I had heard a lot of great things about Life on Mars so I was really excited to try it out. We arrived at 9pm on Saturday, the bar was very busy. It seemed like half of it was booked out for a private event so it took almost 30 mins for my group of 3 to get a table. They were playing good music and it looked pretty lively inside. Once we were seated our waiter immediately gave us waters and some time to look through the menu. I decided on getting The Opener which was their best seller cocktail. My first sip of the drink was quite good as it was very elderflower forward but over time I could tell that it wasn't shaken well and a lot of the alcohol was on top. By the time I got toward the bottom of the drink it was very sprit forward and just tasted like vodka. My friend also got the chick'n nachos and after having a taste I was unimpressed. I wish there was more cheese and sour cream in the dish. The saving grace was the guacamole. read more

100% Vegan restaurant and bar. We had to wait ~15 mins for a spot on a Friday night which isn't bad at all. I didn't have a chance to try the drinks but the food was really good! Chop Cheese (4/5): As a non-beef eater, I was surprised at the consistency and likeliness of the motif beef in this sandwich! This was filling and I couldn't believe it was 100% vegan. It came with fries but unfortunately they were cold and soggy. Nachos w/ 'chorizo' (4/5): BIG plate of nachos. Very yummy. Tiramisu (3/5): This was the only dish which felt 'vegan' to me. This was my favorite bar of the night and will be one of my go to spot when coming to Seattle. The interior is nice and cozy. The vinyl records give it that cool vibe. We sat at the bar top and ordered some drinks and snacks. The cauliflower wings were well made and had some great flavors to it. It went well with the drinks. Stopped by with friends on Saturday and got kicked out before we even made it inside. We had grabbed a single Truly can each from my friend's fridge before heading out for the night and finished it long before we even got to the neighborhood. I was still holding the empty can because I hadn't seen a trash can and didn't want to litter. I was about to ask if there were any trash cans nearby and the guy at the door saw the can and immediately accused us of drinking right outside, which wasn't true. We weren't drunk, we weren't being loud, and we weren't causing any problems. He went on a rant for a while, not letting us say a single thing and ended it with "Don't let the door hit you on the way out." Seattle is usually such a chill city, which is why I came here. This place felt like the complete opposite. The host/staff was unnecessarily rude and dismissive for no reason. Definitely won't be back. read more

Happy hour here is great! $10 cocktails and reasonable prices for small bites. Our server was very friendly and quick with our order. On the other hand, there wasn't a lot of friendliness from the host. The wine selection is limited but the liquor and cocktail selection is not! Love the food here, one of the best vegan spots in Seattle and even my non vegan friends love it. I will say, the service wasn't amazing - rather slow for the amount of people in there and we were sitting at the bar. But ultimately doesn't change my thoughts on this establishment. Very off-putting and rude staff. Went to meet up with friends already inside and instead of explaining the max number of people a table could sit they condescendingly denied entry. When we asked if we could split up the group to multiple tables they said yes (easily could have offered this originally), but at that point we were turned off by their attitude and we all left. read more

I don't know where I've been my whole vegan life that I've only now found Life on Mars.. Thank you universe for providing the sound Link to deliver us from our suburban vegan wasteland of Shoreline. We got the phish and chips and the sampler platter and OH MY GOD that was easily some of the most top tier vegan food I've had, love bayside and wayward but they don't shine a light to our food last night. I haven't eaten meat for like 20+ years but the tenders on the plate were crunchy and better than anything I ever had when I did eat meat. My husband was skeptical of the "fish" but then bartered with me to finish the rest of them. Bomb bomb BOMB, the Brussels sprouts with pickled onions were just incredible. I was skeptical of cauliflower wings but jfc they were to die for. Anna was our server and she was helpful and pleasant and she steered us the right direction, when she said everything was good she wasn't lying. I am so glad this third place exists. I love music, so this place checks that box. A wall of vinyl, Sunday nights you choose the music, plus you can DJ here if you book the vinyl room or join the record club. The food is tasty - my favorite is the disco potatoes, but I also like the cauliflower wings and almost all of the brunch menu. And the drinks. The mixed, crafted cocktail drinks...so good. Considering we have visited here at least half a dozen times, I'm only leaving this mediocre review as a reference to my latest experience on 9/27. Drinks- 9/10 Food- garlic aioli and fries 12/10, gotta recommend the large serving even though it'll get you maybe 30 fries. The garlic aioli is amazing We got seated around 10pm for a table of four in a booth, and it was perfectly close to the bar. The only hiccup happened when three of our friends wanted to stop by and say hi for five minutes, an squeezed in with us. The hostess informed us that we would be charged a gratuity surcharge if they ate or drank, since it was now a larger party (7 total) and the servers estimate prices per table (with the original party of 4). We completely agreed, and our additional three friends did not order anything and left after about 10 minutes. Long story short, went it came time to settle the bill I paid on the typical Square interface where you only get to see the total before tip, and then it provides options for a tip amount (18-20-25%). I wrote in 15% and we left. Come to find out later on that our table was still charged a gratuity fee on top of our bill for just the four of us, and no one gave us any heads up that that was included in our pre tip bill. How does that make sense? Highly recommend to double check with staff here that your itemized bill is accurate before they just have you pay and print out a bill, and to quadruple check that the hostess isn't being dishonest about the nature of the extra charge. Not impressed from a local lounge such as Life on Mars. (Every other visit I've had has been a good experience, which is why I'm rating this 3/5 stars. I'm just very disappointed in how they handle paying the bill and notifying of any charges.) it was $100 for 4 drinks and a fries..... read more

Great vegan spot for brunch! I always like those think for vegan meat substitutes to think of the substitutes as a separate thing and not whatever its a substitute for. I got the fabians fiesta which was a really good saucy hash. The just egg tasted tofu-y? Not sure if it's a soy product. The sausage tasted like soy sauce crumbles. And everything else was naturally vegan and normal scramble stuff. I really liked the sauce and their potatoes and it did come together really nicely. No, but we knew it would be fun, the perfect vibe, and worth the effort. I arrived late and a bit flustered after sitting in Seattle traffic and suddenly forgot how to order a drink - ha! Our server was awesome (shout out Micaela) - engaging, attentive, knowledgeable, patient, and made great suggestions. I was very excited to take my family here as I saw the reviews and my partner is very excited to try this place however it was absolutely horrendous in both the Customer Service and the food. When my family and I arrived, we did not know it was a 21+ establishment so we brought my little sister in there and once we found out that it was 21+ we told her leave and decided we get takeout. We took the menus outside so that my little sister, my mother myself and my partner can look at the menus. When the server came outside, after giving us a moment to look at the menus, she was very rude and disingenuous to my younger sister. We decided to just ignore it and let it go and hope that the food would be worth the terrible experience. We picked up the food about 30 to 45 minutes after we placed it. We got four meals and one platter - at least we were supposed to. When my family and I arrived home, we were disheartened to see that the orders were incorrect as well as burnt. We decided we would handle the matter later on and just order something from a different place. As I stated before, the server customer service was very terrible and she was very rude to my younger sister, so I decided that I would email them, tell them about my experience and inform them that they gave me the wrong food to get a refund. Right off the bat they were very defensive about the food being incorrect and insisted it was because that we got to go orders. It took quite a while to get a refund and it seemed like they did not want to give us our money back. The last email I just received from Jean Mason. She was very rude in the email. She was telling me that I made falsified statements and that the order was checked by numerous people. She also claimed that the Server was not rude, that other employees Heard and saw the interaction. Which is confusing to me as we were outside, but I digress. She threatened me and told me that she will be sending my photo out to other restaurants in Capitol Hill, telling them to beware of me that I am trying to scam them as well as other restaurants in Capitol Hill, which is the furthest thing from the truth. This was just horrendous Customer Service as well as horrendous food That was also incorrect. I was simply trying to get my money back. If Jean does decide to send my photo to other restaurants or to post it online for other people to see, I will be seeking legal action as that is illegal in Washington state. As this would be defamation. My advice, Don't ever go to life on Mars unless you want to have horrible food, and Customer Service. It's very unfortunate that we had this experience at life on Mars as my partner always wanted to try this place out and she's very disappointed in what life on Mars have to offer. Ordered the Pink Opaque, which tasted light and refreshing and perfectly balanced. Atmosphere was impeccable. I haven't been here yet, but I wear my Life on mars shirt around San Diego and get complements from time-to-time. Just the fact that this place is part of the lives of some cool people that I respect makes it worthwhile to support to me. Next time I'm back in Seattle I'm visiting for sure to get my drink on and listen to some great music, hopefully with some great people, like Seattle used to have. I'm not vegan but if I have to be to eat there, I'm down. What's not to like when there's records, food and drink in the same place! 4.5 stars. I love the vibes here! A trendy little gem in the middle of Cap Hill. I definitely recommend stopping by here to hangout with friends. I came here on a date with my boyfriend and it was lovely. It's not overly loud and noisy, and the interior is inviting! The Daoist was what I ordered. It was creamy, sweet, and somehow refreshing! I really enjoyed the subtle lychee flavor in there. Not to mention the ADORABLE panda tiki cup that it comes in. We tried Life on Mars today, and based on the reviews, I came in with decent expectations--but sadly, it was a big letdown. I ordered the mezcal margarita, which tasted more like mezcal with lime than an actual cocktail--definitely not balanced, and not enjoyable. The fish and chips were just okay, but the fries were clearly old and reheated, likely in a microwave. The nachos were honestly the worst part--soggy, bland, and totally disappointing. I am constantly impressed by Life on Mars. The drinks are better balanced and more thoughtful and exciting than other bars in the city. I grew up on a meat and potatoes diet and don't have any issue finding a delicious meal from they vegan/veggie menu. I am also a huge audiophile and love that you can select records from their library for them to play live. This sets you up for whatever mood or feel you might need on any given day.
