The Lemon Leaf Cafe is the Best Restaurant in the AV! My wife and I go there at least every other week since Maria Elena Grado opened. The food is so, so good! We love the salads, pastas, and the BBQ Chicken pizza! I have eaten BBQ chicken pizza at several places and her pizza is the best! The brownies are to die for. Overall the Lemon Leaf serves good food and I enjoy eating there, but it is way overpriced. Dinner for two and a child's plate cost $70, which is way too much money when sitting in a little cafe. The food is not quite worth the price. In addition, the children's food is horrendous. My daughter wanted to enjoy pasta for dinner, so I ordered her a child's angel hair pasta with red sauce. Well, the red sauce was most likely pizza sauce and after tasting how bad it was I sent it back. Then, we ordered the Alfredo sauce, which was even worse. It was completely tasteless! I couldn't stomach eating those dishes, so why would they think kids would enjoy them? The only other option was to order buttered noodles, which is not an acceptable dinner. My daughter ended up sharing my pasta, but we were never offered anything to compensate for the child's dinner we paid for but could not eat. I was very disappointed with my service. I was taken here on a date by my friend who assumed I'd never been and was pleasantly surprised to see some less expensive items had been added to the menu since I was last here. We got the BBQ Pizza and some lemonade icees which were all so delicious (the dessert I had last visit just wasn't their best dish). Unfortunately as myself and a few others have pointed out in prior reviews, the staff (aside from the one man of color who worked there) wasn't exactly friendly. We stood in line waiting for the woman to tell us we were next so as rush her or assume she was ready to take our order but she kinda just stood there looking at us like we were stupid instead of verbally announcing she was ready to take our order like, I don't know, literally every other food place. So sad to say nothing has changed regarding the weird atmosphere set by the lack of friendly and enthusiastic customer service. How hard is it to ask with a smile, "Hello, how may I serve you?" This place was around before I could even legally work but I'm sure I've provided 1000% better customer service in my mere 8 years of being apart of the workforce. Please do better. Yummo! This is my 3rd visit here in 3 days...tried the cranberry and Turkey Cobb the first couple of times, Amazing! Tonight tried the chicken and mushroom fettuchini, but with penne pasta instead. They messed up the order at first. How they dealt with the mixup was Excellent customer service! Came out to apologize for the mistake and offered for me to take home the original food as a courtesy. Then they offered free dessert as well. I was way too full to accept the offer of dessert so they asked if I wanted it to go! I didn't accept but it's the effort to make things right that earns my stars! Fantastic! One itty bitty thing about the food..pasta water could have used a tad more seasoning...chicken and mushrooms with sauce seasoned perfectly! read more

The food is pretty good but this restaurant is seriously confused.... The staff has to ask each customer "Have you been here before?" if not they have to explain to you what to do. You order from a menu but not from your table, you have to go up to the counter where you order and pay first... Would you like 1 beer tonight or maybe two? how about dessert? and the tip? You better know EXACTLY what you want or bring cash and be prepared to visit the counter several times, as I ended up doing. During my visit when I arrived there were between 10 and 12 people all standing around near the counter trying to figure out what to eat while looking over the menu. I mentioned to the person who took my order that the whole process was a bit weird and I was told "Everyone hates it but the owner absolutely refuses to change it." Lemon Leaf has sit down quality food, with moderate prices, you order from a menu so please, just let me sit down, relax let me take my time and come by and take my order at the table... Or get rid of the menu, the wine and the beer and put up a large board with less expensive food. If you took Starbucks, removed the menu board added an actual menu, wine and decent food you have Lemon Leaf. read more

I have had 3 experiences with the Lemon Leaf. I have eaten here twice for lunch and just bought a cake for a co-workers going away party. Both lunches there were fairly good, I was little underwhelmed with their pasta and they are quite pricey. It is a cute environment and very busy! They have a nice bakery and upscale gourmet grocery section as well. My co-worker loves their chocolate cake (it is very, very chocolately!) and was super happy to have it at her party. My first and last visit! This place can't decide what it wants to be, fine dining (white tablecloths), a bakery, or fast food. You have to stand in line at the end of the bakery counter to order your food. This line blocks the hallway to the restrooms and back door. (Restrooms are locked, so you have to request a key from the person taking the food orders.) Food is then brought to your table. I ordered the torpedo wrap, described as salami with lettuce, tomato, onions, and olives. What arrived was was a foot long wrap, cut in half. Looked impressive and tasted satisfactory ------for a lettuce salad. Unwrapping it, that's what I found--mostly lettuce. I saw the equivalent of one thin slice of salami cut in thin strips and one olive chopped in minuscule pieces. Next time I want lettuce I'll go to the grocery store! It will be a lot cheaper. read more

Overall, I love Lemon Leaf Cafe. The food is always great but I have to agree with other reviewers regarding service. The employees are always pleasant but you may need to shoot off a flare to get table side attention from the wait staff. I have only be to the LLC during lunch hour and the decision to have the patrons order at the counter is a deterrent. If I see a long line (anywhere) I think twice about going in and this is usually the case if you stop by around noon. (The line I am sure is due to the yummy food but still.....irritating.) read more

I went for lunch and it was about half full. The high tables were empty, but low tables were full. Best Mediterranean platter of my life. The flavor in the cheese, hummus, olives, roasted red peppers, and grape leaves was INCREDIBLE and could easily have been shared with 4-6 for an appetizer, or shared for lunch. I had to try the lemon tart, and it was perfection. They also have a variety of candies, salsas, etc that would be nice gifts. I give it 4 stars because service was lacking. I had to go to register to ask for my lemon tart to go, even though I had paid for this with my order and asked it to be packed to go. I also had to go to the register to ask for to-go boxes. Food is amazing, pricey but you will leave happy and stuffed just right. Watch out though when they are crowded since they do have a hostess who gets confused and forgets who she should sit first. We ended up waiting awhile until I finally said something and she said she forgot we were waiting. I pointed to another family who she had waiting a few minutes after us and she forgot as well. Needless to say, we ordered late (which by the way, you go up to the cashier, order, and pay there), got our food late and we were very hungry. She is so appreciative of all her customers. We love to eat a light breakfast here on Saturday mornings, veggie or bacon/corn soufflé, delicious pastries and the best coffee! We've been eating lunch and dinner here for 8 years. The salads and pastas are so creative and delicious. They also make yummy thin crust pizzas. You can't beat the atmosphere.
