I'm extremely saddened by my last trip to Lacquer. I do want to make it clear that the technician was extremely friendly and tried her absolute best and I do not think she was the direct problem here. I went to get a gel manicure after having repeated gel mani's from a different salon named Coated. They also do not use drills or harsh chemicals/regimens on your nails. I had my removal done and the tech mentioned my nails were thin because of the removal and I understood but I also thought that after the mani my nails would have a hard top coat and that was the point of getting gel (?) so your natural nail still grows nicely without the tarnish of extensions or possibility of breakage. Normally after a manicure one is extra careful with their nails because they are just so used to sitting still and having someone else focus on their hands but a few hours after the manicure one realizes they can be normal with their hands & everything is set/dry/done whatever it may be. I quickly realized I could not be "normal" with my fingers or even act as if I had nails at all, they gel was immediately peeling off of the natural nail as if the one coat wasn't enough to stay on & again this is the same day as the manicure. The next day I scratched my back & I broke a nail! I called Lacquer though with no panic or rudeness because I knew they would take care of me they have always been great (even though I've never had THIS problem). Lacquer had me email all sorts of pictures and I did, the manager called me back and basically said I can come back & they could fix it & I can still pay for it. They basically said my nails were the problem even though like I said I've been getting gel manis every two weeks at another place that's the same & have NEVER had an issue like this at all whatsoever. I'm so extremely disappointed and I will never ever be back seeing as the manicure was $110 this time & this is the mani I got & the respect I received as well. read more

Easy online booking. Great nail art for an eight year old. Super friendly welcome, comfortable retail location downtown. Artist was very detailed, friendly, and patient. Great art for the holidays that our creative child likes a lot. The place and employees have an easy-going style. Only downside: Parking was $13 on the weekend, and AMLI isn't covered by Lacquer. So $53 (with tip) was pricey but fair for the high-quality experience. But with an unexpected $13 parking charge it became $66 -- leaving a bad taste and docking a star. Showed up on time for my nail appointment but the system showed I was booked at another location. I didn't know there was a second location. And I had called to make the appointment, aka THEY booked the wrong location so they clearly screwed up. The catch: they're slapping me with a 50% cancellation fee? Cancellations are for NO SHOWS. I booked my appointment for a shellac manicure while on a road trip, the lady at the front desk was nice and she scheduled me for the next morning. I was inspired by the very nice and clean location but frankly my manicure was not up to par. I'm very familiar with CND products, as I get my nails done once a month so I was really disappointed when the polish started to chip only a few days later, this place is not cheap and since I know the products are good I was expecting it to last up to 3 weeks as usual. I had to remove the polish only a week and a half later cause it was starting to peel off and would get stuck to my hair every time I touched them. I felt a little uneasy looking at the prices at this nail salon but I was desperate for a manicure and pedicure and this was the closest to our hotel. After sitting down the front desk offered us a beverage. We had the choice between water, tea, or wine. We waited a short amount of time before a nail technician asked us to take a seat for our mani pedis. Our nail technician was super friendly and had great customer service. We had great conversations and laughs. I felt really good about paying a little bit more than another place. This place caught my attention via Yelp because of the cute, simplistic decor and when I saw the prices I was a little skeptical but once I read WHY they're so expensive I was onboard. I will pay more for ethical business practices and businesses that support women. I had a essential pedicure done, they had a good variety of gel colors, and I loved the heating pads on the chairs and foot stool. However I will say I felt a little awkward and uncomfortable in the chairs with the way my feet were being placed but maybe I'm just out of shape and got a little core workout (; Carolyn gave me a great pedicure!! Really disappointed about my appointment yesterday. I was getting a French manicure and everything seemed to be going great until I turned down the items the nail tech was trying to upsell me (exfoliant and cuticle oil). As soon as I said no to the products, it was like I was a complete bother. She rushed my manicure and didn't clean up any of the mistakes. My nails look ugly, messy, and they've already started chipping on the ends. I'm pretty embarrassed about them. The front desk girl said I could come back to get them redone within the next 5 days but unfortunately I have no time to come in because of my hectic work schedule! So I'm stuck with disgusting nails that are not worth what I paid! The receptionist said she would see if she would accommodate me downtown, but all she did was call the other location to discuss charging me. (Why would I pay for a No Show appointment if 1] I did show and 2] at no point did they confirm the location of my appointment or take my email to send a confirmation.) I made an appointment for myself and two others as part of a spa weekend get together prior to one of our party having a baby. The appointment was at noon on July 18, for three pedicures and two manicures. 1. On July 7, I made an appointment for two manicures and three pedicures, for three people, all coming at the same time (noon). 2. On July 7, Laquer emailed me a confirmation. 3. On July 18 at 10:06am, I received a text message confirming the appointment. 4. On July 18 at 10:53am I missed a call from Lacquer. We were having brunch so I did not answer or even see that I received a call until brunch was over at around 11:45am. Having received an email confirmation a week ago and having just received a text confirmation some minutes before, and knowing that our appointment was in a 15 minutes, I didn't think that I needed to confirm by phone too and didn't worry. 5. We went to Lacquer. The woman working at reception told us that one of appointments for a manicure had been rescheduled for 11am. It was now noon, that appointment time was over, and the only call Lacquer had made was seven minutes before the new time. Confirmation had come via SMS just minutes before that. The receptionist insisted that there was no way that Lacquer sent a confirmation since the appointment was changed the day before. She insisted the Lacquer had called the day before as well. When I showed her my phone, she said that my phone was wrong and insisted that she had called previously. She ignored the fact that I had a confirmation text from the same day too. The receptionist didn't seem to care that there was a problem, and gave the impression of being annoyed that I was annoyed that she changed our appointment despite sending confirmation. She never apologized and treated the last-minute schedule change like it was our fault for somehow not knowing that there was a change despite receiving confirmations that everything was in order earlier that day. She also did not see how changing one manicure for one person out of three an hour before every else's appointment was a problem. 7. The manicure and pedicure was mostly fine, but the pedicurist, while filing a callus, filed the top of my foot and took some of the skin off. The second time it happened I complained and she said it was because my callus was "too soft." I never had any calluses on the top of my foot and I don't see how having a "soft" callus on the bottom of my feet would be a problem for a pedicurist. I t was a noticeable red wound upon leaving (a friend who was with me noticed it immediately despite not really looking at my feet) Two weeks later, it is still healing and I still have a thick scab. To be fair, the manager later sent me a nice email offering a free visit for the mixup. That is why this review is not one star. Someone there cares, even if it isn't my receptionist, scheduler or technician. This doesn't make up for changing an appointment time (to an inconvenient time), not contacting me, lying about it, and then hurting me though. The store promotes Yelp reviews, and offers free cuticle oil to customers who check in form Yelp. Which prompted me to come here as well. read more

Everyone here is very friendly. The prices are reasonable and they were very accommodating when we had to change our appointment to the next day. The space is beautiful - very clean, posh, without the hoity toitiness some salons have. They have a good selection of nail polish and it felt like more of a spa experience than just any mani/pedi place. Everything was well designed. The quality of the pedicure though spans a wide range. I went with a friend and her pedi was pretty different from mine, but we both paid the same price. Hers was also about 10 minutes longer than mine, which makes a difference considering that you're paying for a relaxing service. My friend got a lot more attention paid to her feet and her pedicure was more thorough than mine for sure. The basic steps were the same, but depending on your pedicurist/manicurist you'll get different treatments. So be vigilant when you get your treatment to make sure you get everything that's supposed to be included. My pedicure was okay, but it certainly wasn't the best. My feet didn't feel as clean and "tidy" as they usually do after a pedi to be honest. We got the classic pedicure for $35. read more

Three weeks after my appointment with Lacquer and my gel nails still look great. Only one minor chip...this is definitely a new record for me. Jessica did my manicure and she was so kind, genuinely nice to talk to and did a great job, clearly. I've also received numerous compliments on them since she helped me pick out a pretty color for my base and a cute glitter for my accent nail. (I was feeling a little adventurous) It's definitely expensive and high end- which did not come as a surprise given the location downtown. But sometimes you just need to treat yo'self and go somewhere where they play nice music, offer you drinks, and is generally filled with pleasant staff. Also, now I know my mani lasts this long, I'm thinking a manicure every three weeks vs. every two probably evens out in the end. I will not lie and say I'm giving up my loud, sort of smelly, cheap nail place that I got to when I just need a quick brow wax and polish change... BUT I will say that Lacquer will definitely be visited once a month from now on, because damn... let me love myself! read more

Just moved to Austin from Dallas & had some friends visit & want to do their nails. This was the first salon I noticed & decided to give it a try. The receptionist at the front was extremely disinterested & snooty. (For a second I thought I was back in Dallas again) I asked if she had room for manicures and a friendly "I'm sorry we are filled today, I would love to help you book an appt. for another day" would've been more appropriate, but instead she did not make ONE second of eye contact with me while she was heavily typing, what seemed like a literature essay, on her computer..and snapped with "Umm, no. We are full." Paying more for a service that is easily found in every location, such as nails, should require a respectable atmosphere & attitude to balance the cost of the service. As a small business owner myself & a new Austin resident I'm truly saddened by this customer service experience & will unfortunately take my support elsewhere where I do not feel like I am an inconvenience to the staff. read more

I'm a nail hacker. Meaning, I am that bad habit girl who tends to keep a file in her bag and clippers at the ready in the bathroom, and tend to cut and file any nail I can too short and badly. Mainly, it's because I'm terrible at sitting still long enough to make it through an actual service, so when I find someone I trust to deal with my twitchy and bad habits honestly I stick with them. I recently visited lacquer for the first time to follow my holy grail tech Vivianne there and was super impressed. The online was super easy to work with, check in and start time was right on the nose, and the whole vibe was super relaxing. Plus with some validated parking as a nearby option, there's really no reason to not give it a try! The big comfy chairs for pedis were relaxing enough for me not to feel too antsy for while Vivianne worked her magic (did I mention my bad hacking habits? Sorry girl!) she's always been a rockstar for whatever I need, and her nail art is pretty awesome. Mostly though, I followed her because she's always been patient with me, and will give you real honest advice if you ask/need help with your nails. The color choices are pretty solid as well, just make sure to keep tabs on what lines are upgraded fees for. Pricing can get a bit high past their classic services, but for the chill vibe of your surroundings while still being downtown it's really not that bad. I'd do splurge trip in for their special footlogic pedicure besides my maintenance visits. read more

I had an excellent pedicure service by Ashley. What sets nail salons apart for me is the attention to detail. Ashley was very meticulous, going over the edges and creating beautiful lines. Everything at the salon is high end from the application, appliances, chairs, and choice of polish. They have Chanel, Dior, Tom Ford, Smith + Cult, along with regular brands like OPI and Essie. She wasn't the warmest or most talkative one in the bunch. I got wind that I passed a really difficult exam mid-morning, so I decided to treat myself to a pedi at lunch. I called LACQUER and they said they had an available spot if I came in immediately...so I did, and then I waited 25 mins there. First of all, this nail salon is beautiful, and they have spent a lot of money building it out to look like a boutique. Exposed ceilings, Coco Chanel quotes on canvas, offering you infused water or wine, plenty of magazines. It is a cute place and very fitting with the posh warehouse district vibe; gold black and white classy decor..but personally I am a little tired of the overdone "keep your standards high and your heels higher" quotes. I grabbed a magazine and prepared for relaxation...my pedicurist was a little too talkative and I felt like I had to continue the conversation so I didn't get to read my magazine. I didn't necessarily want to spend an hour making small talk with a lady (albeit she was very sweet) but it is what it is. The pedicure was nice but not worth it, $40 later and I had a chipped nail the next day. They have a wonderful selection of polishes and I may give them another chance if I need a downtown fix...but only if I really NEED to. read more

I had a great experience and they were so kind. I will say, though I FULLY expected to pay the difference between gel and regular polish, I didn't expect it to be $20. Ok so I'm not a person to leave any review, good or bad, but I had a crummy experience and I'm not thrilled about it. I had booked myself and my daughter an appointment at 10:30 on Saturday am knowing what we had on our schedule that day and thinking that was a feasible time. I got a text after I booked asking me to move my appointment to 10 and I said ok and cancelled my daughters appointment as our plans had changed. I received text confirmation of the appt change and cancellation as well as an email confirmation of the cancellation. On Saturday I arrived a bit late for my appointment as that extra half hour was hard to shave off of our morning. Upon arriving they let me know I wouldn't have time for my whole service which is fine and totally understandable. They were then waiting expectantly for my daughter. When I told them I had cancelled her appointment they gave me a hard time and were visibly annoyed. I was taken to sit down and I tried to show the girl doing my manicure the text I received and she wouldn't even acknowledge that I was showing it to her. Aside from how rude everyone was when I first arrived (it fell very uncomfortable, and I used to be a stylist so I understand things happen) the girls were nice during the service. I got a gel manicure on a Saturday. By Monday, the nail polish on one finger chipped off half way. On Tuesday, the nail polish on another finger chipped off. As of today, Wednesday morning, another nail has peel off and another is chipped. Keep in mind I work in an office and keep great maintenance of my nails with nail oil and moisturizing. I have never had this happen with gel before and it's a super bummer, especially on top of feeling uncomfortable in the salon. This was my favorite place to go downtown so that stinks. I had great other experiences there, so I take this as you will. read more
