Laszlo is an average bar in the Mission district. Maybe the problem is that there are so many good bars around and that make Lazlo look worse than what it is. I go to this bar often when there is not much going on in the area. It's a small bar and the drinks are not cheap but we have always met interesting people. The drinks are good and they are probably better than the ones offered by other bars and the bartenders are very attentive and always take care of the regulars. Last time we went there the place was packed, it was almost impossible to get a cocktail, we ended up having to go somewhere else. read more

Walked into Laszlo after dinner with friends on a Sunday night. Looking in from the street it looks small but once you walk in you realize there's a stair leading to more seating upstairs (cozy seating by the way). I like the vibe there, it's chill and inviting; not at all pretentious. The bartenders were really nice and acknowledged you as soon as you sat down. I forgot what my cocktail was called but i do know it was with mezcal and sea salt (super good if you like refreshing yet slightly smoky drinks). My friends had some beers (tecate & west coast IPA) and my fiancé had the dickel pickle (whiskey shot with pickleback for chase)They were playing really cool but different music and an old movie that was being projected on the wall. My friends and I were looking for a place that played hip hop music and I knew the dj that was playing at this particular venue on a Saturday night so we decided to head here. We were really surprised at what we found. They charged us $5/head TO GET INTO the place. This was the first time any of us came in here so we didn't realize that it is JUST A BAR - no dance floor! But the music is super loud as though it was a dance club. It is super small, gets crowded and the music is super loud so you can't really have a normal conversation. So basically, you're in there either drinking and sitting around or standing and bobbing your head, which is what we saw a lot of people doing. My group and a couple of girls tried to make a tiny dance floor but it just didn't feel right in this tiny space. So I don't have any clue as to why they would charge any amount for people to get in to just buy a drink. On the bright side, the women's bathroom is pretty nice and clean. read more

4 stars for the Bloody Mary and our awesome bartender! Stopped by here while waiting for our table at Foreign Cinema. All three of us ordered the bloody mary and asked for it to be extra spicy and our bartender said it was already pretty spicy. He wasn't lying about it being spicy or delicious. I'm not a fan of tomato juice, but this was out of this world delicious. You could feel the heat hit the back of your throat and warm up your belly. After an amazing unofficial Tom R event at Jay n Bee's bar in the Mission this evening, a group of yelpers and meetup.com'ers decided to go to Laszlo this evening. This was my first time here and to be honest, I was really impressed with the place and the professionalism of the staff. Well, up to a certain point that is. As I was hanging with my friends and having a fantastic time, I turned around and noticed that my more than half full drink had suddenly disappeared. Now everyone that knows me knows that I am the nicest guy and tonight especially, I had plenty of money so I wasn't trying to milk drinks, but all of a sudden, my more than half full drink was gone. I super nicely and politely asked the bartender and bar back what happened to my drink and his response shocked the h#ll out of me. I just couldn't understand it. The bar back was really nice and professional and told me that he would never take my drink which was less than half full and I believed him. He, like the bouncer, had the demeanor and attitude befitting an establishment such as this. The bartender, whose name was confirmed numerous times this evening as Phil, was a total d#ck. What really breaks my heart and I bet even he could confirm this, is that I was so nice in the way I went about asking about my missing drink. I was super polite and tactful in the way I asked about what happened to my drink, but in the process, another yelper (whose name per her request shall remain anonymous) mentioned yelp, upon which the bartender literally said out loud in front of everyone, "F#CK YELP, I DON'T GIVE A SH#T ABOUT YELP!" Hello...I don't need that. I didn't want any grief or drama and calmly walked away from this classless individual, upon which some other people of our group got into it with him and I later found out that he then took away a full drink of another friend and yelper. I found the whole situation embarassing and didn't need the drama, but as I left the bar by my own choice, I did explain the actions of the unpleasant and unexplanably unprofessional and obnoxious bartender with other Laszlo staff and was told more than once, "Oh yes, Phil is always that way! WTF! The other day, a close friend and fellow Yelper jokingly gave me a hard time that I have not had too many negative reviews since becoming Elite five months ago. Laszlo has good bloody marys. This is important to know if you are unfortunate enough to poison your taste buds with a bloody mary that tastes more like a dogs ass from the nearby Medjool rooftop cafe. Laszlo will make it all better, I promise. They will also make life a little better should you have to wait an unreasonably long amount of time for a table at their neighboring restaurant Foreign Cinema. I highly recommend waiting though, instead of doing practical things like making reservations, and letting Laszlo take care of your alcohol consumption needs because what is a yummy brunch or dinner without a little bit of an alcohol buzz? But wait, there's more. Laszlo is not just the bar that will rescue you when its neighbors are letting you down. Laszlo is concrete and steel and industrial looking and has an upstairs where you can hide from people you don't like. Arrived in the Mission despite the pouring rain with the intent to have brunch at Foreign Cinema but the wait (without reservations) was 1 hour! No biggie, we decided to eat at Laszlo, their attached bar, instead (no wait time and it was pretty empty). It was Sunday morning, around 11:30AM, and it felt like my Saturday night had not yet ended. There was a pretty legit DJ spinning indie music, dim lighting, a football game playing, a movie projection on the wall, and drinks being poured. Laszlo itself is pretty cool. There's a small upstairs area if you want more privacy, or you could sit at the bar/the couches downstairs. There's some pretty sweet artwork on the walls, and a very laid back vibe. I really enjoyed their dinner menu but their brunch is even MORE amazing!! I had a dish with chicken sausage, thinly cut fries, avocados, what I believe to be kale hash, all mixed with some other yummy unidentifiable food. IT WAS D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S. Probably the best, most unique brunch food I've ever had. Ouu, we had a side of their slow cooked bacon too -- it's everything you love about bacon PLUS a hint of sweetness. Let's just say that you were out prowling the town. It was actually sparkling apple juice because the guy you were chatting up didn't have the flow to spend on the amount of champagne you were capable of drinking and after those 4 vodka sodas, one vicodin and 2 shots of Jaeger you beer bonged, it tasted like Cristal anyway. You somehow find yourself at Lazlo because 1. there weren't enough slicked back hair, chain wearing, 22 year old striped shirt jockeys for you at Medjool. Because 2. Bad Boyz came here on a Sunday. What a mistake? We hope to find more entertaining people here but failed. I made conversations with old people. That's not so amusing. We did however came up with a business plan. We are going to be rich and famous someday so we decided our company's name and mission. That is, to get AWESOME! They do have drinks specials daily from 6pm to 9pm, however they failed to mention that to us. The only thing I saw was Trummers for $2. I should of listen to Tiff, don't come here on Sundays. Anyway, we went over to Elbo and that was certainly better. Stopped by this bar right before dinner at Foreign Cinema. It's located right next door to the restaurant. It's a small bar with a vintage look with a side wall of old records. Upstairs is more seating and lounge area for when it gets crowded. When we stopped by it was only a few people in the bar, but then again, I would assume it only gets packed at night. We ordered 2 drinks each Southside Rickey - gin, lemon, lime, sugar and soda, this was what I ordered and it has a very strong lemon/lime taste to it. You could barely taste the gin, but after 1 drink, you can tell that there was quite a bit of alcohol in this drink. Slumdog millionaire - gin, curry leaves, pineapple gum, yellow chartreuse and lime. This is what my husband ordered and I had a sip of it. It has a strong flavor from the curry leaves, which made it unique. He enjoyed it a lot. I'm glad that there was a bar right next door for us to hang out while we waited for dinner. This is perhaps my favorite bar in San Francisco. I have gotten dates (not something I normally do at bars), met new friends, had awesome times with current friends, and even danced a bit. They usually also have the best music of any place I frequent in the city. No matter what genre, they usually pick some awesome DJs. I also enjoy the Commie theme and especially the upstairs area. I perch up there and smugly look down on everyone else until I see something (or someone) who compels me to come down. This is definitely my turf. Back off! read more

In Russian, Laszlo means dumbest bar in the Mission. Honestly, this place is utter crap. Who decided being Russian is the new trendy thing anyway? Let's just get a few things straight. Putting up fake Soviet propaganda posters does not make you cool. Calling your Mojito an I Am Cuba does not make you cool, nor Russian. Making that mojito like crap - I suppose was slightly cool & Russian - but I didn't enjoy that either. This place just screams Wannabe. If there is any tell-tale sign that Mission won't be hip in 5 years, it's the up croppings of a place like this. I'm not hip. I'm 180 degrees opposite of hip and I was practically the coolest person there. iBankers in blazers in the Mission? I don't want to hear dorks talking about trailing P/E ratios while ordering their I Am Cubas. If I'm in the Mission, I want to overhear people talking about the time they strangled a pirate off the coast of Peru and then spent 5 days cliff-diving and eating spider monkeys while smoking peyote. Dance club? Really? Where? Hmmm. Well there was no booty shakin for me here last night, but there was plenty of entertainment in the form of white man's overbite. Wow, was it a middle age man single mixer last night or what? Besides our party of cool Internet dorks (yes, I am an Internet dork too) there was just a slew of dudes wearing North Face jackets and khaki pants. Ooof. Definitely not my type of guy. We've all been here before... it's midnight and the night is kind of foggy. You can't quite figure out if it's because you've had a few too many or the night is actually filled with literal fog. The Mission is slurring as a whole and your quest seems lackluster so you grab a drink. You secretly dream that you could be dinning at what seems to be the hottest place in town in Lazlo's backyard but alas, you're at the bar wallowing what's left of your night away. Laszlo is a nicer looking bar in the Mission, There is nothing wrong with that. We went to Laszlo after visiting Medjool, continuing a nice night of bar hopping. They had a nice bar, a nice selection of booze, the atmosphere was a cool laid back vibe, the music was nice and it wasn't too loud where you couldn't talk. We were there on a Friday night and it wasn't terribly crowded, which was nice. They had a second floor balcony type area which helped disperse people around the bar. You could look down on to everyone below you. It reminded me of a couple of places in San Diego. Finally, A good thing was the prices were reasonable for a nicer looking bar in the Mission area. 4 of us walked in and my friend requested to see what was their happy hour specials. The lady behind the bar said stoli and tummer. My friend goes can we get 4 tummers and 2 stoli sodas. She goes you can't double fist buddy, smirks, and walks away. The reason why my friend ordered two extra beers was because the service is extremely slow. It took a good 10 minutes before we got served and the bar wasn't even that full. For a mission st bar, just because you are next to foreign cinema doesn't make you that great of a bar. It feels very pretentious. It feels as though I'm in the Marina district. It feels as though they are in the Marina district. But......if you walked outside.there is a vacant old abandon theatre, low riders, drunks and drug dealers. It just felt kinda weird in there. It's a cool place, don't get me wrong. Laszlo was not for me. We walked in for a drink only because of its proximity to Foreign Cinema, where we planned to have dinner. My man and I were saddled down with two large pieces of luggage plus some other bags, otherwise I would have suggested we move somewhere a bit more welcoming. To be clear, the bartender was nice and the music great but the crowd was a bit rough. And the whole bar reeked of the cigarette smoke that wafted in from the patrons who stepped outside. It gives me some nostalgia back of the days where I had to see them everyday at school, at my neighborhood, at the bus station. Lenin, the nameless soviet socialist worker hero, the rusian chicks working for the good of the party and the country. I came in here with friends from out of the state, and they loved it. We had a lot to drinkt, and we noticed that the chicks in here were not even looking at us. No wonder. This is a major lesbian spot for happy hour.
