An absolute gem here in Idaho. Came here a couple of weeks ago for the first time. Not originally from here, but their sandwiches are FIRE. It's an absolutely amazing sandwich spot filled with great vibes and tasty food. I, also highly recommend getting the lemonade if you ever get the chance because it's very tart and sweet. As for what we got from the menu, we got the PB&JJB w/ tomato soup ($12) and Peruvian sandwich w/ chips ($14.50). Overall, I would say we were highly satisfied with our meal and for what we paid for. The Turkey Boursin is my favorite sandwich and I like to get the half sandwich combo with a the savory oats side and a strawberry basil lemonade ($11.75). The Turkey sandwich has a creamy cheese, fruit jam, and roasted garlic. The savory oats are like a risotto -- it's unlike any other type of oatmeal I've ever had. Simply delicious! The salads here are HUGE. For me, goat cheese is one of those ingredients that whenever I see it on a menu- I order it-- so I love getting the Beet Salad. During my most recent trip I enjoyed the wonderful Massaman Curry Banh Mi (roasted yams, spicy house made peanut butter sauce, cucumber, jalapeños, pickled carrot, daikon radish, spicy curry aioli and cilantro, $12.99). I will shamefully admit that I am one of those individuals whose taste buds turn away from most menu items that presents as *vegan.* Not sure why, it just doesn't appeal to me! SEATING: Three or four tables seating about 12 people total on main floor, about half a dozen high stools at the open kitchen counter (also pre-ordered pick up location) and more high stools along front windows. More seating at tables up a flight of stairs in balcony. Seating on sidewalk area too in good weather months. DRILL: Chalkboards adjacent to order counter list many sandwich and side options. Order taker was "all business", not unlike a fast-casual-chain interaction. They may warm up with time but we missed friendly welcome of local-owned-style. They opened with "call your name when ready' but recently upgraded service to deliver to your table. And awkward warpy-wooden planks used for food when first open have been replaced with sturdy metal trays lined with parchment. The owner of the place seems to think he can get away with making off colored jokes about people as well. I was very dissatisfied when he offered my wife a footrub to go with her order. Picture this: you're enjoying your meal when suddenly, the manager decides it's time to put on a show. Right there, in front of the entire dining room, they publicly shame and reprimand their staff as if they were naughty children. It's a cringe-worthy spectacle that leaves a sour taste in your mouth long after the meal is over. As if that weren't enough, the employees themselves wear the weight of this oppressive atmosphere like a heavy cloak. You can see it in their eyes - the resignation, the defeat. It's as if they've accepted their fate as second-class citizens in this culinary dictatorship. And let's not forget about the food - or lack thereof. The only thing more stale than the cibatta bread they try to pass off as "fresh" is the management's attitude towards their workers. It's a toxic blend of apathy and arrogance that leaves a bitter aftertaste with every bite. You can clearly tell that the menu is dictated by the owner and not the obviously culinarily trained chef. This little place in Boise is a gem. They have gluten-free vegan bread available for their sandwiches (yes, gf AND vegan) that is soft and tender. No dry crumbly gf bread that can't hold up to the fillings. Speaking of fillings...ohmygawd. I had their Sausage & Pear Sandwich on gluten free bread with their side salad (an original for sure). It's one of my top 3 sandwiches of all time. And don't miss their homemade lemonades - so refreshingly good! I loved the food so much, I went back there for lunch the very next day! It was pretty big for only being half a sandwich. The soup was super flavorful and totally hit the spot on a cold winter day. I'm not the biggest fan of hipster places but this one was super cute with 1.5 floors and plenty of sunlight. Our drinks were brought to our table as we were sitting down. The food came about 7 minutes later and they were super busy when we were there. We had the hardest time deciding because every option looked better than the last. We both got a combo (great deal!) 1/2 deluxe sandwich, full side of choice and lemonade. You can be more fancy and upgrade to beer, wine or one of their amazing lemosas (lemonade + bubbles). My buddy got the Pastrami Reuben with tomato basil bisque and I got the Sausage & Pear with the beet salad. Neither could be improved upon. The Reuben had the best pastrami...which I don't even like. The slaw on it was amazing. Slightly spicy but with a perfect pickle. My Sausage and Pear was awesome. Loved the unique combo. Both our sides were simple but packed with flavor. This ain't your minute maid powder beverage, this is dang-good, fresh, made from real fruit lemonade. And, it is so reasonable, $2 a glass! Yesterday that strawberry lemonade popped in my head and it wouldn't leave me be. I decided to go and pick some up and along with it, a sandwich. The gal at the register told me she recommended the sausage and pear. I am so glad she did--crumbly and savory sausage, goat cheese, greens, pears, and some kind of sweet chutney of sorts. What a treat! I ordered it on GF bread, which upped the price by $1.75. The sandwich also came with a side (there are like 4 different options to choose from). The inside of this shop is adorable. Oh my gosh! Even better this time around... My first trip was for the Yelp event, which I loved! But this time I got to see that the owner really IS as awesome as he appeared at the event. He was behind the counter, making sandwiches, when we walked in. Huge smile and asked if we'd been in, when I told him just for the Yelp event he was glad I was back! We talked about all the sandwiches that were a hit, but I couldn't stray from my favorite and had the half Turkey Boursin combo with tomato basil soup and raspberry lemosa. My husband tried the special, a Spicy Thai Basil Beef, with the Lemon Tree salad and a Mother Earth beer. First - the lemosa was SO refreshing. A little sour, but mostly bubbly and sweet. Perfect for a warm fall day. Then the tomato basil soup was just so good. You could tell it was homemade. And the sandwich was perfect. A half is really plenty!! My meal came out to $14.50. Super good deal for all the food. The Thai beef sandwich was on point! SPICY! So, be sure to have a beer with it. my husband only ate half of his too.
