    What amazingly fresh crudo!!
    Dusty B.

Ohhhhhhhh man! This place has got it going on. I love the interior. Cool art. We had some sea bass "ceviche". I would call it crudo style because it's not really the Mexican/South American style ceviche I'm used to back home. But, it is fresh, large and super delicious. I had the Carbonara and it was the best version I've tried. And, my girlfriend had an amazing tuna plate that was cooked rare with a side of Carmelites red onion and some cooked bitter greens. I will certainly return here. This was for lunch. Oh, the service was great too.

Checked out the restaurant based on reviews from the "Eat Rome" app from Elizabeth Minchilli. It was a casual atmosphere, friendly service, and really good food. We had the wrapped swordfish and eggplant for an appetizer and the salt crusted seabass which was delicious. The potatoes that were served with the fish was less than desirable but we had also ordered the spinach which turned out to be good.

The food, staff and atmosphere were all amazing! The menus are in multiple languages and the staff speaks English. The swordfish / eggplant app was my favorite. I also enjoyed the bass ravioli. I went by myself and met a lovely couple next to mine and had a great time. They enjoyed their tuna tartare- it had a horseradish sauce and looked amazing. a bit pricey but it was my first dinner in Italy and they made it great!

Ok, it was hot and I sweated through my whole meal, but it was simply one of the most wonderful dining experiences in Rome. I began with the seared scallops in black squid ink- perfectly prepared with strong notes of lemon and the rich salt of the ink. Accompanied by the Sardinian white wine, Vermintino (a steal at 18€!), the second plate was spaghetti with sardines, breadcrumbs, raisins and piñolis, and an entirely distinct dish of roasted Amberjack with sage and a generous flavoring of raw ginger. Suffice to say, this selection sent me to heaven! My neighbors were delightfully engaging- a plus for a solo diner, and we established what might very well become a life long friendship- the kind that unfolds so providentially when we meet strangers who are kindred spirits. I couldn't resist celebrating with a delicate portion of their cassata Siciliana. A perfect night!

My husband and I had lunch here prior to heading to meet our Vatican Tour. Conveniently for us, this restaurant is located in Trastevere where we were renting an apartment! I read very positive reviews on Trip Advisor and decided to give it a try. I was sold when I read about their sea bass cerviche which of course we had to try and as promised, was delicious. I am a sucker for ravioli...so I ordered their seafood ravioli in a sage, butter sauce. WOW! Fresh pillows of wonderfulness. My glass of house white was delicious, too (I had to order a 2nd glass!). We were the first customers that day...12:30pm is early for the Romans to eat lunch but by 1pm the restaurant was filling up at a good pace. I sensed a lot of locals...business lunching. La Gensola is a high end restaurant. Lovely cuisine, cool decor and friendly and efficient service. I definitely recommend it!

    Sword Fish Caponata

One of the best fish restaurants in Rome. The sea bass ceviche was heavenly as was the sword fish caponata. The mains were just good, not amazing. Only downside is the price. We paid 60€ per person for a starter and a fish, plus a glass of wine. This is Michelin territory pricing and La Gensola is not quite there yet.

Pasta is delicious, their tomato sauce is the best I ever had. Try the salt crusted sea bass ...it is amazing. The whole experience was wonderful.

Call before you go on vacation to make reservations, Best fish place in the Trastevere!

The boiled octopus was light and perfectly cooked.
    Liane H.

Friendly atmosphere, wonderful food and wine, what more can you ask for? We started with the boiled octopus which was prepared simply, but was clearly of great quality. We then shared the steak and roasted potatoes dish, cooked medium, which was SO good! Paired with the house red wine, it was the perfect meal and an experience I would suggest to anyone visiting Roma.

Declared the best pasta of the whole trip. Shrimp with guanciale

We asked for a table outside and the kind lady asked us if we had a reservation (oh oh). We didn't. No problem as we took our pick of one of the tables. Two levels inside with a small Bar in the back. Before we knew it, outside seating was full and inside also filled up-a good sign. We ordered a liter (ended up being too much but when in Rome...) of their house Red and enjoyed it. For starters, we ordered the Fried Artichokes (thick breading and will order the Roman style with garlic/vinegar next time), fried Zucchini and Suppli-Cacio Pepe. The Suppli was delicious and was enjoyed the most. For main, it was Pasta Carbonara (Guanciale )-Proper carbonara and the streak of not having a bad version of this dish in Rome continues. The sliced Beef with mushrooms was also delicious -super tender and thin pieces of beef (medium rare as requested). We asked if the Tiramisu was house-made. Our server answered, "yes, and I am the one who makes it." How could we not order after that?! One of the best Tiramisus we've had. Perfect balance of coffee dipped lady fingers with cream-delicious! Our Server was kind, attentive and full of hustle -she was covering a lot of ground. Don't miss this Gem if you are in the Prati district.

Already depressed knowing we were returning to the cold and fearful Minneapolis, we spent the day packing and wandering Prati. After drowning our sorrows at a few cocktail emporiums in the early evening, we walked into Su e Giu without a reservation close to 9:30. The two guys working the front showed us to a table, and we proceeded to have a perfect last night meal. Our appetizers and pastas were great, service was friendly, and I spent time reflecting on how wonderful Rome is, rather than thinking about our return to the fractured States. Su e Giu Cucina Romana is the perfect Roman restaurant to feel La Dolce Vita. It is a sweet life indeed.

Our family of four was waiting to be seated when a local family of four arrived after us and was seated immediately. We were eventually seated right next to them, and they were served bread while we were ignored and received none. We ordered wine that was never brought to the table, and at one point a waiter who was not even serving us removed our wine glasses after we had already ordered the wine. The service throughout the meal was chaotic and rude. The artichoke dish was extremely bland -- no seasoning and no flavor at all. Most of the food was greasy and disappointing. To make matters worse, we were seated directly next to the kitchen where the cooks and waiters were loudly arguing throughout our meal. We understand that service in Italy is often slower and more relaxed, and we have enjoyed wonderful hospitality everywhere else during our trip. However, this was by far the worst service we experienced anywhere in Italy. We were even asked if we wanted the bill before we had finished eating, while the local family next to us remained seated comfortably long after finishing their meal. We left feeling unwelcome and discriminated against. Unfortunately, this restaurant seemed interested only in serving locals well. If you are not Italian, do yourself a favor and dine elsewhere. We absolutely do not recommend this place.

We split a salad that was big enough for a meal, my wife had the bolognese, and I had the steak. It was super rare, but as I cut into it, I would lay it onto the stone to allow it to cook a bit more. I like it on the lean side of medium rare and my wife prefers a bit more. This was perfect for us to both enjoy it the way we like. Her pasta was excellent as well and we enjoyed sharing the meal. A bottle of wine topped off a great dinner. The weather was rainy so we opted to sit inside and it was warm and welcoming. Our waiter was helpful with our choices and we enjoyed his observations. The only thing I can say that was off, was the older woman who was paying her bill before me was pressured into leaving a tip ( service charge, is what he said). I was prepared for that but was not asked to tip. Great meal, we enjoyed it immensely, but the service charge that was scammed out of the 70+ year old lady in front of me kind of left a sour taste in my mouth. I was going to tip a few euros because we enjoyed ourselves so much, but decided not to because of the way it was presented to the party before us.

He was upset with the host because he had burned the plastic on the outdoor tent as he had placed a heater too close to it. To be honest, he seemed like a bit of a jerk, but his food was freaking delicious.

It is a large restaurant and was full of lively patrons. The indoor decor is warm and inviting. The first thing I noticed was the camaraderie between the waitstaff - everyone seemed to get along, helped each other and were having fun. We had 2 wonderful Filipino waiters. One had the same Ray-Ban meta glasses as my husband, which they bonded over. We ordered the bombolotti carbonara and lasagna-both delicious. For the mains, grilled Turbot (which was perfectly de-boned tableside) and meatballs w/ mashed potatoes. While the waiter was de-boning the fish, the song "Take Me Home, Country Roads" by John Denver came on overhead. My husband and I both looked at each other and smiled, thinking WTH?! I asked the waiter, "did we tell you we were from West Virginia?" and he smiled and shook his head. But later confessed, he played it for us (I guess we did tell him, lol). It made our night. Rome was the last city in our multi-city 12 day tour and we loved every minute but we were looking forward to going home. Hearing "Country Roads" at a popular and busy restaurant a block away from the Spanish Steps blew our minds. A young couple sat next to us for a quick snack, I asked her what she ordered (it looked delicious) and she said "Im from a different part of Italy but come here just for their artichokes". A few minutes later, I saw a plate full of artichokes pass by, being brought to a table outside. They made my mouth water. Al 34 was one of our favorite restaurants in Italy -- wonderful food (extensive menu), very lively with a mixed crowd (lots of Asians, English speakers and native Italians). It is a fun place to go and the wait staff is one of the reasons I will be coming back. I cant wait to try their artichokes! If you see the word, carciofo (artichoke), order it!
