side. Leaving the tuna meat juicy and flaky. The grilled avocado is a perfect combination with the tuna. For some reason the tuna brings out the flavour of the avocado and the avocado brings out the flavour of the tuna if that even makes sense. The service is always pleasant. The servers seem to be enjoying what they're doing and is knowledgeable of the ingredients of all the food they serve. I highly recommend this place if you're in the area and you prefer meals that are fresh and light and quickly served. read more

Such a wonderful place for a quick, casual bite. I really enjoyed my guilt-free lunch at this contemporary cafe/cafeteria. It was clean, bright, modern with rustic decor, and they keep everything simple. The open windows are a great element of the interior cause I really liked the natural light seeping in. The staff were friendly and attentive, even the chef exchange smiles! Extra props to the girl taking my order for being patient with me since I was having such a hard time settling with just one salad. They probably get it a lot though because their whole display of pre-made salads just look that good. I wanted a little bit of everything but unfortunately you can't get half and half. It's $3.25 per salad which is reasonable and they have different choices of protein that are made to order. My mom tried half order of pan seared albacore tuna steak with grilled lemon for $5. I'm picky with tuna and almost never like it cooked but it was surprisingly good quality and perfectly cooked here. I added a Butternut Squash soup for $6 and it was also very good. read more

It's so wonderful to have a healthy, relatively affordable place in the neighborhood. I go there for lunch quite often during the work week. I've tried almost everything and think the chicken breast with the white quinoa salad is my most regular order. The chicken is always so moist and perfectly seasoned. I only wish they would add a daily special or plan on switching items around for seasons (maybe they will) because it can get a bit boring. It can also get a bit pricey if your hungry and want 3 items and a drink (which I often do) but if your one of those people that doesn't eat much and wants a healthier place, this is your spot. Plus the quality of the food is wonderful. read more

Solid 3.5 stars. No doubt it's a trendy, healthy place and the Morrocan Chicken soup was tasty, for $8.40 for a 'bowl', the Stock Market on Granville Island is better for that. And you would get full. A place to be seen, date-worthy and I'm sure I'll be back to try the rest of the other stuff, as it's probably the best place in Kits with an open patio. Fast, fresh, convenient, healthy, delicious -- all the makings of a perfect meal. I have come here every day straight for a week and have now tried nearly everything on the menu. I like that you can easily and affordably sample so many things (salads are only $3.5 a scoop I believe) and get a very balanced meal. If you enjoy eating by colours (I do), Tractor is great, as the variety of foods in one meal spans the entire colour spectrum of the rainbow. This restaurant is also great for anyone who is trying to build lean muscle, as there are tons of "clean" protein options, from quinoa, to garbanzo beans, to their peanut butter Tractor Bars, to grilled chicken, shrimp, tuna (all delicious), among so many more I don't remember. Great concept and great execution. Haven't had anything I didn't like, and it's usually pretty busy which means the food is fresh. They don't answer their phone, but the email is monitored by competent people. I lost a set of keys and got prompt and professional replies to my emails about the matter. I typically spend $50 for two people, and for that you can mix and match tons of different menu items. Eating here always feels good, and this location is just a few blocks from the beach, my go-to destination after eating at Tractor. Will keep coming back. read more

I went here for dinner and I have to say the food is wonderful, especially if you're looking for something light and healthy, yet satisfying filling. I ordered the roasted beet salad with green beans, goat's milk feta, and herb vinaigrette, as well as the the Moroccan chicken with chick peas stew. I enjoy beets, and it was a good beet salad. It wasn't the most amazing beet salad I ever had, but flavour was decent. The real star of the meal for me was the stew. Hearty, flavourful, wonderful texture and served hot. Who doesn't enjoy a good stew? To top it off, it came with a delicious herb flavoured dipping bread on the side. I quite enjoyed the atmosphere inside as well. Casual and modern. Staff was friendly. I left satisfied. I would come back to try some of the sandwiches and other soups and salads. read more

This place serves several valuable purposes for this neighbourhood. First off, it turned an otherwise dead corner into a place to spend time and sit where there is plenty of natural light in a pretty nice looking redesigned setting. Great enclosed patio too. Sure it is a bit pricey for lunch food but the recipes here are really good and healthy. In this area there is a plethora of sushi, and (good) sitdown places for dinners, but lunch is a bit more of a fast food shawarma style affair, and this offers a great alternative. The chef here posted a recipe in the paper last year and it has become one of our poltuck faves. I give this place high marks and try to ignore the trendy aspect of it, and just enjoy a guilt free meal that really isn't much more than a foodcart. read more

Have eaten at different Tractor locations over the years, including Victoria. Was disappointed with the food at my last visit. Had the chilli lime tofu bowl and found the flavours "flat" and the experience very underwhelming considering the cost. I really don't understand the "grilled" bread-its just charred and cold and doesn't complement the soup very well. Staff was lovely, food not so much. read more

A great concept and contains many healthy options. Most of which taste great too. The reason I'm giving this only 3 stars is the price. In the area there are many great alternatives which come at a much cheaper price. A simple salad and half-sandwich will cost you aroubd $12-$15 here. Sejuiced or Fable - across the street - offer more for less. In the end you feel like you overpaid for what you get. Overall the concept is not bad and it's always busy (bonus : I have also seen some celebrities dining here over lunch time). read more

I am impressed by the simplicity of the menu, decor and concept of this place. This resto offers healthy choices and reasonable prices. Bf and I ordered tuna melt, turkey alfalfa panini, kale salad, macaroni w truffle salad, 2pcs grilled tuna, strawberry lemonade and gluten-free bar for dessert all for under C$50. The servings are perfect portions, the paninis were both tasty and spread had big chunks of tuna and turkey. The kale salad was so delicious and refreshing to the palate. I like that they spell out which item's vegan, gluten-free and nut-free. I will definitely come back and try the stews. read more

I am actually incredibly surprised this place doesn't have 4 stars. If you are reading this review, and are looking for somewhere to eat on the lighter side, then this is the stop! TO GET: - 3 salads, $9 .... I know it sounds expensive, but hear me out... - Mushroom pasta salad is DELICIOUS. They use an awesome selection of mushrooms, that is rich in earthiness and umami deliciousness. I am pretty sure there is some truffle oil in there as well making this my favourite salad at tractor! It is remarkable! - Kale salad. The kale salad is actually quite filling; it has seeds and creamy sauce with a nice fresh squeeze of lemon juice... YUM. - Curry cauliflower is also great; there is cilantro, mint and pickled red onion that compliments all the richness of the curry/potatoes. WHAT NOT TO GET: - This place is pricey, so don't get distracted by the sandwiches or desserts... the salad is where it is at. read more

stew was good, but the cold, soggy 'toast' should not have been offered. won't be returning.

The good: I love the variety of salads you can get here - it's awesome to have so many healthy options. The not-so-good: It's on the expensive side for what you get. It's cafeteria style, so you'd expect it to be easier on the wallet but by the time you order enough food for a good lunch portion, the prices compare to somewhere like Bistro Verde at Nordstrom (a lovely sit-down place with a view). Also, I had ordered the Moroccan Chicken soup not realizing that it fell under the "stew" category - I had asked the guy at the counter what their soups were and he didn't tell me the difference, so I was surprised to be paying $8 instead of $6. read more

A beautiful day. The Vancouver sun is like a red fireball glowing through a foggy haze more suited to Beijing, than Vancouver. The combination of the recent, unrelenting forest fires in the BC interior and the dry, windless summer heat has led to uncommon conditions in Olympic Villiage (and throughout the GVRD). But this doesn't detract from my resolve to take a brisk, heart-healthy walk and reward myself at the end of the journey, with a truly gourmet salad at Tractor. As soon as I get near, I see the walls of aqua-marine glass and the gaggle of hipsters, businessmen, and young parents pushing strollers. It's the perfect neighborhood for Tractor. It's not clear whether Tractor was here first and the hip, health conscious demographic grew around it; or the people willed it into existence. I'm guessing the latter. As soon as you enter, you know you're in for lunch on your terms - whether it's a 3 hour catch-up lunch with your closest friends that you haven't seen in 10 years; or it's a 30 minute lunch in-between back to back meetings. The fresh ingredients for your salad, soup, and sandwich are all on display. But not like you'd see in a Subway. More like in a futuristic kitchen that makes your food to order in an artistic manner. The salads look epic. True meals! They have the calories listed, as though they were psychic and knew that I was counting my calories on MFP (My Fitness Pal, for the un-inducted). I order the "Tractor Grains and Greens" salad, hearty enough on its own, but I add the protein option of grilled chicken breast. A full-on meal that could easily satiate the dinner appetite of Paul Bunyan, after a hard day chopping trees. (No old-growth forest, of course! :-)) They say that you dine with your eyes before a single morsel touches your tongue. Given that, Tractor will fill you up within a moments glance. But the actual food, once it does touch your tongue and fragrant aromas waft across your nasal passage, does not disappoint! But don't expect a bargain on the wallet. Even if you come for a late lunch, hoping for Happy Hour prices, that's one thing you won't find. The prices aren't "New York pricey", but they're Downtown prices in Olympic Village, for very good food! Until we meet again......Tractor! read more

Better bring your microscope so you can find the salad! It's funny, when Tractor opened roughly one year ago I remember thinking to myself, "This place will never make it!" Boy was I wrong. This cute lunch spot hit the jackpot with fresh, healthy salads, soups, and sandwiches. The menu seems to fit the Kits yoga clientele perfectly and the place is always packed especially around lunchtime. I got the pear, blue cheese, and arugula salad for a little under $4. Tractor seems to be trying to match Whole Foods' 2 for $6 deal on pricing. Indeed the salad itself is comparable in composition to WF but severely lacking in both size and girth. The main issue is that the portions are shockingly tiny! So tiny that you might be as surprised as I was to finish your salad in 15 seconds flat. My face contorted when I was handed my minuscule lunch in the cafeteria-style lineup. So much so that the cashier had to ask me if "everything was ok?" I guess the common thought is that you will pair it with a soup or a half-sandwich to round out the meal, but then the price jumps up to well over $10 (particularly if you choose a meat or fish protein option to top the salad). I left Tractor hungry and a bit bewildered by the whole experience. In retrospect, I suppose eating four fork-fulls of salad is a great way to keep the body in shape before afternoon yoga class. read more

I live in the 'hood and was excited for Tractor to open. I can't review it as I didn't try their food, but not for lack of trying. I went in at 6pm, dinner time, and ordered a vegetable sandwich. The server pointed to the roast beef one sitting behind the glass and said that's all they had left. It would have been nice to have been offered a freshly made vegetarian one. Maybe it's because they're new and haven't figured out their supply and demand yet. Not sure what they can't make them to order...it's just a sangy! I was disappointed but will give it another shot one day. By the way, went to Las Margaritas down the street instead, as I wanted something more substantial than a salad. Wasn't disappointed! read more

I would say that overall, I understand the appeal of Tractor. They offer a great variety of salads that are tasty. The sandwiches are mediocre, and I say this only because they need to offer more options. What compels me to give such a low rating are the prices -- $9 for a sandwich? Holy shit guys, c'mon. It's no wonder our modern-day society struggles with eating healthy when prices are jacked up so high. I'd love to come back to this place if they lowered their prices -- like the $2.50 charge for HALF an avocado?! Say what now? I was pretty shocked. I'll stick to making healthy dishes at home for a quarter of that price, thanks much. read more

Nice place! It's the next in a line of quick dine and dash cafeterias, with serve-yourself napkins, cutlery, and water, which makes it good for quick eats and also reduces the need to have to dish out on tips (which I have to object about upon my return back to Canada from my vacation over the Pacific). The decor is nice and informal, using thick industrial wood, with chairs that are minimalist and modern but still comfortable enough, with a good amount of light that shines through the windows. The service was friendly and helpful. There are a multitude of fresh salads ready for purvey, a few pots of various stews bubbling on the stove and some sandwiches they have for offer on the board. I had a small salad and a bowl of Moroccan chicken stew for lunch, and we split some chocolate cookies for dessert. The salad, being a kale salad, was one that I didn't anticipate to taste that great, but I was surprised with how tender and soft the kale was, and how much taste it had - indeed, I've tried to make kale salad with things even from the farmer's market to mixed success, because of how stringy and tough it can taste, even in the leaf. The dressing was a bit creamy, a bit oily and sweet, but nothing overly strong. That being said, it was a little bit of an impediment to the taste of vegetables on the tongue, so I would say it was a bit too much. The focaccia with the stew was a bit harder and not warm, which I suppose is to be expected at a cafeteria, but it was disappointing. That disappeared, however, when dipped into the stew, which had a lovely rich, tomato and spice flavor, that was further accented with the winter vegetables like squash added to the dish, and the chicken was not stringy though it was very much cooked. I liked the stew a lot, especially if I ignored the concept of focaccia in favor of something like dry bread or soup crackers for the stew. The cookies were chocolaty, thick and a bit fibrous since they had coconut flesh. Very tasty but I don't favor overly thick dessert items so they didn't rank high in my book. However, they were nicely executed with a good consistency and some stickiness to the finger. I liked this place very much! I think I'll be coming here more often, particularly since salad and stew is about $13, and the serving size is pretty adequate for a standard lunch. Nothing huge and hearty, but nothing skimpy either. read more
