Food is good.. pasta is fresh and homemade portions are not huge but enough. The service is so so meaning good but not friendly. Tiramisu is the bomb.

We were in Rome from June 26th through July 1, after walking all day and having a mediocre lunch at a local pizza shop we were in need of some clean authentic Italian food. My husband found that Tema was a short walk from our hotel and that they served fresh octopus salad and clams. We figured it would be worth a try and we are so glad we went . We arrived and although the restaurant was busy we were quickly greeted and seated. We love to eat and try new foods so we ordered many menu items to taste and share; we got the buffalo mozzarella and prosciutto appetizer as well as an octopus salad. For our mains we got the pork chop, muscles, and prawns, side salads and grilled veggies. Dessert was a torte', Panna cotta, and tiramisu. My goodness, it was all delicious and all the seafood was super fresh, we cleaned our entire plates and left so happy. The next evening we sat at another restaurant where service was not very good, after we were given menus no one came back to take an order or bring drinks, we got up and left and went back to Tema for more goodness. We ordered the Cacio e Pepe, veal saltimbuca, muscles, clams, bolognase, pork chop, veggies, salad and gnocchi with shrimp. Dessert was panna cotta, cannoli and crema Catalana; once again everything was delicious, fresh, hot and served by wonderful people. We ended up eating here 3 days in a row and only missed Sunday because the restaurant is closed. We have nothin but great things to say about Tema, Enzo and the rest of the Tema staff, they are serving up great, fresh Italian food. We will be sending all of our friends here. From your happy Texan friends, Thank You Tema !

We were in Rome for 2 nights, and had dinner for 2 consecutive nights because it was that good! Good thing we came early enough, as later on at night when dinner traditionally starts around 9AM this place does get full. The pricing was reasonable for the quality of the food. The location is not for people watching, but I would rather spend money on food quality as oppose to sitting outside to people watch. We had their appetizers, entrees from meat to pasta and desserts, wine. They were all delicious! My favorite was the gnocchi. It appears to be a local business with English speaking waiter service. Remember when you're in Europe you must ask for the check, since it is considered rude for the waiter to give the clients the check without asking.

Soggy, tepid, tasteless prawns in lemon sauce.

Food court level meal. Ordered the spaghetti and clam sauce, it was tepid and tasteless. Ordered the prawns in lemon sauce, it was greasy/oily and overcooked to the point that the prawns just gushed out of their shells. I would give it one star, but the mixed green salad was pretty good, and the bread was fresh and tasty (best part of the meal). It was edible, but no better than food court in the US level, so we ditched our food as fast as we could and went to Sapori for pizza (which is extremely thin pizza with a flavorful tomato pizza sauce and delicious toppings.

Best lasagna I've ever had. Staff was friendly and provided exceptional service. Able to accommodate our large group on a busy Friday night.

    Mussels appetizer-highly recommend.

We went here after a comically bad experience at another nearby restaurant and had an amazing dinner. The first night we only had enough room left for a risotto, but it was delicious. We followed that up with a Pana cotta that was topped with some amazing fresh fruit; which was delicious. The staff here is so friendly, and the atmosphere is that of a laid-back but classy Italian restaurant. Whether you go in jeans and a t-shirt or wear a jacket, you feel comfortable here. No pretension, just great food and hospitality. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food and service. We loved it so much we wanted to go back for another night and this time we tried the mussels appetizer, followed with a scrambled eggs and bacon spaghetti (which was so intriguing that we had to try it; we made the right choice), then main courses of veal and a prosciutto-topped steak. Pana cotta again for dessert with a grappa and espresso to finish and we left what was one of the most enjoyable dining experiences we have ever had. We want to go there one more time before we leave!

Best octopus I've ever had! This place had lovely simple food at great prices.

Beautiful simple Italian food, fresh and very tasty. I tried the octopus salad as an app and it was so tender and amazing. Nice service, didn't have to wait long for anything. Very inexpensive for the quality.

Our hotel manager had suggested another restaurant, but I was apprehensive to try, but did later, more on that restaurant review in it's own post. I rather did what I should have done throughout the trip to, which is to search google for local reviews. This tactic I found to be much better than to trust American reviews for restaurants to visit from Youtube or even here, just because the American touristy taste tends to favor bland or Olive Garden style pseudo Italian. The real Italian taste is much different and something one needs to develop. I was familiar with European Italian food, as I had said before in other reviews that Mexico has better Italian food outside of Italy. Additionally, the good restaurants here in Italy do not open before 7 PM. If it does or if someone that looks foreign to Italy is outside trying to lure you in, it's a tourist restaurant with iffy flavor. At this restaurant my husband had the Lobster pasta and I had the spinach/ricotta ravioli, and we both were beyond satisfied. We also had the artichoke as an appetizer, and trusted the waiter with his suggestion for a bottle of wine. He must have been some genius because the wine went well with our meal. The ambience was cozy and very family oriented, however, the rain outside made it romantic for us. Another key point for this restaurant and it traditional flare was that they brought out the olive oil and red vinegar for our salad and of course olive oil for our wonderful home-made bread. I'm so glad we chose this place for those of us Americans who understand culinary cuisine.

When we arrived on a late afternoon, we waited about 10 minutes before getting seated. To start off, we got the Limoncello Spritz (€10) and Aperol Spritz (€10), which were refreshing. For our pasta, we ordered the Fettuccine with Oxtail (€18) and Carbonara (€17). We also wanted to order two more Secondi dishes, but the waiter warned us that the pasta is filling. After we finished the pasta, we did still order the Rabbit (€19) because it wasn't something we usually see on the menu. For the carbonara, the flavor was delicious but not really my favorite pasta shape. It was also quite al dente with a chewy texture. I have to say that the oxtail was spectacular though with its juicy and tender meat sauce. While the rabbit was nice to try once, it was a bit dry with minimal meat. Overall, good spot but nothing worth waiting too long for. Also, I'd stick to the pasta here as it's all handmade. You even see them handrolling them inside. Note that they also charge €2 per person for service fee already.

It is a large restaurant and was full of lively patrons. The indoor decor is warm and inviting. The first thing I noticed was the camaraderie between the waitstaff - everyone seemed to get along, helped each other and were having fun. We had 2 wonderful Filipino waiters. One had the same Ray-Ban meta glasses as my husband, which they bonded over. We ordered the bombolotti carbonara and lasagna-both delicious. For the mains, grilled Turbot (which was perfectly de-boned tableside) and meatballs w/ mashed potatoes. While the waiter was de-boning the fish, the song "Take Me Home, Country Roads" by John Denver came on overhead. My husband and I both looked at each other and smiled, thinking WTH?! I asked the waiter, "did we tell you we were from West Virginia?" and he smiled and shook his head. But later confessed, he played it for us (I guess we did tell him, lol). It made our night. Rome was the last city in our multi-city 12 day tour and we loved every minute but we were looking forward to going home. Hearing "Country Roads" at a popular and busy restaurant a block away from the Spanish Steps blew our minds. A young couple sat next to us for a quick snack, I asked her what she ordered (it looked delicious) and she said "Im from a different part of Italy but come here just for their artichokes". A few minutes later, I saw a plate full of artichokes pass by, being brought to a table outside. They made my mouth water. Al 34 was one of our favorite restaurants in Italy -- wonderful food (extensive menu), very lively with a mixed crowd (lots of Asians, English speakers and native Italians). It is a fun place to go and the wait staff is one of the reasons I will be coming back. I cant wait to try their artichokes! If you see the word, carciofo (artichoke), order it!
