Came in for a little brunch and a cocktail while in the area! The staff was friendly and the vibes are great. I'm not a plant based person but I have been here a few years ago and remembered a good experience. The cauliflower(chick'n) and waffles were so delicious! Great flavor all around! And the textures were perfect too. What a great dish

Come on now...a vinyl bar???? With fun drinks???? I'm there. On the outside, Life on Mars seems unassuming and you'd walk past it thinking it was like a shop. However, my boyfriend happened to see a bunch of vinyls inside and as soon as we opened the door we heard Dolly Parton streaming through the speakers. You can only come here if you're 21+ right at the door by the way! You have the choice to be seated at a regular table where you have to order their food, which is vegan based. They do a twist on dishes that are meat based, such as chicken being your classic buffalo wings but in this case make it cauliflower (yum!). We did come here for a few drinks and the vinyl bar though, so this review is mainly for the service and drinks. We got the Opener and Florida Beach. The opener tasted like juice with the green tea vodka mixture and elderflower...dangerous really. The Florida Beach was just alright. Not much of the drink as there was more ice cubes for looks? But it was kind of stronger than I anticipated with the description being pineapple shrub and lime. I guess blanco really hits you and I had no idea haha. The lady helping us in the beginning was friendly and accommodating. She even let us know where to sit and that they rotate albums that are chosen by customers on the speakers so that everyone gets a chance to share. We also heard that they do music themed nights per the owner's requests. Such a fun place! Definitely somewhere you'd want to stop by in while strolling around Capitol Hill. Moderately priced drinks and seems like everyone enjoyed their stay here.

Love this bar during the afternoon on the weekends. You can pick vinyl albums to play, they have a huge selection. I think it's a 70s-80s theme, loved it. We have tried to come on a Friday night but got turned away due to a large party coming in.

A very delicious Breakfast Burrito I ordered at Life On Mars!

I have had Life On Mars bookmarked into my list for I don't know how long. It felt like forever but finally, finally at long last I recently tried it. I am sure the name of the restaurant is a reference to the David Bowie song of the same name and there is evidence that there is a love for music here. Not only is this a restaurant but they are also a vinyl shop as well. They have a very fine selection of vinyl albums to purchase and that really makes this place cool! But not just that. The food is very good too. All of the food is vegan oriented and it's very good! I got a breakfast burrito that was great! Very flavorful and fresh. Steve's breakfast was very good as well but unfortunately I don't precisely remember the name of it. The time we were here was brunch time to early lunch but we got some cocktails as that is something that they are also known for. Very, very good drinks! Highly recommended! Life On Mars is definitely a place to try out if you are in the area as it's an excellent place to have a bite and chill!

Such a fun bar, lounge, plant based eatery. Fun decorations. Mixed musics from 90s rap to alternative. Lots of tables, bar, booths. Friendly quick service. Vegan food was great. Love the infamous buffalo cauliflower wings. Especially the spicy habanero. Another shout out for the pot pie! More like vegetable stew and a biscuit but so good. Hearty savory, hits the spot on a cold winter day. They also have happy hour mid day and brunch in the am. I'll be back for that!

Life On Mars is a hip place that I do dig, and the visits here have been pleasant overall, but there are some snags that just keep from where it should be for me. The ambience with the vinyls and the bar sitting in the middle is cool. My first visit was with friends on a nice day, we had some really nice drinks - "The Opener" - Green Tea infused Misguided Vodka, elderflower, lemon, soda goes down great on a summer day. So, I got a few rounds of those for my friends. Also got an order of the cauliflower bites to share which were ok, kind of expected more, perhaps should've got the "large" though the server said the small was shareable for 3. I recall our server disappearing for some time, so I went to the bar to order, we went to pay our actual server kind of caught an attitude when perhaps she didn't get the tip she was looking for further adding to my issue of the entitled and current wild tip climate but I'm not here to get on that box for this review. On a follow up visit My friend and I got brunch take out. I got the 'Bad Wolf breakfast sandwich - Sausage patty, Just Egg scramble, provolone cheese, spicy aioli on a grilled roll or between two waffles. I actually liked this and found the price was decent, my friend however was disappointed with her Benny and the Jets - "Choice of vegan poached or sunny side up Egg, vegan breakfast sausage avocado, spinach, mushrooms, and tomato, on an English muffin and topped with vegan house-made hollandaise sauce". She wasn't all that impressed with it. The biggest flaw for me though is the additional 20% on take-out orders. From what I understand it's for more "efficiency" but to me that just means code "just because". My friend loves it here, she likes the cool setting, the bathroom and is vegan. Overall, the vibes here are nice and found my food to be ok but the snags I mentioned are a real drag for me. If anything, I'd be cool coming through for a couple of "Openers" while 'hopping' around Cap Hill, but parts of my experiences here didn't leave as good a taste for me.

Phish tacos, vegetable pot pie, and the Opener

THANKS LOM for not raising prices like crazy! By comparison, you feel more affordable than before. Will stop by more often because we need more vegan places to stay alive. Best of luck.

Ordered a spicy marg and they made it extraaaa spicy. Thanks to my waitress!! Note that it leans more on jalapeño spice. Wish it had a bit of sourness to it

Panda drink (alcoholic)
Pooja K.

Sat outside and it was nice. Loved the concept that you can pick a vinyl to play - will try that again. We had a Panda drink which was was fun - not sweet at all. For food had the cauliflower wings which were yummy. We didn't stay too long but I would definitely come back here and try more dishes. Our server was very nice btw...

Phish Tacos
Aaron B.

Like it was advertised, everything was vegan, but the food was delightful. Even for a meat-eater like me. It was nice to have a meal where everything didn't weigh like a ton of bricks in your stomach. Service was great, even for a large crowd I had. I would recommend going there early (4pm open) for a big crowd, since it looked like it could get busy towards the end of day. Vibes was what this place gets this place above the others around town. The vinyl and the uniquely indie vibes in the place is highly recommended, and almost encompasses what Seattle/ Cap Hill is all about. Strongly recommend to stop by at least once. 4 out of 5, simply because I'm not vegan

Taco salad

Finally tried Life on Mars recently and we really enjoyed our visit. I tried the taco salad with the vegan ground beef which was fairly basic but was tasty and filling. My husband tried the phish n chips. He enjoyed it, especially the fries which were quite delicious. Our favorite thing that we ordered were the fried Brussels sprouts. Both of us are Brussels sprouts connoisseurs and we thought they were fantastic. Rounded out our visit with tiramisu for dessert which was good as well. Service was friendly and the vibes were good. Definitely a fun place to hang on Cap Hill. I'd definitely return to try more of their dishes.

Phish tacos!
Laura H.

I loved everything about Life On Mars! The staff were super friendly, the vibe was laid back, and the food was spectacular! I had the phish tacos and my partner had the chick'n caesar wrap. I honestly couldn't believe that the mock fish was made in house. It was fantastic! My partner is a carnivore and loved his wrap, as well. I can't believe that's the first time I have been. I'm not in Seattle too often, but LOM is definitely worth a trip!

Disco fries
ThuyVy N.

overall one of my favorite bars in Capitol Hill, nice vibe, clean, cool bathrooms, fun drinks. The disco fries were good and the daiquiri was good. Small complaint is that the booth we sat at, the seat was ripped up a bit and kinda hurt to sit on.

Ask the Community - Life On Mars

Do you have delivery?

We do not. You can call in an order and pick it up, but delivery apps are too cost prohibitive for all.

Will you ever bring back your spicy chik'n wings? The community needs them!

I hope so. They were so good. I'll have to check why they came off the menu. A lot of times it's supply issues.

Do you have heated outdoor seating?

We sure do. Partially enclosed space that gets cozy.

Do they accept cash?

Yes, we do.

Is there wifi/ability to do work?

As much as we love people coming in to disconnect from the world and have human interactions in our space, we do have wifi available for those who need to get work done.

Do you do reservations for parties of 6-7?

We start accepting reservations of parties of 10-150. Please inquire at hello@lifeonmarsseattle.com for more info. for prices, food and bev. minimums, and any other info. to help us make your event awesome.

As a self-appointed connoisseur of speakeasies (a title I awarded myself after extensive…read more"research") Needle and Thread sits comfortably at the top of my list. While reservations aren't technically required, let me save you some heartbreak, make one. They only open reservations six days in advance, and this place fills up faster than brunch spots when the sun comes out in Seattle. Totally worth the planning. The experience starts downstairs at Tavern Law restaurant, where you let the host know you're headed to Needle and Thread. From there, you're directed to a mysterious locked door next to a telephone. Yes, an actual phone. Pick it up, give your reservation name once someone answers, and bam! You're buzzed upstairs like you've just passed a very classy secret test. Once inside, you're greeted and escorted to your seat, and the magic really begins. There's no drink menu because why limit creativity? Instead, the staff plays cocktail therapist, asking about your favorite spirits, flavors, and moods. Based on your answers, they craft a completely custom drink tailored to your palate. Every cocktail we tried was spot-on. Balanced, intentional, and clearly made by people who treat mixology like an art form rather than a guessing game. Bonus points: You can request the coaster they took your order on, which lists the ingredients so you can attempt to recreate it at home (results may vary depending on your confidence and liquor cabinet.) Not to be overshadowed by the drinks, the Sockeye Salmon Crostini was a fantastic fresh, flavorful appetizer and the perfect companion to a night of bespoke cocktails. They have other heartier food as well, but we had dinner reservations elsewhere for the evening. Between the immersive entrance, outstanding service, thoughtful drinks, and authentic speakeasy atmosphere, this isn't just a bar, it's an experience. If you're in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle, Needle and Thread is a must try.

Instagram : @yeapeats…read more I was excited to try Needle & Thread since it's often described as a speakeasy, but the "hidden" aspect didn't quite live up to expectations. Unlike other speakeasies that feel truly hidden, you actually just walk into Tavern Law, check in with the hostess, and let them know you have a reservation. They then guide you to a telephone where you repeat your reservation name before being let upstairs. It's a fun concept, but not especially secretive, and they're pretty strict about not letting you up early unless it's very empty. Once seated, we actually waited almost 20 minutes before being served with no acknowledgement. We ended up having to flag down the manager just to bring attention to our table, which was disappointing given the experience they're aiming for. The waitress asks a series of questions about your preferences--likes, dislikes, and flavor inspirations--so the bartenders can create custom cocktails for you. If you're knowledgeable about alcohol, this is probably a dream. If you're not (like me), it can feel a little intimidating, but our waitress was patient and did her best to guide us through it. The drinks themselves were excellent. Even the shots were customized, which was a nice touch. The vibe upstairs is chill and relatively quiet, making it a great place to relax and talk. Food is the same menu as downstairs at Tavern Law, so nothing new there. The only downside--and unfortunately a noticeable one--was an interaction with the female bartender (not our waitress). Based on the questions we were asked, my friend gave a mix of savory and sweet preferences, since we were told these were just inspirations. However, the female bartender came over sounding visibly annoyed and said, "So do you want savory or sweet? You're giving contradicting answers." The tone felt unnecessarily rude, especially since we were just following the process as it was explained to us. Overall, the drinks were great and the concept is unique, but between the delayed service and that negative interaction, it definitely put a damper on the experience.
