Really good Vietnamese place in the Cambridge that is well priced and has large portions. My girlfriend and I were craving pho and came here on a Wednesday evening. The restaurant is located inside an indoor plaza in Harvard Square. We came in and it was completely packed, but there was so much seating at the same time. The service here was great and we got our food in a decent time frame. I prefer my beef to be cooked well done and they were able to accommodate my request. The tendon was fantastic! The broth was also delicious and the bean sprouts were so tasty and added a nice bite to the soup. The menu here is extensive and there are many pho soups to choose from. We also tried the spring rolls in an umami peanut sauce, I wasn't a huge fan but my girlfriend loved them. Le's is the only reliablely decent Vietnamese restaurant in Cambridge. It's located inside a small shopping area. There is public street parking available, which may be hard to find during peak hours. It's pretty big inside and has a lot of seating. I've been here many times and there's never a wait. The interior is a bit dated, but clean. Each table has a bottle of hoisin sauce and hot sauce (chili oil available if you ask). The dishes are generally about $16 per person. I recommend the vermicelli and pho dishes, especially the house pho and #33 (vermicelli with 1 fried egg roll, 2 pieces of shrimp, veggies, and some beef). For appetizers, the Vietnamese spring rolls with shrimp and Japanese eggplant (a little oily) are delicious. The service was quick, dishes started coming out without 5 minutes. The shrimp was nicely grilled, the pork was flavorful, and the spring roll was up to par. However, the protein to vermicelli ratio felt a little uneven, with a bit too much plain noodle. I used to love this place because they had tendon in their pho and because it's conveniently located in the square, but in the past few years, the service has been not great and the food has been only ok. Their pho is still fine, but the noodles in their vermicelli bowls are often overcooked and mushy to the point where you get 1-2 inch noodle pieces instead of noodles of normal noodle length. I'd stick to their pho even though they sometimes skimp on the bean sprout and herb veggie add-on plate. A few times, especially when going with larger groups, they've gotten parts of our order wrong and still charged us for the wrong items even after we brought it to their attention. They've served bowls of soup to customers after other plates or their fingers have gone into the soup when trying to carry too many dishes at once. Sure, the edges/bottoms of the plates and their fingers are probably mostly clean, but it still feels careless and unhygienic. Unfortunately I got sick after eating the pho here with the raw meat. My pho wasn't super hot so I think the meat didn't reach a temperature that was safe. I ate the pieces that seemed the most cooked and I shouldn't have. Some still looked pink by the end of my dinner. The unfortunate thing was the food tasted good otherwise and the service was good. It is located on a side street with limited street parking. I ordered a beef soup. The waiter asked me if I like tendon. I did not realize it but that was the type of meat in the soup. Additionally, I thought the broth was salty. So much for understanding the menu. The restaurant was pretty busy for a Sunday morning. I've been a loyal customer for 10+ years but the place has really started to go down hill. This has been the best Vietnamese in Cambridge and maybe Boston. But my last 3 times getting food have been awful. There was a slug in my watercress! The staff did not wash the veggies enough. Most recently I found bits of burnt paper and long white paper strips in one of their beef dishes. Absolutely disgusting. Finally, a lot of the staff now smoke. This is a huge red flag. You cannot run a restaurant while your servers and cooks smoke on their breaks. The second hand smoke gets into the food and drinks. Absolutely disgusting again. Please please prioritize hygiene. The prices here are quite reasonable (small size pho is around $10-11) and you can upgrade to large or XL sizes. I wouldn't necessarily come here if I had a craving for pho though. I remember being a fan of this place when I first visited in 2018, but after my recent visit I think the quality went down. I got their special beef noodle soup which comes with a little bit of every cut of meat (rare eye round, flank, brisket, tripe, tendon). By "a little bit," I really mean a little bit-- there was probably one piece of each type of meat in the broth. They did not give us any sauces at the table and the broth was quite underseasoned, so the meat did not have much flavor. This was the most watered down pho broth I've had. The broth lacked the aroma from various spices that pho broth usually has. The noodle portion was on the smaller side for what I've encountered in different pho shops. I was equally disappointed by their hue special soup dish (I'm guessing it's supposed to be like a bun bo hue). Again, there wasn't that much meat and the broth lacked flavor. Le's was great! Dining method: Delivery (DoorDash) Speed: Not bad, about 45 minutes. Review: The pho/noodle soup was delicious and the summer rolls (rice paper wrapper rolls) come at a great price. The peanut sauce was delicious. The Hoisin sauce with the pho had SOMETHING special because it was addictive! The tofu pho came with fried tofu, which I hadn't seen before but was still great! (Cannot speak to the ambiance because it was takeout.) Will absolutely be ordering from here again! Things to note: - The "noodle soup" is pho. - If you buy two soups (takeout) they will combine all of the toppings and such for all of the meals ordered, such that you have to divy them up yourself, bean sprout by bean sprout. - They might not label the food, they didn't for ours, and it was a mystery as to which broth was the vegetarian one. We went to this place because the menu posted on the front window looked very legit. When we walked in, the waitress, who was still wearing a mask, had plenty of tables towards the front of the place decided to put us way in the back at a tiny table for 4 people. The table was wobbly and I refused. She looked pissed and told me not to mess up her procedures. I told her nope I want the other table. She had to give it to me. Then, she never went to take our order. We had to flag down another waiter to take our food. Meanwhile, 2 ladies walked in and that waitress gave them the same size 4 person table In nice spot in the corner. She brought out menus for the 2 ladies while 4 of us had to use the stupid QR code to pull up the menus. The other waiter was very nice. We ordered 2 orders of vietnames eggrolls, which the description indicated that they were super legit, made with rice paper skin, not wheat like Chinese eggrolls. We ordered Banh Xeo, papaya salad and pho special. They gave us the banh xeo, papaya salad and pho. We started eating those and noticed the banh xeo was extremely coconut heavy flavored. This is not how banh xeo was supposed to be. The pho was very decent, however, and so was the papaya salad. After waited for a while we asked the waitress again about the eggrolls. Later on, another waitress came out and said they were sorry but they had so many take out orders that they are running behind on eggrolls. It will take a while to get our order. This was when we said just cancel the order, we paid and left. Overall impression was not good. The only good person there was the non-Vietnamese waiter. The others were terrible with customer skill, logical reasoning and basically critical thinking. Well, I'm going to be in Boston quite a bit but never again will I go here. read more

Some decently authentic and hearty Vietnamese food that is unfortunately marred by poor service. We went for Sunday lunch at around 2pm and the restaurant was completely packed with only 3 servers working the entire restaurant. Although the servers were doing their best, we didnt get our water until after all of our food had already arrived. With that being said, our food came quite quickly despite the chaos in the restaurant. The wonton soup was warm and comforting -- exactly what I was hoping for! The wonton skin was a little thick for my liking so I picked off the meatier pieces. The Vietnamese crepe had a mochi-like texture that was completely unexpected. There wasn't much flavor but when you dipped some pieces in fish sauce it made for a very yummy bite! My friend got the beef pho which she said was very tasty and quite authentic. Come here knowing that you're here for the food! If you care more for a more relaxed, quiet dining experience though, Le's may not be the best option. read more

Great Vietnamese food, and of all the Le's chains I think the Cambridge location is the best. Food I've tried: (* = my favorite) - EXTRA LARGE BEEF NOODLE SOUP ($14.50): the portioning is huge, making it a great value for the price. The rice noodle is nice and chewy, the meat is plentiful and tender. The broth is rich and well seasoned. One of my favorite pho's in Boston. - CARAMALIZED FISH (CATFISH) ($14): you can choose between catfish and salmon, and the dish comes with a bowl of rice. The catfish was extremely tender and not at all overcooked. There was a sweet glaze that went well with the delicate flavors of the fish as well as the starchiness of the rice. - EGG SODA ($4.50): tastes like carbonated egg whites. Not too sweet. Though if you don't like the flavor of raw eggs, I don't think you'll enjoy this drink. Atmosphere: - Located inside the Garage, the lighting is pretty dim. The place is usually not very crowded, and I have not found noise to be an issue.
