3-tacos plate with Al Pastor and carnitas
Myrna S.

We had another great meal at La Parada Cafe. When we arrived, we checked in at the hostess' station, one person stayed to hold our place in line while the rest of our 5-person party waited outside because we didn't want to block the door. It only took a few minutes for our table to be ready and as soon as our party was seated, the server took our drink orders. Quickly after our drinks were dropped off, we placed our entree orders: quesaabirria platter, an al pastor burrito, 3-tacos plate, a breakfast burrito and a carnitas burrito. The food arrived timely at our table and the owner was kind enough to drop by our table and say "Hello". He thanked us for coming and was genuinely glad to see us even though this restaurant is consistently busy; it's still nice to hear that they appreciate our business. The food was plentiful and very good; they have the best carnitas in town (IMHO), their, al pastor, menudo and quessabirria is great well. Everyone at our table enjoyed their meals and we all left full and completely satisfied: delicious food, wonderful service and great value. What's not to love?

Tried this place out today. Unfortunately, it was not great for me. The services great. The waitress was very nice and attentive. The location is really cute! However the food was not that great. Well, except for the beans, they were amazing! The tamale was a bit dry. The eggs with nopales seemed too bland. I think my biggest disappointment was the cafe de olla. I love to taste the cinnamon but in this case it was way too strong. We added sweetener and a few creamers but it still didn't taste all that good. The potatoes served for breakfast were a bit spicy so, if you don't eat spicy beware. Keep in mind I don't have a high tolerance. I would probably go back for drinks at the bar and maybe try something different just because I really appreciated the service.

First of all I would like to say that we love the staff of this place. The family is so nice and works so hard. Brought my mom here so she could get the menudo which is a weekend menu item. She really enjoyed it, and we enjoyed our meals also. I ordered something new to me, the torta. Only torta I ever had was so dry I didn't like it. But I decided to try theirs. I am so glad I did. It was big I could only eat one half, but my husband could stop eating the other half, so I didn't have any left overs. This place is so clean and inviting.

The place was packed, so I took a seat at the bar. Omg ! What a fun and lively place for brunch!! The Bloody Mary!! Spicy deliciousness! my waitress is having a baby! Any day now!! She's working like a champ! If you come in before the 28th, which is her due date, tip, her big I did! First time here and I'm amazed at their menu! Something for everyone! From classic breakfasts to enticing Mexican food cuisine! Of course I had to try their classic eggs Benedict, so far I have tried pretty much every place that serves them here in Reno. Their ham on them is to die for !! The hollandaise...! Look out everyone else!! And the garnish! So Pretty !! Next time I come, and I WILL come back, I'm going to get a little adventurous and try some breakfast tacos !! Yep! They have those too !!

Really enjoyed the Huevos Rancheros and the Steak omelette. The refried beans were quite good. Very friendly staff and fun atmosphere. Menu is full of traditional and authentic Mexican breakfast and brunch items. Nice place to have Sunday brunch!

Came for breakfast, accidentally fell in love. I wasn't even planning on coffee, but then they said café de olla and I immediately said yes. Zero regrets. It's a must if you love good coffee. I ordered the Chilaquiles Trio (because chilaquiles are life). The chips were still a little crunchy--10/10 exactly how I like them. Rice, beans, three different salsas... chef's kiss. Totally worth it. My husband ordered the menudo (he's serious about his menudo), and even he approved. Flavorful, comforting, and paired with homemade tortillas, which automatically makes everything better. The best part? It's family-owned--mom cooking in the back, dad running the front, and everyone is super friendly. We love supporting local spots like this, and La Parada Café is officially on our "must return" list. Come hungry. Leave happy.

Breakfast dates are probably my favorite when I am allowed to slow down on my weekend. I was treated to breakfast yesterday here. I have had this locally owned joint on my list for some time and took advantage since we were nearby. They were busy, so we took a second to look at their menu before being seated and we loved their decor and ambiance. It reminded me of my times in Mexico when we'd stumble across a hole in the wall establishment where we knew the food would be authentic. It felt homey and Andrea was welcoming from our first greeting. She was also the hostess. The Staff here as a whole was great. The only downside was their prices were higher for breakfast and their plates were lacking. Food to price ratio didn't match for us. I ordered the Azteca breakfast and my love had their carnitas tacos then ordered a carne asada burrito because he was still hungry. We placed two orders of waffles to-go; one waffle breakfast $17.25 and a Belgium waffle for $16.25. The waffle breakfast is definitely a better deal with an egg and two slices of bacon for a dollar more. My food was delicious, but their plates were more like an appetizer. Their seafood looked delicious, but I can't justify spending almost $30 for soup. I'll make my own 7mares at home. Thank you Andrea for the hospitality, you were great.

Never would've known this place existed unless someone told me about it. There's street parking and also they have a small parking lot in the rear of the restaurant. Just follow the signs. The inside is decorated with plants and paintings all over. It felt like I walked into someone's home instead of a restaurant. It was so cozy and the service was friendly. Came in for brunch/lunch and was surprised the place was packed. Got seated at the bar and everything on the menu looked delicious. Started off with their cafe de olla. The coffee was so aromatic. I was told it was infused with cinnamon and other spices. For entrees, I got the grilled Mexican steak with a choice of corn or flour tortillas and the deluxe pancakes with sausages. The food was delicious and the portions were huge.

I didn't even get to try the food because we were given inaccurate wait times. We were told it would be a 30 minute wait, and while we were waiting I decided to look at the menu more and photos. I saw reviews about La Parada having the best chilaquiles and wanted to try them, but they looked like what you get from La Carreta which are just lacking flavorful sauce, and a small portion. It also looked like it wasn't the most authentic food. So it didn't seem worth the wait and we left.

Found this place on Yelp, and this is why I love yelp! This place was great and absolutely cute inside, plus, the service was nice. We did wait a little long.... However, it was worth my tasty meal. We ordered country fried chicken, huevos ranchero, and menudo. Period, the menudo was great. Actually, everything was flavorful and worth the dollar. Will definitely come again. See pictures, then see, then buy.

La Parada Huevos Rancheros

A wonderful find, La Parada is a great choice for quality Mexican foods. We went there for breakfast, with most opting for tradtional Mexican dishes, while my wift opted for the Belgian Waffle. Our friend chose the "La Parada Huevos Rancheros". An interesting selection of two homemade pork sausage chorizo cheese enchiladas, topped with eggs, cilantro, tomatoes, jack & cheddar cheese, avocado, sour cream, and Mama's Salsa Ranchera. I've never seen Huevos Rancheros prepared quite like this but my friend said it was delicioso! Another friend ordered the Beef Machaca. A more tradional dish with scrambled eggs mixed with seasoned shredded beef, sauteed onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and jalapeno peppers. I ordered "Chorizo and Eggs". The Chorizo was flavorful and not oily at all. When mixed with the eggs, it offered a wonderful blend of tastes and textures. It was quite good. As mentioned, my wife ordered the Belgian Waffle. A very traditional preparation, the waffle was good but not amazing. The sausauge was quite good though. Overall, a solid option for breakfast. I am eager to return for lunch. La Parada is a Breakfast/Lunch place, closing at 2pm dailly.

Queda birria plate (Tacos) Pancake Plater

I'm going to kick things off with 100/10 food the Birria plate was great the pancakes were delicious I love the Freshly squeezed orange juice the horchata was a bit water down but still that cinnamony flavor we all love The service was great our waiter should get a raise she was very nice the food came out quick like under 10 minutes The Ambience was like I was in Mexico City music blasting when I walked in it looked like Mexico but with a hint of modern style the bulls on the walls gave me a quick laugh Overall 10/10 spot if you are in the area stop here it won't disappoint

Chilaquiles with verde sauce and La Parada Huevos Rancheros...FANTASTIC

I can't tell everyone how FANTASTIC this restaurant is and do it justice. I had the Mexican Coffee and the La Parada Huevos Rancheros. This is not the traditional way people usually make it. They actually make it with two chorizo and cheese enchiladas with eggs on top along with pickled onions, arugula, and avocado. The chorizo is made in house and the dish is served with the most amazing beans (tastes like your mom used to make) and fried potatoes. When I was finished, I had to throw my hands up in the air....soooo freaking good!! My husband had the Chilaquiles with the verde sauce with scrambled eggs (I suggested he get them with over easy eggs). He said it was a little spicier than he expected but it was amazing. He did admit he should have had it with over easy eggs...told you so!! The waiter was very friendly and our food came out really fast. What we liked the most about this place was that everything is made in house (tortillas, beans, chorizo). Go check it out, you won't be sorry!!

We were greeted by hostess Julie, who was warm and welcoming right from the start. I really appreciated that the staff acknowledged the birthday without us even having to mention it. Our server, Mary Jane, already knew, which was a great touch (likely from reservation notes which, honestly, was a refreshing change from a past experience at Peppermill). Mary Jane was excellent--attentive, consistent, and on top of everything. Even with how busy it was, she made us feel like we were her only table. Chloe, our food runner, kept things running smoothly. The atmosphere was lively with trivia night and team competitions going on, which added a fun vibe. They also have outdoor seating available. Food was good overall. The birthday boy loved the Crabfest! Tried their sampler platter and Lobster fries both were just okay. Our shrimp came out overcooked at first, but they quickly corrected it and the second round was great. The seafood pasta, fish & chips, shrimp, and poke tacos were all decent, but nothing particularly memorable. Service is definitely 5 stars. Food is closer to 4 stars--but still a solid experience overall.

Upon arrival, we were sat immediately and greeted by our waitress. The restaurant was clean, bright, and had very few occupied tables. The service from our waitress was non-existent during our stay even though there were very few tables requiring service. She was at our table to greet us and take our drinks, and to take our order but that was it. We had to leave our table to find her to get drink refills and to ask for our check. To drink, we ordered the Churchill Sour and the Blueberry Mojito with a shot of the house rum (it's a virgin on the menu). The Churchill Sour was well balanced and complex. The Blueberry Mojito with a shot of house rum was anything but good. It tasted like straight soda water...even after being mixed at the table. I did order a 2nd one later on and did 2 shots of the house rum and specifically asked for the bartender to mix it and it did taste slightly better. I was shocked to see that on the bill that EACH shot of house rum cost almost the exact same as the Churchill Sour! To start the meal we ordered the crispy calamari. Not only did this come out barely warm and chewy from being overcooked, but it also came to our table with our main courses (I specifically told her that this was our appetizer and we wanted it out first). For our main courses, we ordered the fish and chips, the warm lobster roll, and the lobster philly cheesesteak. The fish and chips were delicious. The fish was light, flaky, and flavorful. The lobster philly cheesesteak was a good surprise. I was on the fence about seafood with cheese, however they complemented each other nicely. The meat was seasoned to perfection and cooked to beautifully. The fries that came with the fish and added onto the philly were the HIGHLIGHT of the meal! They were crispy on the outside, warm and soft on the inside, and the seasoning was on point. The warm lobster roll was just ok. The lobster was ice cold (the butter it came with to dip it in was cold too) and slightly overcooked. The roll was also lacking all flavor and seasoning. Sadly, during our time at Chickie's & Pete's we were not the only table that had these or similar issues. We watched 2 tables walk out before ordering as their wait time for drinks and/or to be greeted was pushing 20 minutes after being seated, other tables actively searching for servers, and heard several complaints from nearby tables about food quality. Unfortunately, I think we may be taking a break from Chickie's and Pete's for a while when we visit GSR.

It was not busy since it was a Sunday so we sat down right away and then a waiter came over to give us water. Our waiter came by shortly after that to see if we wanted drinks or appetizers. I ordered a nice glass of chianti red wine from Italy and my friend ordered the spritz. We also ordered the French onion soup to share. Our drinks came out pretty quick along with bread and our soup. The drinks were great, the soup was one of the best French onion soups that i've ever had. The broth was delicious and not too salty but plenty of onion flavor, right amount of cheese and onions was in it, and it was plenty too eat. Our waiter came back to check on us and told us the specials. We ended up ordering the 24oz ribeye and the side of lobster mac n cheese. Our meal came out right on time after we finished our soup. The ribeye was cooked perfectly med rare, it was juicy, flavorful, and tender. One of the best steaks I've ever had. The lobster mac n cheese was cooked perfect, the noodles were tasty, al dente, plenty of lobster in it, and the flavor definitely was cheesy and lobsterish. The food was outstanding. The service was great as well even though it wasn't busy. I forgot our waiter name so I'm sorry. We were too full for dessert or we would have ordered some. It was such a beautiful day.... where can we eat outside?…read more I found "The Spot", its in the old Smee's location on the river. When we showed up, we asked if we could sit at a table outside, the guy was a little overwhelmed, he said "I can sit you in 10 mins". I said "can we have this table". OK, but....just know I'll be with you as soon as I get caught up, I'm totally fine with that I said. . He bought us a couple menus to look over. Then a table on the railing with shade opened up, I didn't care about the table was dirty with dishes, so we decided to move. I love to look at the river and watch the people go by. The server said, I'll be over soon! He was never so happy when Sierra showed up to help him out. He came over to our table I said "I hope you don't mind, I moved to be in the shade, I know I'm one of those pain in the ass customers". Then he started joking with me and it was the perfect ice breaker. My server and part owner's name is Casey! He is an awesome guy and such a hard worker to ensure his customers are taken care of. I love that. We had a couple beers, he has quite the selection of beers on tap, he supports the community breweries such as Lead Dog and Revisions. My husband had the breakfast burrito $13, it was huge with homemade tortilla chips with salad and guacamole. I had the fish and chips. You get three large pieces of fish, fries and yummy coleslaw. I love how they put the tater sauce and ketchups in personal cups for you that shows class. My fish was absolutely delicious better than the old Smees and especially the new location. After some searching The Spot is what caught our eye. Located by the river and where Reef and Smees used to be. including what you ordered or used, Since this was a new spot we decided to just order and share a ton of appetizers. This included: cup of cream of mushroom soup, pretzel bites, spinach dip, poutine fries and Brussel sprouts. 2/5 were a huge hit where the orders we would not try again. Cup of mushroom soup: cup size is a good appetizer portion, good mushroom taste but WAY too salty. Would not order again. Pretzel bites: SUPER YUM! Slightly crunchy at the corners and fluffy inside. Perfectly bite sized and great dips (cheese and mustard). Loved these and would absolutely order again. Spinach dip: not a fan. The one thing I did like about this is that the dip portion was extremely generous, but I was not a fan of the taste. For me it was like slightly watered down sour cream. You have the options of chips or baguette. We went with baguette and for the first time in my life, the dipping vessels were very scant compared to the amount of dip so if anyone orders this, I would recommend it with chips. Would not order again. Poutine fries: YUM! Definitely a shareable portion. Thin fries topped with yummy breaded cheese curds and piping hot gravy this was my favorite thing. The gravy was perfectly salted and I loved the breaded cheese curds. I do wish the fries were thicker, like a wedge cut but honestly these were insanely good. Will order again. Brussel sprouts: made with bacon which is always a must for that yummy flavor. Also drizzled with balsamic which is a win in my book. These were very tender and delicious but very oily or greasy which kind of gave me the ick but flavor was definitely there. Will not order again. We were seated immediately upon arriving and waters were brought out. Orders were taken quickly and food came out quick! However after the food came out, no one came to check on us, see how we were doing or clear plates. We were always having to flag someone down for refills, napkins and the check. It wasn't busy. The inside is clean, has a large bar area and outdoor seating. Also lots of TVs. I don't think I'll be returning, but I do recommend the poutine fries and pretzel bites. Things to note: Have to walk up stairs to enter. No private parking lot, have to street park and a lot of parking is metered. 9:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday - Saturday & free on Sundays / holidays.
