I've been searching for a decent coffee shop in the Katy Area to no avail, until finally discovering Lava. But Lava is not just decent, it's GOOD. They serve Amaya and the default espresso is the Temporada blend (same as Catalina and many other inner loop cafes). I got a double espresso and was pleasantly surprised at how GREAT the espresso was. It's rare to find a decent espresso within 610, let alone Katy. That gets 5 stars alone. Temporada is always good, but also kudos to whoever dialed it in and pulled the shot. I've been to many mediocre cafes and many great ones in Houston (Catalina, Southside, Retrospect etc); Lava definitely falls into the great category. I don't think they offer pour over yet, but definitely grab an espresso (I'm sure the milk drinks are great too). Coffee aside, the owner is fantastic and friendly. She's always enthusiastic to chat about their current coffee offerings. I like to think I had a hand in lobbying Lava to carry Amaya haha, they carried Oak Cliff (Dallas roaster) in the past which was also decent. Oh whoops coffee nerd again; the layout is very spacious and there are outlets. Definitely recommend you stop by Lava if you're looking for a coffee shop in the Katy area. read more

The extra star is for the atmosphere. This is a place you can 'hang out' and drink some speciality coffee, play a game, and get your sugar high all in one. Is it the best coffee? It's decent, some of the better actual beans in Katy in fact. A little more training for the staff wouldn't go amiss though when it comes to brewing it up. read more

This is one of my favorite coffee shops in Katy! They always have unique new latte flavors to try. And the shop itself is very cute! Tashar is great! :) read more

Maybe it's me. I've been here 3 X and 2/3, they didn't have COFFEE! Both times the drip coffee machine was BROKEN...really??!! They were pleasant enough but a coffee shop that doesn't have, well... coffee? Shame, nice vibe. I give up. read more

Such a great spot to check out. They have a good variety of coffee and snacks. We got a latte and a cold brew. Both were delicious and full of flavor. They also have some snacks to try. It's ist overall a good place to hang out and vibe. read more

Lava Coffee - Campfire Latte and Apple Strudel - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Katy, Texas

The coffee here is more about being trendy than offer something actual coffee lover will enjoy. Too many flavors are added so you can't really taste the coffee itself. If you like cute, trendy drinks, this is definitely the place for you. read more

A great hidden coffee gem dropped in the middle of boba territory of Katy Asian Town. Located in strip center behind Kura Revolving Sushi & 85C bakery. Ordered some safe go to favorites: Cold Brew and a Iced Vanilla Latte. Decent price and only one size. Est. 16oz cup that always guarantees two manually pulled espresso shots. Vanilla latte was presented layered and opted for the dark roast Cold Brew. The cold brew was smooth and notes of chocolate and nuts. Very good even after refrigerating for a few hours. Sad to see Katy Ft. Bend Coffee Roasters go under; but now we can all seek coffee refuge at this spot. When you want real coffee purveyors, and not coffee milk tea boba substitutes, this place is it. Will definitely be coming back! read more

I LOVED THIS PLACE! Cute, quiet, quaint place. The vibe is second to none! The coffee was AMAZING; I got a Dark Moon (baristas choice). I seriously cannot wait to go back and take a timeout from the busyness of life. I'm a coffee snob and this is my new favorite spot. You have to try it! read more

Lava Coffee - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Katy, Texas

When we came no one was here. Service was lacking and no attempt at making us feel welcome. If there isn't another customer in your store maybe bring the food/beverage to the table and just add a little customer service. The cappuccino is lacking and the espresso is weak and was scalded. The sausage breakfast croissant is lacking and is on the same level of a premade Jimmy dean breakfast sandwich. We ordered 3 of them. One without cheese and they said "oh I guess we can just pull off the cheese"... like obviously you can pull the cheese off, I don't need a walk through of what needs to be done to take care of it... and one of the sandwiches came out cold. We mentioned it and they remicrowaved the sandwich. Then after it was microwaved again we had to once again go to the counter to get the sandwich read more

The staff is very nice and knowledgeable. Amazing coffee from Houston based roaster Amaya, with a great selection of house made syrups, and high quality tea. Perfect chill spot for studying, reading, or simply getting away from home. Highly recommend! read more

5/5 for the coffee and atmosphere, 6/5 on the bathrooms, as good as at Buc-ee's. Perfect place to study or just hang out. It's also nice to have a pumpkin drink that actually had pumpkin flavor instead of just the spices? read more

After reading the reviews I decided to try Lava Coffee, and I am glad I did. I tried the Dark Moon, coffee with dark chocolate and butterscotch, and OMG, it was delicious. Coffee flavor was amazing and the dark chocolate made it very rich. Having it again after I try some of the other types of coffee. I also had the Nutella Cheesecake and it was very good too. The store is charming and has a nice and warming atmosphere. The girls working the day I was there were super friendly and explained to me some of their specialty coffees. read more

Lava Coffee - Earl Grey Blueberry Muffin so good! - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Katy, Texas

Reeeally wanted to like this coffee shop since there aren't any good ones in this area, and it's so cute. Disappointed they do not offer house made syrups, but about 15 store-bought. House syrups are what make a coffee shop. Also, I asked for a hot latte but was given an iced latte. You can taste the artificial sweetener of the syrup. Pastries were good though! read more

I give it a 3/5 because although the food & drink was amazing the ambiance wasn't. Staff wasn't the friendliest and not a welcoming place.

A good list of different flavored coffees. I don't particularly like coffee, but this place has me second guessing that. Would recommend highly read more

Came in on a Saturday afternoon and just one other person was seated. Very spacious and lots of access to outlets, which is always something I look for if I need an extended study sessions. They have cold and hot drinks, including fruity and flavored beverages, lots of pastries, and some sandwich options as well. Near the counter, there is a massive anime/manga bookshelf and some board games in the back. Overall a great experience and I can't wait to come back! read more

Just a quaint hidden gem in the new Katy Asian Town, good coffee w fun syrups to try and mix with...

Good tasty coffee, I think I just found my new coffee spot! The atmosphere was very relaxing and calm with plenty of seats. My son loves the manga books on the book shelf that's available to read while you're there. Customer service was superb, they were very accommodating and friendly. We also bought cake pops and they were delicious, perfect texture and sweetness, a little on the small side but the cuteness and taste made up for it and they were $1.79. I don't have pictures of them because kids devoured them! read more

Such a big hit or miss. We have been here 5 times now. When the drinks are good they're GOOD! 5/5 BUT When the barista is off...the drinks are 2/5 at best. Consistency seems to be the issue. If all the baristas could remain consistent this could be a 4/5 or 5/5. read more

Pretty cute chop. I had the iced honey Bear latte. Loved the honey taste but overall thought the drink was too sweet and wished the coffee flavor was stronger. I would return with friends but would add an extra shot to any iced latte. read more

I was really excited to try this place since a lot of ppl told me it was good. I ordered an iced chai latte and was disappointed. It tasted like literal milk with cinnamon sugar in it.
