Long rant, so here's the short version now: service here is cold (if you aren't French), food comes out slow, and staff is slow, staff is also unprofessional. The escargot is bad and the onion soup is okay.
Horrible experience at this restaurant. After we ordered our meal, a fight between waiters broke out and curses were yelled. Then, coins were thrown....hard, and a few of them landed on me since they had the fight right next to our table (it was near the waiter station). Most of the coins flew past the room and out to the outdoor portion, but a few coins actually hit me and left red marks on my back and shoulder--which I noticed the next day. (I wanted to wait and calm down before I wrote this review.) What really made me angry was that the manager came into the room to pick up the coins and then just leaves. No apology. No asking if I, or anyone else, was okay (still wasn't aware that I had red marks on my back, it was just numb). I thought maybe French customs are cold, but a French customer watching from the table behind me had the decency to ask if I was okay. Afterwards, our waiter and all other personnel acted as if everything was fine and did nothing to apologize to our room, the outdoor section, my table, or even acknowledge what had happened....well, one woman did say, "ignore it. it's fine, these things happen. Don't be scared. It's over". I understand that uncontrollable things happen, but the way they handled this situation was very unprofessional.
But we did eat so:
Since this was our first meal after flying in from Spain, we were hungry and decided to stay (my shoulder was numb and I didn't realize the coins had left a mark...we had also already ordered at this point). Honestly, the escargot tasted a bit bland and overcooked/too chewy. The escargot I had in China tasted better (granted, that was in a five star restaurant, but the gap was large) The onion soup was okay (I can and have gotten this level and better in the US...upsetting for a first time Eurotrip), and the confit was a bit overhyped IMO. Our waiter was very cold and mostly ignored us (I thought he was embarrassed over the fight, but the moment a French man sat next to us he chatted him up with idle conversation....and yes, he spoke English). As my first experience in Paris, I thought all waiters were cold and that the French just didn't receive tourists well, but fortunately, I met many friendly waiters and better food during the rest of my trip. read more
