I can't tell if this cookie is more cookie or cake. It's so rich and decadent- I washed it down with water but I slightly regretted not ordering a coffee or tea. Each cookie is about $5 and next time I think I can get away with sharing with my friends. Although it's not a local establishment and I may ruffle some feathers, I would still get this cookie over the cupcakes in Georgetown. read more

Levain Bakery - Georgetown, D.C - Rocky Road - Bakeries Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

When I saw there was a Levain near our Airbnb, I got so excited and had to come here. I had their cookies years ago in NYC and have always remembered how amazing they were. The place was pretty busy but the line moved quickly. They had about 5-6 types of cookies plus a seasonal one that had ginger in it. I got the chocolate chip and chocolate peanut butter chip cookies. These cookies are massive and it took me almost 4 days to finish most of them. They were still pretty fresh even after that time (probably from the insane amount of butter in them). The chocolate chip was cookie perfection. Melty chocolate chips and a soft cookie with a slight crisp on the outside. I would for sure get this again next time I'm near a Levain. The chocolate peanut butter one was also good but a bit less decadent and slightly drier so it wasn't quite as good. My friend's fiancé tried some and loved it though so he helped eat most of that cookie. Definitely come here if you're in the area. You won't regret it. read more

I tried walking past this place, but the hubby wasn't having it, so I agreed to share a cookie with him. These cookies were swollen!! Looked like muffins. We decided to try the limited edition Rocky Road cookie...let me tell you...DELICIOUS!!! And it was hot and the marshmallow had just the right roasted crunch on it... Honestly after sharing that cookie with him I could have hotten my own, but I didn't that doesn't mean I'm not going again before I leave. I don't feel guilty since we walked 1.1 miles! read more

Some of the best cookies in DC can be found at Levain! I first sampled them at a friends graduation party and was eager to stop in one of their physical locations to sample some more of their delectable treats! I swung by on a Saturday evening and the line was out the door but moving quickly. If I hadn't already tried them in the past, the line itself would've indicated just how great they are! Once inside I got the "boring" choice - chocolate chip - but it was one of the best I've ever had! The cookies are HUGE and fresh and any option is a good option. With the many dessert options in Georgetown, Levain should be at the top of the list! Oh, and if you have any sort of event that you require or desire sweet treats check out their assortments! read more

My friends and I wanted a sweet treat in between our meals. We opted for the dark chocolate chocolate chip cookie. I was hoping it was going to be warm but it was room temperature. Cookie was soft through and through. For $5.50, I'd say it was worth the price. I would come again! read more

Visiting DC this week and had to give Levain a try as I've read about their other-worldly cookies. I can attest! Levain's cookies are deserving of all the hype/hyperbole. I tried the lemon cookie and was hooked after the 1st bite. Absolutely unmatched and the service was inviting and seamless. The chunky exterior gives way to a chewy interior. The lemon flavor is highlighted and enhanced by studs of lemon in this spell-bounding treat. Cannot wait to try the other flavors in my 4-pack. I'd gladly pay over $25 the next time I'm anywhere near a Levain Bakery. Please open a shop somewhere in Texas, preferably Austin. read more

I love Levain cookies, but this store isn't consistent. Every time I've stopped by for a cookie, it's been hit or miss. Sometimes, my cookies will be hard and stale; other times, they'll be warm and gooey. Does it depend on the cookie type? When it's baked? Or do they heat it up for you when you order? Someone please let me know! read more

Still kicking out quality baked goods here, the first Levain location to open in the DMV. I think of it as their flagship bakery. I'm quite fond of the plain brioche, it's consistently yummy and singled-sized (love that). Their original cookie (chocolate chip walnut) is a winner too. The dark chocolate/chocolate chip cookie is too much of everything for me. The new, seasonal loaf lemon cake is respectable. read more

I've followed these cookies on social media and finding out they had a location in Georgetown made my day! The shop is simple with a few places to sit indoors and seating outside along an alley. The cookies are thick and delicious. They have a nice crunchy exterior and soft interior. The chocolate peanut butter cookie is my favorite and taste similar to a brownie. The chocolate chip walnut cookie was my least favorite. It was just simple. read more

I stopped into Levain again tonight to curb a late-night craving for a sweet treat: today, I chose the Chocolate Chip Brioche ($5), which is rich, decadent brioche roll smothered with a good coating of chocolate chips inside, and a dusting of sugar on top. Service was friendly as always, and I didn't feel rushed at all (though the atmosphere was quite buzzy), despite there being around a five-minute line at 9pm on a Saturday, and they were even willing to warm it up for me! The roll itself was...perhaps even better than their cookies? I know that's going to spark outrage and controversy, but the actual bread is soft and pillowy, with a crunchy-but-not-stale exterior, and it isn't too sweet: the semisweet chocolate chips inside provide all of the necessary sweetness and richness that the baked good needs. Yes, it's a bit denser than your standard brioche, but it's truly an amazing dessert (or perhaps a fun breakfast pastry if you're craving something sweet) that's generously portioned! It's the same price as their cookies, and $5 is a pretty steep price to pay for what's essentially a bread roll with chocolate chips, but I truly don't think that this is something that I could make at home - there's a unique craftsmanship to the dough that I couldn't achieve. And unlike their cookies, I didn't feel a bit sick after eating the whole thing, which is nice - I just felt pleasantly full. Overall, I think that their chocolate chip brioche is truly one of the best items that Levain sells, and I'd definitely come back to get it again! read more

A really good cookie. Flavors are well balanced no matter what you get, coconut was my favorite. Will return.

I had the double chocolate chip cookie and it was very decadent. It wasn't very sweet, which is different for me. I'm assuming they use a semi sweet chocolate instead of a milk chocolate in the cookies. The cookie was very large too, I was able to share it with my daughter, it is not something that I could just eat in one sitting and definitely not by myself. I was there on a Saturday, the line was long, but it moved pretty fast. The store was very clean. They also offer coffee but it is not a lot of coffee beverages to chose from. Oh thank god for these cookies. They are outrageous delicious. Thick in the middle but with a slight crisp at the ends, and so full of fresh flavor you will swear you are in heaven. I have always been more of an agnostic, but these cookies have convinced me that there is a benevolent force in the universe smiling upon us. With its iconic decadent and oversized cookies, Levain lives up to all its rave reviews and reputation as an East Coast dessert institution. Levain's cookies aren't just giant for their wow factor -- the super thick cookies have the perfect balance between a gooey center and super crispy crust. Each cookie is loaded with mix-ins, whether it's chocolate chips and walnuts, oatmeal and raisins, or golden raisins and coconut. If you have dietary restrictions, they have a fantastic vegan AND gluten-free version of their classic chocolate chip walnut cookie, and it definitely lives up to their promise that you can't tell it's vegan and gluten-free. Although Levain is most famous for its cookies, they also have a variety of other baked goods, including breads, muffins, and scones. The service is speedy -- just order from the counter, they'll package it up for you, and then you can be on your way. If you manage to sneak in when there isn't a line, you can be in and out within minutes. But if you're visiting on a weekend, I'd definitely budget for a bit of a wait. All around a great spot for a decadent, Instagram-worthy treat! read more

I just wanted some bread and a cookie. THEY DID NOT DISAPPOINT! I will be back over and over again!

Does the perfect cookie exist?! YES and it is at Levain! I am a chocolate chip cookie addict; it is my all time favorite baked good so when I heard about Levain, I knew I had to stop by. We went on a cold Sunday afternoon and there was literally no line at all. We asked what their most popular cookie was and they said it was the chocolate chip walnut. So that's what we went with. This cookie had the perfect consistency, not too soft or hard and certainly not overly sweet. The walnuts gave it the perfect bite and texture! I will note that right around the time we were leaving, the line was getting pretty long. So beware that you may have to stand in line for a while depending on when you go. We were just full that day so we had to pick just one cookie for the sake of just trying it while we were already in the Georgetown area. But next time I'm picking up one of each type of cookie. read more

My friend had heard good things about this place so we decided to check it out on a Saturday evening. There was a line extending outside but we were able to get to the ordering counter in about 15 minutes. The staff were very friendly in taking our orders. I got the chocolate chip walnut ($6.25, vegan), and she got the lemon and chocolate. The vegan one was deliciously divine, soft yet crumbly, with melting chocolate. It was thick and had a larger volume than expected. My friend also enjoyed her cookies--overall well worth the wait! read more

I couldn't wait to try Levain's on my recent trip to Georgetown. Parking of course is non-existent, so I hopped out rather than looking for an open spot. There were several people ahead of me and with 2 cashiers, but the line moved fast. I got 2 walnut chocolate chip cookies and a walnut sticky bun. Warmed them up in a toaster oven. The bun was a miss...it was not flavorful and dry. The cookies though were fantastic! They were smaller and gooier than than I expected. Heavy on calories but definitely the BEST cookies I've had! It's pricy but no more than frou-frou coffee drinks. Service was prompt and friendly. read more

I was in DC for the weekend & was looking for dessert to satisfy my sweet tooth. I was shocked & so glad to see a Levain in Georgetown! I've been dying to try this place in New York but never had the opportunity. I came 15 minutes before it closed and the wait was only 10 minutes. The person at the bakery recommended the chocolate chip walnut cookie and I read reviews that the dark chocolate peanut butter cookie was bomb. Both were fresh out of oven. Each cookie is 6ounces, the size of your palm. The cookie is gooey and soft. The outer has a mild crunch. Each bite was filled with melted chocolate chip and other toppings. I have tried replicating this recipe at home but could never get the perfect combination of cookie & cake. Levain, what is your secret?? People have been complaining about the price since each cookie cost $5. However, the Haagen Daez across the street serves ice cream for ~$5 a scoop. In my opinion, cookie better than ice cream. read more

Cookies are delicious and hearty (could definitely share one with a friend or two!). They sell other pastries (they make a solid scone) and bread (love the walnut loaf). Yum! Come here for all your sweet treat needs. These cookies cost like $5 each but they also weigh about a pound... Great for sharing or for multiple servings. Lovvvve Levain Bakery!!! Wish there was a closer location to Loudoun, but always love a Georgetown visit!

This place has been hyped up ever since it opened in Georgetown but never had a chance to try it until now. Had to wait in line for maybe 10 minutes; there's always a line here! And no indoor seating although there are some outdoor seats. I got the two chip chocolate chip cookie and it was basically $5. To be honest, after eating it, I don't really know why this place is hyped up... aesthetics or the fact it's a big cookie? I felt like it was just meh... it's better than the cookies you buy at the grocery store but it's not worth $5 for a cookie I'd say. Cookies are my favourite dessert but I also can't tolerate anything too sweet or else I'll feel sick so probably another reason why I didn't enjoy it as much. The only thing that resembles a cookie to me is the crisp bottom of the cookie, the rest of it is really soft and overfilled with chocolate which is way too much chocolate for me - couldn't finish it because too much chocolate and too much sugar. It reminds me of a Mrs. Field cookie that got a whole bunch of melted chocolate injected into it, making the dough very gooey and sticky! I like the crispy dough part of cookies and there wasn't really much of that - every bite I had, there was just a ton of chocolate! I feel like the thick dough was there, but no distinct taste to it like a buttery taste or something. Did I just pick the wrong cookie flavour for me? Probably LOL. I would try another flavour to see if they're better for my taste buds, but $5 for a cookie that resembles a hardened muffin top with huge chocolate chips isn't my thing. But I liked taking pictures of it for my Instagram. The blue packaging is pretty. Probably wouldn't recommend for someone who can't tolerate super sweet desserts or cookie lovers who enjoy crunchy cookies over soft ones. But I can see why others like it, although $5 for a cookie and waiting in a line is something I'd keep in mind. The place has napkins and water cups if needed. Also, there's several cashiers to serve multiple people in line so that's useful. Probably would recommend going on a weekday because the lines here on the weekend can be a little intense or you'll see people giving up in the line... but it's not as bad as Georgetown cupcake that's for sure. read more

I've been to a number of the NYC locations, they are all great. This location in Georgetown, also great! Nice service at the counter, awesome selection of cookies. We grabbed chocolate chip with walnut, chocolate chip without walnut, chocolate chocolate chip, chocolate peanut butter chip, and oatmeal raisin. Saved them for dessert that night. Decided to stop by Levain on a Sunday night for a late night treat. I have frequented Levain multiple times and this visit, I decided to order an Oatmeal and Raisin cookie and a Caramel Coconut Chocolate Chip. The cookies are rather expensive but they are also big - so big you might end up feeling full after eating only one. The Caramel Coconut Chocolate Chip is probably 10% caramel, 40% chocolate chip, and 50% cookie with coconut mixed in. It was really delicious, but I wish there could've been a more even ratio of caramel to chocolate. As for the Oatmeal and Raisin, it was also really good and people who are into a more chewy, no-chocolate cookie would really be into it. Unless the cookies are fresh out of the oven, my advice is to warm them up a bit before you eat them! You'll have good mix of a crispy outside and gooey and soft inside. Service was very quick. The bakery is small and has very little seating. read more

I doordashed myself some cookies because of all the hype around Levain, and I sad to say....I'm a little disappointed. It's not bad, but not worth the price tag. My favorite cookie ever is CCC and the Levain one did not live up to the hype. It just tasted like sugar. It didn't have the aromatic of the butter, chocolate chip, or anything. Just. Straight. Sugar. Maybe I have to try it warmed up next time. The packaging was nice and wrapped really well though and their merch is cute, too bad I'm not a fan :( read more
