We were traveling from CA to DC and came across Levain in Georgetown and decided to give it a try. I must say that I'm not a cookie person. But.. Levain git me hooked up. OMG!! They did not disappoint. We got our hands on some of their cookies, bread and banana bread. ALL OF THEM WERE GOOD that we had to come back the next day. The banana bread was so moist, with load of chocolate chips. We also tried the wheat raisin & country bread. Both are chewy and soft I. the inside. Oh so good! My fav cookie was the peanut butter dark chocolate. Very yummy. Next in line was the rocky road. The cookies are soft with super a lot of things in it depend on what flavor you got. I hate dry and crunchy cookie. We sat outside, enjoying our cookies and people watching. It was a beautiful afternoon and the cookies really made our day. My sincere request to Levine.. Levain is one of my favorite cookie places and I always stop by whenever I see one when I'm walking around. My friends and I just completed an escape room nearby and as we were browsing shops, we decided to grab some victory cookies. I usually only get a few chocolate chip walnut cookies, but this time I grabbed a dark chocolate peanut butter and dark chocolate chocolate chip cookie as well. All of them were delicious as expected from Levain! I wish I knew where they source their chocolate chips. At $5 per cookie, I would say it's pretty worth. They are huge and I usually take a while to finish just one. Crumbl does NOT compare at all, so don't even try to compare them lmao. Saw this randomly omg to make my own perfume. Who knew this NYC staple had made its way to DC. And the cookies did not dissapoint they were softball sized, soft, and delicious. I bought one of each cookie and enjoyed all of them. Levain also has scones, cakes and other pastries so they do more than cookies. If the cookies are this good I know they rest of their offerings have to be good as well. It was busy in the bakery but still nothing felt crowded and everyone was really organized they got me in and out quickly. These are hands down the best cookies!! My favorite is the coconut caramel, it's divine- I'm glad it stayed on the menu since it was supposed to be a limited edition cookie when they brought it out a couple of years ago. Walnut chocolate chip is a close second! I have only gone to the store once on a weekend and it was busy but I didn't have to wait long. It can get loud and crowded inside so I would recommend ordering to go :). Every other time I've ordered through Uber eats and enjoy them at home. Levain Bakery was truly a serendipitous find in our Yelp search for dessert. I didn't know Levain expanded across the country from its NYC origin and branded itself with logo, colors and all through its famous cookies, and rightfully so. The chocolate chip walnut cookie tastes as good and is still as heavy as the one I had back in 2014 from their original bakery in NYC. This is a heavy cookie, weight-wise, with lots of chocolate chips and walnuts. Crispy, slightly browned on the outside and soft & dense inside. This cookie is in a league of its own! I've been to many bakeries around the country offering similar cookies, but Levains is truly the best and cannot be duplicated. They have other baked goods at this location - sweet loaves, breads, baguettes, and other cookie flavors, they even feature fresh baguettes with butter and jam wrapped up just like those seen in Parisian bakery storefronts. Service was very professional, friendly. The person behind the counter kept our very large order straight, separated and packaged everything neatly. Even the cookies were individually wrapped to be hand held. Levain is a staple spot to bring your DC visitors to. It's always seasonally decorated and has cute blue lawn chairs set up outside. The bakery opens early and stays open later, so it's a great place to go anytime of the day when you're on M St. The VIP of their regular cookie selection is absolutely the chocolate chocolate chip (yes that's what it's called), and it's served hot and fast so you can enjoy pretty quickly after ordering or take it to go and heat up on your own time as they reheat well. In the past, I tried the oatmeal cookie and the cinnamon butter bread, but I didn't like either of them, so I just stick with the chocchocchip cookie if I do visit. I have never heard of this bakery, but my sister had. She said they were known for some of the best cookies. Obviously we had to try! We first tried them when visiting NY. We were in DC and happened to come upon them and were excited to go in. This location was much larger than the NY location we visited. It is a small shop but the smells of deliciousness is outstanding. We were actually able to stop and look at the menu this time and there was so much on it! They have cookies, breads, pastries and even coffee drinks. I will say the staff was readily available and so friendly. We had new people with us so they wanted to look around and at the display items. They never rushed us, answered all our questions and gave recommendations. They also have counters and seats to eat inside. We ordered a chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin and a chocolate brioche bun. Now these cookies are HUGE! They are massive and heavy and so filling. It is way too much to eat in one sitting. They were also served warm, which really is the best. They were your typical chocolate chip cookie, they were good, but not the best cookie ever as I had anticipated. They were very good warm. As it cooled and I ate the rest that evening, it was not as good. It got really crunchy and hard. I would say these are best eaten warm. They have a nice crisp and soft gooey chocolaty center that I just love with a fresh cookie. But again, that really changed after a few hours. I wanted to save the brioche bun for breakfast the next morning but immediately regretted it. By the next morning, it was hard as a rock, and actually very inedible. I was so disappointed and wondered if it was better warm. I would definitely recommend stopping by and trying them. They are big enough to share which is good. They seem to have many locations in NY and some other states as well. All in all, decent cookie, better warm for sure but worth the price. read more

It was hunky, dense, thick, stout, and commanded attention from only real chocolate lovers. So this place has been on my friend's eye for awhile and we finally had a chance to stop by on a random weekend. I knew if it's popularity so I was worried about the wait. Surprisingly the food angels shined light on us and it was only a 5 minute wait! The first thing I noticed was their wall which had beautiful artwork of places in DC. I don't recall if there was a bathroom, but I do recall the limited seating. It was bar table against the wall on one side and some seating by the front window. It was very clean and the staff all seemed very nice and the cookie picking process was so efficient. So what did my friend end up getting? The dark chocolate chip cookie and some fall seasonal cookie. I wish I remembered the name! I just remembered between the two they favored the dark chocolate chip cookie. I only had a few bites of that flavor so I can only speak about that one! I loved how the cookie was moist and really filling. It was like one of those puffy Japanese pancakes. It wasn't super sweet which I love. When it comes to chocolate chip sometimes people over sugar on the cookie and it counters the chocolate chips. I found this cookie did not do this. So would I or my friend return? I would because who can be satisfied with just a few bites? I first sampled them at a friends graduation party and was eager to stop in one of their physical locations to sample some more of their delectable treats! Here's the summary: The good: -Apple Cinnamon Muffin- this was tasty with fresh apple. Not too sweet but not bland. -Chocolate Chip Walnut- This was a good blend of chocolate and walnut without being too much of either. Just okay: -Two Chip Chocolate- This was super chocolatey. My family had a small business too and it was tough to make a living. So here was my experience. My friends and I came in from California to visit the DC area. We wanted to try local restaurants and eateries that we can't find back home. After ordering coffee my group sat down for a while. From my vantage point in the front of the shop, I clearly saw the all-gender bathroom down the hallway in the back. When I asked an employee if I could use the facilities, I couldn't hear what the lady said. The music was too loud. I asked again and said I saw the restroom down the hallway. I did not expect to be given attitude. So, Lavain, please either turn down the volume of the music, train employees to speak kindly to customers, or preferably both. If not, please at the very least tell me why. read more

This is a very good cookie shop. I hesitated to write a review before I had an opportunity to visit this place a few times to confirm my thoughts. On my first visit back in summer 2021 I thought it was a good experience compared to the local options however a bit of a letdown nevertheless because I expected a similar cookie quality to this company's NYC stores. Similar cookie quality as in the iconic, moist and gooey center which is this company's claim to fame. Considering this shop is the first location to open in the DMV I assumed the bakers here simply needed some time for on-the-job experience to replicate the cookie quality that people expect from this brand. However on the last visit I was impressed with how consistent the quality of the cookies were in comparison with their company advertisement; especially on social media. The slightly crispy exterior and gooey interior was classic. These cookies are full-flavor, dense, and filling. This isn't necessarily the kind of cookie shop where you could eat multiple cookies in one sitting. Perhaps you can however these cookies are so rich and probably the heaviest near-traditional style cookie of this caliber that you can find in the DMV. Especially their chocolate chip variety. I love that they use an appropriate ratio of semi-sweet and milk chocolate chips. One thing to note is they've virtually stripped all street parking on M Street which is where Levain is located, so parking is almost impossible however there are two very small parking lots in walking distance which are inadequate to accomodate the automobile traffic on M Street. Came here to try their cookies and they were so delicious!! I got the chocolate chip, double dark chocolate chip, and fall cookie!! My favorite was their original chocolate chip cookie!! It was crispy on the edges and so nice and soft and warm in the middle and not super sweet!! The dark chocolate one was kind of like a brownie. The interior is fairly simple and spartan with a few areas to sit though most of the floor is occupied by a line queue that was empty at the time of our visit. They have a variety of large and indulgent cookies. We tried several varieties including their seasonal Rocky road variety, peanut butter, and chocolate chip. Cookies are a la carte and pricey. There is no special deal for a half dozen or dozen. We also bought one of their cute reusable tote bags. The cookies are rich and indulgent. They are chock full of chips and other goodies. They are quite dense and heavy - don't expect a light or chewy or soft cookie. But they are good. Delicious and definitely an indulgence. When I saw there was a Levain near our Airbnb, I got so excited and had to come here. I had their cookies years ago in NYC and have always remembered how amazing they were. These cookies are massive and it took me almost 4 days to finish most of them. They were still pretty fresh even after that time (probably from the insane amount of butter in them). The chocolate chip was cookie perfection. Melty chocolate chips and a soft cookie with a slight crisp on the outside. I would for sure get this again next time I'm near a Levain. The chocolate peanut butter one was also good but a bit less decadent and slightly drier so it wasn't quite as good.
