Wonderful cookies! Classic atmosphere with quick service. Easy walk from the Copley center hotels.
Quaint bakery with so much to choose from (and drool over). Friendly staff helped us choose a few popular items - blueberry muffin, peanut butter chocolate chip cookie and a brioche with chocolate chips. We also got iced coffees. Highly recommend ~ we will be back!
The hype holds at Levain, truly amazing cookies, and I say this as someone who leans more towards crispy/crunchy cookies. The smell is intoxicating when you first enter. The chocolate chip walnut and coconut caramel were both very good - not too dense or airy, tender crumb, and melty chocolate. The weight of the cookie is noticeable - 6 oz is big and helps with the price point. Would definitely return for an occasional treat.
I've thought about these cookies ever since I've had them in NY, so imagine my surprise to find a location here! I immediately started telling my friend how good it was and that we should go. Her sweet tooth really came through because she was sold right away. When we walked in, there already was a line in the store. Not too bad though since it moved quick, and we got our cookies pretty soon after. And... just as good as I remember, though I got a different flavor this time around. The caramel coconut chocolate chip cookie was delicious, I only wish there was a better distribution of coconut and caramel. I'll have to come again raspberry pistachio cookie I saw.
After hearing great things about Levain, we stopped in for a quick visit tonight after dinner. Our service was awesome. Our server was extremely patient with us as we took a long time picking out exactly what we wanted, and once we were ready, she was there ready for us with a smile. Sounds like a little thing, but it took away all that awkwardness you can feel when staring at cookies for way too long. The shop itself is really cool inside. Love the small seating area out front, perfect for people watching on Newbury. And finally- the cookies themselves were all great. We got a Chocolate Chip Walnut, Two Chip Chocolate Chip, and a Raspberry Pistachio. All were fresh, tasty, and certainly worth the trip. Levain lives up to their reputation and proves to be a great spot with great service. Will definitely be back!
NY cookie store here in Boston. They have a warm, thick, and chunky cookies as well as other pastries. Saw an interesting flavor of raspberry pistachio. Quick and easy service. The cookie was warm and had lots of raspberry and pistachio bits in it. The texture was great and how i remembered. Subtle pistachio flavor. Mostly taste the raspberry. Gooey inside and crisp edges.
Unfortunately, I was unimpressed by Levain. Our cookies were room temperature, dense (as expected), and lacked depth of flavor. The ingredients seemed to be decently good quality, but the execution was lacking. Service was standard, limited/no indoor seating, but some outdoor seating. Cute decor inside. I wanted to like it, but I didn't think the cookie lived up to its hype on social media nor was it worth $5-6.
I haven't heard about this bakery before but now that I have, I'll be raving about it and will stop by all the time. The cookies are amazing, one of the best I've ever had. If you happen to be in the area, I highly recommend checking them out.
Incredible cookies with a very fun selection of flavors. The cookies are worth the type and pretty unique compared to other cookoe places. Each cookie is very thick, moist, and filled with melted chocolate. Very sweet but in the best way. Excited to try their ice cream sandwiches. Very friendly service. It's clean, and they have both nice indoor and outdoor seating.
First visit in a while, ready for a new assessment. Early morning visit, a little after 8am, and all 3 cookies were big, warm, and visually enticing. Most importantly, none of them had the greasiness of the first few visits. -- Two Chip Chocolate Chip Cookie: Believe it or not, there is such a thing as too much chocolate. I wanted to taste the dough too, but the gooey chocolatey meltiness dominated. Once cooled, the dough flavor was more discernable and nicely buttery. Good cookie, but gimme 20% fewer chips and I'll give you 40% more love. -- Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookie: I was bracing myself for chocolate overload, but this was actually more balanced than the chocolate chip. This one had more of a brownie flavor to the base, with little extra bursts of chocolate from the chips. Excellent. -- Oatmeal Raisin Cookie: The unsung hero. Even though I didn't get much oatmeal flavor, still a delicious base, and the raisins were soft and moderately sweet. A good one to have with coffee and probably my favorite of the bunch. Friendly staff. No toilet. Stool seating for four, with a few tables outside. If you're into cookies, this is a must-visit, and don't worry about the price. The cookies are large enough and rich enough that they're best shared. You probably couldn't (and shouldn't) eat two whole ones in one sitting.
Cool bakery with amazing desserts. Service was quick and cookies were delicious. The line was moving the entire time in the store so there wasn't any type of long wait.
First time at levain and I'm sold that they are the best cookies ever! So perfectly sweet and crispy on the outside while soft gooey on the inside. Seriously, so good I ended up buying 3 more just to take back home to enjoy later. My fav was the classic chocochip walnut!
This place is amazing! We ordered through Uber Eats and the cookies still arrived warm. The chocolate chip cookie was honestly one of the best I've ever had -perfectly soft, gooey, and full of chocolate. The lemon cookie was also really good with a fresh bright flavor. Highly recommend!
I love Levain Bakery.. so I was more than happy to see one in Boston when we came to visit. When we went, there was a bit of a waiting line (maybe 6~8 people in front of us), but the line went by fairly quickly. The space is small and no place to sit. I ordered a simple chocolate chip cookie and it was just as I remembered their cookies to me: delicious. A bit crispy on the edges and soft on the inside. It is definitely a bit of a dense cookie, so one cookie was enough for me to share with my husband. read more

I knew I made the right choice to move to Boston when they opened Levain here. Executed just as great as the location in New York where I first tried it. It has been my favorite cookie spot since 2018, with its crunchy exterior and decadent chewy interior. Two chocolate chip, chocolate chip walnut, and dark chocolate chip cookies are top tier!! I like to enjoy it with a warm cup of tea, soy milk, or black coffee depending on the time of day! read more
I didn't have a chance to try Levain Bakery while visiting New York, so I can't speak to how this location holds up to "the original". What I *can* speak to is how it knocked my socks off regardless. The cookies live up to the hype. This spot is is located on Newbury Street, which becomes a lively, pedestrian-only area on Sundays. Perfect location for grabbing an outdoor table, soaking up the sunlight, and people-watching with a treat in hand. There was a line that just barely went out the door when I visited around 2 pm on a Sunday. I placed and received my order within 15 minutes. The cookies come out warm, so give them a taste while they're at peak freshness! All their cookies are huge, thick, and gooey without feeling undercooked. And don't get me started on their buttery, crispy edges. Not to be dramatic, but it's a bit of a textural masterpiece. As for my order, I enjoyed the... - Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookie: This one's their signature, and one I'd recommend if you're feeling indecisive. It's got enough semi-sweet chocolate chips to sort out your chocolate cravings for the day, and the chunks of walnuts add the perfect bit of textural intrigue. - Caramel Coconut Chocolate Chip Cookie: My favorite of the ones I've tried! Adding shredded coconut to a cookie of this thickness makes for a treat that's reminiscent of a coconut macaroon--only 10 times better. The gooey caramel chips and dark chocolate are to thank for that. - Rocky Road Cookie: I can see why this is a summer exclusive. The combo of chocolate chips and marshmallow pieces make this a cookie fit for any bonfire. Similarly to the Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookie, sliced almonds only elevate the texture. I enjoyed the dark chocolate base and found the overall cookie to be just as balanced as the others. - Banana Chocolate Chip Slice: As a lover of banana bread, this may be the best I've had. The prominent flavor of fresh banana makes for love at first bite. Plus, the semi-sweet chocolate chips give it an addictive quality without detracting from its banana flavor. In summary... don't walk. Run! Whether you're a visitor or a local, this spot should be on your dessert hit-list. Take my word and thank me later. read more

Thank you for the glowing review. We're thrilled to hear you enjoyed…
Am I a weirdo for liking the cookie more than the chocolate? Was very excited to know that Levain has arrived in Boston after hearing from my friend that these were the best cookies she's ever eaten. I came on the second day of opening (Sunday) before 12pm and there was only a very short line but the next day I passed by and saw that the line had tripled, almost wrapping past the end of the street. Everyone was super nice and asked if we had any questions. I decided to get five cookies - one for myself and four for my friend. What I don't really understand is how or when some people received boxes versus the little paper sack. I originally thought I would get my cookies boxed and into a logo bag but it ended up being a sack instead. Cookies are almost $5 each and high is a little pricey but they are high quality and even coffee / bubble tea is more expensive than that nowadays, so it's not too outrageous. I had the double chocolate chip right away and was glad to see they were still warm, crispy on the outside and moist / gooey on the inside. I'm not a huge sweets person so I wish they had cut back on the sugar, but my friend who ate them many hours later said they were "unreal", so take my opinion with a grain of salt! I wish there were non- chocolate cookie options. They do have one - an oatmeal raisin but I hate raisins, so that doesn't leave me with much choice. read more

Personally, I don't think the chocolate chip cookie was worth the hype! I've heard about these cookies for a while so I thought I'd go try them. The first few bites of the walnut chocolate chip cookie were great but it becomes overwhelmingly decadent quickly. They also don't reheat well at home. The storefront is charming and the line moves quickly. You can see the baking area which adds to the charm and ambiance of the store. read more

I am a HUGE dessert person and if I could, I would smother myself with Levain. I've tried all the cookies there and they are all so good. Some of them are really super sweet like the double chocolate, but the rest are just super sweet (I have a huge sweet tooth and these are still sweet BUT not to the point of disgust. It's just right!). I also tried the gluten-free one just to try and if you like a semi undercooked cookie texture, you should get it! They are always super busy but the employees are still very efficient and nice. The place itself isn't too big but they have a couple of chairs outside to vibe on Newbury Street. I've got it delivered and ordered in person and there is no difference :) read more
Update: the walnut chip is actually my favorite. Loved it, and it used the right kind of chocolate for sure and didn't have too many chocolate chips to cookie ratio. But really they should just have a regular chocolate chip option. That would be best of both worlds. read more

Saw the line on Newbury Street and had to get in line to try it. I have had it in New York but this was my first time at the Boston location. The line moves very quickly. They have a beautiful and colorful mural map of Boston on the right side when you enter. You see the entire kitchen and all cookies are $5 with a thick size and depth in height. The double chocolate is my favorite. They give you a card that tells you how to reheat or store the cookie after the first day, which I appreciated. read more
I had Levain cookies years ago in NYC, and I'm so happy we have a location in Boston on Newbury! This is a must try if you're into desserts. They are famous for their big, thick, warm, and gooey cookies. I tried the chocolate chip walnut and dark chocolate chocolate chip cookies. The chocolate chip walnut is a classic. The chocolate chips are halfway melted and distributed nicely throughout the whole cookies. I wasn't as much of a fan of the dark chocolate chocolate chip due to the texture -- more grainy instead of soft and gooey. These will fill you up! $5 per cookie as of 10/2022. They have other items on the menu, but their cookies are the stars. If you have more than one cookie, they can be packed nice and securely in a box for safe transport. There will likely be a long line, but it moves quickly. Limited seating outside and small store. Beautiful storefront with flowers and mural as decor. read more
Truly a treat grabbing cookies from Levain. The location is in a great spot, and the service matched the vibe. They have a cute menu display right outside the store with their staple flavors, which I thought was super convenient. As soon as you walk in, the smell of the cookies take over, be careful as you'll probably want to buy the whole store lol. I restrained myself and decided to only buy ONE cookie, the chocolate chip and walnut kind. The cookie resemble a very large biscuit, but the size of the cookie makes up for the price, which is a bit costly. Undoubtedly, you get what you pay for. The exterior is ultimately crispy with an interior that is incredibly gooey soft. For some reason, I detected a faint background flavor note of coconut and was not fond of it. However, overall, a very decadent cookie. If you decide to stop by, you won't regret it. read more
There is nothing more toxic than a dry chocolate chip cookie. I'm not talking about one of those little cheap Chips Ahoy cookies. Those are a dime a dozen. I'm talking about that single gourmet cookie you see sitting in a display case next to several other posh pastries and uppity baked goods. That cookie that deceptively lures you in with sweet promises of transporting you to a higher existence where butter, sugar, and chocolate live in harmony and have the sole purpose of making love to all of your five senses with a single bite. Then after you fall for that sh*t and put your entire heart into taking the first bite the experience ends up being more like a lonely crawl for survival through the desert as you desperately search for something to drink in order to wash this dry-ass cookie down and get the taste of the whole situation out of your mouth. This is a long way of saying, "I've been hurt before. It was a horrible experience. I don't talk about it often. But, I'm in the process of healing." So, since I'm a hopeless romantic and don't learn from my mistakes, yesterday I found myself standing in line at Levain Bakery peering shyly at one of their highly-praised chocolate chip cookies. It appeared very thick and dense, like a scone. And being a little larger than the palm of my hand I couldn't imagine anything with that much volume not needing to be over-baked to ensure the center was cooked. So, I imagined that this cookie would be more like eating a box of biscuits from Popeyes without the proper beverage. However, despite these red flags, the smell of fresh baked cookies coming from the oven enticed me to let my guard down just enough to make a purchase. As I walked out of the bakery and felt the cookie's warmth radiate through the bag, I felt something I hadn't felt in years. The slight tickle of butterflies. I sat outside, placed the bag on my lap, and decided to confirm my negative suspicions by breaking the cookie in half. I expected it to snap and crumble like biscotti, but to my surprise, it didn't. Once I broke past the crispy exterior it slowly opened to reveal a tender and chocolatey inside. My eyes got wide, followed by my mouth as I took my first bite. Now I won't go into detail about what happened next, because I was raised to believe that a true gentleman does not talk about "it". But, I will say that it was beautiful, it was unexpected, and it was extremely satisfying. I woke this morning without a single feeling of regret or shame, but I did have one thought. "I think I'm ready to love again." read more

So I was so stoked to hear there was a bakery walking distance from my hotel. Our last day in Boston, I made sure to wake up and grab some goodies before flying back home. Their cookies are to die for- so choc filled with luxurious chocolate chips that you'll try to stop from eating the whole thing because you think it's the "right" thing to do... but eventually you'll tell yourself you don't want to be right and devour the entire cookie lol. I really wish one would open up in Orlando. I think they would do great! read more

Fresh Gooey chocolate chip cookies... say less. The chocolate chip cookie is iconic here and for good reason. Thick and delicious, perfect for a cooler day! Pretty large cookies, I ended up splitting one with my boyfriend and I don't think I could of finished a full one. They taste homemade and I am one to appreciate a undercooked cookie. My FAVORITE cookie bakery!!! I would not pay $5 for a cookie anywhere else but these are absolutely amazing! The double chocolate chip cookie is a rich, delicious treat -- the melted chocolate oozes into your mouth and the thick cookie is not overly sweet so you can eat it happily. Also would definitely recommend the chocolate peanut butter cookie if you are a peanut butter fan like me -- even the peanut butter is thick and rich! Lines are long but they move fast so you'll only have to wait 10-20 minutes. There's no seating but an amazing treat to bring home as a snack! read more

I heard the hype for weeks and just had to see for myself. And Wow just WOW! These are some darn good cookies. There was a pretty long line outside but it moved quickly; I wasn't in line for more than 7 mins. This quick turn over also meant that you were getting the freshest warm cookies. Though these cookies are $5 a piece they are total worth it! They're pretty big and they are THICK. The outside has a good crunch well the inside is soft and gooey with an abundance of melted chocolate chips. I got two chocolate walnut (cause they're my absolute fave) and i put one in the fridge to have the next day; i popped it in the microwave for 40 secs and it was a good as they were when fresh. Impressive! I would only dock 1/2 a stars because they don't have more cookie flavours. read more
My first time trying Levain cookies was in NY and when they opened one in Boston I was so excited! They did not disappoint, it taste just as good as the ones in NY. I would recommend eating them when they are warm or hot. You could eat them at room temperature, but I like them just out the over. The texture is so chewy and delicious with every bite. I love when cookies are chewy and soft not hard and crunchy lol. Definitely need to try! read more

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts, Laryan! We're glad…
I am so glad they opened a Levain in Boston! The BEST cookies I've had in my life. No joke. They are delicious, gooey, and the portion size is extremely generous. I honestly can't think of a flaw. The cookies are about $5, but the cookie is about 3 servings, IMO, so EXTREMELY worth it. My boyfriend and I ordered the Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookie, Two Chip Chocolate Chip Cookie and the Banana Chocolate Chip Bread. When I initially heard about this bakery, I thought it would be like any other bakery I had previously been to, but I was very wrong. Not only is their food amazing, but their customer service as well. All the workers were very kind and friendly. There was a line, but it moved very quickly. One con is that there is no indoor or outdoor seating. You MUST try this bakery! It will not disappoint. Overall rating 10/10 read more
Chocolate chip cookies are one of my favorite desserts, so I knew I had to try levain. The cookies here are huge and can easily be a meal in itself! I ordered the chocolate chip walnut and the rocky road. The chocolate chip cookie had plenty of chocolate chips in it. These cookies could definitely be split among multiple people. If it had been warm and fresh out of the oven, I would have given it 5 stars! read more
