Everything we had was 5 star rating. And the wine selection, was incredible. Bordeaux Blanc and the Pinot Noir we absolutely loved. Please, don't let price dissuade you from coming here. You truly do get what you pay for, and in our minds the value is definitely there. Plus, you take home what you don't finish and get to continue the enjoyment! For some reason, we were seated in a corner booth near the bathrooms, while other customers were seated elsewhere in the restaurant. We didn't mind, however, because it was nice and quiet. And, for me, convenient. My wife had the Sirloin Salad, and I had the Ahi Poke Salad. My wife said that her meat was cooked the way she likes it, and the rest of the ingredients were delicious. For me, the ahi, sesame vinaigrette dressing, wonton strips, onions, and greens were very good. The food is always good at The Tavern. And, the prices are reasonable. Unlike our past experiences, the service this time around was not up to our usual. Our server, Hannah C., seemed in a rush and impatient. Though she told us to ask her if we had questions, I didn't find her responses to be pleasant. The first dish my wife was interested in had Boursin cheese. My wife had not heard of it, and she cannot eat a lot of cheese. She preferred something milder, like mozarella. When she inquired of Hannah, the reply was terse. "We don't have mozarella." "Do you have another milder cheese?" "Like what?" Not in a nice way, and not professional, in my opinion. And, she was loud. We waited longer than usual for our food, and when Hannah brought it, she just dropped the plates and split. To her credit, she did check in on us once during our meal. Now I don't know what kind of day Hannah was having. Maybe not so good. I don't know what kind of person she is, and I'll give her the benefit of the doubt that she is a nice woman. Hopefully she is not like how she was with us to all of her customers. I'm a 20% tipper. For her, it was 18%. I wasn't given a choice, but I would have gone down to 15%.

The salad was fresh, though some of the veggie toppings looked and tasted a little old...the ranch dressing was the standard ranch, just average. Their chicken salad sandwich was very good, though a tad under seasoned...needed pepper or salt. Their chicken salad sandwich veggies were super fresh and the bread was thick and soft. My husband was not a fan of the country fried steak. He said that it was obviously a previously frozen reheated vendor-type meal... he expected that, but not such a low-grade frozen flavor. After the waiter took the order from the group next to us he took our drink order. Again I'm forced to get up before we get our drinks because he's chatting with another employee and ask if we can order our food again telling him we are starving. He gave us some bread, but the food came out in a strange order. First the pizza (we never got our fried zucchini app) then our side salads over flowing with dressing, then our wife's meals. Our wife's were just watching us eat our pizza, because it would have got cold if we waited for them. It took 45 mins to get our food from when we ordered. Then I hear from the group next to us (they got there before us) tell the waiter we can't wait anymore can you just box up our food? The restaurant was only about half full, there shouldn't be this issue. We had a lot of time to look around waiting for our food, I noticed paint chipping all over, a lot of dust, some lights were missing their glass covers and the ones that did were covered with fingerprints. Just not the level of cleanliness would expect for a place that serves food. Shut the restaurant down for one day and clean and do some maintenance. The food is just ok, it's definitely not worth the wait. It seems like the Chef needs to get his stuff together. Which Segways into: The focaccia seemed "day old and dry" almost crunchy. It should be warm and fresh at an Italian restaurant. My chicken piccata was pink. I didn't realize how pink the chicken was until I looked at my leftovers the next day. I threw it out to make sure I didn't get sick. It was a really a very personal touch and it is awesome and you get to keep the menu and they will put it in a plastic sleeve to help protect it. From the moment we walked in we were treated very well. When you first walk in, you will see their beautiful bar fully stocked and well maintained. The dining room is beautiful with chandeliers adorning the ceiling. It is hard to believe that this place was once Western Proper. Nathan was our server and he was excellent. He gave us a run down of the menu and how they chose the best ingredients for their dishes. For drinks, we got the Raspberry Kiss, Huckleberry Pad and For Whom the Bell Tolls. They were all delicious. The bread... of man the bread was so so so good. If we weren't there for an actual meal, I could have eaten 5 baskets of that bread. Then I went for the special soup of the day, salmon chowder. So flavorful and had lots of salmon in it. Then, on to the main course. They had a special today and it was Salmon Tonkatsu and my husband had the 6 oz filet mignon with a delicious brandy sauce and they did a little fire show with the sauce. Everything was cooked perfectly and was delicious. We ended the meal with a delicious Grandfather Port and a small cheese and fruit plate. This place was amazing. The only downside, of course, are the prices. This is definitely a special occasion place but we were extremely pleased... and extremely stuffed. We will be back, absolutely.
