This is a super cute place. My friends wanted to come here for brunch on a Saturday morning. I got the eggs royale ($28). It came with a side salad and it was super yummy but I don't think it's worth $28. Service was great! The waiters were constantly refilling our water and were attentive. What a lovely find in Williamsburg. Located in the Wythe Hotel, the restaurant is charming and spacious. While I felt prices were a little on the high side, we enjoyed our meal. We started off with the escargot and Parisian sausage. The sausage is a cold dish sliced and served with some Dijon mustard; it was nice and flavorful. The escargot wasn't the typical butter and parsley version and it was excellent. Served with fennel in a light broth with croutons, it was delicious. For the entrees I had the roast chicken which was served with fries and an herb, pesto-like sauce. This was a fabulous chicken dish. So flavorful and juicy. It was also quite a large portion. The duck leg, had a lovely flavor and it was cooked well, however next to the chicken it seemed so small as there was nothing served with it. Luckily the amount of fries with the chicken was enough for two. For dessert we opted for the almond tart which was topped with figs. It was absolutely scrumptious. Both the coffee and espresso were excellent versions and served piping hot. The wine list had some nice decent options which worked well with the food. Gorgeous aesthetic and decor with a minimalistic retro vibe that is perfect for a high end date night. The service could have been a bit better, as they forgot to give us our check and got the check wrong the first time--but this is the only reason I left a star off. While I don't consider myself the biggest fan of French food, this was my favorite new restaurant in a while. For appetizers, we had the Jonah crab, scallops, and mushroom pate, all of which were delicious and flavorful. For mains, we had the steak frites and escargot, both of which were good as well, but it was really the appetizers that stole the show for me, at least until dessert. My favorite dish of the night was the panna cotta; it was so light and refreshing, with special popping lemon seeds that burst in your mouth and added such nice texture. A rocky start went up exponentially with a table and server change. Tristan is wonderful! We arrived and the table of 10 next to us was screaming. Literally yelling. We asked to move so we could enjoy our evening. And we have 2 family members who are hearing challenged. So unseen challenges are "less than" screaming celebrating? She can save the condescension. Came here for steak frites on my birthday. Wasn't the best but also wasn't the worst, however I'd place Le Croc's steak frites in the bottom 50% rank of places I've visited in nyc. Like most of the other 3 star reviews, sadly I can't recommend this place for its food and 4 stars would be too generous. Service was great except for a dessert landing on my table instead of the table next to mine. I was confused because the waitress offered free bubbly (I'm sober for winter) or free dessert after my salad and steak frites. I requested everything come to the table as it's ready instead of coursing it out but thus came and went the salad, and a chocolate mousse appeared before my steak. Thinking it was the result of "bring anything when it's ready" I didn't make much of it. Easy forgivable mistake. Waitress wished me a happy birthday multiple times and one of the floor managers saw me and my bf scribbling on the post cards that came with the check, and dropped off extras. Salad could take more acid and more dressing. French fries were stale/cold/hard. I enjoyed the level of salt on everything I tasted however. The steak was a bavette cut which wasn't indicated on the menu. Perhaps let the customer know this beforehand. I was left guessing if it was flap steak or something else. The service and food here are unmatched. Its super romantic and makes for a perfect anniversary spot! We came a little early for our reservation and decided to get a drink upstairs at the hotels bar which i highly recommend doing! Once we came down for our reservation the sun had gone down and the restaurant looks even nicer than before. They perfected the lighting making the dinner intimate and cozy. Short review: Great large space with a lot of seating. Volume wasn't too loud. Very fancy but only moderately tasty and not worth it at this price point. Order the chicken if you don't want to leave starving. I was here with a group a while back where we ordered individually. People in general enjoyed their meals but some people left hungry and in general people found the portion sizes tiny for prices outside of those who ordered the chicken. The staff was friendly and gave good recommendations whether it was drinks or food. My cocktail was the Flight Attendant with mezcal, Aperol, amaro blend, and lemon which was $21. I asked the waitress if the cocktail was on the sweeter end due to the Aperol and she let me know that it was bitter without too strong of an Aperol flavor and that immediately became my choice. It might have been pricey but the cocktail was large and boozy so to be honest it was actually pretty worth it. The drink was indeed bitterer with some smokiness from the mezcal. I presume the amaro blend included either Montenegro or Averna due to the bitter orange flavor but I'm not sure and I don't remember the conversation. The cocktails in general were pricey ranging from upper teens to $31 for the Poire Royale and there was a cocktail called the Manhattan Normande which I likely would have gotten if it wasn't I believe $28 but other people enjoyed theirs and the drink sizes were decent. As I was going to order the duck, I decided to go with the Mushroom Pâté with Black Truffle which was $18. They also have another meat based pate for oddly one dollar more but this sounded more different. The pâté was decently portioned though I found it bland with an unappetizing texture. I couldn't taste much of the black truffle with the most flavorful part of it being the pickled shimeji/white beech mushrooms on the side. It wasn't worth it. Another person had the eel frisée salad and I believe someone else had the oysters and I remember trying the leek salad which was a lot tastier by comparison. My main dish was the Burgundy Duck with Pear and Pancetta which was $40. The piece of duck was cooked perfectly with tender meat and crispy skin but it was tiny. This red wine sauce was rich and well flavored with the pear being sweet and it paired well. I couldn't taste much of the pancetta itself but I presume it was one of the reasons why the dish was on the richer end. While I did enjoy the flavors and the duck was perfectly cooked, I couldn't help but think I was ripped off compared to another person's chicken where they likely had more frites then I had duck. I tried a bit (as they gave a bit with my tiny portion size) which was tasty. I know this is a fancy restaurant in Williamsburg but give me a break with the portions here. The duck might have been very well flavored but it just wasn't worth it for the price or even for several dollars less. The pâté was better portioned and bland and the fact that the thing that might have been the most worth it was the $21 cocktail (and the chicken someone else ordered) says a lot about the restaurant. Outside of the friendly staff and nice space, I don't get the reviews here. Borderline 2.5 lowered. read more

Food wise, we shared the Waldorf salad and the Steak Frites. Both were great. Steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare. Served in a delicious sauce. Fries were thin and crispy. I came here for my birthday and had a very enjoyable meal with excellent service. The oysters were fresh so if you like oysters, definitely get them! They were a bit pricey but they're definitely one of the tastier oysters. One of my fave dish of the night was the escargot. The sauce it was in was delicious. My date and I literally used every bit of bread we had left to soak it all up. The chicken is one of their well known dishes. It was very good and moist. I'm not big on chicken but I approve. However .. the fries was probably my favorite part of the dish; they were cooked to perfection and seasoned well. Date pudding I would probably skip next time. Just wow. From top to bottom, an amazing experience. Surprised this doesn't have a Michelin star yet...that tire company should give them a try. The chicken with frites was decadent. The fries soak up the aux jus just right, the meat is juicy, and the dish will fill you up without overwhelming you. The escargot was perfectly matched with buttery pesto sauce and sourdough croutons. Our waiter Deven (more on him soon) gave us fresh bread to soak up the gravy and we did just that. And the Parisienne sausage...so simple. So good. The mustard had a lot of pop, tangy and spicy and would taste great on most meats. The cocktails were smooth and strong, they will sneak up on you! Lastly, Our waiter was a cut above the norm. Deven made excellent suggestions and took time to notice what we were eating to pair our cocktails with. He added fresh bread for our escargot, as if reading our mind. And the rest of the staff had equal attentiveness and friendliness. I love me some eggs for brunch with salmon and hollandaise sauce! I was happy to see that option on their limited menu, but upset when I got them. It was way salty. The salmon had more salt than the sauce. Our server was great, always on top of it and making sure we were taken care of. The food was overpriced in my opinion. It was busy and being inside a hotel even more so. The employees were all fantastic and my drink was good. This review is for a la carte items during lunch! We stumbled upon this walking around during lunch time and was glad this discovery worked out! Everything we got is a must order! My only note is that the service was a bit on the slower side- our food took 20-30 mins to come out (it came out all at once). Not a quick stop! For wine, we got the Chenin Blanc -- Domaine de La Renière is a wine you can drink by itself! The waiter let me try it out before committing and we ended up getting another glass afterwards! ‍ Mushroom pâte-- I've never had a mushroom one before. Highly recommend if you are a fan of truffle! There are actually slices of truffle underneath the raw mushroom. This pâte looks small, but it's dense. Paired with the bread given, it packs a punch! Roasted Chicken with ALL the #frites -- these fries are just plain good! Skinny and crunchy. The roasted chicken wasn't dried out- perfectly juicy. We had an incredible dinner at Le Crocodile. For starters, we ordered the Frisee Salad, Artichokes and Country Pate, all of which were perfectly prepared. I ordered the Steak Frites and I've been thinking about it ever since. The fries were so crispy, the steak done medium rare with a rich gravy that I sopped up with the fries. My date ordered the Duck Breast and it was crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. For dessert, the Sticky Banana Date Pudding blew our minds. The service was stellar and the atmosphere lively. 3.5 for me. Really was excited for some early dinner French food on this cold winters night and sadly it was just.... Ok. But before the food... The ambiance and decor of this spot was great. Staff was really warm and attentive from the host to our server to the bussing staff. I loved that our server really knew the menu well and when asked about a certain dish she was able to give a thoughtful confident response about it. We really wanted to love the food. Ordered both the mushroom patè and the country patè. I'm all for warm crusty bread but holy hell the sourdough bread they gave with these appetizers was wayyy too hard on the exterior and did not have enough soft middle to enjoy spreading either of the patè on. Mushroom patè was the clear winner here, reminded me of a luscious foie gras even. The country patè had a great presentation but lacked in seasoning. The steak tartare again was presented really nicely but waaay too much citrus in the dish that you couldn't even taste the raw beef in it. Sadly the next 2 dishes had just too much going on. Ordered the steelhead trout, be forwarned this is not your usually brook trout, the coloring of the meat looks like salmon but it is definitely a trout! The fish itself was beautifully prepared, delightfully pan seared crispy skin and the flesh was not overcooked and seasoned just so.. But the accompanying celery root and Marcona almonds just didn't meld well. Though the celery root was cut into tiny cubes, it has a very strong flavor that overpowered the entire dish. Who doesn't love anything in brown butter?! The Halibut in brown butter was something I was so looking forward to because one other French restaurant in LIC that did this preparation but with skate stopped doing it so I was excited to see this on the menu. Fish and smoking small white radishes were cooked perfectly! But the sauce... The brown butter just unctuous and silky on your palate but sadly all that amazingness was abruptly disrupted by a very bitter mouth puckering citrus flavor. It just threw the whole dish off for me. Someone in the kitchen is citrus happy here and sometimes a good thing can be too much of a good thing. Maybe use a sweater citrus next time on this? The star of this dinner was the banana date pudding in caramel sauce, Hands down! We may be back if they do have a seasonal menu to see if we were maybe there on an off night. read more

Wanted to try out somewhere new when I was in New York and I had seen Le Crocodile on Instagram a few times as a must hit spot for French onion soup. The menu looked amazing and I loved the Hors d'oeuvres section (was avail at dinner and at the table not just bar) to be able to dry a few small items. Service was fantastic, waitress was attentive and had a good description of the dishes so I could pick which sounded most appetizing to me. The French onion soup shockling was not my favorite I've ever had, but the scallop and lobster stuffed sausage was amazing!! Definitely will come back next time I'm in NY to try more.
