Plaza Restaurant is one of those places the locals all know about. Located in downtown Greenwich, it offers standard Greek & American fare at reasonable prices. This weekend, I decided to try their Gyro Platter and Homestyle Apple Pie. Both were excellent. Compared with some of the trendier restaurants in town, this place is like foodie time traveling - takes you back to the days when restaurants made food the way they believed it should be - fat & calories be damned! The gyro platter was delicious & filling. And for once, here is a restaurant that actually has a simple but great Greek salad dressing. Not one of those sweet balsamic travesties that some places use.... Plaza's food met my tastebuds expectations. Good thing I have a treadmill - I ate the entire order down to the last crumb. Yum. It's with a heavy heart that I have to leave this review. I've been a plaza customer for 10 years or so and it was always a good eat at the counter breakfast place. Without getting into the entire shit show breakfast was yesterday it's just better to say avoid this place. Their grill man is an insult to the culinary world. Went here for the first time this morning after a visit to Greenwich Hospital. This review is just for breakfast for the two of us. This restaurant is an old school luncheonette. The menu photos on Yelp do not reflect the current prices. Our waitress was an old school New York style waitress. Straight to the point, no smile, but not impolite. I had the corned beef hash with poached eggs and Hollandaise. Personally I like my hash with the corned beef a little softer, not quite so lean, and a few more onions. There are no potatoes in the hash, which is fine by me. Eggs were poached perfectly, with runny yolks. Hollandaise was good enough. I like my home fries a little jazzier, with some onions and peppers mixed in, and even a little garlic; these were straightforward potatoes. My wife had an egg white omelet, which came out scorched, which she is OK with, but I would not be. I'm a coffee drinker, and we're in an age of higher standards for coffee. This coffee was solid one star food service coffee. The cup I had at the hospital was better. I don't know how much more expensive a step up in coffee would cost the restaurant, but a cup of coffee has a pretty good profit margin, and I would encourage them to spend another 20 or 25 cents per cup for a better quality blend. read more

Small Greek dinner in Greenwich, Connecticut that has One of the Best corned beef hash I have ever tried. Yes the decor is out dated and needs a fresh coat of paint but the breakfast is Fire! I had the corned beef hash with two eggs over, toasted bagel with cream cheese, and coffee. The corned beef hash is made with onions and peppers. The corned beef is not Mashed up to like baby food. This had Chunks of Corned beef that was well seasoned and had the right amount of fat. Simply Delicious! The service was fast and food came out Hot and delicious. Just sat and watched the short order cook put all the bacon on the grill with his bare hands, then handle another customer's muffin and wrap it up. Did this repeatedly. Crazy. No washing hands, then started preparing my avocado. Again, having raw egg and raw bacon on his hands. Nuts. read more

Disclaimer: I started writing reviews to review restaurants I want to recommend but unfortunately there are a few I have to not recommend like Plaza. Let's set the table so to speak for my meal. I came in for lunch on a Monday at 2p when there was only 5 other people in the restaurant. With that said it took over 20 minutes to get my order of a bacon cheese burger deluxe. If anyone knows diners, food usual arrives before you take off your jacket so 15 minutes with an empty restaurant is insulting if not at a minimum lay-z. To add more insult to injury the burger was significantly smaller than the bun. I have never seen that before. The bacon was over cooked to a degree that it was brittle and lastly the bun was burnt so much so that I had to ask for another one. Now I am not a baby regarding my food but this burger just sucked all around. A disappointment for sure because who messes up a diner burger. I guess the Plaza Restaurant does. read more

I hate to do this because I've never had a problem with this place before but today it was the most grotesque food I've ever had. I ordered chicken Kebob and it was disgusting!!! It was raw inside and some kind of distinct smell was coming from it. Sorry but it is unacceptable and unfortunately I'll never go back. Visited this restaurant while returning back from NY on day 1 of new year 2018. We were starving early morning and most of the places were closed. We found this on yelp and had to give it a try. Staff was welcoming and we chose a table of our choice. Had a perfect start to this year with fresh, aromatic coffee! Menu has all that we need for a breakfast - pancakes, omelettes, burgers and extensive lunch options too. We ordered a egg and cheese sandwich (croissant), Zeus special(grilled chicken, egg whites with green deliciousness) and our infamous satiating "oatmeal with berries". Owners seemed proud of their service, which was excellent. Food was served right and quick. Interior was very homely and had a traditional touch to it. They deserve good points for their simplicity. Ok, the people giving this place more than one star have obviously never eaten at a proper diner. When you walk into a diner for breakfast, the coffee should magically appear moments after you are seated. Not here. Refills on coffee? Sometimes you have to get up and walk over and ask for someone to come by. The service is really erratic. Diners are about fast. These people don't know how to spell fast. We have been coming here once every few months or so for breakfast because its a convenient location. We treated the bad service as sort of a fun joke, just to see what will happen each time. But today was the last straw. Never again. The food is passable, although my omelet today was so overcooked it was like eating paper. The toast is really good (I guess you really can't screw that up). They do have good muffins if you catch them when they come in fresh. Top notch. I am sure the place is fine for the workers who grab a bacon, egg and cheese on a roll on the way to work, but don't ever sit down here. It is too painful. read more

Stopped by here on the way up from NYC. Really nice diner feel without being in your face about it. I ordered a margherita omelette. Unlike many places, the accompanying home fries were nearly perfectly done with just the right amount of crispness. The omelette was also pretty excellent with just the right proportion of mozzarella cheese and tomato. I would definitely make this a regular breakfast joint if I lived in the area. read more

Came here a few months ago and decided to get a quick meal before attending the film festival across the street. This is seriously my first negative review of a place, but with over an hour to spare, my friend and I were still late to the first screening that day. The entire diner was empty except for two other tables, and I found the food underwhelming. The person who took care of us was nice and friendly, but it was too frustrating to wait so long for so-so food in an empty spot. We didnt ask for anything elaborate, I think it was just waffles and coffee, but it took us well over an hour to get our food, eat, and cross the street. I hope it was a one-off thing. read more

I work in the area my coworkers and I come here a few times a week. Its a family run restaurant and the staff is always sweet and hospitable. We usually get their sandwiches, soups and salads for lunch and have never been disappointed. My go to is their grilled shrimp greek salad, philly, souvlaki pita (get the pork when its available!), and chicken kebabs. My co-worker also swears their corned beef is as good as katz in the city. Stopped here on our way home from NY. The place was pretty empty when we arrived. We ordered pretty quickly. It took over an hour to receive our food ( 3 omelets and 1 French toast) . After the hour wait 2 of the omelets were wrong and 1 of the sides was missing. The waiter offered to fix the orders , but left our table without taking our plates. He then came back with napkins and asked if everything was ok,we then reminded him of the mixed up orders and missing side. He then left our table and brought back the check. read more
