Full disclosure, this is a review of some pickup/takeout.
That being said, this is some of the best takeout I've had in Reno. Not Mexican take out... The best, period. From any place.
Found myself in the area when I got the text from my wife "I want chicken tacos!" and La Posado Real was the Mexican restaurant near me. So a complete fluke got me in the door, but I'm glad it did!
I spoke to the owners brother, who was the previous owner, he said. I told him it was my first time coming in. First thing he said in reply was thanking me for stopping by, next thing he said was "the foods really good, you're gonna love it!"
Spoiler alert. I did.
I got the chicken taco combo plate which comes with two tacos with rice and beans, Two chicken tacos ala cart, and a carnitas burrito. The burritos come smothered with sauce, cheese, and guac on the side.
BTW - they also included chips and a few different salsas. I didn't order it, it was complementary!
The Burrito was stuffed full of moist carnitas that tasted great, and was well trimmed. Had a few bits with some dark char which set it off nicely. I bit into NO loose chunks of fat or cartilage, a pet peeve of mine with carnitas. They really paid attention to the meat, you could tell. The green sauce on top and around it tasted great, nice and tart, and it was topped with plenty of cheese. My one knock is it wasn't melted all the way, but that's alright. Everything else on it was perfect, including the guac.
I didn't try the tacos, those were my wife's. But after she ate I asked her some questions , she said 1) the chicken was a little dry, but tasted really good, and was very well seasoned. 2) the shell was crispy without being greasy. 3) the red sauce they gave us paired really well with it, and was tasty. 4) It had a good amount of veggies on it. The only alteration was she sprinkled a little salt on it. That's it. It should be noted my wife normally DOES NOT like red sauce, on anything. Tonight she loved it, and put it on all the tacos.
Chips and salsa? Pretty good actually. All the salsas we got were blended/smooth, but I didn't mind. Really liked the green. I asked for some of the hottest they had, habenero. It was pretty good, pretty HOT, and needed just a little salt for my taste.
Honestly I'm nit-pickin, because the food here was really good. I will say, it was a little pricey considering all we ordered was four chicken tacos and a single burrito. Total was $44 (with a small tip added for me picking it up) BUT! I'm not mad at it, because the quality and care put into the food is literally palatable.
You gotta understand, since coming to Reno I've had a heck of a time finding a Mexican place that not only satisfys, but doesn't break the bank, treat you like crap, screw up your order, or leave you feeling ripped off because of the poor quality.
La Posado Real gave us great food, nearly without flaw. The people there treated me very well, even offering me something to drink while I Waited. My wife was happy, and that made ME happy. The carnitas were GREAT.
Most importantly, I'm excited to go back and see how good everything else is.
