Lunch with the family at Les Deux Magots was one of the highlights of our Paris trip. The food and service were excellent, but dining at the same legendary café where Ernest Hemingway, Pablo Picasso, and so many great writers and artists once gathered made the experience unforgettable. If you're in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, this iconic Paris café is a must-visit.

My family and I stopped at Les Deux Magots for lunch on a Saturday while exploring Saint-Germain. The restaurant was bustling, but we were seated fairly quickly after a short wait. The staff was attentive, helpful, and spoke English, which made the experience easy and comfortable. Our food arrived quickly, and overall, everything was good. It is a bit on the pricey side, but that's to be expected given the location and its popularity. It's definitely a touristy spot, but still worth the visit for the atmosphere and quality of the food. I would recommend it to anyone strolling through Saint-Germain looking for a classic Paris café experience.

Popular for a reason! Despite being on the pricier end and being a tourist attraction, Les Deux Magots boasts a large menu selection with high quality food and friendly staff. The restaurant is usually always packed with a line of people waiting to get in. Luckily, we had a reservation for 1pm on a Monday, so we were able to get seated right away. The staff here all speak English, and there is an English menu (as well as an online menu where you can translate to Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, and Japanese). We sat in the indoor area with the clear roof, so the bright sky was shining in. We started off with the burgundy escargot and foie gras with caramelized pear. The escargot were very fresh and chewy, and paired great with the pesto and olive oil mixture (which is also delicious to dip the bread in). The foie gras was incredibly tender and soft, quite literally melting in our mouths. Super high quality stuff, and not to mention, a surprisingly great combination with the sweetness of the pears. For the main entrees, we had the lobster pasta with shellfish cream and capon with mushroom (both from the Christmas special menu) and the veal (from the regular menu). I will say, there was some waiting time between the appetizer and main courses, but nothing to fret about. Docking off a star (more like half a star if Yelp did half stars) for this since it's not the quickest service to be honest. While we waited, we sipped on a cappuccino and the hot chocolate. The cappuccino is what you'd typically expect, and the hot chocolate has a super thick consistency, reminiscent of the Spanish hot chocolates you dip your churros in. Starting with the lobster pasta, the lobster was pretty tender and the pasta was al dente. I'd probably expect a larger portion for the pasta to be honest. The capon had a crispy skin and a soft interior which was super easy to cut with a knife. Very tender and I wish they gave more mushrooms! The veal was a show stopper, incredibly tender and perfectly medium rare. A very enjoyable meal and worth a try!

Classic, Touristy, and Surprisingly Good Is this place touristy? Yes. Is it historical? Yes. Is it fun? Absolutely. Is it tasty? Also yes. It's one of those must-try-once spots in Paris, and honestly, the food was much better than I expected for such a touristy location. We started with two St. Germain spritzes--because, well, we were on St. Germain! Then came the foie gras pâté and steak tartare with frites, both of which were delicious. No worries here about sketchy raw beef--everything was fresh and well-prepared. Then we couldn't resist getting a chocolate mousse after seeing our neighboring table digging in and ooohing and aaahing about it. :D Service was attentive and friendly and everything was delicious. Would I go back? Maybe--not as a destination restaurant, but definitely as a nice stop for drinks or snacks while shopping. And with Louis Vuitton right next door, it's hard to resist a little post-retail pick-me-up.

Croissants are terrible! Not fresh, not flakey. I should have never bought 2 assuming it was going to be good. Double espresso is good.

I expected good croissants and espresso. Coffee was good, croissants were Terrible! They are not fresh, tasted like a Costco U.S. mass produced frozen and thawed croissant. Don't waste your money. Living on name and length of time they have been open.

Definitely one of the best croissants I've ever had. We had a short 10 minute wait in a line in front of the restaurant for a table outside. Many people were having bread and butter and the hot chocolate! We for le clasique which came with bread and butter, a small pot of hot chocolate and a croissant priced at 14 euro! It's a lively cafe with breakfast options like omelets and other pastries. Worth a try if you're nearby!

Let me start by saying this was the best hot chocolate I've ever had in my life. I'm not exaggerating... The best! It's thick, smooth, and so creamy it feels like you're drinking melted chocolate bars. There's this tiny bitter note that makes it even richer, but it's not too sweet either. Just perfect balance. I honestly took my time with it, like sip by sip slow, because I didn't want it to end. The service was super friendly and quick, which made the whole thing even better. The place itself has this cozy, peaceful vibe that makes you forget about the rush outside. I walked out just feeling happy. Simple as that.

No real "wow" factor here! The food selection was mediocre and common to what could be found in any cafe in Paris. The service was awful! The waiter acted like we didn't exist most of the time. He came over talking to us in French immediately and got a sour look when we asked for our pastries and coffee in English. He definitely spent more time at the French speaking tables and definitely didn't use rude body language with them as he did us. We were warned that in Paris, the French will be rude to all the tourists. We didn't really experience that much till this encounter. The cafe itself was nice with outdoor patio seating in an inclosed space. I definitely recommend the seating! The food and coffee were decent.

Upscale cafe with some very friendly hosts and great ambience. They have outside seating, a semi inside ( patio style) and then an absolute inside seating that helps them serve their customers. We got ourselves situated inside for the lunch visit and placed an order for the salad ( comes with salmon ), a plate of sea bass with seasonal vegetables and an order of fries. The food was definitely top notch and the experience was beyond wonderful. Right after we enjoyed our meal we ordered a hot chocolate, fig tart and an americano to address those sweet cravings. Awesome and top notch. Loved those extra calories every bit the way they were offered. Sofiane was our host for the lunch and did a fantastic job serving our table. I had a bit of a coffee spill and he did try to help me by taking me down to the cleaning station where they were out of the cleaning spray though he got me hot water and a cloth which did the job for the most part. It's his intention and effort that definitely counts!!

Wonderful breakfast spot. It was a beautiful day and we sat outside. When it comes to a French breakfast, I look for the simple things that are done well. Like a deep golden brown baguette, thin but crackly and crisp and most importantly with lots of blisters or bubbles from proper fermentation. They nailed it here. And don't get me started on the salted butter. The Pot de chocolat des Deux Magots ( classic hot chocolate) was insanely delicious. Made with their classic preparation since 1884, it was rich, thick and full of chocolate goodness. The Croissant, pain aux chocolate ( chocolate croissant ) super flaky and light with a wonderful slither of delicious chocolate that was just enough to fill your senses with chocolate goodness without overwhelming the croissant. The Les Deux Magots chicken Croque-Madame, organic fried egg on top, green salad - Lightly breaded sautéed chicken filet, melted Gruyère and a béchamel sauce top with a fried egg. At least on this dish, the egg came before the chicken. Rich and hearty dish that will keep you going until lunch. Excellent service and they speak English. Happy Eating!,

tl;dr the restaurant is stunning, but the overpriced eats and snooty service are both unpalatable There are countless bistros across the City of Lights, but few are as iconic as Les Deux Magots. This Saint-Germain-des-Pres bistro has boasted centuries of famous visitors, from Earnest Hemingway to Julia Child. Nowadays, Les Deux Magots remains a popular people-watching spot for classic bistro fare. The atmosphere is stunningly Parisian. The tan walls are intricately carved, accented by aqua and hunter-green trim. Tray-style ceilings have recessed lighting, and antique lighting fixtures have been modernized with bulbs. Mahogany tables are pressed up against crimson leather half-booths. The rattle of silverware clashes against the low din of chatter. My family arrived for weekday lunch, and we were immediately seated inside. We started with a forgettable standard espresso beverage and the thick, velvety Chocolat des Deux Magots à l'ancienne (hot chocolate). Meanwhile, Le Croque-Madame des Deux Magots au jambon ou poulet was thick, rich, and crispy. It was the perfect size to split, and featured the ideal ratio of ham, cheese, and béchamel. However, the egg was overdone, and the endive salad was undressed and boring. The daily special gnocchi had a nice texture, and it was served in a rich (albeit one-dimensional) cream of mushroom. The side of baguette was plain and wholly unremarkable. Prices are exceptionally high -- expect to spend 10 euros on beverages and 20-25 euros on standard dishes. Further, the service is snooty, a stark contrast to its nearby rival, Café de Flore. If you value tasty eats, then Les Deux Magots is the marginally better pick between the two; however, my overall experience was more memorably positive at Café de Flore.

If it's good enough for Hemingway, it's good enough for me. Les Deux Magots, along with a handful of cafes in its vicinity, were popular hangouts for the literary elite in the 1920s. The line for dinner in the early evening was only about 10 minutes long. We opted to sit in the semi-enclosed patio which gave us more space & shade than their sidewalk tables. Knowing we were going for gelato nearby for dessert, we ordered a light & fresh meal of a dozen large Burgundy escargots (36 €, the most we paid for snails on our entire trip); warm goat's cheese salad (22 €, loved the temperature contrast of warm cheese on toast over a cool bed of greens); and half a sweet & ripe cantaloupe served with port (I don't recall pricing on this seasonal special.) We really lucked out with service both with the cheerful hostess who asked if we were there to eat or drink (both!) & our lovely server with a good sense of humor. If you're intrigued with literary history, you'll get a kick out of dining at the cafe referenced in "The Sun Also Rises."

This place is EVERY tourist dream. After seeing all the posts about this spot, I knew I had to come here for lunch. Was sat at a table with partial sun right up against the window outside. People watching was amazing and the staff were so friendly. Asked the waiter to help me choose between the rigatoni au pistou et burrata & the roast poultry. He told me the pasta was really good and I'm so happy I asked. The pasta was incredible.

What made escargots special was the garlic butter and herb. Here, there were the herbs, no garlic, and French is famous with their butter but I taste oil but not buttery. With just the onion soup and Foie Gras, I could barely swallow anything. Generous portion.

We headed to Chez Janou, a Paris institution. I hadn't been in years, but my son insisted we go back because, according to him, they have the best chocolate mousse in Paris. Judging by the lineup, half the city; and every tourist with an Instagram account showed up. Thankfully we had a 2pm reso. Here's the thing, though. Everyone talks about the mousse, but the food deserves just as much attention. I'd also forgotten how much I love the 3rd arrondissement. Wander a few minutes from the restaurant and you'll find beautiful art galleries, a gorgeous little park, and some of the best boutique shopping in Paris. It's one of those neighbourhoods where you accidentally walk 15,000 steps without realizing it. Now, here's your game plan. Start with the escargots or the gambas to share. For your main, order the farci provençal or the foie de veau. The farci is like a French version of a stuffed pepper: yummy comfort food with a southern coast twist. As for the foie de veau... I actually ordered it by mistake. I thought I was getting regular veal. Out came veal liver. Best mistake of the day. I love liver. My mom makes an incredible liver and onions, so I'm a tough judge. This was outstanding. Rich, buttery, perfectly cooked and perfectly salted. It was so good I immediately texted my mom and told her she's coming here the next time she's in Paris. Drum roll, please... The chocolate mousse. Was it worth all the hype? Yep. There are no fancy swirls or little artistic desserts here. A server simply walks over carrying what looks like a white industrial-sized bowl of chocolate mousse and casually drops a mountain of it onto your plate. Everyone grabs a spoon and starts digging in. It's wonderfully French. Simple. Unpretentious. Ridiculously good. So yes, Chez Janou lives up to the hype. But don't just come for the mousse. Come for the lunch, stay for the neighbourhood, and spend the afternoon getting happily lost in one of the best corners of Paris. That's a Friday well spent.

The beef bourguignon was tasty, but we did not like how both my and my friend's order were brought in the same pot. This resulted in us having maybe 3 tiny potatoes each and not near as much meat as we hoped for. We were expecting to each have our own dish. This was certainly not worth the 36€ per person price point (nearly $80 USD for the one pot of food), and we left the restaurant still hungry and extremely upset and disappointed by the service. Overall I would not return or recommend.

I made one and did not receive a confirmation email so there must have been a glitch in the system and it did not go through. However, we put our name down on a Saturday evening and only had to wait 20 minutes. The place is very small and charming- we set less than a foot away from another couple which made the experience more fun. We were greeted by a great server and he accommodated to our language- we ordered a glass of champagne and a beer then 6 escargot to start. It was fun diving into the culture as well as delicious. The meals were perfect size for us and had so much flavor! We dipped the potatoes from the beef with the ravioli cheese and it was the most delicious combination. I get the buzz about this place, we had such a lovely time as a traveling couple and would go again for the whole meal anymore!

I wanted to taste authentic French Onion soup before leaving this beautiful country and we could not have selected a better place. The soup was, of course, the most delicious onion soup I have ever tasted and the duck breast and green beans which followed were equally amazing. My husband ordered the egg and duck confit appetizer which we were initially puzzled as to what to expect but it was DELISH! As was the duck Shepherd's Pie! To top off the wonderful food was the friendly, gracious service through which it was provided. These two gentleman made our final evening the best. Thank you so much for your hospitality!

These smaller bistro type eateries are the lifeblood of the local cuisine. They consistently offer reasonably priced dishes that are full of flavor and technique. The wine and drink options are well catered to the menu and they provide options for most price points. The service we experienced was exactly what you want... our server had plenty of suggestions based on the offerings of the day. The service was attentive and responsive... not much more than you could ask for. I had the duck breast being offered... it was served alongside crispy potatoes, green beans, and a salad. Adding in the onion soup and a glass of wine... it quickly became a King's dinner at a very reasonable price. I would be more than happy to eat here again and look forward to exploring the rest of the menu offering many local and classic French options.
