It was my turn to choose a place for our little birthday group to gather, and I've been curious about a couple places at "The Linc" (Lincoln Village to you OGers). So I thought heck, may as well plug in at the nearby car charger and see what Peruvian Cuisine is all about. Lima Criolla hits all the high notes that I've seen on various travel shows documenting trips to Machu Picchu: meats and seafood paired generally with starches like rice, corn, potato, or even noodles. We weren't bold enough to venture into the spicier part of the menu, and not adventurous enough to choose some of the more exotic proteins, such as tripe or beef heart. Our starter Causa Limeña was potato salad-esque, filled with chicken. Wife kept going back for more. When I pondered the Arroz Chaufa de Mariscos (seafood fried rice) entree, I had my usual concerns that they would skimp on the seafood. Not the case here! Every bite seemed to have some sort of bounty from the sea, and the rice was tasty and achieved the balance between soft and moist but not mushy. Everyone seemed happy with their choices, leaving us all curious about what dish we'll try next time (when our next round of keto is over). Menu clearly marked for my wife's gluten free choices, though we were surprised the tamales and none of the desserts, not even the rice pudding, were gluten free. Great buzz on a Saturday mid-afternoon. The owner came over to check in with us, as if concerned for a guest in her own home. I'd just say for those complaining about the speed of service, just bring up your speed needs with the server. Most people there were happy to not be rushed out like they would have been at the stressful wing joint around the corner, happily chatting with their families/friends while enjoying their Modelos or Pisco Sours. 4 1/4 stars. read more

Have been here several times now, last time with my brother who's a professional chef. Everything is just top notch perfect. Our go to dishes are the extra limey ceviche, yucca fries, and chicken caldo. They also have a great app menu -- I'm blanking on the name but the pork sandwich is one of the best things and definitely a great lunch size entrée. Service is always great and friendly. They have a full bar with a good selection of Peruvian style cocktails and traditional beverages. Honestly can't think of any bad thing about this place. 10/10 read more

Delicious food. Friendly service. Very nice ambiance. 1000% recommended! Come with an empty stomach...

Very favorite Peruvian food! Great staff! Great service! Haven't been in awhile; sodium-restricted diet.

The desserts are where it's at with this Peruvian restaurant. They have a wide selection of REALLY GOOD desserts. Next time I go that's what I'm going for. I really liked the chicken noodle soup. I will definitely get that. The ceviche was a little salty and just a bit off. Their beef was good. read more

This place is phenomenal! Just a unique taste overall. Super pleased with found this place. Mixed ceviche was flavorful and plentiful. Spicier than we anticipated, so be prepared. We had great hopes and the anticuchos were a good beginning. We also shared a chicken tamal which - strangely had too much chicken, too little corn dough : and we love the corn-stuffs of the tamal...but maybe that's their style? Our recommendation here is to take back some chicken. The tamal was fair tasting. But then we had the seco de res and the noodles with green sauce with steak and both were flavorless, sadly. Totally bland. The seco meat greasy- wait the whole plate was greasy- the noodles over cooked and bleh. So we didn't even take the left over home!! And we had a ton a ton of leftovers that would've normally made for a super happy dinner!! Nope. That flavorless. We were just very disappointed. We still Tried again and asked for the picarones. Bad idea. Well... they came Burnt. I mean: not golden: dark brown, burnt smell..: And the waiter said something like "well that's how we make them here? " Wow. When we returned them, they didn't offer to make them again : he came back and stood there. It felt like a rude way of kicking us out- where are the picarones? So... I guess just the check. All we can leave now is a bad review. So now: I think back and on the front door there WAS a signs saying : Need Cook. Omg. That should've been our sign. Yup they need a cook urgently as of February 2020.Hope they get better cause I love peruvian food and the place has a ton of potential. (And I'm Peruvian, so I'll try it again once they hire a new cook). read more

I've been here a couple times and have always had a good experience! It's hidden away in a shopping plaza that's mostly empty, so it can be a little hard to find at first. My favorite thing to order is the chaufa de mariscos (seafood fried rice) and the ceviche mixto. They give generous portions of food and it's always super tasty. Service is quick, but we had to ask a couple times for water refills. The interior is very basic and casual, nothing fancy. read more

If you're looking for the best ceviche in town, this is the place to go! It's seriously a hidden gem. I ordered the Cerviche Mixto and Arroz Con Mariscos, which is a Peruvian version of Paella. Let me tell you. They DO NOT skimp on the fish in the ceviche and it is high quality! My boyfriend hates eating seafood, but he liked the ceviche. It was cut nicely, well marinated and the texture was on point. I lost my mind when I tried the Arroz Con Mariscos. The flavor profile was something new to my pallet. The rice is tomato and seafood based. That's all I can say... you need to try it for yourself! read more

I ordered lunch menu: choice of pork/chicken plate and soup/salad. Chicken soup with rice Aguadito was pretty good, bit oily. Chicken dish called aji-de-gallina reminded me yellow carry without chili. Taste good but I would say it still bland somehow. It needs some spice to be added. And presentation could be improved. Chicha morada - sweet beverage made from purple corn. I liked it! Service was prompt and friendly. Spacious parking lot. Good for lunch and dinner. read more

Coming back from a long trip in Peru, I was excited to try out this Peruvian restaurant back home. Ordered some of my favorite dishes: the Lomo Saltado, seafood Jalea, and a pisco sour tradicional. As much as I wanted to like Lomo Saltado, the meat was a bit disappointing and small in portion compared to the price. Also tried the Jalea - where I did love the corn and lime marinated onion salad, which reminded me of the ceviche flavors from Lima. Lastly, the pisco sour was just okay. Will probably give this restaurant one more try for the ceviche mixto, but I'm a bit hesitant. read more

On a Saturday afternoon, this place is humming. Between 12:45 and 1:30, the restaurant went from half full to barely an open seat in the house. Lima Criolla's popularity is well deserved. This is a fine Peruvian restaurant Which is just as well since Austin is Peruvian-underserved. * * * It was a work afternoon, so there was no chance to try out the bar. But they offer a good run of pisco drinks Foodwise, I went for the Arroz con Mariscos - Peru's answer to Chinese Fried Rice with Shellfish. I ordered the Arroz on a whim - But then noticed that the waitresses were bringing plate after plate after plate of Arroz con Mariscos out to the customers. This is seemingly their number one dish and a huge crowd favorite. The crowd is completely correct here. Lima Criolla's Arroz con Mariscos is a total winner. The rice is crammed to the gills with shellfish - and then they add a ton more shellfish just for good measure. No paella you have ever gotten in a Spanish or Portuguese restaurant can compare with the high ratio of seafood to rice in Lima Criolla's arroz. There are at least ten if not a dozen different kinds of shellfish on your plate. Each of the shellfish types is at a minimum, good, and in most cases, outstanding. The shrimp are particular standouts. Shellfish that is not in a shell (i.e. anything that is not a clam) is generally sauteed to the point of semi-char in lots of butter. Lots of butter is the magic pixie fairy dust that makes food amazing. Browned charred butter infused with seafood juices and essence is food for the gods. Never mind food for the gods. It is food for Yelp reviewers. Every forkful tasted different. Every forkful had a new kind of shellfish. Every forkful was golden with their brown shellfish infused butter. Happy times. As a plus, the rice is served with aji sauce. This is Japanese pink sushi mayo meets jalapenos. Plug meets socket. The lights go on. * * * I can't tell you what the rest of the menu is like. But I like pisco drinks. I like ceviche. And the desserts near the bar looked very intriguing. So I have some unfinished business at Lima Criolla. My only question is: Will I be able to get a table? read more

From a Peruvian: LOVE the fish in our Tiradito and the taste in the seafood rice (arroz con mariscos) and the shrimp soup (chupe de camarones) The reason why I don't give 5 stars is because there are some things that would be nice to improve. 1. I read that some people received the fried corn (canchita) as a courtesy but we didn't receive any. 2. The soup: chupe de camarones (shrimp soup) was tasty but needed to be less thick. 3. The spicy sauce (aji) tasted sour like if it was made with preservatives packaged paste. 4. And finally the rice needed to be more cooked in our seafood rice. Alfajores were crazy good! You must try them as a dessert with some coffee (I grabbed coffee in Starbucks though) read more

From a Peruvian: DELICIOUS. We don't have too much Peruvian food where I live now and this place hit home. We got the ceviche mixto. Pisco sours and Jalea! I went here with some friends to celebrate a birthday and I was honestly a little disappointed in the service and food. I had made a reservation for our party and when we got there they had no idea even though I had recieved a confirmation email. We waited to be seated for about 10 minutes, a bus boy put some tables together for us to sit down at. The tables were sticky and we then waited another 10 minutes for a sever to come. It looked like only 2 people were working besides the bus boy. Once the server came over he took our drink order and then we didn't see him again for a while. We eventually got menus and we're able to order but by the time food started coming out we had no silverware. We eventually asked someone behind the bar because our server was no where to be found. The food was good but it was either over or under seasoned. I couldn't eat my Aji de Gallina because it was so salty and my friends Lomo had no seasoning. The drinks we had were great but the food and service were greatly lacking. read more

Not that's great, and the food very expensive also, the amount of the food is very small abortion.

This is by far the worst Peruvian food I've had. I was visiting in town with my mother and were craving Latino food. Felt like I couldn't go wrong with this place because of the reviews but I was wrong. I had ordered a beef empanada and was given a spinach empanada but I didn't complain. I simply told the the waitress and they brought me the the right empanada but they didn't even apologize for the mix-up. I then ordered two shishkabobs (peruvian style) for $11 but was brought these over-burnt pieces of meat with 2 pieces of potato. They should not include potatoes on their meal description when it was only 2 pieces. Lastly, my mother ordered sopa de gallina and was sent over soup with fettuccini pasta. So odd and untasteful. Overall bad experience for my first Latino food experience in Austin. read more
