I'm writing this review mainly because of the barista who was working last night on 4/27/2026. I come here often because I love their drinks, and the staff is always friendly...but she truly stood out. I forgot to ask for her name, but her customer service was top notch from the moment my daughter and I walked in. I asked if she could make a banana matcha with cold foam, and she made it so delicious that I came back later to order a larger one because my daughter loved it too. After finishing our drink, she noticed she had a little extra and instead of wasting it, she kindly gave my daughter a small cup of her own. That completely made my daughter's night and made her so happy. We thanked her and told her how sweet that was. She was warm, thoughtful, and genuinely went above and beyond. Service like that is exactly what keeps customers coming back, and I truly hope we get to see her again. I've been here several times over the past year as this mall has become a halfway point meeting spot for me and my kids' dad. What does that have to do with coffee? Well, our kids are artists, and we really like all the fan art adorning this place. Jars hand painted with animated characters are so much fun, and provide a much more interesting experience than drab Sbucks. We like the drink concoctions but I feel like the drip coffee is not that flavorful. It gets me through the drive home though. And service has always been with a smile. We went a couple days ago and the small iced lavender matcha white mocha latte I ordered wasn't filled up- it was like 3/4 of an inch below the rim, which was disappointing for a drink over $5. In the past I've been a huge fan of La Perl coffee and I've been craving a coconut mocha chiller so recently I went in and placed my order I specifically used the term "chiller" but when she gave me my order she called out a "coconut mocha SHAKE" so I asked her about it and she said, "well usually a chiller has no fruit in it so I made you a shake." I was kinda annoyed cus that's not what I ordered, she confirmed my order prior to payment but made her own thing. It was just annoying because I've ordered the coconut mocha CHILLER there for years and instead gave me a shake but I literally can't have whole milk in large portions or ice cream due to a medical condition so I basically wasted my money. This place is so much better than Starbucks and for the price. The owner even chatted with me after I bought my drink and asked about my arm in a sling. Most people these days don't care about anyone but themselves. Every drink I have gotten here has always been good quality. Definitely recommend the mocha Oreo frapp. read more

Customer service is not good. The people that work here are not friendly at all. I ordered a latte w/almond milk. I was charged .95 more and when I received my coffee it wasn't even filled to the top. I asked if they can add milk. The lady just grabbed the cup and gave it to another girl that was making the drinks and made a comment to each, I guess they felt I was being to much to ask the a $5 cup of coffee be filled to the top. When the milk was added the girl didn't give it to me, she handed it over to another worker (guy), I thought that wAs weird because he didn't even know who the coffee was for. We came up to the AV to visit family. I hadn't been to this mall since the 90s, where this used to be a Gloria Jean's. The coffee shop looks exactly the same. I appreciated that nostalgia. Coming from LA, we expected to find a Coffee Bean or Starbucks at this mall, but I'm glad we didn't. The three baristas were nice and they looked busy but also focused on good service. The almond milk latte was great. I was a barista for 11 years, using both auto machines and the old school espresso machines. I could tell they pulled perfect shots. And the foam was also perfect. We also got a peanut butter mocha chiller--not sure of the exact name, but he's pretty picky when it comes to blended coffee drinks and he slurped it down and said it was awesome. I bought a coffee mug here a few days ago and brought it back in today to do an even exchange. Apparently it had a small chip I didn't notice upon buying it. I didn't dig out the receipt thinking it was an even exchange. The clerk told me I needed it to verify it was purchased there. It was wrapped in one of their boxes but okay. She first looked through their receipt book, couldn't locate the sale, I offered to show her my bank statement, she said no to that. She wanted me to describe the sales clerk which I did. I wasn't sure if her hair was in a bun or straight though...but I think she was kind of tall. So she then called a sales clerk who verified I bought it there I guess. Coming back to the counter she said she was sorry but she can't help me without the receipt. She said "I know you bought it here but I just can't". Mind you all I wanted was to get an unchipped mug and leave. She asked if I could come back later with the receipt. I told her I live in the next town and made a trip here for just this reason. I told her never mind I'll just do a Yelp review. She said her name was Stacy. I am not one to be petty and don't usually write a negative review. But after being locked up for months and finally being able to shop it was disappointing to receive service like this. read more

So my original review gave this place 5 stars. But since then the service has plummeted. For one they are the only coffee shop I have ever gone to that has ran out of actual coffee. And they don't have decaf options.. last time I asked for decaf I was told it was only to buy beans but not drinks. My husband ordered an ice coffee last time we were there and it tasted like sweet tea with coffee flavoring. Disgusting. I have been coming here for over 4 years (when I began working at the mall and this was the most convenient spot). I came a couple of times before I worked at the mall. The previous owners were terrible. I got charged extra once for light ice in a drink, and mind you, after several times of asking for there to be less ice, the employee still put the cup 5/6 full of ice. I guess they charge more because there's more liquid than ice as filler, but if you're going to charge extra you had better make sure that there's enough extra liquid to justify the extra charge. If mom and pop shops want to compete with the Starbucks of the world they need to offer something that makes them worthy of competition. The new owner is a kind man, and I have had nothing but pleasant exchanges with him, however the inconsistency and employee turnover rate are disappointing as well as alarming. I order the same drink 99% of the time. However, it is made differently by each individual employee. There is no consistency in the training. In fact, today I had to tell a new employee how to make my drink. The drinks are different prices depending on who is working as well. La Perk definitely needs a training program and an easy pricing guide. As is, there is a menu above the counter, and variations on drink orders are listed on a well-worn but confusing pile of paperwork that the employees must look through every time they take an order to give the customer a price, and even that is inconsistent. The menu and pricing need to be streamlined, easily readable and referenced, for the sake of the employees and the efficiency of the business and traffic. The attitude of the employees is also hit or miss. Certain employees who have been there for awhile (more than a few months) act as though they are irritated that customers come in and that taking the orders is a problem or hassle. It makes for an uncomfortable experience, and had I other options on a 15 minute break, I'd take any of them rather than go there when certain people are working. Much of the time, I find that the same employees who look miserable to be there are also the ones on the phone or talking to their workmates when customers approach and do not stop talking to attend customers immediately and then often lose track of orders so that they have to be reminded that people are waiting on them. The behavior of much of the staff is unprofessional, unfortunately. I also notice high turnover of employees. I can't know for sure, but I attribute this to their age and my suspicion that some employees are either family members or the children of members of the church at which the owner is Pastor, rather than a trained staff with prior cafe experience. Most of the drink selections are delicious, and the shop offers snacks and food as well, so it's definitely convenient, so long as shoppers know they are paying for convenience and not much more. There is a $3.00 minimum charge to use card (I assume to cover whatever fee the bank charges for card transactions). I hate to say it because the drink I get from there is my favorite of any coffee place by far, when made properly, but I have a feeling that if the owners do not get a handle on their business to make it more streamlined and efficient, the only thing keeping them in business will be convenience. read more

Been here a couple of times, all good experiences I really enjoy their cold brew coffee and teas. Today I went for a coconut mocha frappe it was great (not too sweet and subtle on the coconut) . I'd like to thank Hayley for her customer service, she has rung me up a few times not as much as the other baristas but she her genuine kindness and interest for her customers has definitely made her stand out, she has always been nice, polite, caring, and makes an effort to have a brief convo not too much to stop her work but enough to get to know her customers, that is really admirable service! That was the worst experience all around. My husband got iced coffee and I got iced chai tea. We got the kids some cookies. The drinks did not taste good at all. The cookies were hard and flavorless. My husband brought it all back and was told "absolutely no refunds". We did not receive a receipt either until we insisted on one. And the receipt is a hand written carbon store receipt. For $14.25 we expect much better quality food/beverage and service. Our first clue should've been that they had no customers! We will not be going there anymore. read more

I came here hoping to try a new place and support a local coffee shop. Ordered a Vanilla latte. When i receive my drink they served it macchiato style. I try it and its coffee and milk flavor. No vanilla taste. I ask the girl if i can have just a but more vanilla since i cant taste it. They then tell me its .75¢. Not complaining about the 75 cents it will cost be but how are you going to charge me to fix the drink i already paid for!? Whatever i hand her my card and she then tells me charges have to be $3.00 for card. Ridiculous! I already paid about $5 for a beverage that was not made correctly and you want me to pay to fix it? This place is a rip off. The coffee is watered down, they charge for ANYTHING. I ordered an iced vanilla coffee. Ok 2.75 total. Then I was charged an extra .75 for the vanilla flavor. It's not the .75 cents that upsets me, its the employees that don't inform their customers of the charges. I had to ask why is my small coffee coming out to nearly 4 bucks. The customer service is extremely poor. The older short skinny Hispanic lady with the dark hair which I believe is the manager named Gabby is extremely rude. Just gives this vibe that she seems annoyed when customers come. I have caught her being friendly only to male customers. I don't plan to waste my money here again. I asked for whip cream on top of my order and they were happy to serve it just the way I like it, I highly recommend stopping by this clean and friendly coffee shop if you are ever in the Av mall! Ok years ago I used to love this spot because they made my drink perfect and never gave me a problem but fast forward today when I went in the lady there was rude not friendly and now they want to charge 75cents for little chocolate sprinkles that were always added before no charge ...this place is going down hill prices were already too high but now it's getting stupid read more

Honestly if I could give this spot an extra star I would I came in with a large order for a lot of people who like there coffee very specifically took it back to the office and everyone got exactly what they wanted plus their names were spelled correctly. This place is awesome. My husband is a coffee lover and I love Tea. They have an excellent selection of both and great service. The staff is friendly and the girl who helped us suggested new Teas that I would have never known about otherwise. I've also gone there with friends when shopping at the mall for a drink and snack.
