Going to be honest, I haven't had Peruvian food like this since I went to Peru. The building looks beautiful from the outside so that set the tone before we walked in. They sat us and gave us the menu. (I am a fan of pictures, and they had many). I chose to try something I've never had before (very unlike me) but it worked out beautifully. I once again ate too fast to take any pictures but I can say the food was filling and satisfying the whole time. read more

When I think of peruvian food, the first thing that comes to mind is lomo saltado. I've had this dish from a Peruvian and non- Peruvian restaurant and I hate to admit it but from my experience the non-Peruvian restaurant is much better because of the cut of meat used for the dish and overall taste. For instance, traditional places tend to use a lower cut of meat that tends to be dry. At Lima Criolla this was no exception as the beef was dry and dish just lacked the taste that I craved from the non-Peruvian restaurant. Perhaps my perception of this dish has been spoiled from the non-Peruvian restaurant but nevertheless the standard for quality and taste should never be compromised. To be fair I enjoy my dish of stewed chicken in a tomatoes based sauce with potatoes. The empanadas on the other hand was also a miss. While it came out as though it was freshly baked, the beef filling was unpleasant and had a very mushy texture, and I tasted more dough than filling. When I made reservations for this place i was excited to try something new in hopes of discovering a different cuisine from our normal rotation but as successful as expected. read more

I was really looking forward to this place...the ceviche was really good, but otherwise our other dishes were simply ordinary...good eating, but nothing to rave home about. It's still worth a visit...service could be a tad faster, and I had to order the same drink twice...but just having this king of food available is nice. We visited for the first time this evening. We shared the Arroz con Pollo, which was really enough food for the two of us older folks. It was the best Arroz con Pollo I have been served in a restaurant, hands down. The seasoning was incredible. We also shared a very generously-sized pork tamale, which is prepared in banana leaf. Did you know there's a Peruvian cuisine called "Chifa" that has Chinese influence? Chifa took off after an influx of Chinese immigrants arrived in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, bringing their cuisine with them! Chinese food became so popular in Peru that it began to influence traditional Peruvian dishes. The fusion emerged as a whole new authentic Peruvian cuisine known as Chifa which includes dishes like soups, stir fries, fried rice, noodles, and tangy sauces. What you I got here was the Tallarin Saltado Limeño which are Noodles in a Lima-style sautée with beef, onions, and tomatoes. These were pretty unique in that you can enjoy both the Asian and Latin American cultures in one dish! This was really filling too, I took half of it to-go! All in all, I had a good time here and would give them a 4/5! I suggest y'all come try them out! read more

I had a late lunch here yesterday. I do not speak Spanish therefore, I was happy the menu had pictures and a description of the meal in English. I ordered seafood fried rice. I can honestly say it was excellent with a lot of seafood. It had shrimp and scallops as well as muscles. The meal portion was large so I was able to take home half and eat it for another meal. The food was delicious so if you like this type of fried rice and seafood I would recommend it. The menu is quite extensive though so you can easily choose another entre. As far as the aesthetics, the place is more a cafeteria style set up. No frills but awesome food. The service is good and very polite. The wait time is about 20 minutes after ordering to get your food but it is worth the wait. There is a lot of parking and they do have take-out and curbside pickup available. Think home cook Peruvian food and portion. Tried fives dishes to get a taste and everything was good. We had the beef heart and it was marinated well and the sides compliments the plate. Definitely worth trying. The seafood fried plate was tasty and the fried fish was moist, cooked well, and came with a fresh corn, tomato and onion salad with good acidity and sweetness to compliment the fish. The fish doesn't taste frozen, so that's a plus! The beef tripe was stewed well with a light yellow pepper sauce peas, carrots, and potatoes. It's a real home cooked dish. Simple and very balanced. The seafood paella was good. The seafood is defiantly fresh and tender with a light amount of spice. Worth a try if you want some rice and mixture of seafood during the meal. Last and the reason we came is for the ceviche. The seafood is good but not raw enough. It's been cooked by the juice, I was hoping it was a little more raw. The juice in the ceviche is very tasty and it comes with the roasted unpopped corns and a generous cut of yam! Overall, it's interesting but the juice on the dish is very tasty! Twice now to Lima Criolla, once for lunch and more recently for dinner. It's an enjoyable place that overcomes its pedestrian ambience with really good, wholesome food. It's in a renovated retail space alongside I35, and it involves a touch of vehicular gymnastics to get there. There is a smallish outside dining area, which is pleasant if you can ignore the background rumble of the highway. The interior is fairly (note to self to change this to 'very') unimaginative. We chose outside as the evening was cool but not cold. With that, the first demonstration of customer service. Our (tiny) waitress muscled a (large and bulky) patio propane heater into place to warm the table. Then she took our drink order. Her attentiveness throughout the evening followed the theme established in that initial minute. We never wanted for refills, and she frequently inquired about how everything was going down. The important part: Eats. The four of us shared, off the starters menu, the Yuca a la Huancaina, lightly fried wedges of yucca plant with a cheese sauce. Interesting texture, rather potato- like flavor but mild, and the sauce was critical to address the dryness, but it was tasty. We also had the Papa Rellena, deep fried mashed potato ball with an interior of seasoned ground beef. Splendid. Unique. Fought-over. We didn't do ceviche for the evening meal, but what I had ordered on a prior lunch trip was near ceviche perfection. Ceviche is definitely an acquired taste, and this made me glad I had acquired it. Entrees included Lomo Salgado, steak sautéed with good stuff. It was surprisingly tender with a nice blend of flavors from onions and tomatoes stewed with the beef. Partner had the Carapulcra, which is not to be missed. Tender braised pork in an intriguing thick sauce with potatoes., peppers and peanuts. What a pleasant combination. Good up front with a delicious back palate finish. Not spicy if you're expecting something like Northern Mexican, but Peruvian cuisine has its own terroir and tradition. It's worth the Google Maps gyrations and putting up with the traffic noise for a filling evening of really good and different food. read more

They came to our office complex via Fooda. Never had Peruvian cuisine, and all dishes looked and sounded tasty. Lucky for me they offered a combination plate. :). Tilapia ceviche with corn-super fresh, just enough tang, could've eaten that alone all day long. The shredded chicken with yellow pepper Sauce, was fantastic. Not spicy not blah, just right., including a perfectly cooked potato. The shredded pulled work melted in your mouth, the sweet potatoes was a bit mushy, but I'm biased as they are not my favorite. The Tricolore quinoa salad was refreshing. The yuccas were a bit tough, I'm not sure what they are supposed to taste like, but I ate them all, delicious sauce. Same with the plantains. The combo plate had so much food for $11.90, you can't go wrong. All in all I'll be back next time they come, if not sooner at their brick and mortar location. read more

A wonderful change of pace for lunch. Quick, tasty, and has to be healthier than a burger. Lunch special comes with choice of salad or one of three soups and an entree. I went with the Sopa a la Minuta - Ground beef soup with Angel Hair noodles, and Carapulcra - Braised pork in a sauce thickened with Andean dried potatoes, Panca peppers and peanuts. The soup was delicious and great for this cold day. Very similar to Mexican fideo but with more complex spices and flavors. The Carapulcra had very tender pork in a lovely flavored stew like sauce. The peanuts are soft like potatoes, not crunchy. It came with white rice and a nice slice of yucca. This is my fourth visit, three times for lunch and once for dinner. Every visit had been great. If you're bored of the same old choices for lunch, give this place a try. read more

The food is SO DELICIOUS! I recently visited Peru and wanted to share the wonderful food with my friends in Austin. We found this place, which had a variety of the dishes from Peru and Pisco Sours! The service was also very kind. We ordered a variety of dishes and shared to get more flavors. We ordered the Ceviche Mixto, Jalea, beef hearts, empanadas, arroz de mariscos. All of these foods have an abundance of foods and wonderful flavors. The Jalea was a HUGE dish of fried seafood and yuca, which was good to share. The Ceviche Mixto had such fresh fish! The empanadas were so warm, I recommend the spinach one as it was soft and tasty. Anyone who has never had Peruvian food should try this place with a classic Pisco Sour, I would describe it as a fresh and light margarita. read more

My wife and I have been wanting to try this place out for several months. We finally went and we were happy we did! We appreciate different and delicious ethnic foods from different cultures from all over the world and this was no exception. The ambience is casual and their hospitality genuine. Our meal was just okay... I had the Carapulcra for the first time and it was good, but not at all memorable. My husband had the Lomo Saltado and it was kind of subpar--it was poorly sautéed beef on soggy fries. I admit we are a bit snooty with our Peruvian food. Our first time having Peruvian food was in LA and it made such a huge and memorable impression on us that we have not been able to find anything remotely close to the flavor and authenticity of it.
