Now I understand the hype! These cookies are beyond amazing. It has the perfect crispiness-to-gooeyness ratio that cannot be beat. When I first entered the bakery I wasn't sure what to get, but the friendly cashier recommended the two chip chocolate chip cookie which is now my favorite thing in existence. I took a seat to eat these outside their beautiful floral awning and had a great time eating and people watching on Newbury St. read more

Levain Bakery - Back Bay, Boston - Two chip chocolate chip cookie - Bakeries Near Me - Boston, Massachusetts

Whether you prefer chewy, crispy, gooey, or fudgy cookies, imagine if you could have all those textures in one bite... The quality of cookies here are on par with their locations in NYC. As of when this review is written (April 2023) the cookies are $5 each. It sounds pricey, but they're huge! I was especially impressed by how quickly the line moved. The employees were friendly yet super efficient. There is also a decent amount of outdoor seating when the weather is nice. The chocolate chip walnut is a classic but my new favorite might be their dark chocolate peanut butter chip. This is a great cookie for peanut butter lovers because it's packed with peanut butter chips! read more

It's a good thing... Really a 3.5, incredibly expensive. I don't know if it's really a cookie though. A brownie-ish? Scone-like thingy. Very tasty. VERY expensive. It's giant like Chip City or Crumble but definitely better ingredients/inclusions. Tough dropping $7 on a cookie that costs probably $1.25 though. read more

While walking Newbury Street I came across this popular bakery... having seen lines outside of it at other locations, but never going in, I went in this time because there was no line. The smell inside was amazing! I wish I could take a pic of the smell alone!! Service was quick and friendly and I ordered a slice of banana chocolate bread. The slice was thick and the bread was moist and tasted amazing!! read more

I love Levain, and this Newbury Street location is fantastic! The bakery itself is very nice inside, the line moves quickly, and the staff are super friendly. It's also in a great location, which makes it easy to stop by while exploring the area. I really appreciate that there are spots to sit and enjoy your delicious cookies right there. Definitely a great stop in Boston! read more

Came here on a Sunday afternoon and there was a small line, but I was still in and out within a few minutes. The indoor space is rather small and a little cramped, but they have outdoor seating for when the weather is nice. I opted to buy their cookies as I know they're famous for them - I got two and while they were pretty pricy, they were very delicious. I loved their classic best out of the two, but I would gladly eat the chocolatey one again - great cookie texture and packed with a ton of toppings to make it wonderfully sweet. Levain is honestly a pretty good staple for Newbury and I would recommend buying any of their pastries when walking by if you are in the mood for something sweet! I can't wait to try more of their desserts and maybe even drinks in the future! read more

These cookies are worth every penny they are so big and the perfect sweet treat. I was actually not feeling very well when we stopped by but there is not much these little beauties couldn't cure. The cookies are amazing and huge! To this day, they are the best cookies I've ever tried. I'll be honest, their coffee is just okay. But I'll give them a pass since that is not their specialty. Service is friendly but a little more attention to detail would be nice. I ordered my cappuccino with skim milk and got one with oat milk. Not a big deal for me since I like both types but that could be a dealbreaker for people with dietary restrictions. read more

I'm obsessed with Levain, so when I saw there was one in Boston about half a mile from our hotel, everyone knew that we were going to make a visit. There was a short line when we went in a Saturday around 11:30 but we waited no longer than 10 minutes. No indoor or outdoor dining. You have the option to get a box or a bag for the cookies. Credit cards are accepted. Definitely get the chocolate chip walnut - they're classic and oh so gooey and soft in the inside. The two chip cookie is the same cookie without walnuts, but I think I appreciate the crunch. If you're really a Cookie Monster, the double chocolate chip cookie is sure to knock your socks off. read more

I didn't even know this bakery existed until I smelled the deliciousness from a block away. There was a line, but the multiple staff they have working there makes the wait go by in a pinch. It's clearly a well-oiled machine. Cookies run you about 5 bucks a piece, but they are so dense that it's worth it. I opted for the double chocolate peanut butter cookie, which was moist, thick, and pretty sweet (but not overly too sweet to give you a headache). I also tried the chocolate brioche (I saw them making some fresh ones and gave in to my temptation) and they are huge and filling -- definitely enough for two people to share one. It is served warm which is a delight. I'll definitely be coming back here during a pause from shopping. It was truly superb! read more

Fantastic cookies. Honestly some of the best I've ever had. If you've been to the NYC locations, you don't have to worry, the quality is the same. Came here with a friend and I got an oatmeal raisin cookie, while he got the chocolate chip (that I got a bite of). Both were just so good. I wish I had more right now. My only complain is how small the cafe is. Really not much seating at all, so definitely a grab n go experience. Service was fast and friendly. Will definitely be back (again). read more

Some of the best cookies I have ever eaten. The dark chocolate peanut butter one was incredible as was the smores cookie in dark chocolate. We got three cookies and the bag was so heavy because the cookies are so big and thick. We ate our cookies and delicious coffee on Newbury Street at a table. Wonderful service. Best cookies ever. Carrying the bag around after we at one, we could not finish all three, everyone kept telling us these are the best cookies. read more

I visited Levain Bakery, while visiting friends in New York. They highly recommended their cookies and said that people wait an hour in line every Sunday just to get them. Levain Bakery - Back Bay, Boston - This sweet treat arrived in the mail! - Bakeries Near Me - Boston, Massachusetts

I dropped by right before catching a plane as I've heard all the hype around this bakery but never got around to trying it. I planned on flying these back as a lil treat to share with my girlfriend. I came in the morning and the line wasn't bad and moved pretty fast. I ordered a dark choco and peanut butter cookie as I don't like nuts in cookies. The cookies were a bit cold when I bit into them at the store but I could tell that they were going to be good. I could feel a solid crunch on the outter layer and a gooey center even though the cookies were cold. I saved them until after the flight to share with my girlfriend. Once home, we air fried the cookies and man they were good. I like soft cookies and my girlfriend likes crispy and these were the best of both worlds. It's tastes so rich and decadent but not overly sweet. I don't have bakery cookies too often but these were probably the best I've ever had. It's like a crispy cookie and a underbaked brownie had a baby. There's lots of copycat recipes so I'll probably try to recreate these with my girlfriend too. Honestly these days, bakery items are pretty pricy so I wouldn't say these cookies are priced unfairly. For the taste and amount you get, definitely a worthy purchase. read more

Levain produces the perfect cookie. It's large, gooey in the center, crisp on the outside. The one you need to get (unless you have a nut aversion) is the chocolate chip walnut. All of them are good, but this Levain classic is simply the best. After visiting Levain locations in NYC, we were SO excited to welcome the bakery to Boston! And I'm delighted to report that the high quality came with them. They scored a perfect location right on Newbury Street. When we arrived on a chilly Saturday around 3pm, there was a line down the block, but it moved quickly, and we had our order in hand in just about 15 minutes. In addition to their famous cookies, they also offer beverages and other baked goods like bread and pastries. I ordered a Valhrona hot chocolate with oat milk which was super yummy - I would def get this again. We also grabbed a slice of banana chocolate chip bread and a cinnamon brioche for Sunday breakfast. The staff were friendly and speedy - truly stellar service! The cookies were warm, so we dug right in as soon as we left, and the ooey gooey goodness is just on another level. Levain has earned its popularity, and if you're a cookie lover, you haven't lived until you've tried these! Don't let the long line deter you; head on over to Newbury, and take a bite. read more

Somebody else bought me a cookie from here so I've never actually been inside, but I can say the cookies are DELICIOUS. I had never been because I didn't know they had a vegan option, but it turns out they have a vegan and gluten free chocolate chip walnut cookie! The cookie was HUGE, crunchy on the outside and soft-ish on the inside. The texture was a little bit odd and not really chewy, probably because it was gluten free, but still tasted incredible. It also came wrapped in a cute holiday themed bag. Highly recommend for vegans with a sweet tooth like me :) read more

OK, so I've heard many people rave about the cookies at Levain. And I've had them from New York before. However when I went in store at the Boston Newberry location I came across an incredible new pastry that caught my eye. It was the cinnamon brioche! It was both feeling airy and some points but thick as well. It was the same price as the cookies. Next time, I want to try the cinnamon chocolate chip brioche. I just visited Levain Bakery and got their "Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookie" and "Banana Chocolate Bread". The cookie was absolutely delicious, literally unlike anything I've tried before. I fell in love with Levain many years ago when I lived in NYC. I would take special trips to the Upper West Side to get their gigantic, delicious cookies. When I found out that Levain was opening in Boston, I was ecstatic and have been following the story/opening the whole time. Cut to opening weekend - I was busy on Saturday, but made a special trip into the city on Sunday to walk around. JK - the trip was really for Levain and then I did some stuff afterwards because I had already made the drive and parallel parked my way into Back Bay. The line was longer than I thought it would be at around 2:30 PM, but I was undeterred. The line actually got longer when I was in it. I waited for about 30-35 minutes until I was up at the counter and ready to give my order. They were running a tight ship - lots of people moving cookies around and taking orders - it seemed like a well oiled machine. Anyway - I got 3 chocolate chip walnut cookies and 2 oatmeal raisin. Those flavors were always my favorite in NYC. They did not disappoint! My boyfriend (who did not really want to wait in line for 30 minutes for cookies) said afterwards that it was worth the wait. I gave him a 1.25 cookies for his troubles! Lol. Both the chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin cookies were as good as I remembered - large bricks of cookie that were crispy on the outside and softer in the middle. It's a couple days later and I put half a cookie in the microwave for a few seconds - just as good! The cookies are $4.50 each, which is worth it for such a large, yummy treat. While Levain offers other pastries, breads and coffee, I've never tried anything else besides the cookies, Cookies, COOKIES! I'm sure they'll do just fine on Newbury Street. I know I'll be a regular! read more

I usually don't end up liking most of the must-try for tourist places in Boston, but this one was an exception. I rarely even eat cookies, but after sampling a few of Levain's cookies, I couldn't stop. They were so addicting and probably some of the best cookies I've had. read more

I was excited to finally try the infamous Levain Bakery. As a child I've always wanted to try these cookies after watching them on the Food Network Channel. I was satisfied. The establishment was busy and it was close to closing. My cookie was still fresh despite the time but not as warm as I would have liked it. However, it was a solid walnut chocolate chip cookie. I would certainly go again but would try another flavor. The ambiance was hustle bustle. Not too much but simple. read more

Comparing this to the Levain in New York I'd say the edge goes to the New York branch slightly. The cookies were warmer and just a little more satisfying there but it could very well be chalked up to the busy bustle of their grand opening. As others have said, be warned; their cookies are SWEET. But if melts, sweet, buttery cookies is your thing then wait in the gargantuan line for your slice of heaven. WOWOWOWOOWOW. I had heard these cookies were life changing so I had to try! Yesterday was a super sunny and beautiful saturday on newbury. The line at Levain appeared very long, but it went quickly! We got one chocolate chip walnut cookie and one oatmeal raisin cookie. They are GIANT, gooey, and warm. I took two bites and was instantly full. They were both fantastic. Usually Im more of a chocolate chip gal, and while the chocolate chip was incredible, the oatmeal raisin was the BEST oatmeal raisin cookie I've ever had. At least two servings per cookie, these are worth the $4.50! I just finished my cookie from yesterday and it was still super soft. Amazing. read more

Pro tip: come on a weekday and avoid the line! On a Tuesday morning I was able to basically waltz right up to the counter. The service was extremely nice and friendly, and it's cool to be able to see them baking the cookies in the ovens in the back. I ordered a few of every flavor of cookie to bring to my coworkers, and they packaged up each flavor nicely into its own labeled box. We all agreed that the cookies themselves were delicious! Everyone raves about the chocolate chip walnut, but my favorite was actually their oatmeal raisin. All in all, worth the hype, in my opinion. As soon as I saw a Levain bakery opened up in Boston, I had to go! Let me first say, yes, the cookies did live up to the hype. The cookies are huge and filled with chocolate chips and walnuts. The ratio of the batter and the chocolate chips and walnuts was perfect. The chips were ooey gooey, but not to the point where you didn't see the chip shape. I took a cookie breaking video but can't post it, but trust, it showed how ooey gooey it was Personally, I think 1 cookie is enough since it's pretty rich and big, but if you have a big sweet tooth, you might want to get more. I got the classic chocolate chip and walnut and my friend got the fall edition which tasted like a gingerbread cookie. I will definitely be going back to try the other flavors! read more

Levain has some of the best cookies ever in my opinion. When you order them in store they always come warm and fresh. They are crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside when warm-almost to the point of being uncooked which I love. Super thick. They used to only have 3 flavors but recently added a bunch more. The classic chocolate with walnuts is definitely a must though. Employees are really friendly. Sometimes there will be a pretty long line but they keep it moving fast so don't be intimidated by that. One delicious cookie. I can see why there is so much hype behind them. At $4 a cookie, they aren't cheap but they are massive cookies. The chocolate chip cookie was incredibly rich - your senses just get overwhelmed by chocolate and butter. I could only take down half of one before needing a break. I also tried the blueberry muffin which was mostly a cornbread muffin. Wish there were more blueberries inside. I was surprised to see they also offered loaves of bread for sale. Cookies are my favorite dessert, so I'm thrilled Levain has finally come to Boston! I've had their cookies in NYC and even stocked up on their frozen collection from Whole Foods before, but eating them fresh is true perfection. Today was their grand opening, and my partner and I bought one of each cookie, though today's review is specifically for the dark chocolate peanut butter chip cookie - TASTE: 5/5 - the perfect combo of dark chocolate and peanut butter, and not overwhelmingly sweet TEXTURE: 5/5 - the cookies are so thick and the crispy exterior but soft, chewy consistency inside is my favorite! PRICE: 4/5 - I sample a lot of chunky cookies, so I'm used to the $4+ price SERVING SIZE: 5/5 - the cookies are characteristically huge at 6oz each SERVICE: 5/5 - waited in line for 20 minutes, which I expected for opening day. Ordering inside was quick and we waited a few minutes for our box of cookies, thanks to their well staffed team!
