Once again an awesome experience. Came here on our last trip to Rome two years ago and it was equally delicious. We received a very warm welcome upon arrival and quickly seated after I took a long look at the fresh seafood on display to a great table for two. Before we arrived we knew two things that we were going to definitely order - the Grilled Scampi and the Carciofo fritti. This visit we added the Carciofo Ravioli. The Grilled Scampi were totally outstanding. Could have eaten a couple more orders. Perfectly grilled with a bit of a nice char taste. The Carciofo Fritti was top notch...could have been bigger but not really a complaint. We were blown away by the addition of the Carciofo ravioli. They were awesome. They were so good and very filling. The sauce was a perfect accompaniment. Our waiter was great. We ordered a glass of wine and a Coca Cola. He called Georgia's Wine not knowing we were from Atlanta. An instant bond. Atmosphere is very nice in a cave that was an old theater. The history is worth the dining experience. If you want a nice dining experience don't miss this place. The historic building with carvings in the walls is the only reason to go here. The food is mediocre and very expensive for Rome. It's now a total tourist trap. We went to Costanza 7 years ago and it was great. The waiters had such pride in the building and food. Now it's just get them in and out. read more

Still amazing! We visited eight years ago. I wanted to take my husband back this time so he can enjoy the decor, food and ambience. We were not disappointed. We were immediately greeted at the door and warmly welcomed. We ordered a wonderful bottle of wine that was presented professionally. We also ordered appetizers for the table, a house, appetizer of grilled vegetables and buffalo mozzarella and a pate. For dinner entrées, we chose a house made gnocchi with a red sauce, veal dish and a truffle penne. Everything was wonderful top-notch. Some of the most authentic Italian food we had in Rome! After being in Italy for almost 10 days we wanted our last meal to be special so we did our help research and landed on this place. Rome has many restaurants so it was no easy task. The moment we stepped in the restaurant we knew we chose well. The setting was really neat inside with stone walls that seemed like a restored building. There was outdoor seating as well. The bread basket had a variety of crackers and bread so I knew were were in a nice place. We wanted wine but not a whole bottle so our waiter said "just get a bottle and drink want you want. We won't charge you for the whole thing if you don't eat it." We were surprised but sure enough we only paid 5 Euro for our wine! The seafood was definitely fresh and you could tell. We both got seafood pasta dishes and finished them both. We also got the fresh grilled prawns. It tasted like lobster! Hostaria Constanza sits inside the ancient amphitheater, but let's get to the food because it was quite literally the best pasta I had in all of Rome. Their cacio e pepe has an edible cheese bowl, making it all the more unique. My favorite though was the rigatoni Alla norcina with black truffles and sausage. My friends & I put a LOT of time into researching which restaurant we wanted to eat at during our one free night in Rome and based on the reviews and menu - this place won. If only we knew then, what we know now. The food itself was fairly good, though not what we had hoped or were led to believe. If you've ever eaten at Enzo's, this place will be a serious disappointment taste-wise. But what really ruined the night was a truly incompetent and unresponsive waiter. Our reservation was at 6:30 pm, right when the restaurant opened. We like to do that, because it's well before typical dinner rush for locals, which typically gives us the best service and best chance of not having to deal with the disappointment of menu items that had run out for the night. Having read the menu online, I was really looking forward to the artichoke ravioli. Surprisingly, when I ordered it, I was told it wasn't available! That really made me wonder how a restaurant can be OUT of a regular menu item right when it opens - on a Saturday night?! So instead, I ordered the roast suckling pig and potato dish with a side of artichokes in the Jewish style. The waiter then asked if it would be okay if he brought my artichoke side dish out as an appetizer? I agreed and didn't see how that could be a problem... UNTIL they were delivered as part of a large group appetizer dish that was brought to the entire table of seven and set down at the opposite end from where I was sitting. By the time the plate made it to me, there was only one bite left of the artichoke side dish (consisting of two fried artichokes) that I ordered, paid for and was really looking forward to eating. What the hell was the waiter thinking? My wife, meanwhile, ordered a first plate of pasta carbonara and the suckling pig as a second dish. Her carbonara came out at the same time as my dish. While she had a nice portion of pasta, my pig consisted of two very thin, small slices in a bland dark brown gravy. It was okay, but certainly not worthy of what is supposed to be a superior restaurant in one of the greatest food cities in the world. Once my wife finished her pasta, we waited for her serving of suckling pig... but it never came. When we asked the waiter, and everyone at the table backed us up as they heard her order both dishes, the waiter claimed she didn't order the pig and blankly stood next to the table shuffling through his small notebook. Finally, after watching him do and say very little for an awkward 15 seconds, my wife simply asked if she could just order a plate of the suckling pig and his response was, "No." No explanation, just, "no." Again, this was very shortly after the restaurant opened for business on a Saturday night! Since the rest of the table had, by that time, finished their meals and the waiter was being of NO help whatsoever, my wife just declined and didn't get the second plate she had been looking forward to. Needless to say, we went somewhere ELSE for dessert. If the service and food availability was this horrid when the restaurant had just opened and was nowhere near full, I can't imagine how bad it must be during a rush. Bottom line: I wouldn't recommend it, nor will I ever return. read more

I hit pay dirt tonight ! I read all the reviews - mostly good and some bad and decided to come here any way as it's literally right next door to my hotel. The food has been amazing, I had the fried artichoke with zucchini flowers for entree . I ordered the artichoke as everyone raves about it and yes it was good but the zucchini was the best I e had in my life ! Apparently the secret is anchovies ! Had the pasta amatriciana for main and it was fantastic ! Cherry tart with almond pastry for dessert just made the meal. The worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. On our anniversary the waiter (the heavy set guy, if your the owner you know who we are talking about) was so dismissive and rude to my wife she almost started crying because she was afraid she done something wrong. Our first meal in Rome- this restaurant is located in a cool structure that looks and feels like you are in a cave. Very quaint and romantic. However, I'm giving it 4 instead of 5 because my pasta was undercooked by A LOT. The sauce on it was good and I love el dente noodles but these were definitely not edible. I was not feeling so hot anyway so just took a few bites. My husband had the carbonara and his first bite, he said, wow, these are el dente lol. We had a appetizer with the Jewish artichoke which was a meh for me, the stuffed flower blossoms were delicious and the fried ball with cheese was also very good. They gave us some complimentary cookies at the end and these were surprisingly addictive. They look like donuts in shape but they are hard cookies with sugar lightly sprinkled on top. Yum. Worst experience of my life. Special occasion, treated horrible, food was terrible. If you want to know why, keep reading. Images of food not accurate... We stayed at the hotel next door which was perfect. We had spent 4 days in Rome for a special event in our lives, also, 10 years together anniversary was the last day of our trip so we wanted to make it extra special. We got massages at the hotel spa which had a thermal bath...amazing!!!! We wanted to go out for a special dinner and we had eaten the same incredible pasta dishes for four days...Carbonara, Almitriciana, Cacio e Pepe, spaghetti e Vongolle, e spaghetti e polepetti, so we were looking for something besides pasta, maybe a good seafood place? The hotel recommended a place that we had seen had pretty good reviews. I think we got there late on a Monday, which apparently means they close earlier than advertised (we didn't know). We got there at 10 and they advertised to close at 11:30, but the hotel manager said to get there before 10:30 so we had enough time to enjoy a special night. Success...so we thought... The older, heavier waiter we had was so rude. I got the feeling he was upset when we sat down...he gave us our menus and then came back and within 90 seconds asked if we were ready. We ordered a bottle of chianti and an antipasto and said we needed a few minutes for primi piatti. He was stoic, but I figured like my Nonno (typical Northern Italian man...reserves his smiles for important moments), so ok. Our important moment is not his important moment, so ok. Less than a minute later he was back asking if we were ready!!! We had been in Rome for many days and had never been pressured to order so quickly!!! I tried to be nice and say everything looks so good and ask about one particular ingredient I did not know, but the waiter rolled his eyes and walked away in the middle of my first sentence. I was so embarrassed and he made me feel so horrible. We ordered food as quickly as possible...amateur mistake...should have left. We had the carpaccio of squid. Inside was okay, but the edges were rubbery. Best part was the arugula on top. For primi piatti we ordered a crepe with tartufo (truffles) and porcini mushrooms which was one texture...mushy. You will not find pieces of mushrooms or truffle in here...must be pureed... We also ordered a tagliolini with baby squid, which smelled and tasted old.... We were so upset with the whole experience and so not comfortable with making a scene, we took two bites of each of the primi piatti and asked for the check. We left half the bottle and 3/4 of the food, paid, and left. We went to another place for much better food and a much better experience. There was a really nice waiter who talked to us for a little bit, but after the other waiter had me welling up in tears everyone avoided eye contact. Only reason not 1 Star was that service was good and pasta was ok. We went on recommendation of concierge. One more reason to not bother with concierge recommendations. Situated right next to the Hotel Lunetta this little gem was a great place to eat. Unlike other eateries where you can sit outside this offered a nice opportunity to sit inside for a more intimate meal. As we have all trip, we started with the prosciutto con buffala which was excellent. For dinner we had Rigatoni with black truffles and Tagiaterri with squid which was excellent as well. Beautiful restaurant in a beautiful part of he city. The food and wine were delicious, but they did lie to us about a dish. We ordered grilled lamb chops, and ended up with either veal or pork schnitzel on the bone, breaded and fried. I explained to the server that we did not get lamb, he went on to a fantasy story that Italy has a special lamb that is white meat. Im no dummy, chef of 25 years. It was not lamb. This place was recommended by the hotel and did not disappoint. We got their near closing time but they offered to sit us regardless and did not rush us. The staff was super friendly and assisted with selections on the menu. The ambiance is very nice with exposed bricks and concrete walls and wooden beams in the ceiling. If you are a mushroom fan they had a mushroom cheese crepe which was delicious. The mushrooms were minced and the sauce was super creamy.. We also ordered the beef filet in a pepper sauce. This was a little spicy but very flavorful! It came with a mash potato purée but we also got the verde risotto which was also very good. Their house Chianti was very good as well. The prices are slightly on the higher side but I wouldn't call it expensive as the portions are nicely sized. Highly recommend going as it's in the city near Roman Ruins too! read more

Dinner started out great, seated right away in a very cute back room. So many dishes sounds good and the waiter helped us choose. We had already had some drinks, so we passed when they asked if we wanted wine. With our first course (sausage and truffle with rigatoni, very good), they once again asked if we wanted wine and we told them again we weren't drinking more tonight. We waited a little while for our suckling pig (excellent), but nothing to bad, but that was the end of our positive experience. After 5 or so minutes after both finishing and having waiters walk by about 8 times, one stopped to take our plates and asked if we wanted dessert. We said not tonight and he asked if we wanted the check, we said yes. 10 minutes later and 30 more passes by various waiters and nothing. I didn't really want to make a deal of it and wave them down because I was hoping for the free donuts they were bringing everyone as they finished there meal (the table next to us finish around this time and 30 seconds after plates were cleared they had a plateful of them). A waiter stopped by again asking about dessert then the check. 5 minutes later he brought the check and we could finally leave (no donuts...). It left a very sour tasted to a nice meal. read more
