Went there on a Friday night for after work happy hour, their HH menu was limited to one cocktail I was not interested in. I tried a couple of pricey cocktail instead and it was not worth it. I also think the food from foreign cinema is overrated but that'll be for another review. About the ambiance, the bar was literally empty (our group + a couple) when we arrived (it was 6:30pm) and was getting a bit busier when we left (after 9). The upstairs part was close, No DJ, and one bartender. I am not saying it was bad at all, but the mission offers a ton of possibility that are definitely more fun, that I would pick over this. read more

This was our 2nd stop after Medjool's, very cool since we were partying w/ cool people (Srini & Jay!!!) The bar is small, interior is a bit dive but most of the time, that's just the perfect recipe for: FUN! Creep alert though...met some guys, one of them wanted to talk to me so told me that he and his buddies were foster brothers. HUH?? Is that a pick-up line? REALLY?? Then, the one guy who had a girlfriend ended up staying at the bar to chat w/ me when all his buddies decided to leave. At least he revealed that they were all buddies NOT foster brothers. Definitely a good spot to go to if you have plans to go eat at Foreign Cinema but I do not think I would go out of my way just to drink here again. The place is not that big, there is an upstairs area as well as a downstairs area around the bar, seating is limited. We came here on a Saturday night and the place was packed! Thankfully our cousins showed up early and saved us a table near the entrance of the place. Just like others have mentioned, the music can get really loud! We enjoyed the music they were playing though, old school hip hop, music from the 90's, stuff you would have heard in the club in the past 10 years! It's street parking, so cross your fingers that you find a safe spot close to the bar. Restrooms: Separate restrooms for men and women. The restrooms are shared with Foreign Cinema so they were decent and stocked with toilet seat covers and toilet paper. The women's restroom had 3 stalls. read more

This place saved my Saturday night. First off, I mistakenly assumed heading to a big club would be fun. Ofcourse, 5 minutes into being at the club, I realized: a.) I'm no longer a recent college grad b.) I don't wear bling bling or stunner shades and c.) I don't live in the ... Anyway, I checked this place out as an alternate and it definitely had all the makings for a great time out. Decently priced drinks, great music (live dj with mc) and a very cool setup. This review is for Sunday brunch at Laszlo. First up, that champagne mimosa cocktail. I think I've been spoilt for life now, other mimosas can not compare. Glorious! Two of these cocktails whilst waiting for the food to arrive and I was feeling on top of the world. Then, the food itself is spectacular. A champagne omelet for brunch? Yes please! Just when you think things can't get any better - try their bacon as a side or the homemade pop tarts. In addition to the cocktails and menu options, the staff are also super lovely. I was visiting with some friends who were about to get married and are regular Laszlo brunchers so voila, a round of tequila shots appeared. Quite the boozy Sunday brunch but I'm not complaining. I left feeling extremely daytime drunk but also sad that I wasn't in SF for another weekend brunch. Whenever I return to the Mission, I'll be at Laszlo Sunday morning sipping on a champagne mimosa cocktail. read more

Five stars for the bloody mary, that's what this is all about. We'd come to Foreign Cinema as I'd been having a bloody mary jones. But, as is often the case, the wait was long and we ended up killing some time at Laszlo's. The bloody urge is not going away, so whatthefuck, we order one there. I'm immediately impressed with the time and effort taken. This was an artisan's mary, friends. I can't be sure, but mayhaps Guinness was involved, along with 5-6 other things. I like 'em real spicy and savory. I like pickled veggies and them lil' onions. Bingo. What emerged was outstanding. This is currently my favorite bloody mary in the city... but I haven't been there since (this was about 2 months ago) and I'm just hoping that damn bartender who's name I didn't get is there next time I go. Good vibes, good music, no cover! We went on a friday night. Parking was so easy! Some may say the are is kinda sketch, but with all the bar people wandering the streets you should be fine. It was pretty packed inside. The bouncers were chill. From what I remember the drinks were really priced well. Not those crazy prices that I've come to be used to at many bars. The DJ was spinning REAL vinyls. Respect for that, he was playing the jams too. The bartenders....not as friendly as others have said but it probably was because it was so crowded. (which I don't know why a bartender would be mad about that. crowded bar = more tips for them) HINT: there was a hot dog lady 5 feet away. She wasn't as good as the OG dirty dog guy but it was still satisfying. read more

This is one of those places where people from other neighborhoods go to "slum it" in the Mission. You'll see a lot of popped collars, fancier-than-befits-the-Mission outfits, credit cards and the $11-15 drinks to go with all of that. There's a valet outside if you didn't come in a party bus, but street parking isn't *that* hard in this part of the Mission (but why you would drive to this area when there is a bus stop in front of the bar and BART 3 blocks away is beyond me). Taxis know to hover near here at closing time. It's often crowded and takes a while to get a drink. The drinks are mixed well, but I usually defer to beer or wine for efficiency. It's nice that you can order/eat food from neighbor Foreign Cinema, but it's not the best experience if it's super-crowded, and it's a little too fancy for bar food. I don't volunteer this place to friends but I don't have a huge problem coming here when others suggest it. read more

This is a nice place to get a drink. Nothing about it blows me out of the water, but it has a good atmosphere and the bartenders are friendly. Also, they have very generous wine pours, which earns them a special place in this wine loving girl's heart. The big pours come in handy when you have to sit and talk to a "friend of a friend" who is wearing a pretentious scarf, keeps talking about how unstimulating it is to be back in San Francisco after a recent trip to Europe, and puts his hand on your thigh a mere 30 seconds into the conversation. read more

Laid back, super cool bar... sandwiched between Medjool and Foreign Cinema. Less douche bags than Medjool, and less formal than Foreign Cinema. Loved it. Been here twice, and had a fun time both times. You can actually carry on a conversation, it's not too loud. And they play good music. If you're bored you can watch trippy movies on the wall. The bartenders are super nice here. My girlfriend's drink immediately (after ordering) spilled all over the floor (slippery sucker), and the bartender replaced her drink free of charge. I've jettisoned fast and emphatically enough from their personal-space-invasive, unmannerly, top-decibled confines to cause a sonic boom many a time, with only my extended middle finger ever to consider heading their direction again. Though my enswoonment with Laszlo remains unflagging, the recent memories of a manhole-cover-sized tray of oysters and cocktails non-cloyingly femmed up with violet flower liqueur remain fresh in my mind from a week ago, and the eager anticipation of our next excursion Laszloward on a Tuesday ot Thursday as turgid as... things that become turgid, I am compelled to proffer my fist solemnly toward yours for a solidarity knuckle-kiss of recognition. ;) read more

Five stars for Gail, the bartendress who kicks ass, & for being smart enough to have DMadness and Zita in every 3rd Saturday. Minus one star for occasionally bringing in too LA a crowd, and for how said crowd helps the place descend into a grimy little pen before it even hits midnight. Gail is sweet, but not in the sugary sweet (yecch) way- she's more like a sweetart: sweet with a bit of tang. She let us in before anyone else so my partner and I could get some engagement photos @ his favorite SF bar. While our photographer shot away, she made us special cocktails (my fave was "Gail No. 18": a martini concoction w/ pumpkin butter, nutmeg, and tequila that's to-die-for-- and named after our wedding date!); she impressed our photog w/ her knowledge of cameras and photography, AND when we were about to leave she wouldn't let us pay her anything. She made our night, needless to say. DMadness is a friend from back in the day, and when he and his partner/ wife get on the tables, you can tell they know what kinda music gets into the bones of those of us who were still in jr high during the golden age of hip hop. The two of them together are just pure nostalgia and good vibes. So get yourself to this joint on a 3rd Saturday, try to find Gail, order her No. 18, and get set for a night of great music. read more

This place is dark like the Comet Club, but very stylish/hipster on the inside. It's not a place where I see anything except sporadic 2 second dancing, yet the music is cranked all the way up. Their Tecate is some of the best in the city. Good place for a friend date. Sometimes on Thursdays there's a really cute DJ with mullety hair. Her music is kind of spooky, electronic, and eclectic to the vibe of the bar, but her stylish looks and emotionally enveloping red lipstick will likely distract you from all of that. Also the limes that are served with their drinks are above average in size. read more

At first, it seems like a squeeze, but there's plenty of seating upstairs. I went for the Thrillist Mad Men party, at which I only had gin drinks and they were already paid for, so unfortunately I can't judge the other cocktails or the pricing. I was very impressed that the bartenders slaved at squeezing fresh lemon and lime juices for all the Tom Collinses and gimlets - though I was pretty impatient when it took them longer. They were extremely gracious and helpful when I kept asking about the different cocktails. The only bad thing about my time there was some drink called the Negroni. It made all of us actually shudder when we tasted it. read more

I used to walk past this bar on my way home from work and never bothered going in because I thought it was too hipster for me. It's actually not bad. I did order a double drink and thought it wasn't stiff enough, but what saved last night was the music the DJ was playing. The Pharcyde, Q-Tip, and other hip-hop tracks. You can have the worst bar ever, but I'll still enjoy the place if you play the right music. The dress code isn't strict at all either. I just walked in with t-shirt, jeans, and a pair of sneakers. read more

I have to come back when I really mean it... Stumbled upon this place after finding out Foreign Cinema was already closed until dinner. Not a bad alternative! I got a basil gimlet -- it was perfection in a cup. Strong, spicy and fresh. On par with some of the best gimlets I've had, and when I least expected it. Loud music, great ambiance, friendly bartenders. Plus you get access to the wonderful toilets of Foreign Cinema. Fantastic place to watch any NBA/sports game. read more

Had a really bad experience at Lazlo. After sitting at the bar for 15 minutes without being acknowledged and finally getting the attention of the bar tender, I ordered a Bloody Mary. They were out of their house pickles so without acknowledgement replaced them with olives, would have been nice to give the heads-up. On top of that the Bloody Mary is suppose to come with a top shelf liquor but instead the bar tender used Seagrams vodka. Not that I could taste the difference but definitely a principle issue. I got the check and asked the bartender to swap the price for a well drink since he used well vodka which he did, saving me a grand total of $1. I've been to Lazlo a bunch of times but am reluctant to go back. Hopefully they get a bit more courteous and most importantly truthful about their drinks. Although probably wouldn't be able to taste the difference the principle is there when paying $12+ for a cocktail. read more

I've been coming to this bar for, well, 17 years, I've watching it morph into an oasis all black Cold-War-Chic bar when that stretch of Mission was sleepy to this day when it's recently updated, access to Foreign Cinema Food, a great spill over spot from Alamo or El Techo, and when you just aren't feeling the Mission Dive Bar Vibe for the night. I absolutely love this bar. I recently hung out here with some friends after a great meal at foreign cinema and was very satisfied. The crowed was young and very laid back. I loved the bar tenders, they were hilarious and could make any drink into liquid perfection. The floor can get crowded as the night progresses but if you want to escape the pandemonium there is a great loft-lounge upstairs. There are three really comfortable couches which are cozy and make for an intimate setting for you and that special someone, or for you and drunk friends! Either way check this place out, it is a great ending (or beginning) bar for a night out. --CAUTION: if you tend to be absent minded, keep hold of valuables, this bar is extremely dark and it is easy to lose track of things. read more

Came here for a friend's bday celebration last night. (Happy Bday Lilly!) Good drinks, good music, and cool space. I especially liked that they mimicked Foreign Cinema's "movie-on-the-wall" concept. We came on a Saturday night and so it was especially packed with people. Total sardine city, but was still fun. I suppose weeknights are much more chill here where you can actually get a seat. With so many great restaurants in the Mission my friends and I have been frequenting Laszlo after our dinner dates. It is within walking distance of the restaurants we go to and a good place to pop in, grab a few drinks, and hear great music (90's hip hop and mashups). Unlike other bars in the area, this place has a lounge like atmosphere, plenty of open seating, and plays movies on the TV! There's only 1 reason I go to Laszlo: Heat Seeker: Absolute Peppar, fresh lime juice and Cointreau, shaken and strained. The buildup is a little sweet, the finish is hot. This place has a lot going for it. It's nestled between Foreign Cinema and Medjool, so it's always a busy scene. Sometimes it gets too crowded, but that's typical for Mission joints. Dim lighting and cool mirrors hanging behind the bar greet you as you walk into Laszlo. Ideally positioned adjacent to Foreign Cinema, Laszlo offers a hip, (albeit) very loud environment. Drinks are served up in a timely fashion and made fairly well. The bartenders seem to genuinely enjoy mixing up cocktails and dancing around. I stopped in here with the wifey to round out our Happy Hour crawl through the Mission one friday. $2 Trumer Pils was calling me. so here goes. Atmosphere (4): Seemed pretty cool and hip. Definitely comfy, pretty clean, lots of light (I hate drinking in the dark). Clientele (3): There wasn't anything wrong with the people here, there just weren't very many. A lot of the nearby places had a lot of people, but it seems that this place does not get going until later maybe? Not a big problem for me, but i do like a lively happy hour environment. Food (N/A): Didn't try any and not sure that they have any. Drinks (Incomplete): Not sure how the selection is, but it seems that they had a full bar. Not sure that I saw any draft beers, but again, i still have to explore and update. Value (5): $2 beers, $5 vodka. Even i can afford that. Service (4): Fast and efficient on my visit. We were there last night after SF Indie Fest Wrap Party across the street at 12 Galaxies. WHAT an AWESOME PLACE Laszlo is! It's swanky yet unpretentious. The chardonnay I had was great. My friends enjoyed the lemon drops. The upstairs area is cozy and complete with comfy coaches and sitting places. The music was at the perfect noise level for me ... esp. from the 2nd flr. I always prefer Laszlo's over Mejool because it's cool without overdoing it. Laszlo has serious space and tables, an upstairs that looks down on the rest of the bar, good DJs and, of course, the supertrickedout obscure DVDs projected on the exposed brick wall. I like the service here as well. Never paid a cover here, either. read more
