Food was good but not them prices ! The oysters were higher than in the menu just put tape on the menu with new prices . The bartender was our waiter for the night so took a little longer on getting served or bringing our food, and forget one of our orders came all late!
Everything was great and service was great, sadly there was no flan. The singer had a nice voice.
12.22.23: I wanted to try a molcajete as I never have before and recently saw one in a video online. After researching a few places I decided to try Mariscos El BarCo for my belated birthday dinner with a friend. As we walked in we immediately heard live music, which was unexpected and a total plus. There were 2 men playing a guitar and a keyboard. They sounded good and it made for a lively atmosphere. Although our server only spoke Spanish and me very little Spanish, we were still able to describe, show a picture, and easily order the molcajete I've been wanting to try. As for drinks, we both got the double Michelada and it was served in a huge tall mug and complimented our meal perfectly. The molcajete came out steaming hot. There were shrimps, cactus, chicken, steak, chorizo, and cheese, which all tasted really good and the chicken and steak were tender and not dried out! My only complaint was the shrimp with the prawn heads weren't cleaned very well, but the dish also included shrimp without the heads and they were clean with no vein. The molcajete broth was tasty and unique and not oily, so that's a plus! When we ran out of tortillas, they had no problem giving us more. Overall the service was good and despite the language barrier, our server was nice and friendly and answered our questions about the menu. Having live music with our meal was fun and made the ambience that much more enjoyable.
What a wonderful dining experience! I have always wanted to try out the local mariscos restaurants in Reno and Sparks and Mariscos El Barco caught my eye on my Yelp! app! And i am glad it did! Came here for a Sunday lunch with my son and ordered the Molcajetes Mar Y Tierra (for my son) and Camarones de Cora (for myself), Was craving something savory and spicy. Located on Greenbrae in Sparks, it has a ship like motif and when you hit the front door, you can smell the array of latinx spices. There was a three man band singing beautiful Mexican songs and the place was packed! My dish was bold and flavorful, I got a small size which included about 15 or more shrimp with tomatoes and cucumbers, and lime. My son's dish was sizzling and he said that the taste was authentic as he spent some time in Mexico last year. Mariscos are here to stay for me. I am glad to have gotten the opportunity to try this restaurant out and I will be back again!
I love the sea food in this place. As u all can tell it's not easy to find a place where the serve the full fish. So that's the spot if u looking for that. The grilled red snapper is 100% perfect. And their calamari is amazing. They only thing I would not order again is the oysters. But everything else was great. The stuff are nice but sometimes it's hard to communicate because not all of them Speak English. But honestly it's not. Big deal because u will still love what u get. Very recommended
Alright I get the hype! Thanks to Yelp I found this gem with fresh seafood and unique combinations. I had classics like seafood with steak and sizzling beef fajitas, but I also had the maripiña which just blew my mind. Basically it's seafood inside a pineapple shell, so it was juicy, sweet and savory. Their menu is expansive so they have other unique options if pineapples aren't your thing. A word of advice: this place does get very busy and seems understaffed, so you will wait a while for a table. But the service was just as excellent as the food, so the wait was worth it.

Service was friendly, efficient and on point...everything we ordered came in a timely fashion and in the correct order, with ample time to eat each course before the next one showed up. A fabulous 3 piece band was playing a wide variety of music from classic Mexican to assorted pop tunes to entertain us...just the perfect volume and outstanding musicians. The extensive menu is a little vague...no explanations of the dishes...just lots of pictures. No problem...if it looks good in the picture, then order it was our approach. I started off with one of my favorite Mexican beers...Victoria (in the bottle)...with the commemorative Dia De Los Muertos (Day Of The Dead) label left over from the holiday. ($5.50) My dining companion had a Margarita. ($8.80) Served in a classic Margarita glass with the blue frosted rim and a couple of lime wheels...my taste was excellent. Our first course: Ostiones Preparados (6 pieces-$17.95) Stuffed Oysters served in the shell. So many flavors, balanced beautifully with great textures. I have no idea what was in them (again, no explanations on the menu, just pictures), but I loved them. So fresh and a squeeze of fresh lime added a perfect citrus pop! 2nd course: (Seafood) Empanadas (small-2 pieces-$7) Perfectly cooked...crispy shell stuffed with delicious seafood, 2 dipping sauces included. Another flavorful dish! 3rd course: Molcajetes Mar Y Tierra ($36.21) Translation? Sea and Land. Served in a hot Molcajete bowl, plenty of food for the 2 of us! Overflowing with fresh seafood, including perfectly cooked head on shrimp, with Nopales, veggies and an assortment of meats. Again, a squeeze of fresh lime added a perfect citrus pop to the flavors! Dessert: Flan ($5.99) Not your regular way to serve flan...this was delicious, creamy, with a healthy dollop of whipped cream, 2 cherries and a dash of cherry sauce on top! Every bite of our meal was tasty, prepared well and the atmosphere made it a fun experience! I'll be back...you should check it out to see what YOU think...
Where else in Reno/sparks can you find a real cultural experience and eat inside a pirate ship? Mariscos El Barco is that place. This place is authentic--from the servers who speak to you in Spanish to the Mexican band to the legit food--this place is the real deal. For drinks, we got dos michelada. The tajin rim was more like a salt rim with a little tajin rim but that's alright. The michelada itself was a little too peppery for my liking. For food I got the molcajete cora, which was my first time having a molcajete. The spicy sauce was very good and the shrimp was super flavorful. I wasn't a huge fan of the mussels and clams--they seemed a bit too chewy--but otherwise it was very good. Although the band is a nice touch, it felt a bit too loud for such a small space. All in all, I enjoyed El Barco and would definitely go back!

Authentic, fresh, and great service! This place has everything seafood lovers can imagine. The menu is fairly priced for the serving sizes. The inside ambiance feels like the inside of a ship with lots of great character, wonderful music, and it fills up very quick. A locals favorite for sure. Excellent for date night or celebrations too.
Meals shared with family always seem to taste better. Family dinner here at Mariscos El Barco was no exception. We started with shrimp empanadas for the table. They were good, but they were way too greasy for my liking. Shrimp cocktails all around! They were a decent serving, but I was disappointed that they were bland. We used the juices from our shrimp entrées to flavor our shrimp cocktails. The shrimp entrée was the best! The sauce had the perfect amount of spice; the flavors were out of this world! My mouth is watering, reliving the flavors as I write this review. It had been several years since the last time I sat in this dining room, but I will always prefer this location over their Sparks location. We had a great server who was the perfect amount of attentive but not overbearing when he checked on us. We overdosed on mariscos, and I know I will be back for this shrimp entrée! If you're ever here, order the Langostinos entrée.
Something about this place makes it perfect for a chilly winter night. So warm and welcoming! Everyone was just wonderful, and so was the food. Easily the best fish and chips in town. 6 pieces of fish with a salad and so many fries! The empanadas were absolutely delicious with the most addictive sauce and the pozole was fabulous! Huge portions, we easily could have split and brought home a good amount. Good price for portions for sure. A great place for a date night too.
Hadn't been here in a couple years so came back, not a great experience. We waited at the door and were ignored until we asked if we could get a table. Then we were about to order and they informed us the menu prices weren't correct and everything had increased. The food was meh, not as good as last time. Also waited 15+ for our first dish and still hadn't gotten our drinks (one was literally a jarritos). Sadly not impressed this time, they were also all out of salsa. read more
So my wife and I just finished working out and we're looking to have dinner. We're actually heading to one of the casinos to eat at an oyster bar, Nguyen, my wife pointed to this place as we're driving by... I thought why not.. we have not eaten at this restaurant (well technically when it was called El Marisco) years ago. We went in, and it was not too busy. We were seated immediately. I ordered my standard Cadillac. Margarita and my wife went with something that had coconut and blue Curaçao. The margarita actually taste pretty good and my wife enjoyed her drink. What we ordered: The whole octopus A mixed seafood tostada One fish taco I was very surprised at how delicious the octopus was. It was a little on the oily side, but it came to the table sizzling. It was tender and delicious. My wife really liked the fish taco. And my son enjoyed the tostada. One thing that was interesting, the salsa. The chips and salsa they gave you, the salsa was extremely spicy. I can take some heat, but I can only have a little bit of it. The fish taco came with some salsa Verde, and it was even spicier than the red.... Not sure if it was just a batch thing or if they just serve extremely spicy salsa. This place is a little bit on the expensive side, but we really did enjoy the food in the service. We will definitely return to try some of the other seafood! read more

New discovery, many things hit high marks. Have been following this place for a long time, finally got a late lunch to try it out. Mariscos El BarCo in Sparks. 1. Chips and salsa are 10/10. Looking good! 2. The Empanadas are savory, stuffed with shrimp and cheese. Chimichurri or a chipotle type dipping sauces, excellent! 3. The Ceviche Tostada is mindblowing. I got the shrimp and seafood mix. It was beyond perfection! This is filed under things you need in life. 4. The Maripina was an amazing flavor journey. Sweet and savory, complex flavors that all worked together. The lime rice on the side was also perfect alone, but I ended up dipping into thw Maripina juice. The dish has shrimp, pineapple, cheese, crab, octopus all server in a cooked half of pineapple. Flavortown. Looks like I will be back for more, the fish tacos and shrimp tacos for the next trip. We were excited to try this place. The service was fast which was nice, but when we got the check it was WAY more than we were expecting based on the menu prices and what we ordered. We ordered two kids meals for our kids who have light appetites. They were supposed to be $8.99. We were charged 15.50 each. My husbands tacos were on the menu as $4 each, he ordered 4. We were charged $28 for the four tacos! When we asked about the bill thinking that we were over charged in error we were told there's a sign on the door saying prices have changed. However this price change is not reflected on the menu! What?! Update your menu or at least tell the customer about that instead of relying on a little sign on the door saying prices have changed, leaving people to assume the prices on the menu are the updated prices! We asked about the kids menu items we ordered and were told they got the adult portions. That's fine, but since an adult portion of what they ordered was NOT listed on the menu we should been notified that they would be providing and adult portion when we ordered. The food was okay, but we are dissatisfied with this experience and have never been to a restaurant that lacks transparency as badly as this one does ! read more
Sea food and more Sea food. El Barco has every sea food dish you can think of literally. Loved the entrance how it has a boat. Staff is very attentive and friendly. Prices are reasonable considering how much food is served, enough to feed a small army I say. We got the We got the Michelada to which I saw and was in awww !!! Because it looked like a beer and a dinner with all the bells and whistles. For food we tried their fish. I am not too big on fish but this one was delicious and the hubby and friends got the molcajete that we share because there was so much sea food going on in that Molcajete bowl. I do have to say that if one does not like sea food then that's not the place for you because every dish consist of fish, shrimp, oysters, calamari and you make it they have it. It is a little out as there is live music and when musicians were on break there was still music going on coming from the kitchen I believe, not a dull moment in this place, Who would of know this gem was in Sparks Nevada. Stopped in for dinner on a Friday night, before the music and fun started but still so good! The seafood is so fresh, and the most authentic hispanic experience I've for sure had in this part of the state. The ceviche was so tasteful and the portions to cost was amazing. I felt super welcomed here seeing the staff speaking Spanish and English! The shrimp tacos were truly delicious, and maybe the star of the show? Honestly everything we tried was delicious. read more

Never disappoints. Food is fresh and delicious. Try the Camarones al Kora, it's the delicious Mexican style version of the Boiling Crab Shrimp. Try the Coctel de Camaron, it's the fresh shrimp that wins every time. Don't leave without trying the mangoneada, the spicy sweet mango tequila slushee treat. read more
Came here with high hopes of getting a good Mexican shrimp cocktail. All the yelp reviews seemed to be pointing to the right place. I really wanted to love it here. This review is solely based on this dish. I ordered a shrimp cocktail and asked the waitress if they had any fresh horseradish which they did not. I'm not sure if she knew what that was. She said she's go find out and she returned with some hot sauce. Still cool that she tried. I just like to have some fresh horseradish if I'm ordering a shrimp cocktail. Mind you, I've had a few of these Mexican shrimp cocktails in Texas near the border. I was expecting some huge shrimp with red onions, cucumber, chopped tomato, and lots of avocado. I received what is on my photo. Lots of shrimp yes, with only two tiny pieces of avocado floating on top of a watery shrimp cocktail. At almost 16 dollars for this shrimp cocktail I was expecting more boom! I had to order extra avocado to balance the dish a little bit. After this and a fountain drink, I walked out of Marisco's El Bar about 25.00 dollars out and wishing I had ordered something else off their menu instead of this shrimp cocktail. read more

This place was recommended by someone at GSR that was also visiting Reno. I must says service, atmosphere and food was great. Music was provided for entertainment. It was hard to decide what we wanted from the menu. Everything looks so good. We ordered the medium size shrimp platter and the red snapper with salad and tortillas. Everything was fresh and delicious. Serving was enough for 2-3 people. So much food but we did kill it! I guess we were hungry. We will definitely be back to try other items on the menu. This visit could not have gone any worse. The music was WAY too loud. The service was horrible and the food, not much better. We walked in and were seated. The people next to us were watching a video on their phone at full volume. When did this become okay? We order water and drinks. And waited and waited and waited. Do you want to order your meal... actually, I was thinking about getting our water and drinks first and then maybe reading the menu. We order appetizers - sorry we don't have any oysters tonight. MKay - how about this instead. Fine. 15 minutes later others walk in and order the oysters - oddly enough they have them then. What? I ordered the Grilled Red Snapper. The "chef" deep fried it by accident and it would take a long time to make another one - so you should eat this one. FINE.. The food was seriously tasteless. It looked good - but it was blah. We asked for more water - 3 ways... asking in English, Pointing at our water glass showing how empty it was and then the dreadful, "Más agua por favor" (dreadful because it's not my native tongue and I don't like to butcher others' languages) -- and we STILL didn't get any agua. We had a pitcher of margs and I am pretty sure there wasn't any tequila in it. WHAT? Bad night? Could be. But I didn't see enough redeeming qualities to even try it again. Nope. read more

Oh wow!! A ship restaurant! Okay to start it's my first time on this place, so excited to come in and see what's this all about. We ordered a 15 pcs. shrimp $14.99 I think and a whole fish platter W/rice and little salad on the side $17.99 red snapper (fried) . Then the only made me so furious about this place is a CUP order of Rice which is $5.00 per cup!WOW! I was like wow! A cup of rice???I ask the waitress WHY it's CoST that much. This rice is So freaking plain .. it's NOT even LONG GRAIN! It's So ridiculous LOL! Hey sorry but I can't recommend to any of my families or friends to come in this place! It's so embarrassing to recommend a place that it's not even all that, and they charge so much of a cup of rice! The most I payed for a rice per CUP is $2.50 or to the extent $3.00 bucks the max. This place won't last!!! At the end of the Day I end up paying $69.00 dollars or something like that.. GEEZ! Good luck el barko! read more
We drove down to sparks just to try this place out. First off, there's no way you'd be able to miss this restaurant because it's a shaped like a ship and it's bright yellow! Inside definitely feels like the inside of a ship. Our sever brought chips and salsa and after looking through the menu, we decided to order Ostiones Rockefeller a'las Brasas or Grilled Rockefeller Oysters for an appetizer // Filete de Salmon or Grilled Salmon with rice, salad and garlic bread // and Camarones Adovados a las Brasas or Grilled Shrimp marinated in red sauce (mild) with rice and salad. My friend also ordered a Margarita on the rocks. The chips and salsa were very refreshing. The grilled Rockefeller oysters were small but they tasted good. My grilled salmon was delicious. I loved it especially because they left the skin on, so it was crispy and packed a lot of flavor in it. The grilled shrimp however was my favorite. The shrimp were plump and came on a sizzling skillet with grilled bell peppers and onions. Each bite packed a punch but not too overpowering at all. There's other entrees I wanted to try so you can count on us returning to try those out! read more
