I have had my fair share of impeccably prepared foods in my life with all the traveling that I've done and my Italian and French background. All I have to say is, I think that Boise is a very, very lucky City to have Susina as part of the community of restaurants here. This is the first time in a very long time that I have literally left a restaurant pining for more food despite my full belly! It was my birthday weekend and a friend and I decided that we were going to finally make a reservation to eat at Susina having heard so many wonderful things about it , and all of the Great experiences that others have had after dining there. We started with a bottle of St. Hilaire. It is a nice young, bright, sparkling, crisp, dry, wine from France and one of my staples! I was very happy to see it on the menu. I was dreaming about the Beef Carpaccio as I don't often get to have it here in Boise but only when I travel to Italy. They prepared it paper thin (of course), as it should be, with a preserved, Meyer lemon aioli and pickled red onions and an herb salad which really took it over the top! I usually enjoy Beef Carpaccio on a bed of arugula, but I really appreciated the herbaceousness of the salad and how absolutely fresh and deep the flavors were. The beef was perfectly cool in temperature and the pickled red onions and lemon aioli were in perfect balance with the beef and herbs. Delicious! This is definitely now one of the things on their menu that I'll be craving moving forward. My friend and I decided we were going to each get a first course, a main course, and a dessert. For the first course, we got the crab risotto. The Wild Rock crab was so perfectly fresh and sweet, and I really appreciated the roundness of the mascarpone herb oil. The risotto was of the utmost silkiness and it was perfectly cooked. This dish was also impeccable and gorgeous to look at. The second dish that we chose to share was the Potato Gnocchi. I make my own at home, but I use ricotta cheese instead to make light, little, fluffy pillows and I hadn't had a good Potato Gnocchi in a very, very long time and I absolutely love the potato kind. They were the absolute perfect size. Perfect. The truffled mushrooms were to die for. This was perfection in my opinion. Love all the shaved Parmesan on top as well. We went for it and for the main course we got the Wagyu Coulotte. Omg! This was absolutely divine. It was cooked to an absolute,perfect, medium, rare and it was so tender that it just melted in my mouth. The mashed potatoes were whipped to perfection and the spring vegetables, grilled, lovingly and absolutely everything that we had was seasoned so nicely. I feel the chef understands his salt and I appreciate that deeply. Too many dishes at some restaurants go under seasoned and sometimes chefs can also over do the salt, but this was just the perfect amount. I'll be dreaming about this steak for months! Onto the Pan Roasted Halibut. It was served with herbed, brown, rice and a beurre blanc sauce with spring vegetables. So much flavor here! The brown rice was cooked just perfectly, the spring vegetables had a bit of caramelization and the beurre blanc sauce was delicate and creamy and complimented the Halibut perfectly. The fish was very nicely prepared and full of flavor and balance. Onto dessert, where we enjoyed the Bruleed cheesecake with strawberry sauce . (Sorry I cannot add the accents to Bruleed--- my phone doesn't have a French keyboard). Ha! The cheesecake was light and creamy and I loved that caramelized brulee on the top. Very special indeed. We also tried the lemon tart with toasted meringue. It was divinely acidic (of course) and the crust was buttery and had the best texture! The toasted meringue was stunning aesthetically and tasted delicious as well! Well I'm pretty sure this is one of the longest reviews I've ever written on Yelp but it was worth every top of my finger and minute of my time. Oh wait I'm not done! The chef, ambiance and wait staff are all top notch! Chef Cardoza is hitting it out of the park with his food and just made a major mark on Boise I'm so happy we have an approachable, romantic, cozy, well decorated, spotless, location to enjoy his food. Our waiter was from France and lots of fun to talk with. He was very attentive and had great timing and knowledge of the menu. Every member of the staff that we interacted with were professional, very, very friendly, and very grateful that we were there which is a huge bonus! Sometimes that's rare these days. Visited Susina on Wednesday Feb 4th. The dining and service experience was exceptional. Our server, Darcy, was so pleasant, easy to talk to, informative, and simply fantastic. She anticipated so well, and made the experience just flow effortlessly. The food was phenomenal, and the best we've had in Boise in a very long time. Croquetas, Brussels Salad, Gnocchi, Steelhead Trout, Flat Iron Steak, Lemon Tart, Vegan Apple Crisp.....unbelievable in the combination of flavor, texture, and ingredients. Everything we had was 5 star rating. And the wine selection, was incredible. Bordeaux Blanc and the Pinot Noir we absolutely loved. Please, don't let price dissuade you from coming here. You truly do get what you pay for, and in our minds the value is definitely there. Plus, you take home what you don't finish and get to continue the enjoyment! The atmosphere can only be described as cool, comfortable, easy. They just weren't trying so hard if that make any sense, and it was so nice. For our first course, we ordered the Beets and Ricotta Salad and the Fettucine Saisiccia. The Beet Salad was a generous portion of red and golden beets with citrus, hazelnuts, mint and ricotta. The fettucine and sausage are both handmade in house and are both delicate and delicious. I ordered the Wagyu Flat Iron steak with au poivre sauce, mashed potatoes and winter vegetables. Each part of my entrée was executed perfectly. The Snake River Farms Wagyu was exactly medium rare and was tender and flavorful. The Joël Robuchon style mashed potatoes were smooth as velvet, light and buttery. My partner ordered the Cassoulet with braised duck leg, house-made bacon lardons, house sausage, Mayocoba beans, celery root and herb oil. The Wagyu was definitely the stand out of the evening. While I prefer duck confit in a cassoulet, to the braised duck preparation that they offered, it was still very good. Finally, we chose the brûléed cheesecake with strawberry sauce for dessert. The caramelized sugar crust on the cheesecake was beyond heavenly. Pro-Tip: Reservations are recommended. Susina's chef, Alex Cardoza, was just nominated as a semifinalist for best chef Mountain Division by James Beard Award for 2026 and they are very popular. What an amazing find and hidden gem in Boise! My wife was driving by here in the Garden City area a week ago and came across this place so of course looked it up on Yelp! and had to give it a try. Tucked away off the main road is the completely remodeled house into restaurant with an amazing outdoor seating area complete with private outdoor garden room for rent for private parties. Inside is what I would say classic but modern Italian with great ambiance and decor. The menu is limited and changes frequently so I have been told but beware this is a 3 course meal complete with desert and you won't go away hungry. My wife had the eggplant lasagna and I had the New York steak and potatoes. We both started with the melon and feta salad and ended with the homemade cheesecake and berry topping. I will say this is one of the better meals I have had in a long time. Every bite was delicious from beginning till end! Service was a 5 out of 5 star! Everything about this experience would have me coming back time and time again! This is a for sure must stop for any local or any visitor I promise you won't be disappointed! I'm shocked at how good the reviews are. I've been excited about this one for months and could have had a better time with a burger. Food was pretty dry with very little sauces or seasoning. Husband had the most beautiful piece of fish but had no seasoning or sauce accompaniment. Wagyu beef was tough and crab risotto didn't seem to have any crab. Service was about the same - no pleasantries just eat and get out. Waited about 40 minutes before I was offered a wine refill. Ambiance was lovely but you are packed in tight. My husband sat shoulder to shoulder with another gentleman on the booth side. Some diners were sat on a dusty porch with no view or light - just cobwebs and dirt. Once named Wild Plum (best known for top notch catering services) and now named Susina (conveniently, this is Wild Plum in Italian), offering "European-American Comfort Kitchen" point of view (per their marketing materials) for 4-course prix fixe dinners @ $75 / pp (before tax and tip) Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights starting at 5:45 p.m. Reservations highly advised. BOTTOM LINE: Worth every dollar for the fabulous food and professional service. The 4 star hitch in the 5 star potential is, for us, the space itself. Husband and wife owners, chef Alex Cardoza and Tara Morgan , have done some unique things to what was once an old timey restaurant (a Dutch Babies place maybe, as I remember it) building to spruce up the interior and add some enclosed tent type structures in the casual garden space outside. But it is limitations in the inside ambiance, a fine dining experience includes that element in total assessment, that held us back from perfect. COST: 2 diners @ $75 ea + 1 house created soda + 1 glass of wine + tax + tip = @ $230+. Hence our expectation, given price point, for ambiance to fit the rest. MENU & FOOD: Multi page, cleverly designed, menu offering a handful of options for each of the four courses is delivered to the table on arrival. (See my photo of menu used when we were there.) They source locally, as much as possible, and change the menu occasionally for seasonal fit. All four courses are ordered at one time. My husband and I each chose a different option from each other for all 4 courses and of the 8 dishes there was only one less than perfect for us. (The prosciutto with the stone fruit and burrata 1st course was sliced too thick so was chewy.) Of standout note, the hollandaise that came in small pitcher with my husband's steelhead and roasted veg main course, and as nice touch poured over by server tableside, was so delectable that I was tempted to try to drink the remainder out of the little pitcher. And trust me on this, order the panna cotta with wild plum gelee for dessert! (I took photos of all 8 dishes and posted them.) LIBATIONS: A couple of beer options, several creative 0 ABV offerings and a small but well curated wine list by glass and bottle across price points. Perhaps no surprise knowing owners are related to the man who was the engine behind wonderful local wine retailer, Boise CoOp Wine shop. (We had the privilege to learn a lot from this man as Wine CoOp members.) SERVICE: Professional if not warm and each course was perfectly paced wjth server checking in at each course. Plan 2 hours'ish for the four courses. This is 30% gratuity range for us when service like this is combined with splendid food. VIBE: Noting some have commented on the unkempt garden spaces, I think that may be intended, for a rustic setting that fits the old building. The interior is small with one main dining room and an overflow area. (Where we were seated. More to follow.) Close together tables are bare wood with a real candle that drips wax in an artful touch on each. The four top next to us looked like the table surface needed cleaning. Ambiance was a little American home coupled with Italian country flair. A big miss for us was the music on sound system on our night that included artists like Tina Turner, Beach Boys and Paul Simon - all of whom we enjoy but didn't fit here - at a too loud volume, at least in the overflow space where we were seated. PARKING: Lot at back of building. Entry to the front door is up a ramp off the parking lot. ACCESSIBILITY: No ADA / Idaho Access Code parking in lot. ADA rules are 35 years old, the next two buildings over have the required parking so hard to fathom that owners don't know this is needed. It would be simple and inexpensive to do here involving mostly paint for spot and access aisle striping. (I have had multiple sclerosis since college so I have dog in this hunt.) When making (online) reservations they asked if anyone in the party had mobility limits. I replied yes and " thanks in advance for not giving me the worst seat in the house". A tongue in cheek comment because that happens SO often to those of us who are diners with disabilities. Alas, although we arrived at opening for reservations made 3 weeks in advance, instead of being offered a table in the nicer main dining room, we were put by ourselves in the overflow room where we remained as the only diners until for more than an hour until it seems a walk in party of 4 tourists was seated in this room. This kind of social segregation, whether intended or not, is dispiriting. It is not EQUAL access as ADA intends. Loo is accessibile. OUTSIDE SEATING: Aforementioned tents in garden. I had really wanted to like this place, but for $70 a person without drinks or bread, I feel like it's way too pricey. Also, there was a table very close to us that was quite loud and it felt like they were there for happy hour. Okay- imagine you are in the movie ratatouille in Paris. This is completely the vibe, the minute I walked in I felt like I was transported back to my trip to Paris. I got the best margarita I have ever had with fresh cantaloupe juice & I have had many margaritas. The food was unbelievable. I think they could of spread us apart at that point. I owned and have worked in 5 star restaurants so I get seating in a small place. When I booked it was $75 a person. Then it went up to $85 and that's what we were charged. Then add $5 if you get the steak. We were second two top seating and immediately told there was no bread appetizer. They have two apps...bread or almonds. So that was a little disappointing to start. It was good flavor. Good food. Good service. Portions were decent but not big by any stretch. Dessert wasn't my fav. I got the plum dessert. I feel it was WAY overpriced for what we got. My husband agrees. Another friend went the night before and said the same thing. If you get wine, coffee or any other add on be prepared to pay $300 plus on dinner. read more

Susina is open Thursday-Saturday for a four course Prix-fixe dinner, with a number of excellent options for each course. For the first course we tried the beet salad and the apricot salad. Both were fresh and delicious. I especially enjoyed the apricot salad because of the fresh herbs including tarragon, parsley and mint. For the second course we ordered the roasted shishitos and the pesto pasta. Both were very good. The entrees we selected were the brisket and the eggplant Parmesan. The brisket was accompanied by fresh succotash with local corn. For dessert we had lemon tart and cheese cake. Portion sizes were perfect...service was attentive and warm. The two small dining rooms are charming with mismatched china and traditional art. A highlight of dinner was the wine list. The selection by the glass was excellent. We shared four glasses including the rose, a white and two reds. I especially enjoyed the rose and white. Don't be put off by the weedy garden in front of the restaurant (makes the place look abandoned). It is the only negative to an amazing dining experience. read more
