I came here with a friend for of course the famous hot chocolate. We waited for about 15-20 minutes and got a nice table outside. The service was a bit slow in my opinion, but it was also very busy here. We each got our own hot chocolate (you can't share). It was super thick in my opinion. It honestly just tasted like melted chocolate in a cup. There was not milk or anything to balance it out the richness of it. The homemade whipped cream it comes with is delicious!!! We each got our own chicken sandwich and that thing was massive. Definitely could've split one, but it was super delicious and I really enjoyed the side of fries as well. This for me is a one time spot and I know most tourists go here. I wouldn't come back here personally.
I went to Carette at lunch time on a Sunday with my friend and we were seated fairly quickly after waiting in the line for standby seating. At this time of day they were sold out of a lot of pastries (including croissants) and were no longer serving breakfast options. We were mainly interested in trying the famous hot chocolate, which was delicious. However, the service was not very attentive and the lack of available items and very high prices made the experience one I would likely not seek out again. We had a bottle of water, two hot chocolates, whipped cream, strawberries, a brioche roll, and a slice of tomato quiche and paid $93 usd for our meal.
One side benefit from staying in Le Marais is that you're closer to the less crowded of the two Carettes in the city. Jamie W and I saw the seemingly endless line awaiting the more famous Trocadero location. That was the valid reason we decided to stop here as part of our stroll around the becalming Place des Vosges. It's in the historic arcade off the northern side of the square. While it drew a steady stream of people, we were able to secure a table on the sidewalk quite easily. The menu was a bit overwhelming. It was more than a patisserie as there were breakfast and lunch options available. Since we had pastries on the brain, we wanted to try their signature items like the Saint-Honore or the Opera, but it turned out they were quite depleted by early afternoon We were able to get the 10,50€ Mille-feuille, a sinfully delicious caramelized puff pastry layered with vanilla pastry cream (Photo 8). We added further decadence with a 6€ Pain au Chocolat and a 5€ Croissant Carette (Photo 7). No arguing it was an extravaganza of carbs and refined sugar. However, the quality of the execution made all the extra cardio worthwhile in the future. Now you might be shocked to find out we didn't order their fabled hot chocolate, the 13,50€ Chocolat Carette Avec de la Chantilly, but even we thought that would be like ordering a dessert upon a dessert. Instead we went with the perfectly fine 10,50€ Cafe Latte au Lait d'Amande with almond milk (Photo 9). We could easily come back for their scrambled eggs or club sandwiches. Ah, we'll always have Paris. Finally made it here after putting it off for a week, and wow... totally worth it. I got the Chocolat Carette and honestly I didn't expect the whole presentation, a cup overflowing with whipped cream, and then the staff pours the hot chocolate right in front of you. Looked spectacular, but once I took that first sip... Oh man. That deep chocolate hit just melted everything else away. Smooth, thick, creamy, a little bitter in the best way. It's like drinking dessert and comfort at the same time. The place was packed, but the line moved fast, we waited around five minutes tops. The vibe inside was warm and cozy. You could tell everyone was just enjoying the moment. Definitely coming back for that chocolate alone.
On a stroll through Paris, I suddenly remembered the viral Tik Tok video of this delicious luxurious hot chocolate at a cafe named Carette. I knew I immediately had to go there and coincidentally we were very close by. Carette is the epitome of a classy french cafe, where you do need to wait a bit to be seated. This picture perfect restaurant had such kind staff and were very patient and attentive. The food was excellent, where I ordered the French Onion Soup. And of course I had to order the Hot Chocolate which was just decadent with the most delicious whipped cream on top. I really do understand the hype of this place now because it really did not disappoint. Would absolutely come back again, and would love to try all the other dishes! 9/10 recommend!
One of the best hot chocolates I've ever had - it was super rich and the whipped cream added more sweetness and made it smoother (if that makes sense). The only suggestion for improvement was the service. Staff were a bit rude and took a while to take our order and brought out the drinks after the crepe, which we found to be a bit odd.
Wow, I was worried that this place was just popular on TikTok and overhyped, but it was fantastic and I am so glad we were able to go for breakfast one morning! Everything we had was fantastic. We each ordered one of the set meals with various courses. It was a bit much to eat croissants, and toast etc (felt like a lot of bread?) but everything was tasty. I had to get the hot chocolate which was out of this world. Also, the eggs were so delicious as was the quiche. We had efficient but good service. We were sat outside, and the restaurant itself is similar to other paris cafes. We would definitely return.
Visited around noon on a Thursday, and the wait time was no more than 20 minutes. You have the option to sit indoors or outdoors, which is a nice touch. Service was quick, and we were in and out fairly fast. Now, onto the food-if you go, the hot chocolate with whipped cream is a must! It's incredibly rich, smooth, and easily the highlight of the meal. I also tried the escargot, but it wasn't the best I've had. If you order it, I'd recommend asking for extra sauce. TIP: Under the scrambled egg section, I ordered the Norwegian smoked salmon, expecting a scrambled egg dish. Instead, it came as a club sandwich with lettuce, eggs, salmon, and tomatoes, served with a side salad. It was decent, but nothing special. Don't make the same mistake I did if you're expecting something different! I also tried one of their finger sandwiches-again, just average. Overall, the food was okay, but the hot chocolate? Absolutely worth it!

The prices are pretty ridiculous - €13 for a cup of hot chocolate, €30 for sandwiches, €20 for a cup of strawberries the quiche Lorraine was pretty good and the hot chocolate was definitely very rich, we just weren't aware the cup of strawberries would cost so much lol :') also they tend to run out of croissants and pain au chocolats. The service was also a bit rude lol
Carette has two locations in Paris. If you're looking for a delicious pastry, Carette is the place to go. You can take it to go or eat there. I chose to eat inside with a friend. We had delicious meals. Our desserts were the best part. The service was great and the interior is certainly 19th-century France. read more
Carette offers a quintessential French brunch in a beautiful cafe setting. There are a few locations in Paris, but we visited their Bastille location which is right across from the charming Place des Vosges. We had a morning of delicious food and people watching! We ordered their famous Carette hot chocolate with chantilly cream, croissants, scrambled eggs with herbs, quiche lorraine, veggie quiche, and a few espresso drinks to go around. The food was amazing, and the quiche was hands down the best we had anywhere around the world. We were waited on by the friendliest server who made us feel so welcome and ensured we had everything we needed. Prices are a bit steep (quiche and side salad were €19 alone), but if you're looking for a nice place to brunch with friends, Carette is the place to be! read more
The hot chocolate is wonderful. It can get pretty busy and the tables are very close to others. My server seemed very annoyed to be there and more annoyed that people kept coming. Carette has some of the best hot chocolate in Paris! It's thick but luxuriously smooth and better with the chantilly mixed in. Is recommend it if you have time to wait! read more

I visited both Carette locations in Paris and I was never disappointed. Between the eggs, strawberries and cream, and the hot chocolate. Everything was delicious and the service was very fast. We were also seated within less than 10 minutes. A must when visiting Paris. read more

Dropped by for some late-night Hot Chocolate. Expensive for sure but it's a nice treat. I honestly loved the Chantilly Cream more than the chocolate itself, which became too heavy and sweet after awhile but a nice experience nonetheless. read more

Great stop for a Paris first timer. Food was good but you're really paying for the experience. Just do it and enjoy the fun. Service was good most locals speak a little English and with our little French it all worked out. The restaurant its self is beautiful. read more

We came just for the famous hot Chocolate. Omg!!!! The pastry and hot chocolate was amazing the best I've ever had. We got there late but still received excellent service. Sitting outside perfect lighting nice music just wonderful. When in Paris I will make it here everytime. read more

Food: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 4/5 I had to try this famous hot chocolate spot at least once. I arrived super early by local standards and ordered hot chocolate with whipped cream on the side, along with fried eggs and ham. I've tried a few highly rated hot chocolate places in town, and this one ranks among my top three. While I won't factor in the price when rating it, I can say the experience was worth it. I'd come back again, but this wouldn't be my go-to spot for hot chocolate. read more

We stopped by Carette for a late breakfast and had an amazing meal in a picture-perfect Parisian setting. The service was professional and polite, even with how busy the café was. Our server was patient, attentive, and made great recommendations without rushing us -- which we appreciated. The food was excellent: The scrambled eggs were perfectly creamy and rich -- mine came with sautéed mushrooms and melted cheese, while my friend had the ham and cheese version, both beautifully presented. The escargot was a standout surprise -- buttery, garlicky, and cooked just right. The croissant was flaky, fresh, and paired wonderfully with the house-made whipped cream and hot chocolate, which was rich, dark, and velvety -- basically dessert in a cup. The mimosa was light and fresh -- a perfect touch. The ambiance is classic Parisian patio chic -- white tablecloths, shaded outdoor seating, and plenty of people-watching. Expect it to be busy, but that's part of the charm. If I had to knock off a half star, it'd only be for the tight table spacing and the slight wait to be seated. But once we were in, it was well worth it. Would absolutely come back again -- for breakfast, brunch, or even just a croissant and chocolat chaud. Cuaud Chocolat is what my wife has been obsessed with... Chaud Chocolat she wanted it now that we are in Paris!! So like a good husband I take her to her top choice for Chaid Chocolat. 2 orders of Chaud Chocolat and 1 pain de chocolat was our order... Our waiter comes with a large dispenser for us and the largest whip cream holder ever and pours us both a glass before walking away, leaving the whip cream to our leisure... Away we go scooping and placing the whip cream in the Chocolat stir and taste!!! At first taste the thickness of the Chocolat is not like back home but man the sweetness was perfect and the homemade whip cream is delicious beyond words.. 3 cups later like Chaud the Chocolat piggys we finished. Now what do we do LOL I guess pay and leave... They are bit pricey at €12.50 per cup but you will not find a better Chaud Chocolat in Paris everyone else seemed a bit watered down. My recommendation is spend the money and enjoy the best Hot Chocolate ever!!!! read more

Learned about this place through TikTok and needed to stop by while in Paris. They're known for the thick hot chocolate and pastries. We got the hot chocolate, a croissant, chocolate croissant, one ham finger sandwich, and a latte. We waited around 25 minutes to be seated. I'd say everything was enjoyable but for the price and wait, it's not worth it. There are a lot of other places in Paris that have similar offerings for less, which I would recommend looking into read more
This review is just for the hot chocolate and the service. Super disappointed. Paid 20 euros for a cup of hot chocolate and a crepe-so understandingly underwhelmed with what we got. Lookswise, it looks pretty enough with the mounds of whipped cream served but taste wise Angelina's wins hands down. The Carette version was very watery and not chocolatey enough. The cream is sweetened and so makes the whole drink too sweet. Crepe was ok but pricey. Service was super iffy. Some Asian dude who just did not want to serve us-maybe he wanted to close early since it was raining. Right from the entrance, he seemed reluctant but I was determined to try. He did say its 1 dish per person so we got the crepe even though I just wanted the hot chocolate and my husband nothing. read more

Located in a very nice area in the 3rd circle of Paris. Beautiful park across the street to have an idea of what family life is in Paris. We ordered some traditional French dishes with mixed results. The Pattee was delicious, well balanced and silky. The onion soup was well presented, the cheese melted but the broth was a bit bland which I fixed with a little pepper. And beef bourguignon was just ok. The meat was tough for a dish that is supposed to be very tender and they added broccoli which it is not part of the dish. Overall a good experience with good service. read more
Ridiculously overpriced coffee and macaroons! While the ambiance is pleasant and offers a French and Parisian experience like the cliches we tourists look for, the quality is very standard, nothing to justify €15 for 4 small macaroons, and a €12 cappuccino (they call it double, but nothing double about it). After waiting on the line for about 45 mins. We were seated in the front and we ordered the hot chocolate and a croissant. And both were delicious. However, the restroom was the most disgusting thing I have ever experienced. I will save you from the mess I've seen and smelled. The staff I was in no hurry to clean up the mess either. I still have nightmares and I'm from NYC the land of disgusting public bathrooms . read more
What is a trip to Paris without some hot chocolate? I visited Carette for this reason but I also had some food that was quite tasty. I stopped by right when it opened on Sunday morning because I wasn't sure if it was going to be busy. There were a few parties but we were seated right away. I recommend sitting outside because there's a nice park in front of the restaurant so there's a good calm vibe out there. The hot chocolate was perfect. They bring it to you in a container and pour it out in front of you. You can probably get two cups of hot chocolate from that container but it's for a single person. They won't give you two cups to share it even though it's totally shareable. It comes with fresh crème and it's a must to mix in there. I was very pleased with my very first Parisian hot chocolate. Make sure to order a croissant to dip in there. I also had the quiche lorraine which has egg and bacon. It was the perfect savory item to balance out the sweet hot chocolate. My husband had a crepe with honey that he enjoyed. The honey came in a small personal glass jar, which was a cute touch. read more

Loved that I could get a hot chocolate and delicious French pastries 9 pm at night from Carette! I was staying in a hotel not too far from here, so when the late night munchies hit around 8:30, I looked for patisseries that were still open nearby and to my surprise, came across Carette. My friend and I made it by 9 and opted to sit outside as it was a nice day out. There was no wait this late at night. They have a full menu of food and drinks, but I knew what I was here for... the hot chocolate and some pastries! The hot chocolate with whipped cream (chocolat Carette) is the popular thing to get here, but because it was late night, I opted to skip the whipped cream and got just the regular hot chocolate for $10. Our server also went over the pastries they had left, and one of their monthly pastries sounded amazing with strawberry cream, so I got that. I really enjoyed both my drink and the pastry. The hot chocolate tasted very rich and chocolate-y and wasn't nearly as thick as the hot chocolate from Angelina. I preferred this hot chocolate more as it felt like an actual drink. The portion is pretty large too, definitely enough for two people to share. The strawberry cream pastry (called chou hibiscus according to my receipt) was really good as well. The cream inside went well with the strawberry jam and the breaded section. It was light and perfect for a late night snack! My friend got a tea called the blanc and enjoyed sipping away at it. read more

Wonderful experience in this charming cafe. The ambiance alone is worth coming for, but the service was also very good and super welcoming. The pastries, coffee, and hot chocolate were all great. Highly recommend! Worth the short wait in line. read more

didn't get any food, just a hot chocolate. (it was on the way to the restaurant that we had a reservation at) Service was great, staff were nice. I liked the atmosphere, very cozy. The hot chocolate was great, rich, but not too rich, Perfect blend of sweet and bitter. 5/5, definitely recommend. Of course we came here to try their hot chocolate, as it was right down the street from our airbnb. We got two hot chocolates, a crepe and a croissant. Hot chocolate was very nice especially with the cream so the chocolate flavor is not too strong. The croissant and crepe were nice. The food was expensive but that's what you get when you go somewhere that's trending. If I remember correctly, it was $12 for one hot chocolate but you get a pitcher with more hot chocolate so it's not just one cup at that price. Was definitely worth it though. The service was alright, we sat there a while waiting for the waitress. After we got our order in we got our drinks and food quick. The ambiance was nice, you sit pretty close to people but that's typical in European countries. The street wasn't too busy (~9am) and not too many people walking on the sidewalk. read more
