Stopped in for a Father's Day dinner and it the spot! We were quoted a 20 minute wait but were sat in under 5 minutes. We were seated outside in the patio, which is covered with fans so it did not feel hot. We ordered the spinach queso dip and it was the perfect shareable. Decided to try La Piñata for lunch as soon as I saw green chile on their menu. The restaurant was pretty busy, but we were seated right away. As soon as we sat down, chips and salsa were brought to our table. The chips were fresh, and the salsa was not spicy but had great flavor. They have lunch menu specials. I ordered the green chile burrito. The burrito was big and can easily be shared. It was delicious and I was not disappointed with my choice. My boyfriend ordered the red chili burrito, and he also enjoyed his food. Our server was great and checked on us often. If you want Mexican food like you had growing up. The the plates are full, there is no shortage of cheese and they have great specials. Then you have to come to this restaurant. It was my first time here and I was definitely not disappointed. We actually came on taco Tuesday where they have a special of $2.50 tacos and everyone was getting them. Generous amount of steak and cheese on the plate, the charbroiled steak was cooked masterfully tender and juicy, yet cooked just enough with a nice marinade on the meat . Cheese was a nice compliment but not my favorite part, the steak was definitely the star of the show. The chips were a great supporting cast as it was evident they were home made with a very crunchy yet sturdy mouthfeel, had a moderate saltiness to them. I specifically asked for extra spicy salsa as well and it did not disappointed with a bit of a smoky and habanero taste. Outstanding and authentic Mexican fare in central Phoenix! My daughter and her family just moved into the area and we tried it with a larger group and our one year old granddaughter and it couldn't have been a better experience. Warm Chips and salsa upon arrival, creamy and delicious guacamole to start and a super tasty cheese crisp with whole green chili's on top. We had a combo plate with a cheese enchilada, bean tostada and a beef taco and it was very traditional and utterly delicious. We shall return! read more

I didn't know they moved. My parents used to take me there when I was a child in the 70's and I took my children there in the 90's. When my daughter told me they just move i was so happy. My friends introduced me to this place in central Phoenix. It looks small on the outside and the entrance is in the back. When entering it grew and it was very inviting. The service was excellent and the food was amazing! Their chips and salsa is very good and they brought us additional without asking. Had the chili rellenos and chicken enchiladas--ala carte as saw the enormous portions--and still took food home. He had the flautas with some great guacamole. Drove past this place for years finally to dine in and realized I've missed out all this time. I am highly impressed with this authentic Mexican restaurant. On a busy Friday night only had to wait 10-15 mins for a table. The moment we sat down we had chips and salsa. Let's say they kept them coming. Drinks were refilled before we even got close to the last sip and food was fresh. All staff from hostess, waitress and cleanup crew were extremely nice. I did not see them miss a beat at any table. Our food did take longer then normal which the server admitted and apologized but we gave them the benefit of the doubt due to being Friday. My food and my guest dinner was amazing. I had the beef fajitas and she had the chicken enchiladas. Very flavorful and fresh. We were too stuffed for dessert but will be back for some Sopapillas.
