Carette was another highlight of my trip to Paris. The escargot was beyond delicious. And while weird mix, the hot chocolate with the whip cream was a must order. It lived up to all the hype. I walked in on a whim during the day and was able to get a table right away. Service was quick and even though I only ordered a couple things, the waitress was attentive and caring. It definitely felt like an older, Parisian vibe, but it was absolutely perfect and should not be missed when you travel to Paris!
I came here with a friend for of course the famous hot chocolate. We waited for about 15-20 minutes and got a nice table outside. The service was a bit slow in my opinion, but it was also very busy here. We each got our own hot chocolate (you can't share). It was super thick in my opinion. It honestly just tasted like melted chocolate in a cup. There was not milk or anything to balance it out the richness of it. The homemade whipped cream it comes with is delicious!!! We each got our own chicken sandwich and that thing was massive. Definitely could've split one, but it was super delicious and I really enjoyed the side of fries as well. This for me is a one time spot and I know most tourists go here. I wouldn't come back here personally.
I went to Carette at lunch time on a Sunday with my friend and we were seated fairly quickly after waiting in the line for standby seating. At this time of day they were sold out of a lot of pastries (including croissants) and were no longer serving breakfast options. We were mainly interested in trying the famous hot chocolate, which was delicious. However, the service was not very attentive and the lack of available items and very high prices made the experience one I would likely not seek out again. We had a bottle of water, two hot chocolates, whipped cream, strawberries, a brioche roll, and a slice of tomato quiche and paid $93 usd for our meal.
One side benefit from staying in Le Marais is that you're closer to the less crowded of the two Carettes in the city. Jamie W and I saw the seemingly endless line awaiting the more famous Trocadero location. That was the valid reason we decided to stop here as part of our stroll around the becalming Place des Vosges. It's in the historic arcade off the northern side of the square. While it drew a steady stream of people, we were able to secure a table on the sidewalk quite easily. The menu was a bit overwhelming. It was more than a patisserie as there were breakfast and lunch options available. Since we had pastries on the brain, we wanted to try their signature items like the Saint-Honore or the Opera, but it turned out they were quite depleted by early afternoon We were able to get the 10,50€ Mille-feuille, a sinfully delicious caramelized puff pastry layered with vanilla pastry cream (Photo 8). We added further decadence with a 6€ Pain au Chocolat and a 5€ Croissant Carette (Photo 7). No arguing it was an extravaganza of carbs and refined sugar. However, the quality of the execution made all the extra cardio worthwhile in the future. Now you might be shocked to find out we didn't order their fabled hot chocolate, the 13,50€ Chocolat Carette Avec de la Chantilly, but even we thought that would be like ordering a dessert upon a dessert. Instead we went with the perfectly fine 10,50€ Cafe Latte au Lait d'Amande with almond milk (Photo 9). We could easily come back for their scrambled eggs or club sandwiches. Ah, we'll always have Paris. Finally made it here after putting it off for a week, and wow... totally worth it. I got the Chocolat Carette and honestly I didn't expect the whole presentation, a cup overflowing with whipped cream, and then the staff pours the hot chocolate right in front of you. Looked spectacular, but once I took that first sip... Oh man. That deep chocolate hit just melted everything else away. Smooth, thick, creamy, a little bitter in the best way. It's like drinking dessert and comfort at the same time. The place was packed, but the line moved fast, we waited around five minutes tops. The vibe inside was warm and cozy. You could tell everyone was just enjoying the moment. Definitely coming back for that chocolate alone.
On a stroll through Paris, I suddenly remembered the viral Tik Tok video of this delicious luxurious hot chocolate at a cafe named Carette. I knew I immediately had to go there and coincidentally we were very close by. Carette is the epitome of a classy french cafe, where you do need to wait a bit to be seated. This picture perfect restaurant had such kind staff and were very patient and attentive. The food was excellent, where I ordered the French Onion Soup. And of course I had to order the Hot Chocolate which was just decadent with the most delicious whipped cream on top. I really do understand the hype of this place now because it really did not disappoint. Would absolutely come back again, and would love to try all the other dishes! 9/10 recommend!
One of the best hot chocolates I've ever had - it was super rich and the whipped cream added more sweetness and made it smoother (if that makes sense). The only suggestion for improvement was the service. Staff were a bit rude and took a while to take our order and brought out the drinks after the crepe, which we found to be a bit odd.
Wow, I was worried that this place was just popular on TikTok and overhyped, but it was fantastic and I am so glad we were able to go for breakfast one morning! Everything we had was fantastic. We each ordered one of the set meals with various courses. It was a bit much to eat croissants, and toast etc (felt like a lot of bread?) but everything was tasty. I had to get the hot chocolate which was out of this world. Also, the eggs were so delicious as was the quiche. We had efficient but good service. We were sat outside, and the restaurant itself is similar to other paris cafes. We would definitely return.

This place is so popular. It's in Place des Vosges. It's really busy but you can just get some snacks to go and sit in the park. The chicken sandwich was good. The small one has no bacon. The eclair was good, too. Very nice place! read more

Who knew a plate of scrambled eggs can be that good? This restaurant is really popular and I had an amazing and filling meal here. Thankfully, when we arrived there wasn't a line but still had to wait about 5 mins. A line quickly formed behind us - we got lucky! I ordered the scrambled eggs with ham and it was delicious. It was cooked to perfection and it was so creamy. They ran out of croissants so I had to settle for the chocolate pastry roll. It was still good. I also wanted to try the onion soup so I got that as well to share. And of course I had to order the hot chocolate. It is a must! It's so rich and chocolately. It wasn't too sweet and was perfect with the cream that it came with. Don't miss out on trying Carette when in Paris. :) read more
Great place to get macarons and wind down at the park! Service was quick and pleasant. The surrounding is beautiful and near Victor Hugo's old apartment. This location is in Le Marais and gets easily packed. I suggest getting macarons to go and sit at the park. Plenty of macaron flavors to choose from. I had the salted caramel, pistachio, cherry, and something tangy like lemon. The Viennese coffee was just ok. Would definitely go back for macarons! read more

My favorite fancy tearoom in Paris! One of the best places for millefeuille in Paris and also a good spot for simple but fancy classic French lunch meals. We tried their onion soup as well as their version of the croque-monsieur. It was really good and perfect portions. They also offer a real good brunch formula (31 euros) on a daily basis. Right across Place des Voges, Carette has an extensive menu. But what you're really coming here for is their Chocolat "Cadette" - thick, semi-sweet, semi-bitter, truly decadent, especially with the chantilly cream. So, are you Team Angelina or Team Carette? read more
Did you know!? There's a scene of Emily in Paris that took place at the jardin across the street. Whenever I see the scene, I squeal because Carette is RIGHT THERE! Carette has easily become my favorite brunch spot in Paris! Especially this location. It has a nice view of the jardin and is nestled under the arched building. I recommend dining out when the weather is nice. It's beautiful. I some how discovered Carette during my first trip in Paris. Something about the scrambled eggs caught my eye. And the rest has been history. Hubby and I have been dining here multiple times throughout our many trips to Paris for brunch and occasionally some tea! What we order: + Scrambled "Oeufs" Eggs with ham & cheese: this plate is very fulfilling and the hubby has always had to help me finish it (hint: share this plate!). These eggs are on the wet side which are light and fluffy! I like spreading the eggs along some complimentary bread and butter which is delicious! + Croque Monsieur/Madame: it's the prettiest ham & cheese sandwich I've ever had. It's delicious but the only con (due to preference) is that the bread is on the sweeter side. I like my croques on a sourdough slice. With that said, I have eaten this dish on multiple occasions. Hubby also enjoyed his. + Pastries! Plain croissants, pain au chocolat, macarons,... etc. They're all worth trying out! + Ceylon The: A fragrant ceylon tea which makes for a nice cup(s) of warm goodness! I always request a side of cream. On two different occasions, they have given me regular milk (or maybe it was cream?) and a mountain of chantilly cream which went best with my tea. Service here is usually a hit. Some of the servers can be a little snooty when they feel like they need to speak English but I haven't had any issues with my French speaking hubby around. All the food is served exceptionally. It's on the pricier side for brunch and tea but it's worth it for the entire experience. Cheers! read more

My fiancé and I had the best hot chocolate of our lives here. It was thick, but not too thick even with the whipped cream. My fiancé got the cappuccino, and he loved it as well. The line does get long, but it goes by fairly quick. Make sure to come early if you don't wanna wait. We were also seated outdoors per our request, which we loved because we had a direct view of Place des Vosges. Overall, it was worth the wait. read more

I came here years ago and ate outside in the sun the most wonderful salad ever! This time i returned but it was freezing so I ate inside. There was a small wait but the staff was very friendly and three of the waiters greeted me and said hello despite the fact that it was very busy! I only had an onion soup but it was very good! The desserts look amazing! I was full but id i had not been i would totally have some! There was also a place to hang hats and coats! Unfortunately no internet: one star less for that because in Paris this would be appreciated ! read more

I literally traveled to Paris just to dine at this café and try the famous hot chocolate. Totally worth it! The pastries we had were divine. The crepes were not our favorite, but once we added sugar and a little whipped cream it wasn't bad at all. But the hot chocolate was the star of the show! It was incredible!!! So chocolatey, creamy and smooth. Worth the trip. The staff wasn't the friendliest But we did fine there twice so all is good. read more

carette is just like every other overhyped, tourist trappy place in the world - it's over crowded, too expensive, and the food is just ok. at least i got some good insta pics out of it almost makes up for the overstimulation i felt crowded up against so many people while trying to drink the most mid €8 hot chocolate. eclair was pretty good though read more

Stopped in for an afternoon snack before an appointment, luckily just as the rain started. Ordered the famous hot chocolate, 10/10 as expected, an order of fries and the ham & cheese sandwich. With a side of mayo, some salt and pepper, those fries were out of this world! Mayo with with sandwich was 10/10 as well! Skip the hyped Trocadéro location if you're not needing pics for your social media, come here to get in fast and eat yummy food! read more

Fast to get a seating outside. The waiter knew we came for the pastries and chocolat chaud (a hefty 12 euros ~ 13 USD). The menu was a bit confusing and the specials across the walls of the interior and exterior weren't on the menu. (Missed out on some dishes we would have tried). The hot chocolate was great, however, it is something I would experience once with this price tag. Additionally, I wish the croissant was heated up. Super cute spot near a gorgeous park! read more

Absolutely worth the hype! I was seated quickly despite the long line, and my waiter was patient when taking my order as I fumbled through my messy French. I came here for the hot chocolate, which you MUST get with whipped cream. It was decadent and rich without being too overwhelming. I also had the French onion soup, which was the perfect balance to the sweet drink. It was savory, with a magnificent cheese pull that I'll be dreaming about until I'm back for more. read more
Yes yea yes to Carette's hot chocolate with the cream on the side and add as desired. Not overly sweet just perfect. The hype is real this place is great and the service is friendly, down to earth ambience not pretentious like other similar places on the area. We tried them all and my hot chocolate obsess big kid preferred Carette over the others. read more
Came to this place because of TikTok. One of the better hot Chocolates I've tried. I'd say it's still rich and creamy but not as thing and deep as the hot chocolate as Angelina's. I can go through a hot chocolate here and not feel gross or full after. Place was packed but service is fast. I'd return. read more

This place was so good! There was a line but it went by fairly quickly. The manager kept the line moving and the servers spoke English which was great for us since our French is definitely not great past hello goodbye and thank you. Like most places in Paris the tables are very close together and the seating is indoor and outdoor. The food was good as well and came out quickly. We went two separate times and had the hot chocolate, a chicken sandwich, macarons and probably the most delicious pastry I've ever had in my life! We'll be returning to Paris in February and I would definitely go again! read more

The hot chocolate definitely is very good, but it is so rich that you need a cup of milk with it. The croissant was also very good. There are 1 million other places for hot chocolate, so I would never wait in that line. We just cut the line and got in, but if we didn't cut the line I wouldn't of went. read more

This place was HEAVEN! We were seated quickly, and our server was very friendly! We ordered the Hot Chocolat with whipped cream, Croissant, Pan Au Chocolate, Eclair and Paris Carette. The hot chocolate was creamy, not too sweet and they offer a huge serving of whipped cream. The croissant and eclair were delicious... BUT the PARIS CARETTE was just amazing! It was fluffy, creamy and delicious! I recommend coming in before 9am to avoid wait lines. read more
Service was kind & surprisingly quick given French culture. The eggs with ham were life changing. How is that little chive and puff pastry so fresh?! The eggs were incredibly airy and light, never had any on that level. Tea came hot and was delicious. Only didnt like the teapot set up since it didnt allow for me to remove the leaf basket, resulting in over-steeped tea at a certain point. My wife still talks about these eggs. read more

Rule #1 Don't order Sandwiches at a Restaurant in Paris get a Gyro. But if you do happen to order a sandwich Carette does a have a decent Poulet Club Sandwich and Fries. Rule #2 Always Order Chocolate Viennoise or Chocolate Chaud (au pronounced like ode, if you say it wrong they will make you repeat yourself until it occurs to them what it is you're trying to say) if your lactose intolerant. (fun fact warming milk breaks down the sugars that make your tummy hurt so warm milk is less likely to hurt you) Hands down my best hot chocolate in Paris. Lives up to the TikTok and Instagram aesthetic hype with the flavor and the aesthetic. It is crowded even midday on a Monday, so be prepared. And the black lady server was soooo sweet bc the old man was très français, pas mean but français. Anyways I would go back. read more

The line was long but went quick. Although the price of hot chocolate was over priced. It was €12 for one class of hot chocolate. We checked it out because it was popular on TikTok but for the aesthetic I would say it was worth it and I would give it a try at least once. & everything tasted delicious! read more
