I may have come in on a bad day but I was pretty disappointed with the food here. The meat on the lomo saltado was DRY. The entire dish was just bland and it's a really bad sign to good up a popular Peruvian dish. The fried rice was just decent but kind of gritty. Really not sure what happened on that day but I do agree that the dishes were bland and the meat was unusually chewy. This place seems to have a lot of potential and I like the atmosphere and how clean it is, but that doesn't mean much if you don't have the right people in the kitchen. Might give this place another try but I'm in no hurry. read more

I was really looking forward to this place based on its reviews, and was really let down by my experience. We got seated outside quick and our waitress took orders promptly after, however it took 50 minutes for most of our food to arrive after we ordered (not after we arrived). My dish (the vegetarian dish, mostly a salad/some sides) came out ten minutes later. The hot dishes were extremely cold and it seemed like it had been sitting out for a while. After about 40 minutes, I asked our waitress if they had an update (since I thought our order may have been mixed up) and she said there were still orders ahead of us. It also took 45 minutes for water refills even after I requested them. I was also surprised to see how many vegetarian icons that they had next to their dishes. However, I quickly realized that most of them were centered around a meat dish (such as the sirloin steak) and were just small sides without it. As a vegetarian, I think it is much better for restaurants to be honest in their menu selection I understand that we are in extremely difficult times and I have a lot of patience in restaurants typically. However, I found it extremely surprising that we never had anyone come to our table and give us an update until I asked 45 minutes in. I wish that we had been given a heads up that the kitchen was running behind. . read more

I don't know what we were thinking ordering fried rice at a Peruvian restaurant. I will not hold it against them for it tasting like fast food Chinese fried rice. I saw a lot of noodle dishes from other tables. I will give them one more try update to come for next time. The portions are very big even from the lunch menu. Good value for your money. read more

I didn't get pictures because I wolfed it all down. I had the Ceviche Mixito which was the best ceviche I've had outside of Miami. I also had the vegetarian platter which was good, but not amazing. The Arroz con Mariscos was amazing, so full of tender and delicious seafood!! read more

I was craving peruvian food and found this restaurant on yelp. I tried their spinach and cheese empanada, picarones, arroz chaufa de mariscos and papa a la huancaina. I would have to say the empanada and papa a la huancaina were my favorite and reminded me of my time in Huancayo, Peru. The fried rice had some seafood I generally wouldn't eat (octopus and calamari) but the flavor overall was delicious. The picarones tasted a little off but it could have been a different way they are accustomed to preparing it. Overall I was really happy to have tried this place out since there was limited Peruvian food options in Austin. read more

The service was good and the waiter was attentive. The calamari was good, my husbands plate I forgot what it was called was pork in red sauce was ok as well. My lomo saltado looked and tasted without flavor. I've had Peruvian before and it definitely was way better than here. Sorry I will not be back here again to pay $16 for a plate with no flavor. If it was good I wouldn't mind paying but this place was a let down. read more

Lima Criolla is great if you want a lot of options. The food here is also pretty solid, but nothing mind blowing. If you want a safe Peruvian place, this is it! The food was pretty tasty, and I feel like you won't be able to find such a variety of options at other Peruvian places around Austin. I tried the carapulcra and the tallarines a la huancaina. Both were solid options. The carapulcra was probably better than the tallarines, but it was less of a stew and more of a saucy dish over rice. The menu will say stew though, so just beware. The tallarines were more disappointing, and the sauce was super heavy on the dairy, so also beware of that. Because of how much dairy there was, the flavor on this dish tended to fall flat, and I wasn't able to finish the entire dish. The beef on top added a nice change of flavor, but the beef itself also is not super special. I'd like to come back and try other dishes though. Everything on the menu sounds enticing, and the two dishes I've already tried have not discouraged me from wanting to come back. read more

This is hands down the closest thing you can get to Peru in Austin. The portions are huge! I mostly get the ceviche, soupa de camaron, anticuchos and muching off all of my friends' plates. Its so hard picking just one thing to eat there. The service is always good. They're not over bearing about how I am doing, but just the right kind of caring. read more

I've never had Peruvian food before and Lima Criolla was a GREAT first experience for me.The Arroz con Mariscos, which is the Peruvian version of Paella, was the star of the evening. The rice is tomato and seafood based, and dish was SO scrumptious. Every bite was a little flavor explosion in my mouth. The Ceviche Mixto was super fresh. Generous amount of fish and seafood with a great tangy flavor. The third dish we ordered which I can't remember the name of, was steak on top of a bed of cheesy mashed potato and a side of rice. SOO good. The mashed potato was so delicious. The steak was a tad bit over cooked but I like my steaks pretty rare! This place is now one of my fav in town. I seriously can't wait to go back and try everything on the menu. read more

Good food! I ordered the mixed seafood Ceviche to go and it was tasty! I wish they had given more crispy and Peruvian corn but that is just a personal preference. The plate was $15 and contained squid, tilapia, mussels, and shrimp. The portion size was big so it was well worth the $15. I wish I had tried other food but I will definitely be coming back to try their hot food. read more

Five stars for this place! Seriously good Peruvian food with great service/prices. Bonus points for having a cute little patio. I'm a fan!

My friends and I had dinner at Lima Criolla last night. We spent a long time trying to figure out what to get because everything looked fantastic. We love trying interesting food and this place had a lot to offer. Their desserts were varied and also reasonably priced. Not only that, but their staff were great (they were especially patient while we drooled over the menu). We're excited to come back to try something new! read more

The food was absolutely delicious; we got a few things from the menu and all of it was fresh, tasty, and great for family style eating. The sea food was especially delicious as were the freshly made and fried fritters. The service and ambiance were also fantastic. I highly recommend! read more

We knew this place was there for awhile, and went in for dinner on a whim. My first impressions were chaos. There's so many tables crammed into the space that it's difficult to walk through it. The bar and service counters are messily interspersed into the dining area. The server was helpful but not super attentive. The place's chaos continued with sporadic service response and unfilled drinks. The food itself was great and largely unique to this city. Check was $46 for two people; no dessert or alcohol. I don't think this place will be high on my return list. read more

Good, inexpensive time. Pleasant space, varied menu, fine cocktail. Gracious service.

Wow so good!!!! The soup for the weather was comforting, they need to put a heater in the place it was chilly

This is my 2nd time at Lima for lunch and I highly recommend it for the AMAZINGLY flavorful food and relaxed atmosphere. I highly recommend the Aji- chicken dish!! Some may shy away from Peruvian foods because it's unfamiliar but the flavors are comforting and the dishes very familiar: potato, corn, roasted pork, roasted chicken, peas, shrimp, lime... Service was nice, the food was not and the price was high Sorry but it is not worth it, the food took a long time to come out. We ordered the green pesto pasta w/ steak and that dish looked so sad. There were like 7 tiny pieces and disgusting and chewy steaks. Not tender, not flavorful, not worth it. For the price, you should avoid being so stingy and buy cheap steak to serve your customers. The ceviche was okay that's why I added the extra star. Not coming back read more

Incredible ----incredible ----INCREDIBLE!!!! Absolutely Wonderful flavors across several different dishes. The service it's top - notch for a two dollar sign restaurant... ----Though the flavors!!!!~~~~~THE FLAVORS!!!!! First time coming here. Hard to notice from the road. Inside looked nice. Definately a small non corperate spot. I ordered a spinach and cheese empanada the came after my aji chicken plate had arrive. I do very much recommend the aji chicken plate. The empanada is not the best I've had. Both were plated nice and very good portioning. The only arguement that i have is how are you going to send out an app out after the main course.....? Come on kitchen read more

First time ever having Peruvian and it tasted great! I will say, I am not too sure how it is much different than other foods but I can't complain. I live close by and wanted to try something new so we went over to Lima Criolla. It was late Friday night and the place was relatively empty. We were seated right away and promptly given waters and menus. I ordered the spicy seafood soup and my buddy ordered the steak and fries. Both of us left nice and stuffed. I am really hoping this shopping center becomes the next new thing. They are finally finishing up with all the construction and it looks like Lima will be the main attraction. I will be coming back again to try other dishes on the menu soon. read more

Not sure how the food was, walked in and the smell of sewer was so bad we only lasted until the server came by to take our drink orders. Told her we were sorry but we couldn't eat with the overwhelming smell in the restaurant. She was nice about it but said she couldn't smell anything which is odd because it was unbearable. read more

Wow! What a find!! The Cuban waiter (Rogelio) that attended us was absolutely amazing. He was super attentive and funny. He was very helpful in helping us decide what to eat. We got 4 different options. The Aji De Gallena had a curry taste to it. It was very filling and they weren't stingy with the chicken. The Bistec a lo Pobre was a larger portion, but a bit on the dry side. The egg that comes with it was overcooked so I didn't get the runniness of it with the steak. I added some lime and it made it better. We also had the Halea, which is fried shrimp, calamari and fish on a bed of fried yuca. It was amazing. Add some aji and you're solid. The last dish and I have to say, the star of the table was the Ceviche Limeño( something like that). It was a mix of calamari, tilapia, shrimp and clams. OMG! It was a party in your mouth! The lime flavor is strong but that's the best part. Hands down, this is the dish to get to try out. Next time I'm in town, I'm getting this. For dessert, we finished dinner off with Suspiro Limeño. It was a coconut creme but better. OMG. We spilt the dessert and were all fighting over it. GET THIS! It was topped off with a creme and cinnamon. I was a little hesitant to first come here because of a couple reviews that I read, but I definitely don't regret It! I started writing the review as soon as I left the restaurant. They have my business next time I'm in town! read more

The food from Lima Criolla was wonderful. We have it delivered in partnership with Fooda at my office. This was one of the first times I felt satisfied and full from a meal from one of the vendors. The flavor at Lima Criolla and the food quality were truly top-notch. The packaging and delivery standards are incredibly high. It was a yummy 10 of 10. I ordered the Adobo Limeno, and all I can say is wow. No photo because I dove in as soon as it arrived. You won't be disappointed. read more

We went to Lima Criolla a couple of days ago. Food was very good except the Seafood Chaufa that came with little seafood ingredients, it was pretty much just rice. The flavor were good, the service was excellent and they even had live music that night. We ordered several plates and had the opportunity to taste the Ceviches, chaufa, lomo saltado, and etc.... Don't let the size full you. It is small restaurant, not fancy but overall good food. read more

If you've never had Peruvian food, get off your booty and get some! Lima Criolla survived many years in the Highland Mall Food Court (yes, I know, weird - but the food court was around long after the mall was mostly closed). They now a a much larger and much nicer spot in the soon-to-be thriving Linc shopping center next to Highland Mall. With clear influences from Asian culture, native South American culture, and Spanish culture, Peruvian food is loaded with flavor, texture, and will leave you wanting more. Most people know ceviche. The Peruvians make the best in the world and have dozens upon dozens of varieties and preparations. If you are a seafood lover, you'll be well served to focus on their selection of traditional ceviche. If you're a meat lover, you'll want their lomo saltado. Beautifully seasoned and tender beef, cooked with onions and tomatoes, put on top of crisp french fries. If you're a rice lover, you'll be well served to order arroz chaufa (and you'll understand the Asian influence). Best described as Peruvian fried rice, this dish is smoky, a little salty, with unbelievable flavor. Their pisco sours are also good (although not nearly as good as a Chilean version). :) Check out their happy hour and also order to go! read more

I have not been in Lima Criolla for a while. What a great refresh of my memory. It was good to come back. They improved their plates! Everything tasted better then I remember and I was curious why, what changed. So I asked and they upgrade their products. So now we got ceviche made from corvina instead of tilapia which made a big difference. Lomo saltado made from sirloin instead or tenderloin, what a taste! Medium rare, soft, not chewy at all. I loved it! Seafood in Jalea was extremely soft and the breading was very light. We also took a vegetarian Causa. Yummy :) I will be definitely back. This guys are taking care of the quality of their food and are willing to improve. For many places it goes opposite way. Love it! read more

I'm very pleased that La Chapparita has survived the slow-motion implosion of Highland Mall and reincarnated itself down the street in this new location as Lima Criolla. Austin is not exactly overflowing with Peruvian cuisine, and even if there's aspects of the new location I'm not perfectly content with, I'm glad they're still around. To get it out of the way, let me just say that my main complaint about Lima Criolla is that it's more expensive than La Chapparita was. Their ceviche used to be $8; now it's $11. Don't get me wrong, the quality is as high as ever - a minor mountain of delicious fish in a wonderful lime bath, accompanied with a tasty wedge of sweet potato and some corn. It was my favorite dish at LC and it's still great, it's just that you pay more for it now. My meal of papas a la huancaina ($6), ceviche ($11), and chicha ($3) was a little on the spendy side for the quantity, even if the quality was still high. At least the menu is much larger - even the ceviche comes with more options now, with a larger version that has other ingredients like octopus in it for $15. They got rid of their tacos, which were decent but not worth writing home about, and added many more items that could tempt me away from the ceviche. I'm not sure what's in a $14 soup, but I will probably try it, and I'm extremely curious what their take on pasta is like. I don't blame Lima Criolla for changing, because a lot has changed for them. Whereas before they were a kiosk in the food court of a dying mall, now they're a full-fledged family restaurant. I went there on their first day for their soft opening and I was glad to see that they were full. I hope they improve slightly on the value front, but they're still absolutely worth a visit. read more
