We went to this restaurant because we could not stand the long wait at L'Entrecote - we decided to go in because we checked the menu and we also see that it seemed like a local favorite. We were seated by the corner table by the window. I people watched as they also have a lot of outdoor seats and I noticed they were there to have some drinks. They have specials and I ordered my entree from the board. We had the baked Brie to share -pure gooey goodness. I ordered traditional French onion soup and it was heavenly and the rump steak ordered rare as suggested with gratin. Like in all of the restaurants we went to at we had wine with our meals, when in Paris it's a must! The servers were great, we loved the food and restaurant was lovely. read more

This spot was a minute walk from our hotel and open all day, which meant we could do an earlier dinner to accommodate our kiddos bedtime. Ate here twice on my last visit to Paris - once in the afternoon when the city felt as hot as the surface of the sun and I was staaaaaarving, and tomatoes & mozzarella & a glass of rosé were just what I needed to cool off and raise my blood sugar. That time, I was in a cozy corner of the dining room. The second was an impromptu solo dinner while waiting for a concert at St. Germain Des Pres, also a hot and sticky evening, but this time I had beef carpaccio (with a wonderful salad) and another glass of wine (red this time), and it was another very good dining experience. The wife and I went to dinner here with friends while visiting their home in the 6th. The highlight of this meal was the cannelloni that the wife ordered. It was well seasoned and delicious. The escargots I ordered as an appetizer were also good. However, they were not easy to eat. Three of them were stuck in the shells and I had to break the shells to get to the meat. The steak was just okay. It needed salt and was a bit tough. The fries were not good at all. Possibly they were older fries or overcooked a bit. Whatever the reason, they were dry and chewy. The vegetables it came with were actually more flavorful that the fish. I'd give it 3/5. My dad order the steak. While I didn't try it, he said it very tough. He mentioned this to the waiter and he quickly made amends and brought out another cut that was much more tender. That's great customer service! After reading some of the reviews I was surprised to see issues about service. We arrived for lunch and there were only a few other diners since it was early but there were plenty of staff. We were seated right away and were given menus. After a few minutes we ordered lunch. The waiter did not write down our order but we did get the correct dishes but no water. We flagged another waiter down and he brought us a bottle. I ordered foie gras on brioche, I just had to try this dish once while in Paris. On the menu there was a description of happy well cared for ducks that are not force fed so you don't have to feel bad eating their liver. It was worth it, so fatty, creamy and delicious. We also had duck with creamy sweet potatoes, this was also very good. I ordered the house red wine. They do have other wines you could order but I assume that whatever you order in these bistros you will get the house wine. They don't pour the wine from a bottle, it's served either in a small bottle with no label or a small pitcher, no way to tell what wine they are serving other than red, white or rose. Great deal for 8.50 euros works out to about 4 glasses of wine. Restaurant was fairly clean. The coaster had stains on them and the menu a bit worn but this was one of the cleaner bistros we've been to. read more

Added this Resturant to Yelp which has a 4 1/2 rating on google maps so decided to try it. They have limited outside seating and a large inside dining area. There is a bar but very small and tight. Atmosphere is great and VERY busy. It did take a long time for them to take our order, so be ready to order your entire meal and and not just appetizers. Our table has a selection of food and I decided to have the Rumpsteak. Steak was cooked very well BUT not zero seasoning. I thought the stake was not tasty however if you like non-seasoned stake maybe it's for you. It was also very tough and perhaps it's the nature of the steak... The Duck my fried had as very good and tasty. The tuna salad was good as well and the steak fries were crispy and very good. Generally this would be a 3 star however the service was not very good. The server (which I believe was the manager) did not write down the order. So escargot that we ordered we never received. The drinks took a VERY long time to come! What had been a pleasant experience due to decent food and okay service (instead of the staff being proactive about water and bread refills, which is reasonable to expect at a lunch service in Paris, we had to constantly ask for it ourselves) turned bad at the end, as the manager showed supreme impatience with our very small party as we paid. I like Le Pré Aux Clercs. It's nothing really special for Paris but it's just a nice and comfortable place to get a drink or a snack (you can make a meal here but don't make it a serious meal, it's not that kind of place). If your expectations are right you'll really enjoy this. My fun time for Le Pré Aux Clercs is at 7am or so, in the dark of a Winter morning. I'll go out for a run along the Seine (nothing like being almost alone under the Eiffel Tower, running in the pre-morning dark; it's magic, like no place else) and on the way back to home/hotel, I'll stop at the bar for a coffee. At that hour, it's me, a couple of Parisian garbagemen or street sweepers with their truck parked in front, a couple of construction workers on their way to work, maybe a woman walking her dog and stopping for a quick coffee, all of us at the bar. See, this is a Parisian neighborhood hangout before the St. Germain crowd takes over later in the day. I think that's pretty fine. read more

My friends and I happened on this place while enjoying a walk around the neighborhood of Musee d'Orsay. It was getting late and our bellies were getting hungry so we spontaneously dropped in on this restaurant for a quick bite. I am seriously in LOVE with Paris and this was my 2nd trip here in a month. The first time was LOVE at first sight but this 2nd trip almost broke us up. I won't go into details but some lovely French gentleman ran off with my purse on the train ride into Paris. So as you can imagine I was quite saddened by the loss of all of my favorite things in my purse but dinner here was so enjoyable & pleasant that I forgot my sorrows. My friend and I ate a chicken dish with frites while our other friend enjoyed steak with frites. The inside decor of this restaurant was warm and friendly and very green. Service was attentive and the food was very good. We had such a great time here talking, enjoying our meal, and surrounding environment. We were wandering around St. Germain and came across this little gem. I was skeptical at first; when they saw that we had a little one, albeit sleeping, in a stroller, we were immediately seated in the tiniest of bistro just inside the door. The waiter also never shared the plats du jour with us but instead stood there waiting for us to order. We ordered the following: - French Onion Soup: which was slightly too sweet after a few spoonfuls but lovely after walking around all chill morning. - Steak with Onion Sauce and Frites: the steak was cooked perfectly and the frites extra crispy. The onion sauce may have been a bit strong for my liking but luckily it was my husbands meal. - Duck Confit with Potatoes: Wow. The duck quarter was incredible. Juicy, flavorful, fall of the bone perfection. The dish was very decadent and begged for something to cut through the fat but I'm really not complaining. The service was good; our waiter actually warmed up as our meal progressed and even begun playing with our daughter as she woke up from her nap. Towards the end of the meal, he asked us where we were traveling from and how long we've been in Paris and even have our daughter two glow in the dark bracelets as a parting gift. Not so friendly waitress and just probably needs to stop clubbing at night. I think she took advantage of us since we just landed and just wanted coffee and breakfast. She said they don't have menus ( weird) and to tell us what we wanted. i got a croissant and a coffee and my friend just wanted a ham sandwich. So after a nice long 20 minute way we see the waitress come back with a baguette and grocery and came with our food. The bill was huge, 4.50 Eur for a cup of coffee and 3 Eur for a croissant. This place, while definitely touristy, is a solid option with good food and reasonable prices. My French is not very good and the staff were all very kind and patient with us. The service was prompt and polite even though the place was incredibly busy, and there was no pressure to rush. We got to take time to savor our meal. The charcuterie board came with a nice variety of options and there was way more than enough for three people. The house specialty is a steak with a sauce that they are clearly very proud to serve, and I understand why. While the romaine and fries were decent, the steak was well prepared and the sauce was absolutely as delicious as promised. The highlight of the dessert was the incredibly fresh and flavorful ice cream. If I were to return, for dessert I would probably just order from the ice cream menu because it was the best part. Paris is a super kid-friendly city in a lot of ways, but one of the few exceptions is that restaurants aren't open until 7 pm unless they cater to tourists and 7 pm dinners and toddlers aren't very compatible. This was one of the places we popped into for an early dinner, knowing that it probably wasn't going to be a life-changing meal. Sure enough, we were seated next to a couple from the US - in fact, also from Indiana - which isn't really something you hope for in Europe. After a long afternoon of walking, shopping and enjoying a nice Paris afternoon, we ended up stopping by Le Pre Aux Clercs for a drink. This experience did not go as we had imagined. I saw the Stella Artois sign outside and thought: "A Stella sounds good right about now". So we went inside, the interior was kinda cool with a funky indoor tree thing in the middle of the room, but the service...... oh the service... The waitress comes up, I ask for a "Stella", she replies "Amstel"? No... a "Stella". She proceeds to ask me the size and I think all is good. She returns a bit later with an Amstel... I was a little upset because not only did I clearly say Stella twice, she still screwed it up (all of this conversation is in french btw). So I proceed to drink the Amstel, I mean, I'm not going to flag her down to get another beer. I'm bitter because its the wrong beer and I was a little tired from the afternoon, when she comes walking behind me and drops her entire tray onto my head and back. That... pissed me off. Not only did she bring me the wrong drink, she now just dropped everything onto my head... Yeah... not very happy at this point. We immediatly ask for the bill, I'm thinking my beer better be free... it wasn't. So I get to pay 8€20 for a Amstel, 5€60 for a cappuccino and a tray of crap on my head. Oh and apparently you need to have a bill of 15€ to use the carte blue (we were at 13€80) so... now I am just thinking we should get up and leave... but we didn't and we even ended up having to tip her 1€20 to get to 15€. My family and I just had dinner at this restaurant tonight, and I was thoroughly disappointed. We ordered both the Onglet de Boeuf and Pave Rumsteak medium rare, and they were both way over cooked. The Onglet de Boeuf was supposed to be beef tenderloin, but it was actually a Tri tip cut. I cook a lot of beef so I know which cuts comes from which parts of the cow. The steaks were dry, chewy and tasteless(no seasoning, I even had to add salt and pepper). My wife ordered the Magret en Croute, which was cooked medium rare correctly but the duck breast did not taste fresh. The fries were also disappointing and soggy. I love the food in Paris and I have not had a bad meal in Paris, we really wanted our first meal back in Paris to be really memorable and good, but instead we got terrible and disappointing. I definitely would not recommend or come back to this restaurant. If you want a true Parisian meal do not go to this restaurant, it caters to Americans yet they do not truly care. read more

Dressing your tongue with the taste of traditional French food comes at a price. A delicious, mouth watering, desire to come back for more price. Everything on the menu at Pré aux Clercs sounded lovely, but we settled on the French onion soup to start and share which I have to say was the best I have ever had. Then the roast duck with rosemary potatoes and grilled swordfish, then on to the creme brulee. If the French do anything right with desserts it is creme brulee. The crack was satisfying and the inside a creamy delight. Pré aux Clercs is definitely worth a try if you are on a budget, or an every day splurge if the euros don't matter. Magnific! read more
