I'd heard about this place for a while and for some reason it always slipped my mind whenever I wanted to eat somewhere. Well, I've finally made it to see what all the buzz was about.
When I first walked in I immediately noticed how very comfortable the setting was. The decor was nice, welcoming, and relaxing at the same time.
Looking over the menu I must say that I had a hard time narrowing down what to try for my first time there. SOOOO many things on the menu looked absolutely delicious!! After much internal deliberation, and a few games of paper rock scissors within my head, I finally narrowed my dish down to the Shrimp Ravioli In Rosemary Egg Pasta and a side salad. I also ordered the Leaf Lemonade.
The ravioli was absolutely delicious. I could immediately taste the excellent quality of the homemade fresh pasta dough used to make the ravioli. The shrimp and roasted garlic stuffing was also delicious. Each ravioli was a nice size and they each contained the perfect amount of stuffing per ravioli to where they had great flavor, but also to where they had the perfect balance between being too heavy and too light. The Mediterranean Tomato Pomodoro Sauce used also had a great flavor to it. My one complaint about the dish itself was that although the sauce was excellent, the sauce has a very rich flavor to it. The amount of sauce that was used on the ravioli kind of over powered the shrimp taste that I was hoping to get. I would recommend using less sauce on this dish, or maybe using a sauce that's lighter in flavor and is not as rich. I thought that both the pasta and the sauce were excellent in their own right, but that the dish could use some tweaking and it could be perfect.
I prefer to give places like this "5 stars" when they're good. I respect local places like this that make everything homemade and with great quality. The reason this place isn't getting 5 stars from me is because of service. I ordered a side dinner salad and I was asked if I wanted the salad before my pasta arrived. I told them yes and they said they'd have it out to me ASAP. Not only did I not receive it before the pasta arrived, but they didn't even bring it with the pasta. I had to explain to them that I ordered a side salad and then they went back and brought me a salad. Now, one of my biggest pet peeves at any restaurant is when they bring me a salad with my meal, or they bring me my meal right after they dropped off the salad and I'm still in the middle of eating it. Bringing it after you bring me my meal is completely unacceptable.
My next complaint with the service was that I had many staff members around me cleaning up tables and socializing with other tables, while at the same time my Leaf Lemonade was empty... twice. I had to try and get someones attention and I should never have to do that as a patron at a restaurant, especially when these same staff members are stopping at other tables not not mine. I mean come on... my drink was empty twice??
This isn't a complaint, but I'd recommend this place for lunch over dinner because of the portion sizes. They provide the perfect lunch sizes, but when eating the entrees for dinner they seemed a bit small to me. I think it would be beneficial to offer a larger dinner size entree. In a way, that's sort of a compliment because I wanted to keep eating the food and I didn't feel like it was enough for me. I'd definitely order a lunch size version during the day and I'd order a larger version for an extra cost for dinner if they'd offered that.
Overall, I thought the food here was great. I'd definitely go back and I'm looking forward to trying many of the other dishes on the menu. Outside of a few service issues I had, the overall experience was good and I'd recommend this place. read more
