We came here for dinner not long ago. Our waiter was very kind and attentive. Food arrived quickly. However the "Philly Cheesesteak" that my friend ordered ended up being chopped-up hamburger patties placed inside of a wedge (see picture). If the kitchen staff didn't have steak strips available, they could have just told us so. No big deal. I've never been here for breakfast. I'm willing to give it a try on a Sunday morning sometime in the near future. Below are some simple suggestions to make the diner look more professional; especially since it's located in the North Stamford area: * The door entrance and desk would appear more tidy if there were far fewer photos cluttering the area. No photos at all would be ideal. * The restroom sink faucets are corroded and the stall doors have a lot of chipped red paint. It reminded me of a NYC subway station bathroom. * Most of the seating booths in the diner had a tacky sign posted on them that said "Cash Tips are Greatly Appreciated. The gent that waited on us was very friendly and helpful. He checked back a few times but was never intrusive. Parkway's menu is very impressive with plenty of full dinner entrees (beef, chicken, fish, pastas, sandwiches, burgers, salads, and breakfast choices. Definitely something for everyone. We had two salads for dinner, each was $15.95. The Chinatown Express included a teriyaki chicken breast, mandarin oranges, sliced almonds, and tortilla chips. My Chicken Fajita Salad included a very generous portion of sliced chicken breast, olives, shredded jack cheese, tomatoes, peppers and tortilla chips. I passed on the blue cheese dressing and asked for salsa instead. That was a good choice because their salsa was good and really complemented a delicious salad. The only thing I noticed about Parkway was that some of their pricing is quite high. Here are some examples: some omelets are $17, some pancakes are $17 and $18, Nachos and a chicken quesadilla are $18, soups are $8 or $9, club sandwiches are $18, Linguine Fra Diavolo with seafood is $33, Fish & chips is $30, coffee is $4, and chocolate milk is $4.50. Stamford is Stamford, so high end pricing can be expected. But in all fairness, my salad was reasonably priced and sure had a lot of chicken in it. read more

Had breakfast of 2 eggs over, toast, home fries, bacon sausage + coffee. Nice waitress. But tab came to $25+ (so $23+ before tax) including tip, left $30 cash since in hurry. Seemed very expensive for a standard diner breakfast. It's possible they had some bkfst special that included some large part of this but was never alerted and basically charged a la carte. I have been going to the Parkway Diner for over 10 years and there has never been a disappointment! The owner is charming and so is the staff. The menu has something for everyone and everything is well flavored and cooked perfectly as ordered. It is spotless and 1970's diner chic! My favorite dish is the croissant French toast with strawberries. It is the stuff dreams are made of! This past weekend I introduced a new friend there and she loved it! $100 for breakfast at a diner for a family of four is pretty steep. Pancakes are stellar but everything else is pretty average or below. French fries are dry, dishes are sometimes dirty and a stray piece of spinach somehow made it into my breakfast potatoes. Service is fast and courteous. Coffee and water and constantly refreshed and they are quick to bring condiments. Parkway is a Stamford institution and in any given weekday you will find local politicians and Stamford finance managers doing business over eggs and bacon. However, the menu prices are now out of wack. If you don't want to spend $20 for a plate of pancakes and eggs, head over to the Donut Delite next door. read more

A simple diner with simple food, Parkway (or Lushe's now) is nothing fancy on the Stamford scene but I do want to compliment them on a few key areas. 1) Service: They got to us right away and let us sit where we wanted. A party of 4 got to occupy a corner table normally used for 6 people. Nice room to spread out and relax. They were quick with water and happy to refill, including cleaning my accidental spill mess (whoops.) 2) Atmosphere: Quiet, fairly roomy, but still like an old-school diner. Up against the road for things to see but without the road noise. 3) Location: Right by Merritt Parkway, plenty of parking for you. 4) Food quality: From my sandwich and what I saw, ingredients are very fresh and all orders were filled exactly as requested. The star (or perhaps star-plus) that is missing is mainly because the food is rather expensive for what you get. It tastes good but you don't get a whole lot of food for your money. My avocados (on the sandwich) were rather underripe. Fresh, certainly, but that is something that needs to be better controlled. Minor, not enough to pull a second star off, but I wanted to note it. No clear answer to maintaining quality and price with bigger portions, so I will just leave this as: A pleasant diner experience in a convenient location. read more

We were driving on the Merritt in a long road trip around 8p and needed something better than fast food. Was pleasantly surprised by this place. Yes it's still a diner serving diner fare but the service was great (the manager/owner was working hard), the place had a warm diner feel and the food was exactly what I would expect. I got a chicken parm grinder and it was big. The bread was terrific. A bit of a crunch but lots of flavor and texture to it. The chicken parm and sauce itself was filling and tasty. The fries were classic. Only wish i could have had even more. Overall, a solid diner off the parkway in a stretch of highway without a lot of choices. We enjoyed it. Service was excellent, the burgers were very good. Had mine with Gorgonzola, the wife with American - after a mishap. She strayed from diner menu with chicken and waffles. An excellent waffle arrived with what looked like "Golden Arches" chicken nuggets on top. it felt like an April Fool's joke. The waitress was excellent and immediately returned and replaced it with an American cheeseburger and fries. Kids burger and chicken tenders were great. Prices were on the high side. Found the diner was the only place open. We went In and it was AWESOME. Best chicken soup. We did omelets/breakfast stuff and both meals were perfect. Just!!! Moved to North Stamford 2. Days ago!! But I know the area... and more so, I know diners. Classic old school silver train car diner... great. Warm welcome, great service... no complaints! But... y'all... $6 for one egg, $4 for meat (as in 2 slices of bacon or 2 sausages?) $2.95 to change your toast out for an English muffin??!! Nope. Listen, my husband is a restaurant consultant. I get that food prices, from wholesale down are high. But cmon... Parkway Diner serves standard diner fare that conveniently located near the Merritt Parkway. It still looks like the diners I went to in the 90s with a jukebox at each table. I was there for breakfast and had a coffee and Charlotte pancakes. The coffee was passable. The pancakes were bigger than the plate and topped with a pile of fresh fruit. BEWARE Very overpriced. Got two crepe pancakes (which is using maybe 1cup of batter or less) and bacon came out to $18. My husband got a burger with a fried egg and fries $25. Total came out to $50. Been coming here for 25 years, moved away 4 years ago and still come every time I'm home and always treated like family. the beautiful owner still remembers us and our orders, we are LOYAL to them over any other diner. I LOVE this place. Family owned and ran, accommodating and food is always good. I've always driven by this place and finally decided to stop in for a late breakfast. Eggs over medium with corned beef hash and home fries. I also had a long stack of buttermilk pancakes. I took everything to go. It took awhile as they were a little busy. Small place so it's limited seating. Service was good though. They have a mom and pop feel which is nice. Not bad, not great. The food was average (a little on the smaller side) and the service was decent enough. For whatever reason, my wrap ended up being 2$ more than the listed price, which may have been because I got sweet potato fries (although, no increase in cost was brought to my attention by the waiter or menu AND many of the listed wraps are served with such fries so...) Overall, I would only come back if I was right next door to it for another reason and since I don't see that happening again, I more than likely won't be back. read more
