So, I'm on this mission to find the best hot chocolate in the DMV. Levain was on multiple lists of best hot chocolates in the area. I happened to be in Georgetown, so I said, "Why not". We luckily got our order in before a huge crowd came in and filled up the place. The place is cute like a cozy bakery with a nice mural and some reviews from major magazines. Service was good and patient (my friend couldn't decide on a cookie). So I get the hot chocolate and oatmeal raisin cookie. Cookie was fine a still warm. A bit too sweet for my taste and could've used nuts or something for texture. My friend's chocolate chip was good- also sweet and warm. I suggest getting a form or spoon for that because we got melted chocolate all over our hands. Now the hot chocolate. I kept on reading about the special chocolate they use. I love dark chocolate. I love drinking chocolate. The chocolate was described as, "extra dark bittersweet Valrhona chocolate". Awesome. All adjectives I love in a cocoa. But what I got was a cup filled halfway with Luke warm oat milk with the rest foam and could not taste any chocolate. Let alone a fancy varietal chocolate from France. It was essentially warm milk. The cookies at Levain definitely lived up to the hype, but boy are they dense and sweet! Between the chocolate chip walnut, dark chocolate chocolate chip, and dark chocolate PB chip, preference was for the dark chocolate chocolate chip. If you are a chocolate lover, this one is definitely for you as it is rich and chocolatey. The chocolate chip walnut was also pretty good, which is surprising as I'm generally not a walnut fan. This cookie was slightly less sweet than the dark chocolate chocolate chip. The dark chocolate PB chip reminded me slightly of a Reese's PB cup. As mentioned previously, these cookies are dense and sweet, so a quarter to half of a cookie was more than enough to satisfy my sweet tooth. I think if I ate any more, it would have been sugar overload. I also got a slice of the banana chocolate chip bread, which I'm looking forward to trying. Finally made it here and my taste buds could not be happier!!! I fully understand the hype and the forever long lines depending on the time of day. After driving past about four times and discouraged by the line, I thought I'd try a different angle. I arrived first thing on Sunday morning!! I didn't have to wait in line outside, there were a few people who had the same idea but once your inside and that sweet cookie smell invades your nostrils, all you can think is cooooookkkkiiiieesss!! It smells so good and makes it hard to stay focused lol. I literally wanted one of everything!! However, trying to practice some form of self control, I got two Oatmeal Raisin , two Chocolate Chip Oatmeal and a Blueberry Muffin. The cookies are so freakin good!!! While on the larger side, they are packed with flavor!! Best part, they were still warm!!!! I couldn't even make it down the block without eating one first!!! I ordered a bunch of cookies via UberEats. They are huge but so delicious! The sides are crunchy and the middle is soft and gooey. I tried all the types and the chocolate chip walnut is the favorite. A friendly man just opened the door real wide and ushered me in to cookie heaven! For my first time, I decided to go with the original flavor chocolate chip with walnut. Biting in to cookie, I received the much hoping for crunch and sunk deeper into soft pillowy cookie dough, the perfect cookie texture. That said, the flavor of the cookie was one dimensional to me. I was expecting layers of flavors including rich butter, silky vanilla, tangy salt, and all of the other ingredients that make a cookie amazing. However, I got kind of a homogenous taste which was a disappointment. Given the size of the cookie, I feel like $5.25 price was fair, especially given the neighborhood. However, what raised this to five stars were the cookies. I grabbed them to bring home to my family and I think every single one of us agreed they were some of the best cookies we've ever eaten - hands down. They are thin at the edges, thick in the middle, perfectly balance a crunchy edge with a moist inside, and are chock-full of chocolate chips or other good mix-ins. Easily the richest cookie I've ever had. I got a "two chip chocolate chip" cookie to surprise my friend! Wasn't sure if she had a nut allergy, otherwise I would have gotten the classic one with the walnuts. She gave me a small bit of it (maybe 1/6 of a cookie?) which was more than enough. The cafe con leche cookie that they had when they first opened was really good as well. I actually prefer these cookies room temperature over warm because they tend to be more gooey on the inside and I like a little more texture. Nevertheless, these are the best cookies I've ever had. The lines were pretty long when they first opened but they seem to have leveled out side them. I do not, however, think this place is the most COVID-safe because they allow too many people in the small shop at once and once you place your order you have to wait a little bit. Levain is seriously the best! I went to DC with my family a couple of months ago and at the time, this location was very new. The line was expectedly long but totally worth the wait. If I remember correctly, each cookie is $4 but with the 10% tax in DC each one ends up being $4.40! The space is large with an area to host people eating their baked goods and/or a long safe distance line. It's by an alley so the line can weave down it. The menu is overshadowed by their famous cookies- chocolate chip walnut, dark chocolate chocolate cookie, chocolate peanut butter chip and raisin. However, they do have other items like a great chocolate chip brioche. Warning: The cookies are worth every penny and are HUGE. They count as a full meal so consider splitting one with a friend. The best chocolate chip cookie ever!! Had it for the first time in NYC and was so stoked about the Georgetown location. The chocolate chip walnut cookie is so warm, fresh, and perfect! They also sell milk and coffee, but no flavor syrups can be added. Employees are always friendly and give your order quickly. You can also order for pickup or delivery. Usually there can be a line on weekends or nicer days weather wise but I think it's definitely worth the wait. Sometimes they sell limited edition cookies as well so be on the lookout for those! read more

Amazing, my family went to Washington over spring break and my sister said we had to try Levain Bakery. Definitely was the right move because their cookies tasted so good. I personally for the lemon cookie and I really love lemon flavored sweets. Levain Bakery definitely met my expectations and definitely would come back if I lived closer to one or revisited Washington. read more

My wish came true! Levain bakery has finally come to Washington DC! It's been several years since I've lived in NYC and had a cookie from here, so I was so excited to hear it was coming to town. It's only been a few days since it opened but I was ready to wait in the line and wait for a delicious cookie. My husband and I went on a Saturday afternoon, and the line was about a block. I'm going to guesstimate the wait was about 50ish minutes. I imagine it'll have long lines for a while, but definitely worth the wait. When you get to the outside of the door, there's an employee who helps regulate when we can go in. It has good social distancing spots to wait inside, with two spots to stand in each line. All the baked goods are displayed behind the counter, and the menu is an easy read. We were there for cookies, so we ordered the delicious chocolate walnut, and also tried the new cookie, cafe con leche. The chocolate walnut - just as delicious as I last remembered it with lots of chocolate chips! The cafe con leche was also very good! I would definitely order it again. The flavor was unique as it wasn't just a chocolate taste.. seemed like a mocha taste infused with it. All the employees were so pleasant and wonderful. They were patient with my questions, and were smiling the whole time amidst the business of the day. Super thankful for such a great team, and that Levain has come to town! I had Levain in NYC many years ago, and can't recall if these cookies taste exactly the same as the NYC institution. We went on a lovely day Sunday afternoon and only waited about 10 minutes in line. I'm sure the initial hype has now died down a bit too. The line moves quickly and the staff is extremely pleasant. We tried the chocolate walnut, chocolate peanut butter, and oatmeal raisin cookies - $4 a piece. The 2 former tasted great, but the oatmeal raisin was not liked at all by anyone. It was almost like the cookie wasn't baked all the way through, but you can see from the photo, the cookie was still raw. It was literally a pile of mush, and even the raisins seemed undercooked. I can't recall ever eating a cookie like this at the NYC establishment, so this was disappointing to see the inconsistency in quality. read more

Omg. Oh......my GODDDDDDD! These are the best cookies I've had IN. MY. LIFE! TOTALLY worth the hype. TOTALLY worth the wait (which wasn't even that long today) Staff was super nice and pumped to be opening. I mean, we can't go wrong with Levain Bakery. Whenever I'm DC or NYC, it's a MUST. The cookies are so soft on the inside. The only issue I could see with this particular branch, is that the temperature inside the store has always been a little off. But aside from that, I don't really eat inside and always take to go anyway. read more
