We asked the concierge in our hotel where to get a true Parisian breakfast and without hesitation he told us to go to Carette. It is in a beautiful location right off a public park/square, there is plenty of seating inside and outside. Friendly and delicious but not cheap, it is Paris after all. Great scrambled eggs and pastries! If there's a line, don't panic, it moves fast. Bathrooms are downstairs and they are tight, you've been warned!
Carette offers a quintessential French brunch in a beautiful cafe setting. There are a few locations in Paris, but we visited their Bastille location which is right across from the charming Place des Vosges. We had a morning of delicious food and people watching! We ordered their famous Carette hot chocolate with chantilly cream, croissants, scrambled eggs with herbs, quiche lorraine, veggie quiche, and a few espresso drinks to go around. The food was amazing, and the quiche was hands down the best we had anywhere around the world. We were waited on by the friendliest server who made us feel so welcome and ensured we had everything we needed. Prices are a bit steep (quiche and side salad were €19 alone), but if you're looking for a nice place to brunch with friends, Carette is the place to be!
Say what you want but I think Carette is a classic that you have to stop by when you're in Paris! I had only been to the location near the Eiffel Tower but we were staying near here so we had to come by after dinner! I just couldn't imagine leaving Paris without having that hot chocolate... It is just divine! SO RICH and the whipped cream is amazing. To go with it we got the mille fieulle because the kitchen was closed late so we couldn't get a crepe but the pastry was still DELISH. A must stop in Paris.
Carette was another highlight of my trip to Paris. The escargot was beyond delicious. And while weird mix, the hot chocolate with the whip cream was a must order. It lived up to all the hype. I walked in on a whim during the day and was able to get a table right away. Service was quick and even though I only ordered a couple things, the waitress was attentive and caring. It definitely felt like an older, Parisian vibe, but it was absolutely perfect and should not be missed when you travel to Paris!
Don't waste your time. Over hyped, expensive, same and better quality elsewhere.15% credit card fee
The hot chocolate is wonderful. It can get pretty busy and the tables are very close to others. My server seemed very annoyed to be there and more annoyed that people kept coming. Carette has some of the best hot chocolate in Paris! It's thick but luxuriously smooth and better with the chantilly mixed in. Is recommend it if you have time to wait!
I went to Carette at lunch time on a Sunday with my friend and we were seated fairly quickly after waiting in the line for standby seating. At this time of day they were sold out of a lot of pastries (including croissants) and were no longer serving breakfast options. We were mainly interested in trying the famous hot chocolate, which was delicious. However, the service was not very attentive and the lack of available items and very high prices made the experience one I would likely not seek out again. We had a bottle of water, two hot chocolates, whipped cream, strawberries, a brioche roll, and a slice of tomato quiche and paid $93 usd for our meal.
One side benefit from staying in Le Marais is that you're closer to the less crowded of the two Carettes in the city. Jamie W and I saw the seemingly endless line awaiting the more famous Trocadero location. That was the valid reason we decided to stop here as part of our stroll around the becalming Place des Vosges. It's in the historic arcade off the northern side of the square. While it drew a steady stream of people, we were able to secure a table on the sidewalk quite easily. The menu was a bit overwhelming. It was more than a patisserie as there were breakfast and lunch options available. Since we had pastries on the brain, we wanted to try their signature items like the Saint-Honore or the Opera, but it turned out they were quite depleted by early afternoon We were able to get the 10,50€ Mille-feuille, a sinfully delicious caramelized puff pastry layered with vanilla pastry cream (Photo 8). We added further decadence with a 6€ Pain au Chocolat and a 5€ Croissant Carette (Photo 7). No arguing it was an extravaganza of carbs and refined sugar. However, the quality of the execution made all the extra cardio worthwhile in the future. Now you might be shocked to find out we didn't order their fabled hot chocolate, the 13,50€ Chocolat Carette Avec de la Chantilly, but even we thought that would be like ordering a dessert upon a dessert. Instead we went with the perfectly fine 10,50€ Cafe Latte au Lait d'Amande with almond milk (Photo 9). We could easily come back for their scrambled eggs or club sandwiches. Ah, we'll always have Paris. FOOD - 4.5 stars...patisserie at the next level COFFEE - 4 stars...quite tasty even without chocolate AMBIANCE - 4 stars...the historic arcade made it feel quintessentially Paris SERVICE - 3.5 stars...a bit harried TOTAL - 4 stars...well come back for the hot chocolate RELATED - Exploring Paris? Dropped by for some late-night Hot Chocolate. Expensive for sure but it's a nice treat. I honestly loved the Chantilly Cream more than the chocolate itself, which became too heavy and sweet after awhile but a nice experience nonetheless.
Finally made it here after putting it off for a week, and wow... totally worth it. I got the Chocolat Carette and honestly I didn't expect the whole presentation, a cup overflowing with whipped cream, and then the staff pours the hot chocolate right in front of you. Looked spectacular, but once I took that first sip... Oh man. That deep chocolate hit just melted everything else away. Smooth, thick, creamy, a little bitter in the best way. It's like drinking dessert and comfort at the same time. The place was packed, but the line moved fast, we waited around five minutes tops. The vibe inside was warm and cozy. You could tell everyone was just enjoying the moment. Definitely coming back for that chocolate alone.
On a stroll through Paris, I suddenly remembered the viral Tik Tok video of this delicious luxurious hot chocolate at a cafe named Carette. I knew I immediately had to go there and coincidentally we were very close by. Carette is the epitome of a classy french cafe, where you do need to wait a bit to be seated. This picture perfect restaurant had such kind staff and were very patient and attentive. The food was excellent, where I ordered the French Onion Soup. And of course I had to order the Hot Chocolate which was just decadent with the most delicious whipped cream on top. I really do understand the hype of this place now because it really did not disappoint. Would absolutely come back again, and would love to try all the other dishes! 9/10 recommend!
I visited both Carette locations in Paris and I was never disappointed. Between the eggs, strawberries and cream, and the hot chocolate. Everything was delicious and the service was very fast. We were also seated within less than 10 minutes. A must when visiting Paris.
I came here with a friend for of course the famous hot chocolate. We waited for about 15-20 minutes and got a nice table outside. The service was a bit slow in my opinion, but it was also very busy here. We each got our own hot chocolate (you can't share). It was super thick in my opinion. It honestly just tasted like melted chocolate in a cup. There was not milk or anything to balance it out the richness of it. The homemade whipped cream it comes with is delicious!!! We each got our own chicken sandwich and that thing was massive. Definitely could've split one, but it was super delicious and I really enjoyed the side of fries as well. This for me is a one time spot and I know most tourists go here. I wouldn't come back here personally.
What is a trip to Paris without some hot chocolate? I visited Carette for this reason but I also had some food that was quite tasty. I stopped by right when it opened on Sunday morning because I wasn't sure if it was going to be busy. There were a few parties but we were seated right away. I recommend sitting outside because there's a nice park in front of the restaurant so there's a good calm vibe out there. The hot chocolate was perfect. They bring it to you in a container and pour it out in front of you. You can probably get two cups of hot chocolate from that container but it's for a single person. They won't give you two cups to share it even though it's totally shareable. It comes with fresh crème and it's a must to mix in there. I was very pleased with my very first Parisian hot chocolate. Make sure to order a croissant to dip in there. I also had the quiche lorraine which has egg and bacon. It was the perfect savory item to balance out the sweet hot chocolate. My husband had a crepe with honey that he enjoyed. The honey came in a small personal glass jar, which was a cute touch. read more
Loved that I could get a hot chocolate and delicious French pastries 9 pm at night from Carette! I was staying in a hotel not too far from here, so when the late night munchies hit around 8:30, I looked for patisseries that were still open nearby and to my surprise, came across Carette. My friend and I made it by 9 and opted to sit outside as it was a nice day out. There was no wait this late at night. They have a full menu of food and drinks, but I knew what I was here for... the hot chocolate and some pastries! The hot chocolate with whipped cream (chocolat Carette) is the popular thing to get here, but because it was late night, I opted to skip the whipped cream and got just the regular hot chocolate for $10. Our server also went over the pastries they had left, and one of their monthly pastries sounded amazing with strawberry cream, so I got that. I really enjoyed both my drink and the pastry. The hot chocolate tasted very rich and chocolate-y and wasn't nearly as thick as the hot chocolate from Angelina. I preferred this hot chocolate more as it felt like an actual drink. The portion is pretty large too, definitely enough for two people to share. The strawberry cream pastry (called chou hibiscus according to my receipt) was really good as well. The cream inside went well with the strawberry jam and the breaded section. It was light and perfect for a late night snack! My friend got a tea called the blanc and enjoyed sipping away at it. read more

Learned about this place through TikTok and needed to stop by while in Paris. They're known for the thick hot chocolate and pastries. We got the hot chocolate, a croissant, chocolate croissant, one ham finger sandwich, and a latte. We waited around 25 minutes to be seated. I'd say everything was enjoyable but for the price and wait, it's not worth it. There are a lot of other places in Paris that have similar offerings for less, which I would recommend looking into read more

Located in a very nice area in the 3rd circle of Paris. Beautiful park across the street to have an idea of what family life is in Paris. We ordered some traditional French dishes with mixed results. The Pattee was delicious, well balanced and silky. The onion soup was well presented, the cheese melted but the broth was a bit bland which I fixed with a little pepper. And beef bourguignon was just ok. The meat was tough for a dish that is supposed to be very tender and they added broccoli which it is not part of the dish. Overall a good experience with good service. read more
Ridiculously overpriced coffee and macaroons! While the ambiance is pleasant and offers a French and Parisian experience like the cliches we tourists look for, the quality is very standard, nothing to justify €15 for 4 small macaroons, and a €12 cappuccino (they call it double, but nothing double about it). I would pass. read more

After waiting on the line for about 45 mins. We were seated in the front and we ordered the hot chocolate and a croissant. And both were delicious. However, the restroom was the most disgusting thing I have ever experienced. I will save you from the mess I've seen and smelled. The staff I was in no hurry to clean up the mess either. I still have nightmares and I'm from NYC the land of disgusting public bathrooms . read more

This place was good but pricy. Everything was delicious and fresh. Though everything was good, I thought that tip was already included and the guy insisted that it wasn't. read more

Wonderful experience in this charming cafe. The ambiance alone is worth coming for, but the service was also very good and super welcoming. The pastries, coffee, and hot chocolate were all great. Highly recommend! Worth the short wait in line. read more
Of course we came here to try their hot chocolate, as it was right down the street from our airbnb. We got two hot chocolates, a crepe and a croissant. Hot chocolate was very nice especially with the cream so the chocolate flavor is not too strong. The croissant and crepe were nice. The food was expensive but that's what you get when you go somewhere that's trending. If I remember correctly, it was $12 for one hot chocolate but you get a pitcher with more hot chocolate so it's not just one cup at that price. Was definitely worth it though. The service was alright, we sat there a while waiting for the waitress. After we got our order in we got our drinks and food quick. The ambiance was nice, you sit pretty close to people but that's typical in European countries. The street wasn't too busy (~9am) and not too many people walking on the sidewalk. read more
This place is so popular. It's in Place des Vosges. It's really busy but you can just get some snacks to go and sit in the park. The chicken sandwich was good. The small one has no bacon. The eclair was good, too. Very nice place! read more

didn't get any food, just a hot chocolate. (it was on the way to the restaurant that we had a reservation at) Service was great, staff were nice. I liked the atmosphere, very cozy. The hot chocolate was great, rich, but not too rich, Perfect blend of sweet and bitter. 5/5, definitely recommend. There was also a pigeon under our table, (don't worry, he was chill) but he flew away. THE PIGEON PHOTO WONT UPLOAD read more

Who knew a plate of scrambled eggs can be that good? This restaurant is really popular and I had an amazing and filling meal here. Thankfully, when we arrived there wasn't a line but still had to wait about 5 mins. A line quickly formed behind us - we got lucky! I ordered the scrambled eggs with ham and it was delicious. It was cooked to perfection and it was so creamy. They ran out of croissants so I had to settle for the chocolate pastry roll. It was still good. I also wanted to try the onion soup so I got that as well to share. And of course I had to order the hot chocolate. It is a must! It's so rich and chocolately. It wasn't too sweet and was perfect with the cream that it came with. Don't miss out on trying Carette when in Paris. :) read more
Great place to get macarons and wind down at the park! Service was quick and pleasant. The surrounding is beautiful and near Victor Hugo's old apartment. This location is in Le Marais and gets easily packed. I suggest getting macarons to go and sit at the park. Plenty of macaron flavors to choose from. I had the salted caramel, pistachio, cherry, and something tangy like lemon. The Viennese coffee was just ok. Would definitely go back for macarons! read more
My favorite fancy tearoom in Paris! One of the best places for millefeuille in Paris and also a good spot for simple but fancy classic French lunch meals. We tried their onion soup as well as their version of the croque-monsieur. It was really good and perfect portions. They also offer a real good brunch formula (31 euros) on a daily basis. Also, their terrace under the arcade with a view on place des Vosges is really lovely read more

Service was kind & surprisingly quick given French culture. The eggs with ham were life changing. How is that little chive and puff pastry so fresh?! The eggs were incredibly airy and light, never had any on that level. Tea came hot and was delicious. Only didnt like the teapot set up since it didnt allow for me to remove the leaf basket, resulting in over-steeped tea at a certain point. My wife still talks about these eggs. read more
Did you know!? There's a scene of Emily in Paris that took place at the jardin across the street. Whenever I see the scene, I squeal because Carette is RIGHT THERE! Carette has easily become my favorite brunch spot in Paris! Especially this location. It has a nice view of the jardin and is nestled under the arched building. I recommend dining out when the weather is nice. It's beautiful. I some how discovered Carette during my first trip in Paris. Something about the scrambled eggs caught my eye. And the rest has been history. Hubby and I have been dining here multiple times throughout our many trips to Paris for brunch and occasionally some tea! What we order: + Scrambled "Oeufs" Eggs with ham & cheese: this plate is very fulfilling and the hubby has always had to help me finish it (hint: share this plate!). These eggs are on the wet side which are light and fluffy! I like spreading the eggs along some complimentary bread and butter which is delicious! + Croque Monsieur/Madame: it's the prettiest ham & cheese sandwich I've ever had. It's delicious but the only con (due to preference) is that the bread is on the sweeter side. I like my croques on a sourdough slice. With that said, I have eaten this dish on multiple occasions. Hubby also enjoyed his. + Pastries! Plain croissants, pain au chocolat, macarons,... etc. They're all worth trying out! + Ceylon The: A fragrant ceylon tea which makes for a nice cup(s) of warm goodness! I always request a side of cream. On two different occasions, they have given me regular milk (or maybe it was cream?) and a mountain of chantilly cream which went best with my tea. Service here is usually a hit. Some of the servers can be a little snooty when they feel like they need to speak English but I haven't had any issues with my French speaking hubby around. All the food is served exceptionally. It's on the pricier side for brunch and tea but it's worth it for the entire experience. Cheers! read more

Right across Place des Voges, Carette has an extensive menu. But what you're really coming here for is their Chocolat "Cadette" - thick, semi-sweet, semi-bitter, truly decadent, especially with the chantilly cream. So, are you Team Angelina or Team Carette? read more

I came here years ago and ate outside in the sun the most wonderful salad ever! This time i returned but it was freezing so I ate inside. There was a small wait but the staff was very friendly and three of the waiters greeted me and said hello despite the fact that it was very busy! I only had an onion soup but it was very good! The desserts look amazing! I was full but id i had not been i would totally have some! There was also a place to hang hats and coats! Unfortunately no internet: one star less for that because in Paris this would be appreciated ! read more

I literally traveled to Paris just to dine at this café and try the famous hot chocolate. Totally worth it! The pastries we had were divine. The crepes were not our favorite, but once we added sugar and a little whipped cream it wasn't bad at all. But the hot chocolate was the star of the show! It was incredible!!! So chocolatey, creamy and smooth. Worth the trip. The staff wasn't the friendliest But we did fine there twice so all is good. read more

Stopped in for an afternoon snack before an appointment, luckily just as the rain started. Ordered the famous hot chocolate, 10/10 as expected, an order of fries and the ham & cheese sandwich. With a side of mayo, some salt and pepper, those fries were out of this world! Mayo with with sandwich was 10/10 as well! Skip the hyped Trocadéro location if you're not needing pics for your social media, come here to get in fast and eat yummy food! read more
carette is just like every other overhyped, tourist trappy place in the world - it's over crowded, too expensive, and the food is just ok. at least i got some good insta pics out of it almost makes up for the overstimulation i felt crowded up against so many people while trying to drink the most mid €8 hot chocolate. eclair was pretty good though read more

My fiancé and I had the best hot chocolate of our lives here. It was thick, but not too thick even with the whipped cream. My fiancé got the cappuccino, and he loved it as well. The line does get long, but it goes by fairly quick. Make sure to come early if you don't wanna wait. We were also seated outdoors per our request, which we loved because we had a direct view of Place des Vosges. Overall, it was worth the wait. read more

Fast to get a seating outside. The waiter knew we came for the pastries and chocolat chaud (a hefty 12 euros ~ 13 USD). The menu was a bit confusing and the specials across the walls of the interior and exterior weren't on the menu. (Missed out on some dishes we would have tried). The hot chocolate was great, however, it is something I would experience once with this price tag. Additionally, I wish the croissant was heated up. Super cute spot near a gorgeous park! read more
