there were six of us, and we settled into the comfy leather seating in front of a fireplace. it was a lovely, inviting setting, with the warmth of the fire and the plush seating creating the perfect spot to relax. we arrived around 6:00 pm hoping to enjoy a drink and catch up on everyone's news before dinner.
the lobby lounge has a reputation for its cocktails, live entertainment, and lively social atmosphere. unfortunately, the live music was so loud that evening that we could barely hear one another speak. we found ourselves leaning in, repeating things, and trying our best to follow the conversation. while live music certainly adds to the ambience, it was a little too loud for a group of six friends who wanted to have a proper catch up. it felt more suited to enjoying the music and drinks than having a relaxed conversation.
on the bright side, we were served complimentary mixed nuts to nibble on while enjoying our drinks. it was a thoughtful little touch and much appreciated as we relaxed before heading off to dinner.
one detail i particularly enjoyed was the collection of fred herzog photographs displayed up a flight of stairs. herzog was a renowned photographer who documented everyday life in vancouver, capturing the city's streets, neighbourhoods, shops, and people during earlier decades. his work offers a fascinating glimpse into what vancouver looked like in the past. i loved that these historical photographs were displayed within such a sleek, contemporary hotel. they add a sense of local history and character to the space, and are well worth a look if you happen to be visiting.
fairmont pacific rim is known for its luxurious accommodations, impressive art collection, stylish dining spaces, and prime downtown waterfront location. there's an unmistakable sense of occasion here, whether you're staying at the hotel or simply dropping in for cocktails. the combination of elegant surroundings, comfortable seating, and live entertainment makes it an attractive spot for an evening out.
overall, we enjoyed the comfortable setting, the fireplace, the complimentary nibbles, and the chance to spend time with our out of town friends. the only real drawback was the volume of the live music, which made conversation surprisingly difficult. for a livelier evening with cocktails and entertainment, it's a great setting, but if catching up with friends is the main purpose of your visit, you might want to ask about quieter seating or choose a time when the music is less prominent.
a beautiful hotel with plenty of atmosphere and some interesting vancouver history on display, just be prepared to speak up if you're visiting during live music.
