I'm eating dinner with my family here, my mom loves this place so much. I ordered a Shirley Temple and it is SOOOOO good . It came with a plant based straw, not plastic that's harmful to the environment. We took lots of pictures together, and they came out really nice! Not to mention the appetizers. So disappointing. I used to come here for dinners and happy hour but it's been a while. Went for brunch today for a birthday. The outdoor area is way too closed up to be COVID safe. The burger is flavorless and only comes with a single slice of bacon. The quiche Lorraine came with a burnt crust and was all egg, there were very few pieces of bacon or onion to be found and the eggs Benedict was nothing special either. Then for the desserts, the apple tart was good but the cookies, sundae were basic and the crime brûlée was flavorless and too dense. The service was also just terrible. They didn't fill up our water glasses when we ran out of water and were slow to serve and we had to chase down the check. Such a horrible experience. I was so embarrassed that I'd recommended it. I was disappointed. Based on the other reviews, this must have been an off night for L'Escale. They neglected to put goat cheese in the beet and goat cheese salad. When I mentioned it to our waiter, she ignored me. The entrees took a long time to be served. My bream was dry, and my wife's vegetables were room temperature. The waiter did not come to ask how our food was. That said, my wife's salmon was excellent, and the duck and the lobster pasta the other couple had were also quite good. We didn't have dessert, so I can't comment on it. The restaurant itself is elegant. The food and service, I'm sad to say, did not match up. read more

Do not come to this restaurant, save your time and money and go somewhere else where you will be treated well and with respect. This is the worst service I have ever had at a nice restaurant. To start, reservation was at 8p, not seated til 850. No apology, continuous anger and then blatant rudeness from the staff at the desk when asking about the time. Their explanation was that the table in front of us was still seated and then didn't want to ask them to get up again. They were not apologetic or caring, they were blaming us for getting upset that we were standing in the parking lot instead of celebrating my mothers 60th birthday. The manager came out as we were waiting to sit, told us he would take care of us, and then once we sat down he never came over again to ask about how we were doing or make sure we okay. He blatantly walked past our table multiple times and ignored us. Once we sat down it took 10 minutes to get anyone to come order food, and then forever for the food to come. The food was mediocre for a nice restaurant, nothing to write home about. Honestly, I felt so disrespected and like the restaurant manager and staff could not care less that they were ruining our celebration. Don't bother coming here, take your money and celebrations elsewhere. This place needs to reassess their entire service and the way that they treat people. read more

L'Escale is a beautiful upscale French restaurant placed right on the water in Greenwich. Attached to it is the elegant Delamar hotel (which is also a beauty of it's own). The vintage decor is marvelous, while the ambience of the entire restaurant is elegant and enchanting. The service is the best you will find in any restaurant, while the food is absolutely to die for. To top it off, L'Escale has some of the best cocktails in Connecticut. Tip: Come here for a romantic date night or to have drinks with friends -- you will not be disappointed. read more

I ALMOST thought this review would go in a different direction as we had multiple different people come to us with various degrees of confusion when we sat down, one immediately to take drinks almost as we were sitting, but then no one came back to take drink order for almost 10 mins. The captain came to us to see if we were being taken care of and when he realized we weren't he took over as our waiter and was awesome. We found a seat at the bar and the bartender was great, so sweet and accommodating. We asked for a good menu, however, and we were told they were not serving food at that time. Okay fine. A little while later, I inquired with the hostess where we were at in waiting for a table and I was told we had "waited long enough, [we] could order food at the bar." So basically, they timed us to order food even though we could have ordered food the whole time? Long store short, rude hostesses and bar waitors, great bar staff. I have to admit Their food is good. Service... Not good. We went there for brunch today. It wasn't our first time eating there. It is in a good location for me and my friend to meet. There were somethings bothered both of us but no big deal. After brunch as I was trying to get my car, the parking lot attendant told me he didn't have my key and demand to check my bag. Of course, I didn't have it. Then he ran to my car start the engine and bring it around. But he was driving too fast, he scraped my front bumper. There was a slight downhill that he was coming down. He didn't say he was sorry about my key nor the dent on my bumper. I went inside and told the hostess about it. She came out. Didn't even bother to look at my car but talking with the parking attendant in Spanish and laughing. Then asked me if I want to speak to the manager. He also didn't bother to look at my car. yet told me he will speak to the guy. I was already too upset to further the discussion. Their customer service is NOT good. This place has amazing views of the water and big yachts. I have been to this restaurant many times anytime but the service as always been a miss. The female hostess are stuck up and only go above and beyond when they see rich older men ( maybe there undercover escorts who knows) . They don't smile at all just give you the menu show you an area to sit and walk away . The waiters are no better . The food is ok nothing to rave about . The tuna tartare was decent not the best like it used to be (maybe they have different chefs know). I recommend this restaurant if your in the Greenwich area especially in the spring and summer months . After you had dinner it's nice to walk around the area and see the water and big boats but just be prepared service is subpar and the workers are very cold and uncaring . read more

Service sucks if you're not local. Or maybe, even IF you're local? We were in Manhattan for an annual business trip and had an extra day. On a whim we took the train to Greenwich. As this is apparently the only restaurant on the water (according to Dr. Google), we headed straight there. We were lucky enough to land a high-top in the bar as it was Sunday brunch time and we didn't have a reservation. However, after that, our luck stopped. I kid you not - our future waiter passed by us no less than 6 times in 15 (FIFTEEN) minutes without acknowledging us... and the section was NOT busy. I finally got fed up and asked if we could order. He said "yes" and came back to us 5 minutes later. We ordered beers plus wine with our meal and the large seafood platter and requested bread. The beer was merely cool, not cold enough by a longshot. We had to request a flipping ice bucket for IPAs. The seafood platter came, which was amazing, btw. The bread was nowhere to be seen. We inquired - the waiter looked like a deer in headlights and ran to go get it. . . . Except he didn't get it. He came back many minutes later and said it was being heated up "just for" us. OK.... many more minutes later and we are literally 90% done w/ our food. "The bread?" - oh, ok, let me check. THE THIRD INQUIRY resulted in bread... at the end of our meal. Slippery, Slimy, Slithering L'Escale... I went to write a review on OpenTable, but they had cancelled my reservation within the system in an effort to thwart my negative review. As if that wasn't an admission of guilt enough, the details below will paint a picture of ego-driven management and reprehensible ethics... I made reservations to celebrate some special occasions with my wife, mother, and best friends while visiting Connecticut from California (which I had indicated on my reservation). Upon arrival the hostess asked us if we still wanted to dine outside, as it was drizzling a bit. She led us to the covered patio and we all agreed that the table would be dry enough. In most cases, the table would be set for 5 in advance, but given the weather situation I totally understand it being left up in the air. The hostess brought over a 5th chair, told us the busboy would bring over another place setting, and to enjoy. The busboy did indeed take care of the task, but I'd say that was the height of their service. The service seemed to be a team approach, with 4 guys walking around in suits and another guy in a polo shirt who took our food and drink order. While he was the one giving us the most attention, his familiarity with how to service a table was amateur at best. My friend's wife ordered a glass of Sancerre and I ordered a bottle of 2012 Expression 44 Pinot Noir by RoseRock Vineyards which was listed on their menu for $95. The waiter acknowledged the order, but came back to have me point it out on the list for him. After the glass was dropped off another man (in a suit) came back to ask me which bottle I ordered. I told him the "RoseRock Pinot Noir," he took the wine list and scurried away. He returned with a bottle of RoseRock Pinot Noir, told me that it was his last one, and poured 3 glasses. When I noticed that the bottle we were drinking was a 2014, I asked for the wine list again. I confirmed that RoseRock Pinot Noir 2014 wasn't even on the list and we had been served the wrong bottle. I politely brought this to the attention of the man in the suit and he asked me if I liked it and proceeded to tell me that the bottle I was drinking was better and more expensive than the one I ordered so we will just charge me the same price. That seemed reasonable until I Googled that the average retail price of the 2014 was $33 vs. $48 for the Expression 2012. I let sleeping dogs lie, as I had hoped to avoid any further trouble so that we could enjoy the rest of the meal. However, when the entrees came out, we noticed that all 3 meat dishes were overcooked by a level (medium rares were medium and medium was cooked medium well). When the suited man asked how things were, we told him about the temperatures of the meat dishes. He scoffed a bit and took the plates back to the kitchen. Shortly there after, another suited gentleman came to our table and addressed us. He attempted to tell us that the daylight that we were looking at the food under was to blame for our misreading the temperatures and that they looked properly cooked back in the kitchen. He then proceeded to ask my mother if she had even tasted her lamb chops. She replied that she had and that the meat was tough. He too scoffed and walked away. Right before the entrees came, I had ordered a second bottle; this time the correct RoseRock Expression 44 2012. While we were waiting for the entrees to be recooked, the 2nd suited gentleman came by and without asking started pouring the wine into glasses on the table; never minding to ask and inadvertently mixing the 2 pinot noirs in my friend's glass. After 2 of us had finished our correctly cooked dishes, the 3 re-fires came out cooked perfectly. I ignored the fact that the vegetable medley side dish never arrived and that we had to ask for the Bearnaise sauce my wife had ordered with her steak. We ordered dessert and enjoyed those as well. After some time of inattention, we finally flagged down the guy in the polo shirt to give us our bill. Not surprisingly, no concessions were made, but given the situation with the wine, we felt compelled to have a polite discussion with them. My friend, who we deemed to be the politest and most tactful of the group, brought it up when the first man in the suit returned to our table. Immediately defensive, he repeated that he had explained it to me and thought that we should accept his position. I then countered that I had looked up the prices of the bottles and it didn't seem right to be charged the same amount for a less expensive bottle. My friend added that the other man in the suit was pretty rude to question my mom about whether she tasted the lamb chops or not. And with that, the suited man became so incensed that he exclaimed that he didn't like the way we were talking to him, despite our efforts to be completely matter of fact. He asked if we wanted him to take the wine off the bill, to which we affirmed. We still tipped $60 on $450. (no more room here) read more

While the decor chic and food excellent, the management is rude and dismissive. We had a private brunch Sweet 16 for 24 people and manager could barely set table up on time and dismissed our concern that guests arriving in 10 minutes. My daughter and I decorated tables while guests seating themselves!!! Although I explained a Sweet 16 and only serve items on menu including a mock mimosa, waiters opened $200 worth of French mineral wAter and still water... this was a sweet 16. My daughter said they all said yes to water thinking it was tap water??? Then had the audacity to charge $8 per person to cut a Stew Leonard's $30 sheet cake...are you ready.. $200 to cut the cake and plate it. Apparently I misunderstood on phone there would be one charge to cut cake.. not 24. So instead of a $600 Sweet 16 brunch.. $1000 with the French water and apparently grueling task of cutting a sheet cake? Check out receipt. read more

I arrived early as my husband went to pick up friends from the train.. so sitting in the front area I could hear the Iady at the desk checking people in , and directing people... I'm SORRY but if your in the service business your people skills should be of such... This Iady was rude to me and everybody she spoke to.. grumpy, nasty, on her cell phone, and phone booking was so unpleasant to listen to. A stone's throw from busy Greenwich Avenue, drove up from NYC to see fall foliage and stopped here for brunch. On the water, with a terrace, but we ate in the lovely dining room. Tables are spread out, eclectic country chandeliers, stone floors, wood burning fireplace and depressed wood. Portions are huge. Ordered the lox omelet and it came runny as requested with a magnificent green salad in the side. An order of pommes frites was something we shouldn't have ordered-- but they were SO good. (Had I known the orders were so large, we would have skipped the fries.) Service was relaxing... And as I'm writing this the waiter just showed up with some mini pastries for dessert! read more

Just had the worst Birthday experience ever. 1. After we were handed the dessert menu, we were ignored for 20 min. We decided to leave without eating the cake. 2. The cake I brought was also ruined. I carefully brought a birthday cake here all the way from Manhattan. When we got it back it was upside down. Please IMPROVE YOUR SERVICE. My boyfriend's company do many events here and we know this place is usually slow - but today this service issue becomes unacceptable and is very disappointing. L'escale was amazing. I went out last night for dinner. We ordered the scallop and calamari appetizer. THE only negative thing I could say was the app was very small. None the less, the dish was delicious! For dinner, my friend ordered the squid ink pasta in a sea urchin sauce. I almost ordered the same dish once we were done to take home. I ordered a salmon over greens. We opted not to have dessert. I'm kind of regretting it because everyone has told me their desserts are amazing. You can truly taste the freshness in everything. Be prepared to spend about 100 per person if you are also planning on getting wine or other drinks. Don't let the price deter you. We decided to lunch at L'escale because of their maritime fare, and the photos of their outdoor dining area looked exceedingly inviting. The temperature was in the upper 80s if not 90s, but we enjoyed the great outdoors in shaded splendor. If you are looking for a divine dining experience and superb service, that is what you will find at L'escale! The staff is savvy and sophisticated. It is a wonderful dining experience. My husband had the 2-tiered lunch special $145 Plateau Royal lobster cocktail, seafood salad, ceviche 12 oysters, 12 clams, 6 jumbo shrimp brandied cocktail sauce, and mignonett. For dessert he had the $14 Coupe L'escale raspberry, coconut, mango & passion fruit sorbet soaked grand marnier hazelnut cake, vanilla ice cream candied almonds, and whipped cream. My husband rated the restaurant 3.5/5 overall. He said the dessert was the highlight, but the flavors of the cuisine fell flat! I had the $26 tuna burger, $13 Vanilla Creme Brulee milk chocolate pecan toffee, and we drank a $40 bottle Riesling. Cost: $257.55 + tip $52. I rated L'escale 0/5 valet parking because they almost ran over my disabled husband, and the valet on duty kept us waiting (arrival/departure) while 3-staffers played on their cell phones. A 2.5/5 for cuisine because the maritime sauces looked appetizing, but fell short on flavor and they were plain ketchup and mayo. My tuna burger was flavorless and the sauce was plain mayo.
