The chocolate chip oatmeal cookies tasted healthy, but really good at the same time. I can tell it Nu Nu didn't load it with sugar. It was extra enjoyable since she handed me one that was just taken out from the oven and it was still hot. I also ordered the chick pea salad, which was delicious. It had chick peas, broccolli, red/green peppers, parsley and was in some sort of olive oil/curry sauce. $6.50 (including tax) for the salad and cookie, -this will be a repeat for me if I'm in the area again. read more

Located close to the office; my coworkers love this place and Nunu herself. I've actually known about this place for years but never had a reason to be in the area until now. Prior to today, I've had a fruit cup, and half a shrimp wrap my coworker gave me to try. The fruit cup was a bit over $4 from memory, but I remember being mildly shocked at the price considering the rather small size of it. The shrimp wrap was tasty enough, it had the sort of peanut sauce salad rolls are usually dipped into and a bit of pickled carrot etc. However, I found it skimpy on the shrimp - only a few paper-thin slices among the lettuce. In any case, I had business at Chapters/Indigo across the road so I ducked in to buy lunch before braving the holiday queues. I had the shrimp wrap in mind (felt like having a lighter, less carby lunch today), but was dissuaded after finding that it was something like $10.25. For essentially a wrap full of lettuce?? I settled for a black forest ham panini with brie. I didn't get to open the sandwich until I got back to my desk and I have to say I was rather dismayed. The sandwich was on the thinner side, not very generous with the meat. The bread was some baguette-y thing and not actual panini bread - despite her even saying it was "organic panini bread". The supposed "black forest ham" didn't seem to have the characteristic black outer rind on it, and might have been just typical lunch meat ham. A few perfunctory leaves of what was possibly spinach, and a chunk of brie somewhere in there. I ate the first half and didn't think much of it overall. When I got to the rest of it, I found not one, but TWO giant black hairs in the sandwich. Needless to say I lost my appetite. Two counts of false advertising and two strands of hair was enough to ascertain that I would not be a return customer. Even then, there was very little value in their overpriced, undersized sandwiches that boasted nothing but unremarkable flavors. read more

Nunu's is a small little sandwich shop in a blink and you'd miss it location at the 99 B Line stop on Granville and Broadway. I catch the 99 B Line to UBC 5 days a week, ao I've stood outside it hundreds of times. I finally got to try it a few weeks ago, and while the sandwiches aren't the best I've ever had, they're quite delicious. Nunu's has a nice selection of sandwiches, salads, and cookies. From avocado shrimp to a traditional clubhouse sandiwich, you can find it here. They also have some per-made wraps and sandwiches if you're in a rush. The lines moves fairly quick even at lunchtime, which is a perk if you are in this area. The sandwiches cost around $7.50 each, and can be customized with a wide variety of veggies, condiments, cheese, and even a third piece of bread. The only problem is that it is hard to hear the worker asking you about these customizations if it is busy in the restaurant or if you don't pay attention (aka myself). Nunu's focuses on healthy, fresh ingredients, which is a huge perk. Every sandwich I have had from here has been super fresh. The cookies are packed full of nutritious ingredients, which was honestly not what I was expecting. Don't buy a cookie expecting it to be sweet, but it is definitely a snack you can't feel guilty about eating afterwards. I know for sure I'll be back, especially if I forget to pack a lunch. Nunu San is super sweet! I have used Nunu's for lunch catering, and she is very attentive, listens to what we need/want, and comes through with great sandwiches (and veggie platters) at a reasonable price. She must have call display because whenever I call I am greeted with a super enthusiastic "HI Aleeexis!" The enthusiasm makes my day and always forces a smile no matter how my day has been up to that point. Nunu San arranges excellent platters, asks for feedback regularly and genuinely wants to do her best to accommodate you. She's even sent a couple cookies back with the PA who picked up the platters, and they are SO GOOD. Maybe I'm getting old in the winter of my 20's, but cookies that just taste like a sugar disk of vaguely varying texture really bore me, and the cookies she makes are just sweet enough and full of flavour. The mornings I don't feel like a biscuit sausage breakfast sandwich, coffee and heart attack from Tim Hortons (which is most mornings) I pick up a breakfast sanny from Nu Nu's. The food is pretty standard - quality and price - for the area ($10). The kind of stuff you'd make at home, because that's pretty much what's going on. The vegetable soup is homemade and a little greasy. The paninis are pretty good especially when avocados are involved. Centrally located, Nu Nu plugs away at her sandwich/soup station serving loyal South Granville staff (like myself) and bus riders every day. Sawing my sanny in half with a giant electric knife, Nu Nu gleefully tells me that leaving her door open so the bacon scent wafts out at passerbys is her secret to success. I tell her its worked wonders on me. So like so many places in the neighbourhood, the food is so-so but the service is sweet. read more

Love this place! Lot's of options, great to grab and go and everything is fresh and extremely healthy. Sandwiches are great, definately try the egg-salad, I like it to go with a nice green salad. They have lots of paninis and sandwhich choices so pretty much everything from the meat lover to the vegan. Bread is airy and toppings are plentiful, you do get your full $7s worth. Very small sandwich shop with very little seating, therefore, this is more of a take away situation. The 99 B-line stops in front of it. I sometimes get a sandwich to go from here before heading to class on the Canada Line. Better quality sandwiches here compared to on campus. I came in today and paid $23 for two sandwiches and a small cookie, which I thought was a rip off. It wasn't an altogether terrible experience but I won't be back. Pros: - Very friendly and helpful service - Good quality ingredients - Generous with the bacon Cons: - Price - The menu was confusing- it wasn't clear what predesigned sandwiches etc. were available to be ordered and the lady serving me didn't follow the order on the wall of what you were supposed to order so I got a bit lost along the way - So much mayo oh my god. My sandwich was dripping. - Not all of the ingredients listed were available - These are just standard, made by your momma sized sandwiches. You're not getting anything you couldn't easily make for yourself at home, it's just a bit more convenient. There isn't really anything special about "Nu Nu's". They make sandwiches on regular loaves of bread with regular ingredients, nothing you couldn't do for yourself. At $7-8 it double the price of a regular foot long at "Subway", which is only a few shops down. Then why do I eat here every time I need lunch? It is healthy. It is so hard to find wholesome food options under $10. "Nu Nu's" makes everything fresh daily from scratch. They do this out of their kitchen right in plain view of the serving counter. I am partial to their "Veggie Delight" sandwich for $7.25. I am not going to lie this is the only sandwich I ever order, and I have ordered over 30 of them in the last year. You get your choice of wholesome breads like rye, whole wheat, multigrain, flax, etc. I usually get marble that is pictured above. It is a lovely pattern. How your food looks is just as important as how it tastes when it come to truly enjoying your meal. I get the works on my vegetarian sandwich: mayo, mustard, lettuce, shredded carrots, avacado slices, alfalfa sprouts, cheddar cheese, tomatoes, and cucumbers. It is simple, it tastes good, and you feel good knowing it is good for you. They offer a board of options to fill in between any slices of bread, you can customize your own or go for classics like peanut butter and bananas, ham and cheese, or an egg salad sandwich. These are the sandwiches that you do not have time to make for yourself. The kind of sandwiches your mom use to make for you in your brown bag lunch that you miss so much. The best part of "Nu Nu's" is the staff. Nu Nu runs it with another older woman. With both ladies you can tell they love what they do, they start early and end late. When you love your job you can't help but show it. They really make you feel welcome with conversation. They remember your orders and when the last time you came by. And sometimes they even treat you to a little extra to make your day. This is the type of service and atmosphere you cannot get from a large chain. And this is why we visit mom and pop shops. It is great people that make these kinds of places, not the decor or the food. The people are so warm and friendly that you want to go back to support them. Who doesn't want to go somewhere where everyone knows their name. Would I go back? - Yes. It's a tasty and healthy option along a street full of fast food and MSG rich Chinese restaurants. Would I recommend it? - No. This is not the kind of place you would go out to eat wih a friend. I ordered the split pea soup which unfortunately was terrible. It was burnt, and had chunks of burnt pieces from the bottom of the pot mixed it. I threw half it out.
