I love Peruvian food. It's probably my favorite type of cuisine. There isn't a whole lot in the world that can't be made better by the addition of fried plantains. The service is always good when I go, and the mixed drinks are strong. When the weather is nice, get a seat on the patio. If you're looking for exciting cuisine, this is not the place. If you want good, solid Peruvian comfort food done well, this will fit the bill. read more

That said, not quite five stars yet for me, but will for sure be back and try more things from the menu. Ceviche: loved this! Good portion size, very fresh fish. Will get again. Sweet plantains: nothing to complain about here: again a good portion size. Nice ripe plantains, slight crisp on outside, soft in the middle. Will get again. Arroz con mariscos: The seafood is very good - it was all tender, perfectly cooked and a good amount of it. But I was less enthused about the rice which was a little lacking in flavor and much too wet. This I probably wouldn't get again. Alfajore: very very good. I've been meaning to try Lima Criolla for a while now, and I finally had the chance to eat lunch here recently. I came in on a weekday at noon and about a third of the restaurant was filled. My server was fast and attentive throughout my time here. I had the fried plantains and the Lomo Saltado. The plantains were nice and sweet, and I enjoyed the crispy exterior on the pieces I had! I do wish the plantains were cut a little smaller though. The Lomo Saltado was great! The beef and onions were cooked and seasoned perfectly. I loved eating the garlic rice with the leftover liquid that came from cooking the beef. The reason I put 4 stars instead of 5 was because the French fries that came with the Lomo Saltado were not great. They weren't very crispy to begin with, and they quickly became soggy after my dish was served to me. This was probably the most disappointing part of my lunch at Lima Criolla, but otherwise, the overall experience was good and I would recommend that you try eating here! read more

Lovely little place. Not much in the way of ambiance, but it's clean, and neat. Very friendly staff, fast service, and the food is very good. The portions are huge, and it's priced really well. I took home on of the banana leaf wrapped vegetarian tamales to a friend and she said it was the best vegetarian tamale she had ever had. Then she added, it was one of the best tamales I've ever had. After reading the reviews about the restaurant, my family and I decided to go there for lunch. On the menu (photos), the food looked awesome. However, what a disappointment! We ordered four different dishes, which were quite pricey, and none of them were good. The beef on the plates was tough and chewy. I REALLY wanted to LOVE this place... the food was good. However, the big turn off is the awful service. No one asked to refill our drinks, they brought us the wrong order (which we didn't send back because the kitchen is slow), never checked on us, not even enough napkins. I truly feel bad for the kitchen who appears to be swamped. The actual servers/wait staff personnel areTERRIBLE!!! The food takes forever and the waitstaff is standing around gossiping (I imagine) or standing idle. The GM/owner/management really need to reevaluate this situation. You can easily tell other customers were frustrated as well. Please, do better- we need good Peruvian places in Texas.... read more

If you are looking for some authentic Peruvian food, look no further -- Lima Criolla is THE Peruvian Cuisine to visit. Prior to COVID-19, we visited Peru for about 2 weeks and have missed their food ever since. Lima Criolla fixed that problem because their food and drinks are delicious and authentic. We ordered the Ceviche Limeño, Arroz Chaufa de Mariscos, Pisco Sour, and Chicha Morada. Let's start off with the drinks. Both the Pisco Sour and Chicha Morada tasted the same as they did back in Peru -- in particular, the Pisco Sour tasted like the one we had in Huacachina and the Chicha Morada tasted exactly the same like the one we had in Ollantaytambo. If you had to pick between the two, go with the Chicha Morada. We had Chicha Morada from almost every restaurant we went to, but nothing could be compared to the one in Ollantaytambo. The Ceviche Limeño and Arroz Chaufa de Mariscos were both very delicious. The Ceviche Limeño provides a refreshing taste, and it isn't at all heavy. My only complaint is that I wished they provided more vegetables on the plate. The Arroz Chaufa de Mariscos was hot and filling. It may have just been my plate, but the bigger shrimp was placed on top while the remaining shrimps within the rice were all small shrimps -- it's just something I noticed. The customer service was superb. The person who served us was extremely nice and quite humorous, I'd say. She was very sweet and kind. It's an A+ from me. When I visit Austin again, I would definitely return to Lima Criolla. I haven't had an authentic Peruvian dish anywhere else but here. Everything, from the drinks, to the food, to the customer service, was absolutely perfect. Lima Criolla has something for everyone. Want something refreshing? Get the Ceviche Limeño. Want some seafood with rice? Get the Arroz Chaufa de Mariscos. Underage but looking for a refreshing drink? Get the Chicha Morada. There's something for everyone here. read more

We arrived right before the rush. Since it was a nice night we sat outside. Clean and spacious. First appetizer - 6.5/10 - taste was pretty good, probably would have been a lot better if it was hot. We didn't expect it to be cold. It gave potato chicken salad flavors. The white sauce on the plate was really tasty. Chicken empanada - a bit disappointed since the empanada was mostly air (see picture). We couldn't really taste chicken flavor however the meat was very seasoned. Arros con pollo - 4.5/10 - rice was decent. The chicken had a lot of skin. The flavor of the chicken was very bland. Peruvian fried rice - 7/10 - played it safe and got fried rice. Didn't get any Peruvian flavor vibes just fried rice. Was a tad greasy. We didn't order any alcoholic drinks, just waters. I wonder if this was the reason the waiters didn't check on us much to see if we needed anything during our meal. There were other tables outside drinking alcoholic beverages that the waiters seems to visit often during their meal. Nonetheless this will be a "one and done" for me. read more

They had so many different options in the menu and I look forward to coming back and trying the other options they had. We got a steak empanada & it was delightful! Very light and airy. The dough was a little in the sweeter side but the inside steak evened it out with the savory salty side. Ceviche mixto was worth the $$! Such great flavors and they do not skimp out on the portion!!! Also ordered the Aji de gallina- the flavors were very good! Reminded me of an Indian curry with similar spices. The rice was also so yummy! The chicken was a little in the drier side - looked Kike shredded chicken breast. Potato's we're cooked perfectly. I was recently on tik tok and saw someone post a video from Lima Criolla and it looked delicious so I thought- let's give it another try and I'm glad I did! We came on a Sunday afternoon for lunch, and the place was busy! We sat outside which was really enjoyable. Our waitress was very friendly and between her and the man outside the service was much better (although she did disappear towards the end and I had to hunt or check down). But she tecommended the pisco sour drinks we had and they were delicious! We got the pesto pasta with steak and the seafood fried rice dishes. The cost of each was about $15- but the portions were really generous although I wish you got a little bit more steak. The fried rice was AMAZING. I'm dying for it as I type this. Presentation was amazing and taste even better. I was watching other dishes go out and everything looked so good! I'm hoping my first experience there was the exception of the rule- so I'll definitely be back to try more dishes! read more

This was my first time having Peruvian food and the bar has been set incredibly high. The two entrees I tried were the Arroz con Pollo and the Lomo Saltado Limeño and all I can say is WOW. The Arroz con pollo was delicious. The rice was cooked perfectly and the chicken was juicy. The onion and cilantro on the side added a great crunch and extra hit of citrus. The real star here, though, was the Lomo Saltado. I was mind blown by how flavorful and tender the beef was. If you decide to come here, ordering this dish is a must. read more

When I think of peruvian food, the first thing that comes to mind is lomo saltado. I've had this dish from a Peruvian and non- Peruvian restaurant and I hate to admit it but from my experience the non-Peruvian restaurant is much better because of the cut of meat used for the dish and overall taste. For instance, traditional places tend to use a lower cut of meat that tends to be dry. At Lima Criolla this was no exception as the beef was dry and dish just lacked the taste that I craved from the non-Peruvian restaurant. Perhaps my perception of this dish has been spoiled from the non-Peruvian restaurant but nevertheless the standard for quality and taste should never be compromised. To be fair I enjoy my dish of stewed chicken in a tomatoes based sauce with potatoes. The empanadas on the other hand was also a miss. While it came out as though it was freshly baked, the beef filling was unpleasant and had a very mushy texture, and I tasted more dough than filling. When I made reservations for this place i was excited to try something new in hopes of discovering a different cuisine from our normal rotation but as successful as expected. read more

Going to be honest, I haven't had Peruvian food like this since I went to Peru. The building looks beautiful from the outside so that set the tone before we walked in. They sat us and gave us the menu. (I am a fan of pictures, and they had many). I chose to try something I've never had before (very unlike me) but it worked out beautifully. I once again ate too fast to take any pictures but I can say the food was filling and satisfying the whole time. read more
