It was crunchy on the outside with lots of fillings inside. Good amount for mayonnaise. Would order this again The special pho large size was indeed large and for the price it's definitely worth it. They give you lots of meat and tendon etc. The soup for me personally was a little too salty The bon Bo hue was definitely much smaller than the pho. Way less noodles. The soup tasted similar. Please note, this review is based solely on the food, because I got takeout. Normally, I wouldn't go to this pho place (there are a number of others closer to my house), however, due to COVID-19, this was the nearest Vietnamese restaurant I found that was open. My parents and I ordered a vermicelli bowl each. The food was ready for pickup in 15 minutes! Before I took my first bites, I poured the accompanying nuoc cham into my bowl and then mixed everything together. The rice noodles absorbed all the flavour from the sauce, the meat was tender, and the spring rolls were still crisp and stuffed to the max (I also appreciated that they were sliced for my eating convenience). All these elements built up the umami flavour I was craving. Peanuts, cucumbers, and small sprigs of cilantro added extra texture contrast. Furthermore, the pickled daikon and carrot strips acted as a perfect palate-cleanser. Honestly, everything about these vermicelli bowls equalled perfection. They have a couple of vegetarian/vegan options. You can either get a vegetable and noodle pho (small: $11; large: $12, each plus tax) or a vegetable, tofu and noodle soup in one (large) size ($13 plus tax). My soup came out in 5 minutes. You get a big portion of noodles, fried tofu puffs, and mixed veggies (broccoli, green cabbage, and carrot). The broth is pleasantly salty, not too oily, and has a nice subtle depth; it's amped up nicely by their homemade chili oil. Doesn't blow you away with awesomeness but it's pretty much everything I hope for in a veggie pho. Yet another good spot. read more

Vancouver weather has been freezing and chilly this week. Even today, my sister and I went for a stroll on Burnaby Hastings neighbourhood and it was not our plan coming here. We went here instead of going to Laksa King as LK was closed after 3PM. Customers were usually caucasians. Not so usual when I go to Vietnamese resto seeing lots of Asians there. We ordered #19 Rare Beef Pho (small $8.95) and #46 BBH ($10.95) the portions and the price were reasonable. Our food was great. BBH had good amount of meat and a piece of pork hock, yum. Soup was flavorful and not too spicy. #19 was tasty as well. Keep in mind, both of them came with some chopped cilantro on top so order according to your liking. Service was fast. I have a serious cravings for a soup in this weather it led me chugging all the soup. The food wasn't the best; however, the msg flavour made me feel thirsty. A wonderful little family run restaurant. First off, the place is spotless, immaculate; you could have your dinner in their washrooms. The smells once you get inside are absolutely intoxicating. The young ladies who run the front counter are charming and friendly and always remember you. And all of the food coming out of the kitchen looks and smells absolutely amazing. The big problem I have with this place is their chicken sandwich; it is so ******* good, I never order anything else! Often, I come from across town, and as soon as I walk in there I think, 'I should have some pho, I should have some noodles, I should have some... CHICKEN SANDWICH!!!' I've tried their other food, and it is all wonderful; the pho, made fresh every day from homemade broth is wonderful. But the chicken sandwich is transcendent, masterful, sublime. It is a work of art. It is one of the best things I have ever had in my life. It is culinary perfection itself. Absolutely scrumptiously prepared grilled lemongrass barbeque chicken, perfect grill marks, always juicy and perfectly cooked and hot, the marinated vegetables are crispy, tart and wonderful, the fresh cilantro, the little rings of jalapeños, the perfectly crispy and toasted fresh buns. And under 10 bucks. It redefines OMG, it is bordering on miraculous. My advice is to NEVER ORDER ONE. I would strongly urge you to Just don't. I went to this Vietnamese Restaurant as I drive on Hastings quite often. Location seems quite busy around this area and the reviews seem positive by some. The street parking was easy to find as I was lucky and for others it can be a challenge. I ordered the grilled lemon chicken with spring roll, bean sprout, carrot combo. It was satisfactory at best as I thought it lack content and flare not as good as some other locations like the viet noodle guy. My partner ordered the slice beef with meat ball noodle soup. Initially the waitress forgot her sliced rare beef and also the bowl was very small. This location serves smaller portions compared to other restaurants. The Vietnamese coffee was terrible, there was more water and condensed milk but no coffee! I wasn't sure if I was drinking iced condensed milk. Overall service was so so, the waitress didn't come back and check with our order. I believe she was in the back talking with other staff as the restaurant was not busy at all. Absolutely atrocious service. Was given the "stink eye" and an obvious scoul when asking for an additional bowl and napkins (2 people) which was a completely reasonable request. Felt like cattle getting hustled through the feeding trough. The clientele equals a dollar sign to their staff and absolutely nothing more. There are many better places close by that show there paying customers some baseline respect. "Give us your money and get out" clearly seems to be their philosophy. As can be seen on most of the other negative reviews (so predictable) there will likely be a totally false and fabricated rebuttal to the comments above stating "disrespect to servers". It seems like East Hastings is the new 'Pho Alley' from all the Vietnamese restaurants that have opened up during the years, and another one joins the fray vying for your dollar. After a long day of work and errands, and some bad drivers blocking my usual route home I needed some food and this was the perfect opportunity to come here. A ton of parking can be located right in front of this place, just watch the signs, but most of the time there is parking, and if not that, roll around the back to the huge parking lot. I remember this place used to be a frame store, and a florists, and to see that they installed a kitchen in here means they didn't recycle this place from a former restaurant that went under. The place is still feeling new, clean, nothing much on the walls, no Saigon pictures, or anything themed, it's just a simple, clean cut restaurant with a few tv's along the walls. The place has a few tables, and along the right side.. some booth seating. We were advised to just sit anywhere we wanted, and right after that the server came over with two menus. Looking through the menus, some good selection of pho choices, specialty noodles, appetizers, banh mi's, rice and vermicelli dishes from what I remembered. I quickly decided to go for a big bowl of the house special pho, and we also ordered salad rolls. Not too long after our order was placed, the food started coming out to the kitchen to our table. The setup is pretty standard, with your chopsticks, spoons and sauces on the table (like self-serve) but what gave a hint of cleanliness was the individual envelope's for the chopsticks (no they weren't disposable!) and probably for presentation, and fitting on the plate, the Sriracha sauce was in a small plastic ketchup bottle (just like the sweet sauce) where you couldn't see through it. I actually had a hard time squirting these bottles, so do watch out, or you could cause a mess. I can say that the large here is definitely a large, I came here hungry and was barely getting through to the end, they don't cheap out on the noodles or the meat, actually a very good proportion, but if you order this size, do come hungry! Nothing really stood out for me, except the fact that the broth was very clean, not overly sweet like some places around the block, and not salty either, just a very clean broth that didn't make you reach the water everytime. The portion of meat variety was all cut well to size where you weren't using your molars to break things apart. As for the other dish that was ordered, the salad rolls, I was surprised how tightly wrapped these suckers were, no chance of fall apart, even while munching through. The peanut sauce that came with it was filled with nuts but not thick enough in my opinion. After we were done, we paid up front, where there actually is a sign to instruct you of this. While I was here, they were replaying some World Cup soccer, so it's a good place if you enjoy watching some TV while eating your meal. I would come again, knowing that I didn't feel any MSG craze, the soup was clean.... the place is clean, the food quality is there, and it's cheap, just another one to add to the Hastings strip! read more

I was dying for rare beef Pho from here since I had had pretty good pho here in the past.. I had been in Mexico for 2 months and was dying for it. . My Pho arrives at the table and it was red in color which was weird but I thought,strange, maybe they had changed the recipe or cook while I was abroad.. I quickly notice there are 4 TINY squares of meat that look like chopped up processed roast beef. I ask nicely ask for a few more pieces . I eat about a quarter of it , I get up to go to the washroom and notice nobody else's was red in color ,so I go back to the table and ask if this was # 19? . The waitress says no. That is an #18 Hot and sour. I explain i ordered a number 19 rare beef I always order the same one. She rudely says " well do you want another one? What do you want me to do? " I say no it's fine. Really not sure what to do. I get the rest wrapped up and go to the cash to pay. I calmly ask if the 18 was written down on the cheque or the 19? just curious to see. She snaps at me and says " you ate half of it and then you. Complained ,we offered you a new one You don't need to come back here. !!! " At which point the girl who originally screwed up my order snaps at me too and says you don't need to come back. I explain that a simple apology for screwing up my order would have been sufficient. She then snapped again and told me that " you should have known if you order it all the time you don't need to come back" . Don't worry ladies I won't be coming back , and since I work in media , I will be advising my friends and colleagues not to either. it was cold last week that night and we looked forward to good hot meal at Le pho as we had the last 10 years plus. We placed our order and then got the eating utensils from the unit housing these. To our shock and disgust when took the spoons, an insect popped up,and started crawling around. We called the waitress and she crushed it with a cloth but left some of the dead insects parts behind. We then called another waitress and politely requested her to wipe up the rest of the dead bug and we told her we feared the utensil unit maybe infected with more insects . She belligerently jostled the utensil grabbing it and was blatantly irritated by our request. We expressed disgust and was grossed out. When she brought our order , she reacted to our disgust and sarcastically quipped if you don't like it , you can leave.. We were taken a back and explained we were aghast of the hygiene and cleanliness....she the emphatically retorted you can leave if you not like it At this point as hungry as we were , our dignity was more important and we were clearly bullied and made to look like we were causing trouble.. We accepted her suggestion and walked out. It's too bad that they could not see that we were wanting to help them and instead of getting a treat , we got a treatment. We won't be going back , sadly after over 10:years of patronizing them. I hope they can rectify their attitude for their sake and not further ruin their business further to have it shut down. The place is quite far from where I live but after the first visit, I went out of my way (drove 20 minutes lol) to go again. All the dishes I've tried so far are delicious and taste fresh. The chicken wings though, hmmm, probably the best I've ever had! Super crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. The Vietnamese coffee and avocado smoothie were so good too! But let's talk about the service. The ladies are so friendly, attentive and efficient. You can tell that they genuinely love working there. They bring out such a positive vibe. I figure out I'd love to try their spicy noodle soup "Bún(Mi) Bò Hué" (which is my favorite soup usually made at most pho places) Here it's listed as #46 Hue style Spicy beef vermicelli soup (it doesn't say but comes with a pigs foot questioned by the waitress whether it was wanted ahead of time - not today - I've not yet experienced that in this version of soup - today's soup excludes blood whatever found in other versions) $8.95 I also asked for an order of spring rolls. The veggies in the Beef Bahn Mi didn't seem to have the traditional pickled veggies in it but seemed to be catered to be a bit more westernized. We stumbled upon Le Phở because we happened to be in the area and were looking for small picnic food to take to nearby (-ish) Trout Lake. May 2020 and social-distancing measures were still in place, but the set-up was well thought-out, clean and efficient. We took away the most delicious chicken bánh mì we have ever eaten: good-sized mini-baguettes, crisp but not so crusty as to cut the roof of your mouth, filled with lots of daikon, shredded carrot, cucumber, cilantro and tender chicken, all unified with a scrumptious sauce. The staff were friendly, young and attractive. Although we tend to be only in the area every 6 weeks or so, Le Phở is a real find and greatly adds value to the area for us. read more

I've started and erased this review a few times because I just could not find a nice way of saying - DON'T EAT THERE! Service "meh"! There are more than a dozen Vietnamese restaurants in this area, choose another. Came across this one by mistake because I got it mixed up with another on this block. Although it didn't look familiar, figured we'd give it a go. Huge, huge mistake! The egg roll was good. My Pho was terrible and I made the grave mistake of asking for it spicy. At which point the cook - dumped a crap load of chili in it. FYI: could have done that myself as every table has chili. They knew we were not pleased, not once did they ask how things were tasting. The soup was inedible. When we were ready to leave it was almost impossible to get the bill as both young woman (owners daughters) were more preoccupied with a friend that was hanging out at the restaurant. Upon entering the store, I was nicely greeted. I was asked if I wanted tea or water and I chose tea. The tea was average and tasted like tea from any other Vietnamese restaurant. After looking through the menu, I ordered a chicken banh mi (for $5.50) and a large pho (for $8.50) with beef brisket and rare beef. I received the pho first which was quite odd to me, but I waited for the banh mi. The banh mi was crisp and contained lemongrass chicken, cucumber, and some pickled carrot and daikon. The amount of "stuff" in the banh mi was quite disappointing. I could literally count the amount of pickled veggies using my fingers! The size of the bread is quite small. Considering the price is more than most places, I expected more and was left disappointed in the end. The pho was mediocre. I ordered a large and it looked like any other large which is a good thing. I found it quite bland, but ate it nonetheless. An hour later and I could clearly tell that a lot of MSG is used in the soup which isn't uncommon, but it isn't wanted by most people. The beef was extremely dry and unappetizing. I didn't end up finishing the meats since it was so dry and had a weird texture overall. When I asked for the bill, I was given a candy along with it which is quite nice. In the end I felt like I wasted $5.50 on that banh mi. The pho is mediocre at best and I might eat it again if I were to stop in the area. But then again, there is a Pho Don down the block and I might as well try that next time. read more

I think people should understand that Le Pho is NEW. They've been open for less than a month or close to that. Compared to many of the Vietnamese places around, they are clean, priced reasonable and service is good. The food isn't all that great - I'd say it's just an average place, nothing special, lots of MSG... the whole shebang. I went to the restrooms without coming out appalled. Kudos. Also the server actually talks to you and communicates, don't take it as bad or aggressive, it's their job, if you don't want to be served or waited upon stay at home and eat. Maybe a little bit more training on the menu and ingredients would be nice, but hey it's all a learning process! I had the cha gio, or egg rolls, and also their banh mi dac biet. It was alright. Cha gio was nice and hot and lots of filling, but they weren't wrapped all to nicely, that's ok though. The banh mi, or sandwich had a nice selection of cold cuts, pate and the usual pickled veggies. I think the bread was a bit stale but it was yummy and certainly filling. Like always, got a cafe sua da (iced coffee), it was... coffee... yum... So for about $15 you get a nice filling meal in a nice atmosphere. I think once they fix the small kinks in communication and being less flustered due to the rushes it will all be alright. Since I occasionally drive along the Hastings area for my lunch break, I was delighted to see that a new Pho place had opened up. As expected, everything was still pretty much clean and new. I ordered my BBH as per usual and it looked pretty good. But for whatever reason I just wasn't blown away by the taste (the soup lacked a bit of flavour) so technically this is actually like 2.5 stars. There wasn't anything actually horribly wrong with the food to warrant 2 stars. I also didn't have any problems with the workers or have any communication issues. But would I come back again? Maybe. If it sticks around for another year, I'll come then and see if things have improved or gotten progressively worse. read more

I don't know what happened, but I came here for the first time with my wife and didnt have a good experience. I usually rate pho restaurants into 3 categories: 2 stars for food 2 stars for customer service 1 star for something amazing (i.e. amazing food, customer service, environment, etc.) Food was pretty decent, what you would expect from a pho restaurant. Unfortunately, they got my order wrong, I ordered the rare beef with tripe, but only got rare beef. I didnt bother telling our server because: 1. I didnt realize it till I ate a nice chunk of it already, I thought the tripe was hidden underneath; and 2. Our server was never around. So 1 star for food. Customer service was non existent; besides taking our order and bring us our food, our sever never appeared again. She didnt even do the standard, "hows the food?" or refill our waters. Now you might say I'm asking too much from a pho restaurant or from two teenage girls but I probably wouldn't have mind it as much if it was busy, because I would understand, but no, they were talking to each other and on their phones. Near the end I ask for an empty container to take home some extra food, that container never came. I wish I never left my pitty $2 tip. 0 stars for service. And of course there was nothing amazing. So 0 stars for extra amazing anything. Overall, we probably will never go back unless someone invites us to go there, and even then I would recommend against it. The only way this rating would change is if I was forced there and the customer service turned super amazing. It's great that they are enthusiastic about opening, however, when I arrived they would not shut up about opening. Every second word was open or a variation. The service seemed a bit aggressive. The water glasses we were given tasted like the solution they were washed in. The broth wasn't that great; too watery. the raw beef in broth wasn't raw.. it was cooked (lol I know that sounds silly but the raw beef soup is my favorite and it has to be a certain way). By first glance, it looks welcoming. There were a lot of families eating very yummy looking things! I saw some fried spring rolls, boba tea, bbq duck, grilled chicken, and three bean ice cream. Although I was craving bacon, everything here looked good and had me excited to eat. Plus, it was cold (compared to Arizona) and a warm bowl of pho seemed like a perfect meal to match the day. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked my food. I had the house special which was a barbecue duck pho and fried spring rolls. I also had a milk honey dew green tea with coconut jellies. The spring rolls with the side of the sweet sauce were heavenly. Warm, crunchy, and flavorful. My duck pho was so good. The broth was full of flavor and the soft clean noodles were just what I needed on a cold day like today. Weird Megan Issue: The duck pho has duck in it - none deboned duck - so you have to get in there and separate all the bone with you chopsticks or fork. Which made things messy and awkward when eating. This didn't subtract from the flavor or the yumminess - just a weird peeve I have. I also ordered a milk "bubble" tea with pearls. Apparently they call boba tea bubble tea here. I definitely need to look into the right terming for that - either way(!) - whatever it's called, it was good. The waitress informed me they ran out of "pearls" and asked me if I wanted "jelly" instead. I shook my head yes because I was confused what pearls and jelly were (I'm still new to the boba tea world). I should have said no. The tea was delicious except for those overly sweet coconut jellies at the bottom. Food and drink were spot on except for those weird Megan issues like duck bones and coconut jellies. The service was quick and friendly and the place was nice and clean. However, am I going to come back? Vancouver is such a large city with so many things to explore, I was hungry and lost and confused and Le Pho provided me an amazing experience for the crazed state that I was in. Although the food was good, I could get the same at my local little Pho place in Arizona. I might be back, but I also want to see what else Vancouver has to offer.
