Ham with barbecue sauce and fries
Judy M.

Our first dining experience in Paris! We were welcomed and seated right away. The waiter was warm and helpful. We'd decided to try the Saint Germain cocktails, and they may have been the best we had on our trip. We split a salad, which had fried goat cheese in it. Deeelicious! I ordered the barbecue ham with fries. It was good, but I'd probably try something else if we returned. The restaurant was busy but not frenetic. We dined outside and enjoyed watching the people go by. We were sorry that we didn't get another chance to return there.

Best onion soup (IMO) in Paris! Delicious bold flavors and a great place to sit and watch Paris in real time.

My trip to Paris wouldn't been complete if I didn't have French Onion Soup. So I came across This nice restaurant while walking down the lovely streets of Paris. The hostess was extremely nice which is one of the reasons I decided to dine in. The restaurant was nice and the French onion soup was to die for. If I ever revisit France again my first stop will be here. My daughter had the burger and fries which she liked as well.

We were looking for a good late-night bite after a concert in Paris, and I found Cafe Louise on some list. It was a good choice. It's a quintessential French restaurant or French brasserie - with a menu like the ones you'd find in such restaurants. All the basics are covered. But it is an awfully nice quality restaurant if you're hungry at midnight. -We ordered a salad just because we wanted something green. It was fresh and tasty. -I of course got foie gras, which was good/fine -French onion soup was some of the better french onion soup we found in France, nice and deeply flavorful with a good amount of cheese melted on top -And he got the crepes flambe, which arrived at the table with a tableside little pitcher of flaming sauce that was poured over much to the delight of everyone within our general vicinity. My husband, who does not drink, said the sauce still tasted really boozy, so he didn't finish them. But the french onion soup was good for him and then I got the boozy crepes, so win win win in my book lol. Service was friendly and efficient. I was a little confused since everywhere it said the Cafe was open till 2 a.m. but at about 12:30 we were told to get our last orders in because the kitchen was closing. So maybe it's variable depending on how busy it is? Who knows. At any rate, a good spot for a late night bite.

This place is easy to find and a good traditional French cafe. I visited here twice during my trip since the GoCity Paris Pass included 2 offers. We first stopped in for late afternoon drinks and snacks. We got spritz cocktails as well as some light snacks like bread, tuna salad, and fresh crudité. It was overall decent. The next morning we did the Parisian breakfast, which includes your choice of plain or chocolate croissant, fruit, orange juice, and a hot beverage. I chose an extra hot cafe au lait (like always)! It wasn't my favorite breakfast on the trip, but it was filling and enjoyable! The service was great both times! For what you get it's a good deal.

Went to Cafe Louise as this was having a nice menu offering for New Years Eve with live music and DJ party. However, this was not the case at all. We were seated downstairs in the "cave" of the restaurant, which decor wise was nice. The "live music" was basically one of their wait staff singing, which was not really good. I would not have called it live music, rather it should've been karaoke. And to top it all off, the food was horrendous! Not edible at all. Both of our plats, we could not even finish because it was cold, extremely creamy and you can tell it was a mass-produced lunch food. The entrees included two options: Foie gras OR seared scallops Plats were: monkfish OR chicken We were able to try all of them. The entrees Foie Gras and seared scallops started off right and was good! But once the plats arrived, everything went downhill. Overall, avoid especially during New Years eve. Nothing special of a restaurant.

I started with the free-range eggs with mayo, and my wife started with the leeks with vinaigrette. The eggs were delicious, but the leeks may have been the best preparation I've ever had in my life. For our main courses, she had the egg muffin, and I had the sausage and mash. Our meal was superb. Whoever is in the kitchen has clearly learned the art of French cuisine well. Luca Recommended a meal with a mashed potatoes and sausage with French bread and salad and it sounded tasty so I gave it a go! All the flavors went well together; mashed potatoes were well seasoned the sausage had a good flavor, and the salad with the vinaigrette added a crunch in an extra flavor as well. I drank a French hard cider while I gobbled up my meal, which also was new for me and tasted great after I was done my meal. Luke brought me a shot with rum and some other ingredients, including lemon that definitely hit the spot after a good meal.I recommend Brasserie Belanger for anyone near GDN Train Station that enjoys great food and patio dining. Cheers!

However, it is definitely overshadowed by the rich flavor of the foie gras. This experience was unforgettable, with our view of Parisian streets on a brisk, April night. We even came back on our last night, but didn't realize the hours on Google maps was for the deli. The restaurant closes earlier, before 9:00 PM. Just finished a long bike ride to the Eiffel Tower and worked up an appetite. Decided to go straight to the main course. They are known for Au Gratins. My son is not a cheese fan so he opted for the norvigene (smoked salmon in dill lemon and EVOO. I decided to stick with the house specialty; Landais Au Gratin (cream potatoes, duck breast and emmental cheese). The 2 German girls beside me ordered a cider with both their meals so I followed their lead. When in Paris...... Considering the temperature, I almost second-guess myself and ordered something other than their house specialty of au gratin potatoes. In the end, I was very glad I overruled that thought. Brody enjoyed his meal. He just appeared to still be hungry when it was done and a 16 year-old boy that normally has a high caloric intake, I can understand why he wanted a second meal after eating his first! When the restaurant reopened, things only got worse. Our party of five was first told we didn't have a reservation and then was offered a table for four right by the entrance. We were later offered a high-top table, but I explained that I had recently undergone knee surgery and could not sit comfortably at a high-top. The manager's response was simply that it was the only option available, and she walked away. We were told the preferred tables were reserved. When I asked if we could make a reservation for one of those tables, I was told no because the restaurant had just reopened. The entire interaction left us feeling unwelcome. A customer sitting at the bar even commented that he believed we were being treated differently and said it appeared the restaurant did not want us there. After waiting more than two hours just for the restaurant to reopen, this was an incredibly disappointing experience. The poor communication, lack of accommodation, and overall service were unacceptable. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this restaurant based on my experience.

Friday lunch was an absolute beauty…read more The food? Fantastic. The wait times? Let's just say we're in Paris, not a Formula 1 pit lane. We'll leave it at that. We headed to Chez Janou, a Paris institution. I hadn't been in years, but my son insisted we go back because, according to him, they have the best chocolate mousse in Paris. Judging by the lineup, half the city; and every tourist with an Instagram account showed up. Thankfully we had a 2pm reso. Here's the thing, though. Everyone talks about the mousse, but the food deserves just as much attention. I'd also forgotten how much I love the 3rd arrondissement. Wander a few minutes from the restaurant and you'll find beautiful art galleries, a gorgeous little park, and some of the best boutique shopping in Paris. It's one of those neighbourhoods where you accidentally walk 15,000 steps without realizing it. Now, here's your game plan. Start with the escargots or the gambas to share. For your main, order the farci provençal or the foie de veau. The farci is like a French version of a stuffed pepper: yummy comfort food with a southern coast twist. As for the foie de veau... I actually ordered it by mistake. I thought I was getting regular veal. Out came veal liver. Best mistake of the day. I love liver. My mom makes an incredible liver and onions, so I'm a tough judge. This was outstanding. Rich, buttery, perfectly cooked and perfectly salted. It was so good I immediately texted my mom and told her she's coming here the next time she's in Paris. Drum roll, please... The chocolate mousse. Was it worth all the hype? Yep. There are no fancy swirls or little artistic desserts here. A server simply walks over carrying what looks like a white industrial-sized bowl of chocolate mousse and casually drops a mountain of it onto your plate. Everyone grabs a spoon and starts digging in. It's wonderfully French. Simple. Unpretentious. Ridiculously good. So yes, Chez Janou lives up to the hype. But don't just come for the mousse. Come for the lunch, stay for the neighbourhood, and spend the afternoon getting happily lost in one of the best corners of Paris. That's a Friday well spent.
