After a disappointing tourist only type dinner nearby. Which our taxi driver passionately recommended us to go. That it was a local only place with good food. We explored the area more and found the highest rated restaurant in that area with 80k reviews! I bothered a couple eating there and they were not impressed with their dinner also. Then where do we get good authentic Italian food?? In our frustration I started asking any locals I can find. This young lady spoke enough English to let us know. She even had to call her friend for the location and name. It was not busy. The staff is older and looks like part of the good fellas cast. The decor looks like it too. Haha what an adventure. Italian restaurant in the Trastevere neighborhood of Rome. I think this place has been in business for decades. Food was great! Servers were very professional. Prices for food and house wine were very reasonable. I loved their specialty dish, "rigatoni democratica" which has a sauce of ground sausage (I think?). The grilled lamb was delicious, and a nice break from pasta. I also loved the veggie soup and the pistachio cake (but, by the way, all of their desserts look like they are really good, so I wouldn't skip this part of your meal here if you are a dessert fan! They have both indoor and outdoor seating, and were open quite late. During our 5 weeks in Italy, this was the only place we ate dinner at twice! If I lived nearby, I would eat there all the time. I would give this 10 stars if I could. Around the corner from our rental, our host recommended. Unassuming, classic, perfect! We both had soup; I had pastina in brodo and husband had vegetable. I thought my Nonna was in the back, cooking it up! Warming, delicious comforting. He had the chicken with peppers, tender and flavorful. I had the perfection that is spaghetti vongole. So many fresh, tender clams, al dente pasta with garlic and a bit of chili, incredible! Also a mixed salad and artichoke Roman style. Reasonable house wine and large format beer. One of my favorite places in Trastevere. You can tell the food is authentic when they only really speak Italian. The decor was very traditional. The food was great! Our server was great! Although he scolded my husband for wanting to put hot sauce and lemon on his seafood pasta but obviously we are doing it wrong in the US. Look, I get it. You've been in Italy for a bit, and you've just about maxed out on your pasta intake for the time being. But, for the LOVE OF GOD, ORDER THE RIGATONI DEMOCRATICI at this place. This restaurant is very humble looking from the outside, and during the day it is marked with a lot of graffiti. Well, just as graffiti is an Italian word, this place is authentic Italian through and through, and clearly where the locals go. Our elder waiter spoke not a word of English to us, though he understood things fine for our order. We did order a variety of dishes, and everything we ordered here was objectively great, but the clear and memorable highlight was their #1 specialty dish called the Rigatoni Democratici. I could post a picture of this dish, but similar to the restaurant itself, the outside visual does not convey the magic of the dish. And, it is magical. Is it the texture that makes it great? The savory meat bits? A Proprietary blend of cheeses? Fairy dust? None can say, but please make sure at least 1 person at your table orders this dish (and shares a bite). We dined at many restaurants in Rome and Florence, and had some memorable meals, but our party agrees on one certain thing: This dish is the all out entree winner. Introduced to this restaurant by a local. The place is authentic Roman casual dining. We hade a wonderful meal with wine and liqueurs with first and second courses and dessert. All for less than 80€ for two. I had the much applauded rigatoni democratic and it was excellent. I don't usually like white pasta sauce but this parmigiana sauce with crunchy bits was great. Mostly locals were dining here, so definitely make a stop. We tried the seafood, clam, and shrimp pastas, and also the seafood risotto. The risotto was alright, but the pastas were really great. If you're looking for something creamy but not super heavy, get the shrimp pasta! All other ones weren't super sauce heavy, but albeit delicious. Portions are huge, but don't worry, you'll finish it! I am so sad that the only truly GREAT meal I had in Italy wasn't until my last day. If we had discovered this place sooner, we would have returned multiple times throughout our stay in Rome. After hearing rave reviews about how mind-blowing the food is in Italy, just about every place we dined at throughout our stay in Rome and Florence felt us feeling a bit let down but Hostaria Capo De Fero flipped the script on us. This place is tucked away from the main touristy areas of Rome and not very popular among tourists, so communicating with the staff will be a bit of a challenge for non-Italian speakers. However, this was a non-issue for me as the crema pasta with shrimp was hands down the best pasta dish I have ever had in my lifetime. It was a pink sauce that hit the perfect balance of the heaviness of an alfredo and the tomato flavors of marinara. I wish I remembered the dish's actual name but it was so incredible. I honest to god could have eaten another plate. Please do yourself a favor and eat here. read more

Food here is good but something is off about this place. I don't know if it's either the rude waitress or the pushy waiter. I understand there's a lot of popular restaurants in the area but during a busy time on a Saturday night it's just weird for about five tables out of 20 to be full. The shrimp plate was yummy but you can tell the shrimp isn't fresh since he peel was hard to get off. Other than that the mussel and clams dish was fabulous and so was the mixed seafood plate. I'm so glad I found this restaurant amidst all the tourist traps that line the streets of Italy! I had one of the best pasta meals of my trip here. I ordered the seafood fettuccine, and my sister had the shrimp fettuccine that came with a delicious, creamy pink sauce. The pastas were cooked perfectly and the sauces they came with were so good. My only critique would be that the shrimp in my dish were small and overcooked. We also ordered the tripe, which had good flavor but I just couldn't deal with the texture (completely due to personal preference). Flavour sensation! Our first dinner in Italy had to be a takeout meal because my 2 year old son fell asleep a little earlier than expected. We found this place via yelp and it was only 200m from our Airbnb apartment. This was the most amazing dinner we have ever had complete with a perfect wine recommendation. We've eaten here twice this year. Teaching in Rome for a semester, and now living about a 10 minute walk from them. Last night we were here and it was full of Italians - we were the only foreigners in sight. This was a good sign. We asked the waiter to recommend appetizers, and he obliged with a huge selection of tasty cheeses, meats and roasted veggies, along with my favorite - Carciofi alla Romana (Artichokes cooked the Roman way). I then ordered the Rigatoni Democratici (Democratic Rigatoni) - which were sublime. Simply sublime. My husband had a nice steak, rare, and my son ate a salad and roasted langostini.
